THE GRADUATION EDITION!

This is the time of the year that we transition from Prom preparations to Commencement Ceremony planning!! Whether you are an individual who is graduating from Pre-School or Graduate School this is the moment you have been waiting for!

When parents receive the news that their child has been diagnosed with special needs, all types of worries can begin to formulate.  They may worry if their child will be able to go to Prom, play sports, and graduate from high school.  We at Brighter, Stronger Foundation wish to let parents know, that your child can still experience all of that and more!!

To prove this point, Brighter, Stronger Foundation will be holding its annual Autism and Related Services Commencement Banquet on June 21st to honor all of our clients that will be graduating from their high school and beginning the transition into adulthood.

Stay tuned for pictures from this monumental ceremony in next month's edition of our newsletter!!!

Please join us in congratulating the graduating class of 2014!!!

Make sure to check the BSF Calendar below for our scheduled activities!!

In honor of Mental Health Awareness month, the adult day group spent time identifying ways to maintain a mental health balance.  Some of these coping skills included creating their own stress/sand garden and participating in guided imagery.  They also worked on the concept of "fight or flight" as it pertains to good and bad stress.

We are all aware that stress is an inevitable part of life, but as the quote states, "Life is 10% of what happens to you and 90% of how you handle it". Our group of adults are choosing to imagine being in a peaceful and safe environment so that they can regroup and then deal with their issues in a productive way!

If you are an adult or have an adult client in our PRP program and are interested in these weekly groups, please call the office at 410-485-7555 and we will register you TODAY!!

Ever been in an emotional crisis when someone asks you what is wrong and you can't answer?  This probably added to your feelings of anger, anxiety, frustration, sadness, etc. Perhaps if you had a variety of words to properly identify your feelings you would have felt better about talking? Often individuals opt not to talk about their feelings because they do not know how to do so.  This is the concept that our youth onsite therapeutic groups explored for the month of May.

Their activities included discussions about sadness, anger, and fear and the different levels of each.  Different games were  played to help them develop their emotional vocabularies so that they can better articulate their feelings.
