Celebrate Halloween all month long!

Dear Family Travelers:

Got your witch's hat ready?

These days, Halloween fun started in mid-September and in some cases, lasts through the first week in November.

You'll find lots of Halloween ideas you might not have known about along with what theme parks have to offer in the Taking the Kids Fall Family Getaways section. Is it possible your tweens and teens would want to spend a weekend with you?

Here are five ideas:
  • Spend a night in a "haunted" colonial house at Colonial Williamsburg or head down to Virginia for the Halloween Weekend "Blackbeard's Revenge" festival where Blackbeard's crew-they were tried and convicted on Williamsburg's streets in 1719-return to take their revenge. And if that doesn't scare your teens enough, there's also Busch Garden's Howl O' Screams  nearby.
  • Opt for a haunted trail at Ace Adventure Resort in West Virginia at Nightmare on the Gorge the second two weekends in October. With over 1,500 acres, the resort promises there are plenty of hidden corners for creatures to hide.
  • Every Great Wolf Lodge throughout North America has Howl-O-Ween activities scheduled the entire month of October which are included in your stay complete with daily Halloween parade, weekend, Monster Bash Dance Party and a Howl-O-Ween house.
  • Grab the tent or camper and head to a campground for the weekend. KOA Campgrounds around the country, for example, have plenty of Spooktacular Weekends.
  • The new Crayola Experience in Orlando has Monster Mania all through October for young artists with special "monsterific" crafts.
Just make sure your costume won't embarrass the kids!
