4th Annual VDOE English SOL Institutes-Register Today!
Registration is now open to all educators for the English Language Arts SOL Institutes to be held October - November at six regional locations . This year the focus is on formative assessment in the English language arts classroom. The format includes a general session and four different concurrent breakout sessions with either an elementary or secondary focus. Participants need to bring their own device. Following the Institutes, all program materials will be available on the English Instruction Web page.

Teacher Training for MT1 Certification Course
VDOE in collaboration with the Virginia Manufacturing Skills Institute is offering a Manufacturing Technician Level 1 train-the-trainer certification course. This training is specifically for currently licensed technology education teachers in divisions that offer or plan to offer the Manufacturing Systems program. Register now for the Stock Market Game
The Stock Market Game™ is an online education program used to help teach social studies, math, business, economics, and language skills while focusing on the importance of long-term saving and investment. Students in grades 4-12 participate in teams and manage a simulated investment portfolio. See the Virginia Council on Economic Education for additional information.

National Portrait Gallery Programs 2015-2016
The Portrait Gallery announces its Student and Teacher Offerings for the upcoming academic year. These programs inspire students and teachers to learn more about people and events that made contributions to the history and culture of the United States.

Professional Development Planning Starts with You! World Language teachers can share their professional development goals by completing the Teacher Effectiveness for Language Learning survey. The results will help PD providers choose timely and relevant topics for future presentations and workshops.

VCMS Annual Conference Virginia Council of Mathematics Specialists is hosting its annual conference September 24-25 focusing on "Students Thinking and Engaging in Mathematics." This is an opportunity for mathematics specialists and mathematics teacher leaders to network and gain new ideas to enhance their work with elementary and middle school teachers and students. Registration is open until September 11.

Teaching, Learning and Poverty: Meeting the Needs of a New Demographic is a multi-session institute intended to deepen educators' understanding of the inequities and challenges of children and families living in poverty, and to help schools respond with actions that have positive effects.
