Director's Message

For five Fridays in October we had a group of kids from Bennett Elementary come to the library for an after school nature club program. Each week we went into the woods with an environmental educator and learned more about nature. We plan to offer two more sessions this school year. This program has been supported by a generous grant from the Hudson Valley Foundation for Youth Health. (Thank you!).

The community quilting group that meets on the second Tuesday of the month recently delivered 71 beautiful quilts to Project Linus of Ulster County. These quilts will be given to homeless and terminally ill children in Ulster County. This is an active and fun group if you like to sew and want to give back in the community. They made one quilt for us to raffle at the holiday fair!

In the past few months we have featured pictures from our pollinator garden, but no more! We had a couple of cold nights that killed all the flowers. We could use help clearing up the pollinator garden for winter, so if you are inclined to volunteer a few hours please let us know!

We are still collecting emails of people who would like to receive weekly update emails. If you would like to be on this list, sign up here.

We are currently looking for more people to join the library's board of trustees. Right now we could especially use someone with skills in building, contracting or architecture to help us set priorities for building improvements and review bids from contractors, and we are always looking for people who are good at event planning, and lots of other skills. The monthly board meetings are open to the public, and those interested in joining the board are encouraged to sit in on a meeting.

One of our librarians, Betsey Massee, is going back to being a school librarian. Betsey has been a vibrant member of our library team and will be missed very much! She will be working at the library in the evening on Monday, Nov. 2 if you want to come by and wish her good luck in her new job. In mid-November, Jamie Wood will join the library team. Jamie has a diverse background in education as a teacher, and more recently in non-profit program management. She will be an asset to the library in many ways, not the smallest of which are her friendliness and lovely smile.

See you at the library!

Rated 98% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes!  Inside Out is an outstandingly original, heartfelt story from Pixar about growing up and learning to handle your biggest emotions. Growing up can be a bumpy road, and it's no exception for Riley, who is uprooted from her Midwest life when her father starts a new job in San Francisco. Like all of us, Riley is guided by her emotions - Joy (Amy Poehler), Fear (Bill Hader), Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (Mindy Kaling) and Sadness (Phyllis Smith). The emotions live in Headquarters, the control center inside Riley's mind, where they help advise her through everyday life.

Rated 99% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. When Shaun decides to take the day off and have some fun, he gets a little more action than he bargained for. Book Group
Saturday, November 21, 2:00 p.m.

By Suzan Saxman

We all, as children, saw imaginary friends and heard monsters in the closet. But for Suzan Saxman, those friends and monsters didn't go away-and they weren't imaginary. They were the dead who came to her from the time she was a little girl with urgent messages for the living. Raised in a house filled with secrets, she saw and spoke the truth as soon as she could talk, alarming the nuns in her convent school with her revelations and terrifying her own mother with her strange visions.

Come discuss this with other book lovers!

Library Beehive Project
Update-Safety glass has arrived

Local Boy Scout, Blake Overton, is building an observation beehive for the library thanks to many donations raised in the past year. He is now in the construction phase of the project. The safety glass arrived recently which will allow us to observe the bees. As you can tell from the picture, the hive is quite large! The hive fits into a kiosk which Blake designed, drew in a CAD program and which he is also building.
