Katie Kirsch, '12, Markets Health Care in Africa Through Medical Start-up

While Ebola may be consuming Americans' attention regarding health crises in Africa, Katie Kirsch, '12 (left), is working to solve less dramatic but equally critical needs. Kirsch is one of three twentysomething women who together formed Sisu Global Health, a Grand Rapids-based medical device developer and manufacturer focused on an African market. The company recently received a $250,000 USAID grant to further its operations in Ghana.

Albion College President Mauri Ditzler has announced the appointment of Robert Anderson, currently acting associate vice president and chief development officer for the University of Michigan Health System (UMHS) in Ann Arbor, as vice president for alumni relations and development, effective February 23, 2015.

Wayne Bond, '10, Reflects On Life-Changing Experience in Nepal

Wayne Bond, '10, will always be a Briton as an Albion College men's basketball alumnus.

To children in Nepal, he's known as the "black lion," after he delivered nearly 120 books during a self-funded trip that stretched from Nov. 14 to Dec. 1.

Your Admission Referrals Are Now Applicants

Thank you to all the alumni, parents, faculty and staff who have referred high school students to Albion College! Your enthusiasm is exceeding all expectations. By January 10, Admission had received 567 referrals of high school students, 393 of them seniors. And 60% of referred seniors have applied already.

All referred students who are admitted will earn a $1,000 scholarship a year, for four years, in your name! We hope you will stay engaged with your student referrals and encourage them to take their next step toward joining the Albion Class of 2019.

Deadlines you should know:

  • February 15 � Last day you can submit a referral
    for a high school senior
  • February 15 � Recommended deadline for high
    school seniors to submit Financial Aid forms
  • March 1 � Recommended deadline for high school seniors to apply, to be considered for academic scholarships

Class Giving Competition Updates

2015 Race for the Shield Competition
The Race for the Shield 2015 Competition continues to bring excitement among the reunion classes each year. Classes celebrating a reunion in 2015 end in �5� and �0�, between 1955-2010. Currently the class of 1960 is in the lead for both Highest Total Giving and Highest Class Participation. Don�t let the class of 1960 be in the lead for too long; make your gift to help boost your class rankings!

Fiscal Year 2015 Influential 20s Competition
The Influential 20s Competition, which runs from July 1 to June 30 of each year, is in full swing. Currently the class of 1997 is in the lead with 11% class participation. Tied in second place are the classes of 1998 and 1999 with 9.4%. Keep up the momentum and help your class by making a gift, of any size to any designation, by June 30, 2015. Albion College's International Efforts Recognized at D.C. Event

President Mauri Ditzler was in Washington, D.C. in December as Albion College received a national award for its campus internationalization efforts, among them its well-established French Sister City relationship.

"Our international efforts permeate every academic department and office on campus," Ditzler said.
