We hope our middle school students had a great first day of WEP and were able to make the most of their adventures despite the rain.

A Note From Your Volunteer Coordinators

Volunteer Needs

We have lots of great things ahead in 2015 but we need your help to make them happen.  Please consider how you may be able to help with the volunteer needs below:

  • TOURS: School tours start next week.  There are daytime (9am elementary/9:30 middle school) tours on January 27th and February 11th and an evening tour (6pm elementary/7pm middle school) on February 24th.  We still need volunteers for each of these tours. If you are willing to help with tours, please contact Jodi (elementary tours) or Kristina (middle school tours).

  • PAINTING: We want to plan an appropriate amount of work for our painting party on Saturday, January 31st (8 am to noon).  Please let Jodi know if you intend to come so that we can plan accordingly.

  • AUCTION MAILING PARTY: Auction planning is underway. We will be sending out our first mailing next week. If you are able to help stuff envelopes, please join us in the cafeteria after drop off next Thursday (1/29).

Middle School News

WEP Kick-Off

Today, throughout the lowlands and in the mountains, Salmon Bay kicked off the Winter Enrichment Program (WEP) for our middle school students. Students went skiing, rowing, hiking, ice-skating and more. A heartfelt thank you to the many volunteers who made this possible.

Theatre Electives

During second semester, the following theatre electives will be offered (fairy tale theatre theme):

  • 6th period intro to theatre (tech/designers/builders)
  • 7th period advanced theatre (performers/writers/directors)

Alumni High School Night

Are you in the midst of making a high school choice right now?  If so, please join us in welcoming back a group of our Salmon Bay alumni who are returning to answer your questions about what high school life is like.  Students from Nathan Hale, Ingraham, Roosevelt, Center School, Nova, and Ballard high schools will form a panel to field audience questions Tuesday, February 3rd from 7-8pm.  Parents and students are welcome!  Questions?  Contact Nancy or Megan. Hope to see you there!

Speaking of High School...

High school tours are starting.  See attachment to this bulletin for specifics.

Middle School Contract

The Middle School Social Contract is complete. Thanks to all homerooms for their input.

We help each other be safe, kind and responsible. To do this I work to:

  • Follow directions
  • Respect, accept, and include differences
  • Make smart choices
  • Be accountable for my words and actions
  • Believe in myself while also encouraging others

...And have fun along the way!

GSA (Gay/Straight Alliance)

The Gay/Straight Alliance (GSA) is once again being activated at Salmon Bay. The first lunch meeting happened this week. All are welcome. To learn about what  this  group is all about, contact Martin or Markos.

EventsGatheringsAuction

It's the Wild Wild (north)West!

Gather your posse, dust off your boots, mark your calendar and plan to join us to support and celebrate our community at our annual auction fundraiser on Saturday, April 4, 2015 at North Seattle Community College.

A note about our theme: Our Western theme was selected based upon suggestions from the community. If you've been to a Salmon Bay auction before you know that costumes are encouraged. So find your inner sheriff, outlaw, cowgirl or rodeo queen and join us.

A note about the date: Working within the availability of North Seattle Community College and avoiding a conflict with the Ballard High School auction, our auction date will be April 4th. We want to acknowledge that this date falls on Passover and is the night before Easter. We hope that many of you will be able to join us that evening. We also have many opportunities for auction involvement over the next couple months that we hope you will consider.

A note about procurement: Each year some of our most popular items are donated by you! We rely on our fantastic parent community and their employers, friends and family to offer a variety items at the auction. Please consider donating or helping us procure auction items. Auction donation forms will be available in the next week. Questions about procurement? Contact Nadege Mohr.

A note about volunteering: We have a right size job for you! There are many opportunities to support our auction. We are in particular need of help the day of the auction with transport, set-up, check-in, and clean-up. Consider joining us for a mailing party in the cafeteria after drop off next Thursday (1/29). To volunteer in another way or find out more about the auction, contact our auction chair Stephanie Lynch or visit the Auction Bulletin Board located in the volunteer coordinators office.
