Joe Silvestri, '15, Earns NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship
Joe Silvestri, '15, the long stick midfielder for Albion College's first Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association championship team in men's lacrosse, added to the Britons' tradition of academic success when he was recently named as one of the recipients of the NCAA's postgraduate scholarships.
Silvestri, a native of Novi who prepped at Detroit Catholic Central, will receive a one-time scholarship of $7,500 to help fund his education at the University of Toledo Medical School.
"The Albion environment breeds success and being a student-athlete taught me the skills necessary on how to be a resilient and compassionate person," Silvestri says.

Albion Hotel Project Takes Big Step Forward
A $1 million grant from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation's (MEDC) Michigan Strategic Fund, announced July 30, clears the way for a four-story, 72-room boutique hotel to be constructed at the corner of Superior and Porter streets in downtown Albion. Nearly $1 million in additional funds will come from the City of Albion Brownfield Redevelopment Authority to prepare the site for the build.

College Tallies Major Fundraising Gains
There's always a certain buzz in the air as fall semester approaches. At Albion, that buzz has become a deeper momentum on a number of fronts: the largest first-year class of the decade, a new hotel project downtown and, through the continued generosity of donors, a significant increase in giving to the College.
The College's Institutional Advancement division raised $11,618,205 for the 2015 fiscal year, which ended June 30. That figure includes funds from gifts, pledges and deferred pledges, and overall the total represents a 56 percent increase - or $4,223,743 to be exact - from the 2014 fiscal-year giving total.

Albion College to Host Marshall vs. Lumen Christi Football Game
Albion College's Sprankle-Sprandel Stadium will be the scene for football under the Friday night lights September 25, as Marshall High School will host Jackson's Lumen Christi Catholic High School in an Interstate 8 Athletic Conference matchup at 7 p.m.

Albion Volleyball Chronicles Preseason
Costa Rica Trip
The Albion College volleyball team recently returned from a preseason training and service trip in Costa Rica, "and I think we represented the program extremely well," according to Kristin Yeager, '16. Along with practices, the weeklong experience included a visit to a center for underprivileged children, a whitewater rafting trip, a zipline adventure, and a match with the Costa Rica under-20 national team.
