AUGUST 2014
Albion College Refer-a-Student Program Offers $1,000 Scholarships

There are many high school students who would be a great fit, but need some encouragement to apply to Albion College. Our recently-launched referral program allows alumni and parents to refer students directly to the Office of Admission. This ensures that students will receive Albion admission materials and personalized contact from their admission counselor, hopefully leading to more applicants.
Not only are referrals a great way to help the college, they also make Albion more affordable for students. If your referred student is admitted and chooses Albion, the student will receive a $1,000 scholarship in your name—$4,000 over four years—with no financial commitment necessary from you.
You must fill out your referral forms for high school seniors before they submit an application to Albion, so hurry before it's too late! Seniors are starting to apply now!

Albion-Connected Shark Research
Lurks in Major Exhibit
In the Oceans wing of National Geographic Presents: Earth Explorers at the Museum of Science and Industry, one display includes a mention of findings from a team led by Jeff Carrier, professor emeritus of biology, that an individual litter of nurse shark pups could be fathered by more than one male.
The conclusions were drawn over a number of years starting in the early 1990s and led to a 2002 paper, “Multiple Paternity in the Nurse Shark,” in the journal Environmental Biology of Fishes.
