Spring Sports Information
|
Spring sports are here. Other than ultimate frisbee, sports offerings are free and for middle school students only. Spring ultimate frisbee is a club sport open to students grades 3+ and includes a fee to cover administrative and coaching costs.
Non-district Coed Club Ultimate Practices have begun. The middle school team practices from 3:30 to 5pm on Tuesdays (Loyal Heights Community Center field) and Thursdays (SB upper field). The elementary teams (Grade 3+) practice from 3:15-4:30 on Fridays (SB upper field). We have many coaches for this spring sport with Sam Olson leading the crew.
Middle School Boys Soccer (JV/Varsity)
This season's coaches are Glyde Hart King and Gabrielle White. Practices are from 3:30 to 5pm on Tuesdays (SB upper field) and Thursdays (Loyal Heights Community Center field). Lunchtime meetings have already happened and the first practice is next Thursday, March 10th.
Middle School Girls Volleyball (JV/Varsity) This season's coaches are Jenny Kuester and Esther Purcell (both returning from last year). Practices are from 3:30 to 5pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the school gyms. The first practice is Thursday, March 10th. There was a lunchtime meeting today, which was announced in homerooms.
Middle School Coed Track This season's coaches are Domingo Gomez, Megan Ratcliffe and Nicolette Jensen. Practices are on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the East Gym. The first practice will be Tuesday, March 15th. A lunchtime interest meeting will happen on Tuesday, March 8th in Mr. G's gym (East gym).
After Practice Transportation OST (Out of School Time) buses are available for transportation after the Tuesday and Thursday practices. The buses typically leave Salmon Bay around 5;15. Sign up in the main office. Athletes must be signed up to ride the OST bus.
Physical FormsIn order to play middle school sports, athletes must have a current physical on file. Physicals are good for 2 years from exam date. If your student is not current, please make the necessary appointments to get their physical completed. If you are unsure whether your student is up to date, please email Megan Ratcliffe, Athletic Director.

Envelope stuffing. Our invitations are hot off the presses. We plan to mail them Monday afternoon. Willing to help with the envelope stuffing? Join us in the cafeteria Monday, March 7th from 8:30-10:30am (or any portion you are available).
Decoration making. Join us on Monday, March 7th from 6-8pm in the Salmon Bay art room (Room 206) for our first round of decoration making. More decoration parties to come: March 16 and March 23.
Beer brewing. Are you interested in making this year's batch of beer for the auction? Help Joel Maier (6th grade science teacher and master cockroach breeder) brew on March 15th and bottle on March 31st. Email Joel if you want in on the fun.

Social Media Apps and Talking With Kids About Sex
Join the Parent Information Exchange (PIE) Committee on Tuesday, March 8th at 7pm in the auditorium for an evening lecture from Jo Langford.
Jo will walk parents through the most popular social networking sites and apps that kids are using and hearing about. He uses information, education and humor to help families increase their knowledge and self-confidence as a proactive defense against the unfortunate consequences that sometimes accompany teen sexual activity.
Jo is a parent, masters-level therapist, and sex educator for adolescents and their parents. For the last 20 years, he has worked to promote healthy, positive and safe sexual behavior.

The Salmon Bay Bookfair is March 21 - 25th and we need your help to make it a success! Whether you're a pro or have never worked the bookfair before, we'd love to have you. It's easy and fun to help our kids find awesome books that inspire them to read.
Volunteers are need to assist students and staff the cash register.Please use this link to sign up for a shift (or many shifts).
Don't forget, this is a fundraiser! The more we spend, the more our library receives.

Please keep a positive balance in your student's lunch account. In keeping with district policy, students with a negative balance of more than $10 (middle school) or $15 (elementary) will not be served lunch. Check your child's backpack for negative balance statements that were sent home this week. Salmon Bay families currently owe $419.
