Director's Message

The Olive Couplets placed-based poetry exhibit will be on display for another week so please stop in and see it, and contribute your own words!

Do you have any friends or family who have yet to discover the innumerable benefits of being a patron of the Olive Free Library? September is Library Card Sign-Up Month and we will enter each person who signs up for a new card into a raffle for a $25 gift certificate for the Boiceville Market.

In response to interest from some people in the community we are going to start up a community art gallery in the library's community room. We will start with a Small Works Art Show in November. We welcome artists to bring framed works, ready for hanging (no larger than 12" in any direction). Please email us for more information.

Books will be on sale at Olive Day, and then we will continue the low Olive Day prices until we reduce our inventory. All adult books are $1 each. Kids books are 4 for $1.

There will be no yoga class on Labor Day. A new 12-week yoga class session starts on Wednesday, September 7.
A discounted price from the $6 drop-in rate is offered for enrolling in a 12-week session.

Consumer Reports will now be available for free via our website! All patrons with a library card will be able to search the full Consumer Reports online site. Please contact the library if you need help accessing the site.

Save the date for a concert on December 3, and for our Holiday Fair on December 10th. We are always looking for new local vendors so please spread the word.

See you at the library!

When Doris begins showing up at John's regular haunts, she wins over his Williamsburg friends. Her new life brings Doris a thrilling perspective, but also creates a rift between her and her longtime friends and family, who believe she's making a fool of herself over a guy half her age. Movie Matinee: Ben Hur

Ben-Hur is a 1959 American epic historical drama film, directed by William Wyler and starring Charlton Heston as the title character.
Ben-Hur had the largest budget as well as the largest sets built of any film produced at the time. Costume designer Elizabeth Haffenden oversaw a staff of 100 wardrobe fabricators to make the costumes, and a workshop employing 200 artists and workmen provided the hundreds of friezes and statues needed in the film. It was the fastest-grossing as well as the highest-grossing film of 1959, in the process becoming the second-highest-grossing film in history at the time after Gone with the Wind. It won a record 11 Academy Awards.
