 The Hogar de Vida Pre-School

When the Lord sent me here to Hogar de Vida Costa Rica a few years ago, I remember thinking, "Wow! What a beautiful place!" Everyone seemed so full of God's love, on mission to win people to the Lord and focused on blessing the at-risk children who live here . It would seem that every week and sometimes every day I would find another depth to this place.

I have known for a while now that we have a pre-school on site (don't miss the pre-school video), but I never realized the amount of work that goes into the program. Karla, our full time professional Psychologist, has a complete plan, not only for the school, but for every child that stays with us.

At first, I thought that we just kind of found things for kids to do to keep them busy. With a little research, I learned that there is a very intentional and profound program to provide the tools the children need to deal with their future.

The pre-school has three class rooms, a large central area for mixed activities, a fully stocked library and of course a toy room - plus an office. Everything from the toys to the books to the crayons lying around is used to teach our kids about group interaction, concentration, hand-eye coordination and self-expression. Entwined in all activities is the love of Jesus and the grandness of our Father.

One day, I stopped by to get pictures, but found myself out back just watching the children and their lessons. The ever present heart of the Tia's for these children was so evident as I just took in everything that was going on. The place was just full of smiles and laughter and dreams on every face. Meanwhile, Karla seemed to be everywhere all the time, monitoring the progress and effect of the program as a whole, and on each child individually.

One of the main things the pre-school has taught me is that everything at Hogar de Vida runs deep. When you first encounter this place you see the beauty of the mango trees, the flowers, and the colorful freshly painted buildings. Kids playing and laughing. It is indeed like a "bubble of Jesus" here. But as time goes by, you see the beauty is deeper. The love everyone here has for the children, reflected in our pre-school, as well as everything else we do. Hogar de Vida is infused with Jesus, Love, and real Hope.

I am daily more blessed with being a part of this team.
