The ACUTE Difference

Utilizing the Medical Insurance Benefit

ACUTE Center for Eating Disorders is the only specialized medical stabilization unit of its kind, located in Denver Health Medical Center on a dedicated medical unit. Because of our unique line of service and expertise, ACUTE bills under the medical insurance benefit, preserving the often limited behavioral health benefit for long term care.

Often times, medically compromised patients end up in an inpatient or residential level of care where they are placed on bed rest, with feeding tubes and restricted program participation. During this time, therapeutic and behavioral gains are limited and the mental health insurance days are essentially wasted.  When patients begin their treatment at ACUTE, they are able to move through those first few weeks in a more appropriate setting, and utilize the medical insurance benefit.  Once medically stable, patients transition to the inpatient or residential treatment program of their choice, ready to engage and really benefit from therapeutic programming. This two-step process can result in higher patient and provider satisfaction, longer lengths of stay, and ultimately, improved outcomes for long term recovery.

ACUTE is contracted with most major insurance companies and can typically secure an out-of-network waiver or single case agreement when necessary.

For more information, call ACUTE at 877-228-8348.

Led by Dr. Philip Mehler and Dr. Jennifer Gaudiani, patients are offered the very best in medical stabilization and treatment, a compassionate and highly experienced nursing staff, individual psychotherapy, physical therapy, and thorough discharge planning to help them begin recovering. The ACUTE Center is tailored to help both males and females who cannot seek care in a traditional inpatient or residential treatment setting due to the severity of their weight loss or other medical complications. ACUTE contracts with most insurance companies and uses the patient's medical

insurance benefit for stabilization care.
