Albion Continues to Be Featured in
'Best Colleges' Conversation
The annual early September publication of U.S. News and World Reports closely watched college rankings coincide with the time high school seniors start to seriously think about applications and essays, visits to campuses, and interviews with admission counselors.
In the 2016 edition released earlier this month, Albion was listed among the countrys top 100 national liberal arts colleges. Its the third straight year Albion has been included in that U.S. News group (this year at No. 100 with four other schools), and follows placement in The Fiske Guide to Colleges, Forbes Top Colleges and The Princeton Reviews Best 380 Colleges.

Big Read Student Leaders Train on Campus
In August, Albion's community/College Big Read took a big step as a dozen Albion youth did a week of leadership training with Albion College English professor Jess Roberts, Big Read assistant director Maddie Drury, '15, and five Albion College student mentors. The Albion Community School and Marshall High School students, all between 13 and 15 years old, studied and practiced leadership, communication and planning skills, along with doing an in-depth examination of Ursula LeGuin's A Wizard of Earthsea. The work is part of the students' preparation to serve as discussion leaders for the Albion Big Read in October.

City Parks Spark Policy Research
for Alena Farooq, ’18
Albion is a small town, but visiting each city park twice a day is no small task. "There are 17 city parks, which per capita might be the most in the United States, says Alena Farooq, '18, who found herself charmed by a lot of Albion while completing a summer public policy research project.
Farooq's look at Albion's parks was just one part of her research, sponsored by the College's Foundation for Undergraduate Research, Scholarship and Creative Activity (FURSCA). Through support from the Robert M. Teeter, '61, Research Fellowship Endowment, Farooq is researching the City's 2010 Recreation Department plan, scheduled for revision this year.
