Director's Message

Saturday, September 6, is Olive Day! Come and meet some of the library's new trustees and shop for cookbooks, gardening books, and kids' books, and support the library by entering the raffle at our booth. We have a slew of lovely books and three raffle baskets. Please also visit the Red Cross booth and learn about how to be trained to be a shelter volunteer. The library is becoming an emergency shelter in partnership with the Red Cross and needs people from the community to help out in the event of an emergency. They will offer a training at the library on November 22, so please save the date.

One of our wonderful staff members, Leah Ceperley, is moving on from the library to focus on other work. Leah is a field biologist who teaches at SUNY Ulster and works for Hudsonia, a non-profit environmental research institute. She will be coming back on Saturday, October 18 to lead us in a tree identification walk. We are fortunate to have hired a highly qualified person to replace Leah. Joy Scherry grew up in Olive, and has been coming to the library since she was a toddler. She has recently completed her Master's in Library and Information Sciences with an emphasis in archival studies. She will work with our Town Historian, Ruth Anne Muller, in organizing our history museum's collections.

We are in the process of tweaking the library's open hours in order to open earlier on some days. We plan to shift to new hours in October and will keep everyone informed, and will order new magnets!

You may have noticed our ping pong table is missing. We had to send it back because it was falling apart after less than a month's use. The good news is, a new table is on its way, and will be better built. It will arrive on September 9th.

See you at the library!
--Katie

Join us for this colorful, musical tribute to the natural beauty of Brazil, set in the Amazon. The Light Between the Oceans
By
M. L. Stedman

After four harrowing years on the Western Front, Tom Sherbourne returns to Australia and takes a job as the lighthouse keeper on Janus Rock, nearly half a day's journey from the coast. To this isolated island, where the supply boat comes once a season and shore leaves are granted every other year at best, Tom brings a young, bold, and loving wife, Isabel.

Seeds of Change

As you deadhead your pollinator-attracting flowers, such as black-eyed Susans, please bring the seeds to the library. We will spread them on the hillside facing the road in order to expand our pollinator garden.

Ukulele Circle
Wednesdays 6:00-8:00 p.m.

Pull up a ukulele and learn a song! This is a friendly group who welcomes all comers. If you do not have a ukulele but would like to participate, you can check one out from the library.

Scrabble Game

The Scrabble group meets on the second and fourth Thursdays at 1:00 p.m. This is a friendly and open gathering, all are welcome, no previous experience required.
