WORSHIP ARTS RETREAT

Territorial Music Institute
July 24 - August 2, 2014

Another great year at TMI 2014!! With close to 200 delegates from all over the 15 Southern States, it proved to be another BANNER YEAR!!!

The week revolved around the theme "We Believe". Captain Mike Harris shared morning manna with us each day, and he taught, reminded, and challenged both delegates and staff on the doctrines on which we stand as a Salvation Army.

Neil Smith (TMS Western Territory) and Dorothy Nancekievill (International Staff Songster Leader) were our special guests for the week. What a blessing it was to be under their leadership.

The delegates were also able to 'go to the Ballet'!! We were blessed by a magnificent performance by Ballet Magnificat! A night some of us will never forget!

We here at the THQ Music & Arts Education Department will continue to lift the delegates, staff, and Divisions up in prayer in the coming days - praying that you will stand firm on what WE BELIEVE!

Kaitlyn Hardiman (NCV)
Read here about the amazing blessings she received at the TAM conservatory in New York this summer!

TAM was absolutely FANTASTIC!!! I am so thankful I was able to attend. The people I met, both students and instructors, are just great connections to have and hold on to.

The Creative Arts leadership track was really useful. The first half of the week was mostly just open discussion about the things we wanted to know any problems we may have been experiencing. So we all just brainstormed and shared ideas and concepts.
There wasn't a set lesson plan of what we were going to learn,
it was up to us, leaders leading leaders.

Anna Street is wonderful and she has a lot of very insightful information.

The second half of the week we learned how to put a program together,  we learned how to put an arts program together, and all of the things we need to think about. Such as how to determine what goes first, the transitions that need to be kept in mind. Which I found helpful, especially if I hope to open a studio one day.

We got to take a technique class of our choice each day. So I was able to jump around between the dance classes to take class, as well as see how each
eacher works with each of the levels.

There was also a lot of focus on spiritually growing. In the morning, we would start with worship, which would lead into a group devotion, then after that we would break up into smaller groups to do group devotions. Then at night we would do another group/individual devotions. We had a book with questions we used all week that went with
each of the devotions throughout the day.

They also had these things called "branch" groups. Everyone would break off with their own division and come up with a performance piece to perform at their family camp (dancers, actors, and musicians all collaborated and made some excellent pieces)

We also had a night in NYC and saw Matilda. Before that we split off into our devotion groups and did street ministry around the city.

It was such a wonderful week! I really wish everyone was able to experience it!!
