Documentary Film Screening & Visit
Thank you to Hilary Sparrow for bringing the story of Naledi to our fourth and fifth grade students this week. Find out more about this true-life story of a baby elephant orphaned at six-weeks of age and the individuals who work to save her life here.
After watching the film, students met with Hilary (one of the film's producers), Mike Chase and Kelly Landen (Wildlife Biologists, Elephants Without Borders), and Ben Bowie (Film Director).

Northwest Boychoir Auditions

Free Tutoring in Reading
Summer reading class for incoming 1-4 graders. Students are matched with trained high school reading coaches and meet twice a week for 6 weeks. Information and application here.
Pottery Summer Camp Fayezart still has a few spots left for those kids who love mud, fire and pizza.

Kudos to You!
We celebrated and appreciated this year's volunteers at last night's FOSB meeting. We had over 500 volunteers this year who donated an average of 525 hours per month. Thank you to the many who donated time and talents to our school this year!
Field Day
Elementary field day will take place on the morning of June 17th. We need volunteers to help Mr. G make this a fun and engaging event. Volunteer to help at a station or fill water balloons (kids love this job!) Sign -up here. Questions? Email Jodi.
Friday Sing Volunteers Planning Team: We are looking for 6-8 parent volunteers to meet with Admin and staff on August 11th, at 6:30 p.m., to discuss Friday Sing plans and structure for next year. This group will brainstorm options and opportunities for utilizing guest teaching artists within our elementary program. Email Neil to volunteer or share ideas. Musicians and Vocalists: Interested in sharing your talent with our students? We are looking for a group of parents to play and sing to kick-off our weekly morning sing next fall. Email Neil. Your secondary student may qualify to receive a free ORCA card. To qualify the students must:
- Be a high school or middle school student
- Live within 1-2 miles of the school
- Be eligible for Free and Reduced Lunch program
- Not currently be provided transportation

8th Grade Promotion
8th grade promotion is at Ingraham High School on June 23rd at 7pm. It's a touching ceremony with a punch and cupcake reception that follows. All family members welcome.
8th Grade Picnic After promotion rehearsal on the morning of June 23rd, the 8th graders enjoy a picnic at Golden Gardens. We need volunteers to help purchase supplies and serve lunch at the picnic. Able to help? Sign up here.
Ballard High Incoming Freshmen Music There will be a brief, informational meeting in the Performing Arts Center on Wednesday, June 15th at 7pm for all incoming freshmen that will be involved in the music program. Brass, Saxes and all Rhythm Section players interested in either group will be auditioning on Sunday, June 12th and Vocal Jazz auditions will be held June 21st and 22nd. More info here.

Think you might have returned a Salmon Bay library book to the public library? It happens. Let us know. Seattle Public Library has a very reliable system for returning books to school libraries.
Want to avoid that mistake in the future? Helping library  books get to their correct home is as easy as checking the spine: Seattle Public Library books have an additional code above the spine label, indicating which branch the book belongs to (e.g. NET). Here's an example of a public library book:
