10 Tips to a Brighter New Year!!

During this time of the year , individuals set out to make good on the New Year's resolutions that they have made.  Often times, as you begin your resolutions feelings of anxiety, fear, frustration, sadness, conflict, hope, happiness, confidence, and even achievement are created.  The key to success is to set achieveable goals and to have fun!! Below you will find our Top 10 tips for a Brighter New Year!!
1. Be good to yourself- each day plan to treat yourself with kindness, love, & respect.

2. Ask for help- it is okay to admit that you cannot handle a task on your own.  This is what family, friends, therapists, and support groups are for.

3. Plan ahead- to avoid feeling overwhelmed or not in control, plan your travels, activities, and duties in advance.

4. Have an alternative- things may not always go as planned such as, unexpected school closings/delays, make sure you have a back up plan to help with the transition.

5.Monitor your moods- track your moods, behaviors, medications, lifestyle, stressors and then make adjustments as needed to increase your sense of happiness.

6.Tackle the tension- when you feel the tension starting to rise repeat this: "Stop, Breathe, and Turn the Page".

7.Pick your friends carefully- to ensure a good mood, surround yourself with those who are supportive, encouraging, and positive.  Consider limiting your time with those who bring you down.

8. Learn to control your anger- don't let your anger control you!

9. Get the blood flow going- do some form of exercise (walking, aerobics, or swimming) to boost your emotional immune system, lose weight, and increase your energy level.

10. Rest your body- not getting enough sleep can lead to an increase in irritability, anxiety, depression, and low energy.

This year, do what you need to do in order to make YOU new!!
