The Tradition Continues

2013 Capital Campaign
Church Council:
UUMC Building Improvements Hinge on Your Decision Sunday

Dear Friends:
What's so special about this Sunday, Mar. 17? Yes, it's St. Patrick's Day and the last day of Spring Break. But, more importantly for UUMC, it's also the day that members hold a Church Conference to vote on Phase II of our important Capital Campaign.

When we finished Phase I of our capital improvements, we knew there was so much more work to be done on our facilities than we could afford at the time. Last year, the UUMC Church Council unanimously approved a motion to appoint a Building Study Committee to thoroughly research the most pressing needs for a potential Phase II of capital improvements. That committee and the Board of Trustees have now developed a Phase II plan that is consistent with UUMC's goals, which include the maintenance and enhancement of our church facilities to support current and future ministries. The Board of Trustees' objective was to "approve a capital campaign design that supports our congregation's short- and long-term needs without placing an unsustainable financial burden on our congregation."

On Sunday -- whether you are wearing green for St. Patrick's Day or wrapping up your Spring Break vacation -- please come to the Church Conference in the Sanctuary after our 11 am services. Your vote will let us know if we can proceed with Phase II of our building improvements.

Members Vote Sunday on Second
Phase of Building Improvements
uumc

UUMC members will decide this Sunday, March 17, whether to embark on the second of our three-phase capital improvement plan -- a long-range vision for the church that began in 2006. After our late services this Sunday, please come to the Sanctuary as the congregation votes on this next phase of our building project and the financial plan to pay for it. Phase Two improvements include a new HVAC system, bathroom and kitchen renovations, and other changes that together cost about $2.15 million. Click here for more information and details about these Phase Two projects.

See you at UUMC on Sunday!

"Seldom a week goes by that I do not pass the south side of our wonderful and beloved UUMC. There I so enjoy looking at the name of our Church, spelled out in strong, readable letters. The name is deeply etched in the white stone in front of the new walkway that is now handicapped accessible. The pride I feel, just in looking at this small space, is strong and huge, more so than I ever would have expected.

These two simple changes in the south entrance of UUMC make profound statements to those coming in, going out, and passing by our Church. And they are among the many outstandingly positive results of the first phase of our Capital Campaign.

Now all of us who love UUMC are being asked to step up to the plate again, each in our own way, so that the second phase of the Capital Campaign can begin and hopefully run through completion. My husband and I have already begun to discuss our contribution levels, and we hope that everyone will do the same. Every single dollar and devotion matters, no matter how large or small. For us personally, we will rest easier if we know that our air conditioning and heating systems aren't likely to completely break at a moment's notice. As well, we are hoping that the kitchen can be significantly improved to advance the mission of UUMC and support our Saturday outreach family, the children in the Early Childhood Center, and all UUMC staff, members and visitors alike. Let us all hope, pray and individually make things happen by supporting the Capital Campaign."

We Need
Your Support

At University United Methodist Church, we have a long tradition of worshiping and growing together in the light of God's love. We offer an open door and compassionate heart to those in our community and world who are searching for a place where the truth is told and all are welcome.

To continue the UUMC tradition as a sanctuary and voice for God in the midst of a broken world, we must be ready to do our financial part to sustain our ministries.

Replacing our deteriorating HVAC system, building accessible restrooms and remodeling a kitchen that no longer meets city code are three improvements that now need your financial support.

We hope you will support The Tradition Continues 2013 Capital Campaign, which will help us make these and other vital improvements possible.

Watch for more information in the weeks ahead as we continue the UUMC tradition.
