Worship With Wesley UMC | Sun. Oct. 13 at 10 am | 1164 San Bernard St., 78702 Wesley UMC and University UMC continue an important tradition of joining together for worship. Rev. Sylvester Chase and Rev. John Elford will preach and lead the service, and choirs from both churches will present special music. After worship, a barbecue lunch catered by Pok-e-Jo's will be served in Wesley's Fellowship Hall. There will be a presentation by Pastors Chase and Elford about how we as Christian brothers and sisters can respond to recent incidents of racism in our country and local community. The presentation will be followed by a dialogue focusing on our shared commitment to finding ways to promote inclusion and eliminate inequality in the UMC and in the world beyond the church. Youth and children are invited downstairs for games and ice cream. Although we will not have our regular 11 am Sanctuary service at UUMC on this day, our 8:30 am Sanctuary service and our 11 am Chapel service will continue. Wilson Wade Lecture Series Continues | Sun. We'll hear from a panel of Austin's grassroots community leaders as they shed light on opportunities for justice work in Central Texas. The Radical Women in Jesus' Family Tree - Genealogy is important in the birth narrative of Jesus. In Luke, women are prominent in the first Christmas. In Matthew, we find four women, all non-Jews, listed in Jesus' family tree. We'll explore the stories of these women and how they provide important frameworks for understanding Jesus. Clothing Donations for Fig Leaf Store on Hold Until January 2014 Due to construction constraints at the church, the Fig Leaf Store has temporarily stopped taking donations of clothing. Donations will be accepted again at UUMC in January 2014, when the Fig Leaf re-opens. If you have clothing to donate, please bring your items to Goodwill or another charity of your choice.
