WEDNESDAY | The New York Stock Exchange is open during regular hours, and the U.S. bond market closes at 2 pm EST. It's a half day on many European bourses. Three regulatory deadlines.

 

THURSDAY | New Year's Day. U.S. stock and bond markets and European bourses are closed. Three regulatory deadlines, including a liquidity rules deadline: The biggest U.S. banks must begin stockpiling high-quality, easy-to-sell assets sufficient to survive a 30-day liquidity drought. Banks have two years to meet the new U.S. standards, which are based on international accords reached by the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision. Read more.
