Volunteer News and Needs

Water Balloon Fillers and Field Day Help

Elementary Field Day will take place on the morning of Friday, June 12th. We need volunteers to help monitor activities and we need water balloons... lots and lots of water balloons! If you can spend the morning helping out at field day or if you are able to pick up a packet of balloons, fill them with water (your kids will love this job!) and return them on Friday morning, please email Jodi.

Sewing Support Needed                                Students will be sewing in preparation for the Oregon Trail on Monday between 1-2 pm in Xena's classroom (room 210). Adult volunteers would be greatly appreciated!

Best Volunteer Gig Ever
FOSB will be hosting a fundraiser at Rueben's Brews on Thursday, June 18th. $1 from every pint sold will benefit Salmon Bay. We need a few volunteers on hand to greet visitors (some of whom won't be from Salmon Bay) and thank them for their support. If volunteering in close proximity to delicious brews sounds like the right job for you, please email Kristina.

Second-Best Volunteer Gig Ever
Like to golf? Want to do it on Orcas Island? We are looking for volunteers to golf with Salmon Bay 8th graders on Wednesday, June 3rd and Thursday, June 4th. Come for one day or both. Open to all parents. You don't need to have an 8th grader. All you need is a set of clubs, some prior experience playing golf, and pocket money for the walk-on ferry fee. We will take care of your transportation from (and back to) the ferry dock and cover your green fees. For more info or to volunteer, call Jay at 206.784.9177 (home) or 206.604.4896 (mobile)

Eagles Contact Needed
Our Fundraising Committee is looking for someone in the Salmon Bay community who is a member of the Eagles. If that's you, please contact Michele. All we need you to do is provide the connection, our fundraising folks will take it from there!
2015-2016 School Calendar

The Seattle School Board approved the District's 2015-16 academic calendar. The full calendar can be found here.

Notes from the Library

As much as I enjoyed my tenure as a traveling librarian, I'm very happy to be able to once again host class visits in our regular space! From what I've observed this week, I think students are enjoying having the entire collection available to browse again. And speaking of the collection, I'd like to say a HUGE "thank you" to Brooke Ike, Misa Bowman, and Lara Cowles for coordinating this year's Secret Garden book fair. Thanks to all of the other folks who volunteered their time in support of the library, as well. All of our collection development funding comes from the efforts of the Salmon Bay community, so whether you were a volunteer or a shopper (or perhaps both), we appreciate your efforts immensely!

We will be hosting Pamela LaBorde, the beloved Children's Librarian from the Ballard SPL branch in June (date still to be determined.) Her annual visit, promoting SPL's summer reading program, is always a highlight! I'm currently in the process of compiling a few additional resources that might provide families with some fresh ideas when it comes to summer reading. Look for this information in early June. As always, please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have.

-Linda

Lending Library

Do you have children's books you are done with that could be donated to the lending library? We'd love to stock it up for kids to take new books home this summer.

It's Bike To School Month!

Two Minute Survey - LAST CALL

If you haven't already done so, please take this short and fast survey to let us know how you currently commute and what would make you more likely to walk, bike or carpool. 55 families have responded so far, but we are hoping for much higher participation. Please give us two minutes of your time.

Fuel Free Fridays

We encourage you to be fuel free every Friday in May. Those who bike, walk or carpool should enter through the alley for recognition.

Notes From the Lunchroom

Please Note, there has been a MENU CHANGE due to the 19th being a non-school day:

Tuesday May 12th we will now be serving Fish Sticks instead of French Bread Pizza.

Wednesday May 20th we will now be serving a BBQ Chicken Sandwich & Bagel Munchable instead of Chicken Nuggets.

Also be aware that recently a lot of hot, thirsty children (especially 4th graders) have been purchasing cold bottles of water for 75 cents. This is considered an ALA CART item, and cannot be included with lunch. It is wonderful to be able to offer a healthy alternative to chocolate milk, but if you don't want your children to be spending the extra money, please let them (or Melissa, our lunchroom Manager) know.
