The classes met jointly for a videoconference where questions were asked of Kurt Wiese, ’78, an executive director at General Motors; Brian McPheely, ’78, the CEO of Pratt Industries; and Jeff Weedman, ’75, formerly vice president for global business development for Procter & Gamble and now serving as a CEO on loan to launch Cintrifuse, a regional innovation accelerator and venture fund of funds.

Kevin Riley, '15, Spends Year Away from Albion to Help Friend

Kevin Riley and Chris O’Brien

Kevin Riley, an Albion College junior lacrosse player from Trumbull, Conn., was spending a relaxing summer day with one of his best friends, Chris O’Brien on July 27, 2011.

They became friends in sixth grade, eventually spending every summer day together despite the fact that they attended rival high schools. On this particular day, they headed to Block Island, R.I., to savor a day on the beach.

"It was a perfect day," says Riley. "There wasn’t a cloud in the sky, and we met some awesome people while we were hanging out."

The last thing on anyone's mind was tragedy, but that's what they got.

Mallory Brown, '08, Extends World Clothes Line with African Excursion

In the fall of 2012, Brown spent 100 days driving from Egypt to South Africa, distributing more than 600 T-shirts to children in orphanages and to many people she met along the way. Traveling in two Subaru Foresters with four other philanthropists, Brown and the group slept in tents and cooked meals over open fires.

"Africa is intense," she said. "Navigating through the extreme road conditions, language barriers, diverse cultures, and unpredictable conditions was a huge challenge. It tested every part of my being, and I've truly learned what I'm made of."
