Director's Message

We are kicking off a Thursday night movie series. If you have ideas for a film series, or specific movies you would like us to screen, please let us know so we can schedule them.

Our history exhibit opening was a highlight of December. Many folks came in to learn about the history of the Town of Olive from artifacts in our collection and from the Ulster County Archives, expertly presented courtesy of the Office of the County Clerk.  The exhibit will be up through 2015 if you did not have a chance to come to the opening.
Pictured above at the ribbon-cutting ceremony are from left to right: Donald Bishop; Congressman Chris Gibson; Exhibit Curator, Rejoice Scherry; Town of Olive Board Member, James Sofranko; Katie Scott-Childress; and Nina Postupack, Ulster County Clerk.

Our short, quick, survey of the community is continuing until January 10. If you have not had a chance, please take a moment to fill it out.

We are seeking volunteers to help with our book sale. We can use both regular volunteers, and volunteers for a large book fair event.  If you have some time and love books, please contact the library.

Happy New Year!

Gardening (almost!) Year Round
Master Gardener Lecture

We often think gardening ends with the last frost, but you can coax greens to keep producing for December holiday dinners, and start again in February.  What are the secrets you need to know?
If you are willing to experiment, this class will teach you to use cold frames and low tunnels and other equipment, along with especially cold-hard varieties, to grow greens and other vegetables most of the year.  With a little luck, a cold frame
or low-tunnel and some mache or tatsoi seeds, and other greens, you can have a delicious salad this December!

Color for Residential Interiors

For most people, choosing paint colors can be overwhelming. Not only is it necessary to take the room's furnishings into consideration, but paint finish, adjacent room color, sight lines, architecture and light sources, all play an important role in making an informed choice.

This 60 minute talk (plus Q & A) is comprised of a Powerpoint lecture including over 50 examples of how and how not to use color.  The talk combines both the science and art of proper color application and an exploration of the profound emotional, psychological and physiological effects that color has on all of us.

Please take the library survey!

The library wants to know what you want to see at the library in terms of programs, books, and other materials and services. Please take a few minutes to fill out this survey in order to help us learn how to serve you better!

Library Beehive Project

Local Boy Scout, Blake Overton, is building an observation beehive for the library where people will be able to learn about bees by observing them up close. The hive is entirely safe and may inspire others to keep bees. To learn more about the project click here.

Snowshoes Wanted!

The library is seeking donations of snowshoes in good condition that we can lend out (just like we loan out books and ukuleles!) We are particularly interested in kids sizes right now so we can take kids in the nature club out in the woods during the winter. If you have any snow shoes you would like to donate, please bring them to the library. Thank you!
