Principal's Note
Look for a note from Jen to come tomorrow!
Elementary Volunteer Coordinator's Note
Anthony may have also helped a certain adult staff member make a hat.

What a game! It is so great to see everyone's Seahawks-induced smiles around here! Last week Anthony helped the kids make paper Seahawks hats and Beth even led the intermediate kids in a Seahawks cheer at lunch on Friday and a victory cheer this afternoon! It's a great time to talk about working hard and good sportsmanship.

We have Prospective Family Tours coming up. If you know of a family that is interested in joining us at Salmon Bay next year please let them know that we are offering elementary  tours at the following times:

Thursday, February 6 at 9:00 AM

Tuesday, February 11 at 9:00 AM

Thursday, February 27 at 6:00 PM

I also need some parents to help with tours. If you can help please sign up here:

http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0E4DA4AA23A1FE3-tour

It's easy! We especially love to have new parents who can talk to nervous incoming Kindergarten families about your Salmon Bay experience.

Check out the Auction section down below. We really need donations for our silent auction. There are some ideas in the Procurement Update section.  If you need ideas or have questions please email Suzanne, our Procurement Chair an email at suzaroo@gmail.com.

Thanks,

Sharon
Middle School Volunteer Coordinator's Note

Hello middle school families,

Go Seahawks!  What fun to see our whole city celebrate their success.

Our first Salmon Bay family ski day at Stevens pass was a great success this past Saturday.  We had around 60 Salmon Bay people up there and it was a lovely day of skiing and boarding fun!  We are going to try and organize another one of these in March so be on the lookout.

Nancy G. and Megan R. did an amazing  job with our alumni high school night last week.  Thanks go out to both of them and to our awesome alumni students who came back with important  information about the high schools they are attending.

I need some parents who can help out with our middle school tours.  Our first one is this Thursday and I would need 4 parents who could be here by 8:15.  It is a really easy job and a great way to get into the middle school classrooms.  Let me know if you can help out.  Our next one is next Tuesday at the same time.

WEP #3 is scheduled for this Friday!    The pass has some new snow and hopefully it will continue and we can head out for our activities.  As always if we need to cancel/postpone we will email and robocall as soon as we know.

There are a lot of needs for our auction.  Please check out the Auction News section below for more information.

Thanks,

Caitlin

After-school drama opportunity for 7th and 8th grade students -- Improv

The Salmon Bay Drama Committee, in partnership with Jet City Improv, is organizing a six-week Improv Class for 7th and 8th grade students of Salmon Bay. Classes are two-hours long and will be held for six weeks on Wednesday afternoons after school beginning February 26 and ending April 2. There will also be a final evening showcase, date TBD.

Class size is limited to 15 students. Spots are available on a first come, first serve basis. Registrations will be considered complete once the attached registration form and $50 fee have been submitted to the Drama Committee Mailbox in the main office. Forms may also be picked up in the volunteer coordinators' office. Deadline for registration is February 21.

Jet City Improv provides the highest quality improv training available to middle school and high school students. Students discover the basic vocabulary and technique of improv through scenes and games in a fun, welcoming environment. When students learn to improvise, they learn valuable skills such as public speaking, confidence in front of an audience, teamwork, communication, and creative problem solving.

*Note - Improv requires spontaneous responses and a comfort with unpredictability.

For more information, please contact Drama Committee co-chairs, Lori Mudge and Edith Fuchs at lorimudge@comcast.net and edith.fuchs@gmail.com.

Librarian's Note
BIG news from the library! For the first time in history (at least as far back as our database goes) the community of Salmon Bay readers reached over 10,000 circulations for the first half of the year! The exact number was 10,104, which translates into a very robust per capita circulation rate of 13 books. (This includes books checked out by students, staff and parents.)

Data from the library will be showing up frequently between now and Pi Day, in many different forms. If you are someone who likes numbers, be sure to be on the lookout. Also, if you are someone who enjoys CREATING number puzzles, please let me know. I have a job for you!

The other exciting piece of news from the library is that I was able to pick up a good portion of our book order from University Book Store on Friday. If you're on the distribution list for library volunteers, please watch your inbox for an email from me. I'll have information on days and times when you will be able to help with processing some of the new books. Because this is also the first week of the new semester for middle school students, it's a busy week for me. We will most likely begin with all of the processing work next Tuesday. Thanks in advance for your willingness to help with this large, but very rewarding, task.

Happy Reading!

Linda
