Director's Message

Thanks to the generous talents of David Andrews, we have a new logo! This will start to appear on all library communications. We like it because it is clean, clear, simple, somewhat traditional, and somewhat modern, and it helps connect the library to the Town of Olive seal. Thank you David!

Please mark you calendars for the Holiday Craft Fair December 6th. This year we will have some special treats in addition to a delicious hot lunch and locally-made gifts. There will be a ukulele sing-along, a children's book author reading, and fun crafts to entertain the young (and young at heart).

In addition, there will be a new history museum exhibit opening on Saturday, December 6. The exhibit will focus on how the Town of Olive looked before the reservoir, the intense wrangling that went on between the town's people and the city over the seizure of their homes, and the construction of the dam. The exhibit will be a collaboration with the Ulster County Archives. Please stay tuned for more details about the ribbon cutting ceremony.

Please note that the library will be closed for Thanksgiving, and the day after, Friday, November 28. Please come see us on Saturday!

See you at the library!
--Katie

Delicious
By
Ruth Reichl

In her bestselling memoirs Ruth Reichl has long illuminated the theme of how food defines us, and never more so than in her dazzling fiction debut about sisters, family ties, and a young woman who must finally let go of guilt and grief to embrace her own true gifts. (Goodreads)

Red Cross Shelter Training
Saturday November 22nd 10am -2pm

Learn how to support your community in times of disaster

This 4 hour course is designed to provide you with the necessary training to open, set up, operate, and close a Red Cross shelter during a disaster. Become part of a team of caring volunteers who will provide a safe and secure environment for affected individuals during natural disasters, which have become more and more frequent as the climate continues to change.

The training is free and open to the public, but RSVP is required. A minimum of 8 registrants is required or the training will be cancelled.

RSVP to Shelter Coordinator Monica Raiss at [email protected] or 310-850-2236

How to Train Your Dragon 2 (PG)

When Hiccup and Toothless discover an ice cave that is home to hundreds of new wild dragons and the mysterious Dragon Rider, the two friends find themselves at the center of a battle to protect the peace. Common Sense Media says, appropriate for ages 7 and up. Rotten Tomatoes rates it 92% fresh!
Library Beehive Project

Local Boy Scout, Blake Overton, is building an observation beehive for the library where people will be able to learn about bees by observing them up close. The hive is entirely safe and may inspire others to keep bees. To learn more about the project click here.

Snowshoes Wanted!

The library is seeking donations of snowshoes in good condition that we can lend out (just like we loan out books and ukuleles!) We are particularly interested in kids sizes right now so we can take kids in the nature club out in the woods during the winter. If you have any snow shoes you would like to donate, please bring them to the library. Thank you!
Seeds of Change

This is a picture of the first monarch butterfly we saw in the new pollinator garden! As you deadhead your pollinator-attracting flowers, such as black-eyed Susans, please bring the seeds to the library. We will spread them on the hillside facing the road in order to expand our pollinator garden.

Ukulele Circle
Wednesdays 6:00-8:00 p.m.

Pull up a ukulele and learn a song! This is a friendly group who welcomes all comers. If you do not have a ukulele but would like to participate, you can check one out from the library.
