Director's Message

Pardon our dust! We are replacing the carpet in the community room with a cork floor and the project has disrupted some of our programs that normally happen in that room. The new floor will be great for all the things the room is currently used for like yoga, concerts, story hour, etc. It will also be good for things we couldn't do with a carpet, like dancing! We expect the project to be complete during the first week of May.

The last Piano Plus concert of the season will be on Saturday, May 28 and will feature pianist Mei Hsuan-Huang. Audiences have been thoroughly thrilled by the first two performances this season. This is a great opportunity to hear world-class musicians right in our backyard, and is a wonderful treat for out-of-town guests.

The annual meeting of the Olive Free Library Association will be on Wednesday, May 18 at 7 p.m. There will be an annual report to the community followed by refreshments. All are welcome.

In case you missed signing up, it's not too late. We are now a Friday drop off location for Rondout Valley Organics, a group of local organic farms in the Rondout Valley. It is similar to a CSA but includes more than vegetables and more flexibility. Please visit the website to learn more about the farms and find out how to join. There will be lots of vegetables available during the growing season.

The monthly community dinners are really a hit. The next one will be on Thursday, May 26 at 6:00 p.m. The Boy Scouts do a wonderful job of serving, and everyone enjoys visiting and getting to share a meal with neighbors. Please come, and spread the word.

See you at the library!

Free Reiki Clinic

Reiki means 'universal life force'.  It is the vital energy that naturally flows through and nurtures all living things. Receiving Reiki is known to have a soothing, healing, refreshing and balancing effect on the whole being.  While you lie fully clothed and covered on a comfortable massage table, listening to soft music, the practitioner will place her hands gently on your body and allow the Reiki energy to flow.  Clients often feel warmth or a pleasant tingling, although each client's experience will be unique.  Many clients relax so deeply they fall asleep.  Reiki is not allied to any particular religion or belief system. Sessions are 45 minutes each starting at 10:30, 11:30, 12:30, 1:30 and 2:30.
Pre-registration required.

Book Discussion Group

Named a Best Book of the Year by the New York Times Book Review, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, Seattle Times and many publications.

"A profound, startling, and beautifully crafted debut novel, The Sympathizer is the story of a man of two minds, someone whose political beliefs clash with his individual loyalties. In dialogue with but diametrically opposed to the narratives of the Vietnam War that have preceded it, this novel offers an important and unfamiliar new perspective on the war: that of a conflicted communist sympathizer."
