Albion Is The Star At President Ditzler's Inauguration
While Albion College is admired for its national reputation, its importance to the Midwest was front and center for the inauguration of Mauri Ditzler as the College’s 16th president on Friday, September 12.
Several hundred students cheered as the crowds gathered at the newly redeveloped west end of Albion’s quadrangle for a ceremony that demonstrated Ditzler’s focus on placing Albion as an integral partner with the surrounding community and region.
“We are blessed to be hosted by a city that refused to fold when the industry that drove the local economy disappeared. When so many other cities might have given up, Albion held the faith,” Ditzler praised. “After all, they had to nurture a distinctively American college."

Refer A Student: Four Easy Steps
Alumni and parents are definitely riding the wave of Albion College enthusiasm; in the last six weeks, they have referred 166 high school students for admission! We expect an increase in applications as a result of all these referrals and the scholarships they represent. Students who did not originally have Albion College on their radar are now considering the college more seriously.
What about you? You can help share the Albion experience by referring one, five, or 10 high school students. You only need to provide the student's basic contact information, the high school name, and the term of college entry.
It's as simple as 1-2-3-4!
1. Any alum or parent can complete the online form.
2. An admission counselor will contact the student within 10 days.
3. You will receive updates regarding the status of your referred student.
4. Should the student enroll, he/she will receive a $1,000 Alumni Referral Scholarship in your name!

The Far Side of FURSCA: Marina
Baker, '17, Dives into Moon Craters
Researching the age of craters on the far side of the Moon one year into a college experience is one thing. Focusing on a specific crater named decades ago for a 19th-century alumnus of the same college is something else.
Marina Baker, ’17, had that unique opportunity this summer, and made initial inroads with associate professor of physics Nicolle Zellner toward a goal of determining the age of the Moulton Crater, named for 1894 Albion graduate Forest Ray Moulton, a leading American astronomer during the first half of the 20th century.

Optics Expert Cleans Clark Telescope
John Augustine, an expert in antique telescope restoration, recently dismantled and cleaned the 130-year-old Alvan Clark telescope, housed in the Honors Observatory.
Augustine said the telescope should be cleaned about every five years. Albion's Clark telescope was overdue for servicing.
"Optically, it's very high quality," Augustine said.
