National Speaker Series
Everyone Leads: Building Leadership from the Community Up
With decades of experience finding, recruiting and training diverse young leaders across the country, Public Allies CEO Paul Schmitz has encapsulated many of his greatest insights and lessons in the book "Everyone Leads: Building Leadership from the Community Up".
Paul has traveled the country to deliver hundreds of talks and workshops about the lessons of leadership, diversity, and community service. He provides an empowering new definition of what leadership is: an action someone takes, not a position someone holds. Paul uses inspiring stories and interactive exercises to engage audience members to reflect on their own leadership journeys; think differently about their and others' leadership possibilities; and explore five values essential for leaders to practice in order to bring people and groups together to create better solutions.

"When I agreed to be part of the mentoring program, I was looking forward to helping Allison. I didn't realize what a great source of information and feedback she would be for me in my own professional role. What a great program! I have thoroughly enjoyed having the opportunity to get to know Allison better and share professional challenges and interests."
-Lauren Brookey, TCC
Mentor to Allison Walden
Every month the AFP chapter will feature a real-life experience of an AFP member that speaks to the value and authenticity of mentorship. If you're interested in participating in the mentorship program as a mentor or a mentee, please contact Kate Davis.

Fundraising with Businesses by Joe Waters
|
One of the aspects of fundraising development professionals often struggle with is corporate partnerships. Building relationships with businesses is often difficult due to corporate executives' increasingly busy schedules as well as businesses' sometimes strict policies on philanthropic giving.
Joe Waters' book, Fundraising with Businesses, provides 40 new-and-improved strategies for nonprofits to leverage corporations large and small to give.
This excellent resource has fantastic ideas that are fresh and current, involving social media and quick and simple ways for busy professionals and their companies to give back. Specific case examples and step-by-steps are used to give development professionals clear guidance on how to implement these fundraising tools.
Whether your organization is new to soliciting corporate partnerships or you are looking to refresh your corporate giving program, Fundraising with Businesses is a fantastic resource.
