Dean's Update: Transforming Collections 

As we finally move into spring, how many among us are anxious to shed our winter jackets in favor of warmer weather? Spring is an exciting time of sunshine and new growth, but with that comes housekeeping - weeding, planting and spring-cleaning. For the Libraries, spring marks a time to review our collections as we plan to make room for more up to date references and feature an resources that will stimulate discovery and reading enjoyment. Weeding - or deselecting in the library community - is a necessary process, in reference to both gardens and library collections as in order to raise the visibility, access and health of the materials you choose to keep, you must remove items that clutter the landscape.  

74 BOOK AUTHORS & EDITORS RECOGNIZED AT CELEBRATING DREXEL AUTHORS 2014

More than 70 Drexel authors and editors were recognized for contributions to scholarship through their 2013 book publications at Celebrating Drexel Authors on Tuesday, March 11, 2014. The second-annual event gathered authors from multiple disciplines, schools and colleges to recognize the diverse research completed at Drexel.


WHERE ON CAMPUS IS JAY BHATT?  DREXEL'S EMBEDDED LIBRARIAN

Two days a week you can find liaison librarian for engineering, Jay Bhatt, hanging out in a student lounge. On these days, Jay transports his laptop and his library expertise to provide coaching and guidance to students and faculty on-site. Jay calls it "Being Connected," his own spin on the embedded librarianship concept.

WHAT IS THE ROLE OF COPYRIGHT IN ACADEMIA?

On Friday, March 21, 2014, 47 Drexel students, faculty, staff and local information science professionals filed into the URBN Center Annex for a mystifying yet pertinent current issue: copyright. As intellectual property rights and digital rights management affect digital scholarship, awareness and interest in copyright has grown significantly.

W. W. HAGERTY LIBRARY GROUP STUDY ROOM DEDICATED TO RACHEL & ORVAL LOVETT

Rachel Garber Lovett '47 joined 12 members of her family on Saturday, March 30, 2014 to unveil a group study room that her family dedicated to her and her late husband Orval Lovett '47. Through their gift, the group study room now features white board walls for collaborative work and lightweight and mobile furnishings.
