As Seen In The Hallways
We are continuing to showcase student artwork in our front lobby display cases. Currently we have NewYorker covers and masks created by our middle school art students on display.

  

In the outdoor classrooms and hallways of Islandwood, our 5th graders spent the week exploring ecosystems and completing team challenges. It was a valuable week of learning about each other and the forests around them.

Spring Reign Tournament this weekend at Skagit River Park in Burlington, WA. Our first game will be at 11:30 Saturday morning on field 22. (Players should arrive at 10:30.) The tournament bracket and Saturday schedule are available online. 

Counselor's Corner
Conversations are one of the most powerful tools parents can use to connect with-and protect-their kids. But when tackling some of life's tougher topics, especially those about drugs and alcohol, just figuring out what to say can be a challenge.

Check out this parent tool kit and this information from children's hospital for help getting those conversations going with children of all ages.

Charlotte's Web

Greenlake Elementary School presents Charlotte's Web on Friday May 1st @ 7PM, and Saturday, May 2nd @ 2PM and 7PM in the Lincoln Auditorium (4400 Interlake Ave). Suggested $10 donation.

 

COHO Boys & Girls Club Summer Camp 2015!

There is still space available during all 10 weeks of summer camps. They serve students entering Kindergarten through 5th grade. Sign up through COHO.

 

Teen Science Café - Real Life CSI

You watch Law & Order and NCIS. You can't get enough of Bones. Join Dr. Carl Wigren, Forensic Pathologist and graduate of the UW Medical School, on May 13th for a look deep into the world of autopsies to learn how the examination of corpses unravels the mysteries of death. Wednesday, May 13th at 7pm. Youngstown Cultural Arts Center.

 

Stone Soup Theatre Classes

Registration for spring classes, the Youth Theatre Conservatory, and SummerStage is now open! Check us out at www.stonesouptheatre.org.

 

Join the SPT Youth Improv ensemble

Do you like improv? Are you in grades 7-12? Be a part of the SPT Improv Ensemble! Rehearsals begin April 28. No experience necessary; tuition assistance available.  

  

Quiet Heart Summer Camps 

Quiet Heart Wildnerness School is now accepting summer camp registration. Opportunities are also available for Teens, 15 years and older, who wish to come play in the woods as volunteer counselors.   

 

SPS Summer Music Program

This summer music program is for students in grades 4 - 8 who have completed at least one year of instrumental instruction. Tuition and registration due June 22nd.

Teacher Appreciation Week 

At Salmon Bay, we don't think one day reflects our appreciation for our teachers, so we celebrate them for a whole week! We need lots of volunteer to make Teacher Appreciation Week (May 4-8) a success.

Get Ready for Bike To School Month!

Salmon Bay's walk/bike committee has been hard at work putting together a great line up of events for you for Bike to School month. In fact, it all starts this weekend:

 

Bike Swap This Weekend

Got an old bike or need a new one? Salmon Bay is having a bike swap this weekend. Drop your unwanted bikes off today (Friday) from 4-6PM. Or, come look for a new (to you) bike tomorrow from 10AM-Noon. Bikes are free! Unwanted bikes will be donated to Bikeworks Seattle.

 

Dust Off Day

Come get your bike ready for a month of riding. Fill the tires, check the breaks, wash it 'till it shines, and then give it a little something extra a the decoration station. Friday, May 1st from 3:15-4:30.  

 

Bike to School Day

Bike to School day is Wednesday, May 6th. Ride your bike to school and park in the alley where friendly greeters, treats and stickers will be waiting.

 

Fuel Free Fridays

All remaining Fridays in May, we encourage you to be fuel free. Those who bike, walk or carpool should enter through the alley for recognition Friday May 8, 15, 22, and 29.

Book Fair & Poetry Night Next Week

 

  

Spring Book Fair

The Salmon Bay book fair is just a couple of weeks away! Please help support our school library by purchasing books during the book fair. A percentage of the proceeds will help provide extra books for our school library.

 

When: April 27- May 1. 8-9 AM and 2:30-4 PM every day, plus Wednesday night from 6:30-8:30.   

Where: Salmon Bay School library

 

Can't make it to the book fair at school? Shop at Secret Garden bookstore April 27th-May 1st and mention Salmon Bay School when when purchasing to have your purchase applied to Salmon Bay's book fair sales.

Poetry Night  

Do you like rhyme? Do you like verse?

No need to fear or call a nurse,

Just bring a poem you think will delight,

to read aloud at Poetry Night!

 

When: Tuesday, April 28th and Wednesday, April 29th  

(2 nights makes it possible for more people to join in!)

Where: School Library, from 7:00-8:00pm.

Who: K-8 Students, Parents, and Staff 

What: Step up to the mic and read/recite an original or beloved poem (or two!) with an audience of poetry lovers. See you there!

May Nyer House Meal 

Our Monday Meal at Nyer Urness House will be on May 11th. The May meal is sponsored by Hien and Melanie's homerooms.We are still in need of many food items. Please use sign-up genius to make your commitment to provide food and/or time for our meals. Please drop off food the morning of the meal, between 8-10am, in the school lobby.
