As Seen In The Hallways

Salmon Bay Observes A Day of Silence

Our hallways are often loud, filled with the sound of students talking as they move between classes. This past Wednesday, the hallways were a lot quieter as students observed the GLSEN Day of Silence. Students who chose to participate wore fluorescent cards around their necks. Elliot and Sophie, pictured here, wrote the text below to explain the significance of this day.

The National Day of Silence is a day of recognition and honor for people who don't always have a voice, and for people who have been harassed or bullied when they have shared their voices. The idea isn't to be mute for a day. That's too simple, and that's just a game anyway. This isn't a game. This isn't a competition. The point of the day is to acknowledge the people who feel they aren't able to voice their true feelings and opinions. It isn't an excuse to avoid answering your teacher, or to be rude to other people when they do talk, but a day to understand just how hard it can be for some people to share their beliefs, opinions, and feelings in our society.

Auction Round Up

Hats Off To You

Thank you Salmon Bay for stepping out and stepping up at the auction last weekend. We loved seeing all those boots and hats (and socks with sandals). The preliminary numbers are in: We raised about $110,000. That's a job well done!

We're Almost There...

Thanks to the generosity of many donors, we were able to fully fund the first two tiers of our auction fund-a-need. We've got the funds to put skylights in the library and give the lobby some love.

We are just $7,000 away from fully funding Tiers 3 and 4. With a little more help we could accomplish the auditorium upgrades (screens and seating) and tackle the gym improvements (sound system and backboards).

If you weren't able to attend the auction but would like to help fund these physical improvements in our building, please drop off a check (payable to FOSB) in the Volunteer Coordinator office. Email Kristina with questions.

On Saturday, April 25th families are encouraged to come to school from 10am-Noon to try out and take home bikes and gear for their children.
