Dear Partners and Friends of Hogar de Vida
,
This letter comes to you with an urgent request. I spoke to my daughter, Dena, just a few minutes ago by phone, and realized right away from the tone of her voice that something was troubling her. . .
But before I say more about that, I want to take a moment to thank God for 21st Century modern electronic technology. When Dena was growing up fifty years ago as a missionary kid in Papua New Guinea, it took two months for a postal letter to reach someone stateside. There were no phones, and the nearest telegraph station was half a day's drive over the Mt. Hagen range from our mission station in the Western Highlands. Today I can pick up my phone in Jacksonville, FL, dial a local number, and speak with my family in Atenas, Costa Rica, almost instantaneously. The contrast is remarkable. I believe the Lord has provided these electronic marvels in our day to expedite the extension of His Kingdom before Jesus' soon return.
Now . . . back to the purpose for this letter. Those of you who have visited or worked at Homes of Life already appreciate the vital role Tias play in this ministry. Every parent knows how infants, toddlers, and preschool children all require constant attention and supervision just to keep them safe and to meet basic physical needs. Beyond that, the spiritual and psychological needs of these abused and abandoned children must be met. The lion's share of that task, 24/7/365, falls to the Tias. Over the years, God has faithfully provided qualified caregivers to meet the children's needs, but more recently it has become increasingly difficult to comply with government regulations, including rising minimum wage, hiring restrictions, etc. Some of the best qualified staff also have families of their own, limiting the number of working hours they are available. Bottom line -- more money is required not only to support current staffing levels, but the expanding number of full time and part time Tias necessary to do the job.
One of the things I have learned through my experience as a missionary is not to shy away from putting legitimate needs 'out there,' thus allowing the Lord to impress upon those Saints who are listening the opportunity to be a channel of blessing. And now, with the miracle of instant communication available to us, it's amazing to see how quickly a need can be met. With that in mind, I'm asking you to consider doing this:
-
Pray for additional qualifiedTias
- Sponsor a Tia at $100 per month. Seven sponsors needed.
- Keep the entire Homes of Life ministry in your prayers
- Visit the Homes of Life web site to stay connected
- Find us at Face Book: Hogar de Vida
Thank you for responding to this request as the Spirit leads you.
Blessings on you!
Dave Lorenz, (Dena's Dad)
PS To make a sponsorship commitment, review the description of the Sponsorship Program. We are asking for seven new sponsors at the Love and Care level: $100 per month, which is roughly the average cost per child of Tia salaries. Then set up your monthly check donation and designate Homes of Life Costa Rica, and Tia Sponsorship and Check Amount. If you prefer an automatic payment, make the same designation on the Credit Card or EFT forms.
