The Tradition Continues
2013 Capital Campaign
Being good stewards of
the "manifold grace of God"
uumc

Dear Friends,
I'm excited about Phase II of the Capital Campaign to upgrade the facilities of our beloved UUMC. Members and friends who came before us have left us with a beautiful and historic church in which we worship and carry out the Lord's work. I was here during Phase I and am pleased that members successfully funded the first phase of the Campaign while we were enduring a nationwide financial upheaval.

Our projected Capital Campaign need is $2.15 million for the second phase of a multi-year campaign to provide us with a safe, up-to-date base for worship and ministry to our community and world. UUMC members have always been generous and I am confident that Phase II of the Capital Campaign will be successful because of our commitment to the life and programs of UUMC.

Replacing our outdated air conditioning system as well as updating the kitchen and other renovations in the church makes good financial sense rather than continually sinking money into costly repairs. Being good financial stewards is essential. These changes will also make the Sanctuary more family friendly and make the bathrooms in the education building more modern and accessible.

One might wonder whether the money you commit to the Capital Campaign will be used solely for renovations to the church building. The answer to that question is yes. All funds received for this campaign will be placed in a special account designated "Capital Campaign" and used only for the purpose of renovating and improving the condition of the church. In addition, the remaining unpaid debt from the Phase I improvements will be paid off in the first few weeks of this phase of the campaign.

Stewardship is the devout investment or use of money, time and ability. In biblical times, a steward supervised a household or an estate. Today, as God's children, we deem God the source of all we have, seek to hold it in trust for God and desire to be "good stewards of the manifold grace of God." (1 Peter 4:10)

It is my hope that you will prayerfully consider participating in this campaign.

Sincerely,
Linda Nichols, UUMC Finance Committee Chair

Reaching out to UUMC members
about the importance of pledging

This Sunday, we'll take a few moments during our worship services to listen to the ways that UUMC's ministries have touched and transformed the lives of others. On April 21, we'll hear from
Gary Walker and, in subsequent weeks, speakers will include Mark Jones and Margaret Berry.
These talks will lead up to our Pledge Day on
Sun. May 5. That's when UUMC members will bring their financial pledges to church in support of Phase Two of our building improvement project. Click here for more information and details about these Phase Two projects

At University United Methodist Church, we have a long tradition of worshiping and growing together in the light of God's love. We offer an open door and compassionate heart to those in our community and world who are searching for a place where the truth is told and all are welcome.

To continue the UUMC tradition as a sanctuary and voice for God in the midst of a broken world, we must be ready to do our financial part to sustain our ministries.

Replacing our deteriorating HVAC system, building accessible restrooms and remodeling a kitchen that no longer meets city code are three improvements that now need your financial support.
