Education Department Receives National Excellence Award
Albion College's Education Department was recently recognized as a Model of Excellence by the Association of Independent Liberal Arts Colleges for Teacher Education (AILACTE). Albion was cited as the 2012 Liberal Arts College division winner.
"It says a lot about our commitment to future teachers, the mission of the College, and the way education happens here," said department chair Kyle Shanton of the award. "We do challenging but very rewarding work and this award is very deeply meaningful."

Albion College is pleased to announce the winners of the 2013 Young Alumni Awards. These alumni have demonstrated exceptional achievement within 10 years of graduating and are the recipients of the 2013 Albion College Young Alumni Awards - Top 10 in 10.

College Launches Redesigned albion.edu
Albion College launched its redesigned website March 22, featuring a new look, improved navigation, and more interactive content than ever before.
The site includes expanded video content and other special features including alumni Success Stories and more detailed information on the Albion Advantage. It also allows users to navigate easily to the College’s social media pages—Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and more—that are regularly updated with news about Albion’s people and programs and opportunities for users to share their news and opinions with the College.

Economics and Management Alumni Speak During Unique Class
Working in a pilot program through the Great Lakes Colleges Association (GLCA), Albion economics and management professor Vicki Baker has paired her human resources management class with an international management class in Greece. The classes met jointly for a videoconference where questions were asked of Kurt Wiese, ’78, an executive director at General Motors; Brian McPheely, ’78, the CEO of Pratt Industries; and Jeff Weedman, ’75, formerly vice president for global business development for Procter & Gamble and now serving as a CEO on loan to launch Cintrifuse, a regional innovation accelerator and venture fund of funds.

Kevin Riley, '15, Spends Year Away from Albion to Help Friend�
Kevin Riley, an Albion College junior lacrosse player from Trumbull, Conn., was spending a relaxing summer day with one of his best friends, Chris O’Brien on July 27, 2011.
They became friends in sixth grade, eventually spending every summer day together despite the fact that they attended rival high schools. On this particular day, they headed to Block Island, R.I., to savor a day on the beach.
"It was a perfect day," says Riley. "There wasn’t a cloud in the sky, and we met some awesome people while we were hanging out."
The last thing on anyone's mind was tragedy, but that's what they got.

Mallory Brown, '08, Extends World Clothes Line with African Excursion
In the fall of 2012, Brown spent 100 days driving from Egypt to South Africa, distributing more than 600 T-shirts to children in orphanages and to many people she met along the way. Traveling in two Subaru Foresters with four other philanthropists, Brown and the group slept in tents and cooked meals over open fires.
"Africa is intense," she said. "Navigating through the extreme road conditions, language barriers, diverse cultures, and unpredictable conditions was a huge challenge. It tested every part of my being, and I've truly learned what I'm made of."

Albion Students Invited to Governor's Economic Summit
Albion College seniors Heather Waldron, Paige Narins, and Lauren Wysocki were invited to be part of the Governor's Economic Summit on March 18-19 in Detroit. All three women participated in regional Young Talent Panel sessions along with attending the general summit.
The summit is a statewide effort to support Michigan business through networking and sharing information.

Shannon Duvall to Lead Advancement at New College of Florida
After four years as Albion College's associate vice president for development, Shannon Duvall will depart Albion effective April 17 to become New College of Florida's next Vice President for Advancement and Executive Director of the New College Foundation.
At Albion, Duvall has been responsible for major and planned giving, annual giving, corporate and foundation relations, prospect management and research, and staff development and training.
"I am deeply grateful for the many opportunities provided during my tenure at Albion," Duvall said

In conjunction with Homecoming weekend, the Alumni Association will again host the Distinguished Alumni Awards ceremony on October 11, 2013. Please consider a nominee for the 2013 award by completing a nomination form for Achievement or Service.
Deadline for nominations is April 1, 2013. Only nominations submitted through the online form will be considered.
