WINTER BREAK
NO SCHOOL

December 2, 2013
Elementary Volunteer Coordinator's Note
Hi families,

I hope you had a restful break.

We recently received the results of our Fall Book Fair at the University Book Store. Thanks to you we have raised over $1,500 for our library!  Thanks to all of the volunteers who made the festivities happen, and a special thank you to Julie Kosev who took on the Book Fair for the first time this year and helped us earn 25% more than last year! Way to go Julie!

A big thanks to Monica Porter for working hard on our Direct Giving campaign.  We are more than half way to our goal!  See Monica's note in the FOSB section for more info.

Auction planning is happening as we speak under the watchful eye of our new Auction Chair, Stephani Lynch!  If you would like to help out please email Stephanie at stephlovescooking@gmail.com Thanks, Stephanie for taking on this very important role!

Our Drama Committee and cast members have worked very hard over the last few months and it's almost time to show it off!  Peter Pan starts next week, please review the calendar for specific days and times.

The Salmon Bay Family Directory is currently being proofread, and will go out to print soon! The cost of printing our Family Directory is offset by the advertising that is published in the directory. If you have a local business and would like to advertise please email Sharon at slmaglianofe@seattleschools.org. Business card size is $10, ¼ Page is $25, ½ Page is $50 and a full page is $100. Ads are due by December 12th. Get your business name out to Salmon Bay Families in a place where they'll see it all the time!

Salmon Bay's Annual Lantern Festival is scheduled for Friday, December 20th.  The morning event will happen during Friday sing at 8:40 and the evening Lantern Walk will take place at 6 PM at Salmon Bay Park.  We need donations of tea lights to make this happen!  If you can donate a box of unscented tea lights, please let me know!

Please join us on Thursday, December 5th at 7:00 PM in the library for our monthly FOSB meeting.  If you have a student at Salmon Bay, you are already a member!  We love to see new faces!

Thanks!
Sharon

Middle School Volunteer Coordinator's Note

Welcome back, I hope your break was lovely and relaxing!  We are back for a whirlwind 3 weeks until winter break!   Winter enrichment forms were due on the 27th so if you haven't turned them in yet please do so as soon as possible.

The University book store bookfair was a great success and we raised 25% more money than last year for our library!  Thanks go out to all you shoppers and a huge thank you needs to go out to Julie Kosev for an excellent job on her first book fair! Great job Julie!

The auction is off to a great start with planning, but we still need your help.  This is our biggest fundraiser and isn't possible without the help of all of you.  If you would like to help out please email our fabulous chair Stephanie Lynch at stephlovescooking@gmail.com.  Thanks for all your hard work Stephanie!

Our yearly direct giving fundraiser is almost half way to our goal!   Keep those checks coming in and help us get there!   Thanks to Monica for doing such a great job on this major fundraiser!

Our monthly FOSB meeting is this Thursday at 7:00PM in the library.

Thanks and have a great week,  Caitlin

Drama Update

Drama Updates!

"Peter Pan" opens next week with 7:00 p.m. performances on Thursday, December 12 (Cast A) and Friday, December 13 (Cast B); weekend matinee performances at 2:00 on Saturday, December 14 (Cast A) and Sunday, December 15 (Cast B); and with an afternoon school matinee performance on Friday, December 13. All performances are free to attend. If you would like to support drama at Salmon Bay, you will have the opportunity to make a donation at the show. We hope you will be able to make one of these performances, it's going to be a terrific show!

Auditions for the K-4 production of "The Phantom Tollbooth" are coming right up! They will be held after school December 17 and 18. Callbacks will be scheduled by the directors for December 19 if needed. All K-4 students interested in being considered for the cast will need to sign up for an audition spot through our sign up genius, which will go on-line on December 10. You will find the sign up genius through the drama page on the Salmon Bay website.

Interested in learning more about the K-4 play? On Monday evening, December 16, the drama committee is hosting an audition preparation workshop and parent information night from 6:00 to 7:30. If your student is interested in being a part of "The Phantom Tollbooth," we encourage you to attend. However, attendance is not mandatory. Students who are unable to make the workshop are welcome to audition. Also, if your child is in the third or fourth grade and is interested in being in the crew, we encourage you to let us know.

If you are interested in volunteering to help out off stage during "Peter Pan," or if you have questions about "The Phantom Tollbooth," please contact Lori Mudge at lorimudge@comcast.net. Thanks!

Notes from the Chairs

Join us this Thursday at 7:00 pm in the library-our monthly meeting is early this month! We try to create as much transparency as we can for families, both as a courtesy and as a matter of good policy. That's because some of what happens at FOSB happens behind the scenes, in between meetings, and in unscheduled and unprompted chats, but hopefully we're doing our job by sharing our weekly "Notes from the Chair," attaching our agenda each month, hosting a monthly coffee, posting our minutes online, and highlighting volunteer opportunities and upcoming committee meetings and events. Do you have any questions, or suggestions, or ideas-we'd love to hear from you. The finance committee should soon begin its work in formulating a budget proposal for the coming year, and the volunteer coordinators and BLT representatives are working with us to help plan a meaningful (and fun!) retreat this year at the end of January, which all members of FOSB are encouraged to attend. Look for more details soon ... and thank you so much for all you do. Jodi Russell (reddsell@comcast.net) and Robin Lofstrom (clevelandette@gmail.com).

YOUR Direct Giving donations ensure that we are able to keep those scholarships funded, so please give yourself a kind pat on the back.
