The Friends of Salmon Bay (FOSB) Direct Giving Campaign starts next week. Instead of asking you to sell cookie dough, popcorn or wrapping paper, we ask you to donate what you can.
Direct Giving helps bridge the gap between the academic programming Seattle Public Schools funds and the programming we want our kids to have. FOSB uses Direct Giving funds for initiatives like Mary K, whole child support, technology, and teacher grants.
The Direct Giving Campaign's goal this year is $65,000 and 100% participation. Look for your Direct Giving appeal in the mail. Direct Giving donations are tax deductible (Tax ID: 91-1622350) and simple: - Donate online.
- Donate by mail. Write a check payable to FOSB or approve a credit card payment(s). Then, return your donation form and flower petal insert to: Salmon Bay School, Attn: Direct Giving Campaign, 1810 NW 65th ST, Seattle, WA 98117.
- Donate in person. Drop your donation off in the front office any day or bring it to the Dollars for Doughnuts event at drop off on Friday, October 23rd.
- Ask your friends and family to help. Send the donation link to others you think would be willing to donate in exchange for never being asked to buy cookie dough, popcorn or wrapping paper.
- Ask your employer to help. Don't forget to ask for employer matching to double your donation!
Starting next week, you can watch our progress toward our goal on the display in the front hallway. |

Halloween Celebrations and Guidelines
As we approach Halloween we want to make sure our school is a safe and welcoming place for everyone. If your child chooses to dress-up in a costume, please make sure the outfit is appropriate.
All costumes should adhere to school dress guidelines for modesty, messages, and safety. In addition please follow these guidelines:
- Costumes need to be non-violent in nature - violence is inappropriate at school and other children can be frightened by blood and gore representations. Weapons and toy weapons of any kind are not allowed.
- Avoid costumes that are dressing up as people from other cultures.
- For safety reasons please do not include masks as a part of costumes sent to school.
- Make-up, if used, should not be disguising the identity of the wearer e.g., whiskers and freckles, not face paint.
Many classrooms are planning to hold afternoon celebrations on October 30th. The elementary school will be having a costume parade in the afternoon (watch for additional details next week).
Enrichment Fees
During the school year students participate in field trips, artist-in-residence programs, camps and special class projects. Instead of asking for payment each time one of these activities takes place, we ask parents to pay one combined fee (the enrichment fee) at the beginning of the school year.
The 2015 - 2016 Enrichment fees per grade are:
Kindergarten $125
First Grade $180
Second Grade $180
Third Grade $270
Fourth Grade $300
Fifth Grade $400
All elementary families were emailed enrichment information. You can also find information and make payment on the FOSB Website. Enrichment fees are due October 30th. Questions? Please contact Jodi.
