December 3, 2013, CTPF offered a webinar with information about SB1, State Pension Reform legislation. If you missed the webinar, you can view a recorded version here.
The webinar offered an overview of state pension reform legislation and included a Question and Answer Session conducted by CTPF Executive Director Kevin B. Huber. You can read a summary of the Question and Answer session here.

CTPF 2014 Retirement Seminars
If you're considering retirement in 2014, please join us for a CTPF retirement seminar. The seminars provide a one-stop shop for retirement information including a general overview of the retirement process, assistance completing forms, and free copy and notary services.
Representatives from CTPF's Member Services Department, the Chicago Public Schools, the Social Security Administration, and financial services firms will also be available to answer individual questions.
Retirement Seminar Registration is now open. Registration is required and seating is limited,
Preparing for Retirement
The sooner you get started, the easier the retirement process will be. Here are three steps you can take right now:
- Visit the retirement readiness website at members.ctpf.org. This site features tools to help you prepare for retirement, including a downloadable retirement application and helpful checklists.
- Organize your required documentation and request any missing vital records. The application, available here, includes a list of required documentation.
- Register your personal e-mail with CTPF. Your CPS e-mail address will terminate when you retire so it's important to share your personal e-mail to stay in touch. Click here to register.

Find information about the 2013-2014 Board of Trustees, a review of Pension Fund Ambassador activities and opportunities, a calendar of upcoming training events, and more.
Find information on Health Insurance and Medicare rates for 2014, a review of steps you can take to make sure you stay up-to-date with CTPF, a legislative review, and an Ambassador update.
December Pension Fund Ambassador Training
December 19, 2013, CTPF conducted two Ambassador training sessions in the CTPF office. The training events offered the opportunity to learn more about the fund, and demonstrated the resources CTPF has made available for helping members communicate with legislators.

"Our retirees are well aware of the changes to State of Illinois pensions, and they're concerned about their own retirement security. These seminars help our members understand the legislative process, and how to communicate effectively with legislators," said Jackie Umbles, communications specialist.
Additional seminars and webinars will be held this winter and spring.

CTPF Board of Trustees President Jay C. Rehak had a video clip featured on the Al Jazeera America TV show, "The Stream" which aired Tuesday, December 17, during an episode which reviewed Chicago's pension situation. The program was repeated on Sunday, December 22, 2013, at 11:30 a.m. central time.
