Trout eggs arrive for Middle School Trout Technician Program
Starting Thursday, six MS students are official Beaver Trout Technicians, spending two recesses a week helping raise trout from eggs to fingerlings. Students applied for the responsibility and MS science teacher, Kim McCabe, is assisting students throughout the project. She's excited for students to experience work in a real-life lab setting. "I hope the program empowers students to pursue future careers in science while fostering an appreciation for local fauna that can blossom into an environmental ethic as they grow up." Stay tuned to our Instagram and blog for updates.
The Coded Curriculum: year one recap and preparations for SXSWedu
In 2013 Beaver was the first school in the country to implement computer coding into each of its classes in the Middle and Upper schools. We presented our work at SXSWedu 2014 and we're excited to be returning to Austin in March with a recap of the first full year of The Coded Curriculum. Yolanda Wilcox Gonzalez, Tech Integration Specialist and MS Humanities teacher, says, "The momentum, the enthusiasm, is certainly here - and the kids are craving it."

Meet the band: students in US jazz elective prepare for trip to Cuba
Upper School jazz students will travel to Cuba this March to embark on a cultural and musical exchange with Cuban students. This is the second time Beaver will travel to Cuba - students also went in March 2013 - and the class is documenting their preparations on the blog, The Road to Cuba
