Week InAdvance: November 10, 2014

MONDAY, NOV. 10: President Obama will travel to Beijing to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation ("APEC") leaders meeting and APEC CEO Summit. He will then travel to Myanmar to meet separately with President Thein Sein and opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi, and attend the East Asia Summit and U.S.-ASEAN Summit.

 

WEDNESDAY, NOV. 12: Treasury Secretary Jack Lew will speak to the World Affairs Council in Seattle on the economy. The Treasury's Financial Stability Oversight Council ("FSOC") will meet with industry groups and consumer advocates to address concerns that the risk council needs to be more transparent. The House and the Senate return to work to begin organizing for the 114th Congress.

 

THURSDAY, NOV. 13: Janet Yellen will make opening remarks at a Fed/ECB conference in Washington. The SEC's Director of Division of Investment Management Norm Champs will speak at the American Law Institute's forum on life insurance company products.

 

Congress begins a lame-duck session for completing the current session's legislative business. House Republicans and both parties in the Senate will hold elections to pick their leaders for the Congress that begins in January. House Democrats plan their leadership election on Nov. 18. Committee assignments won't be made until next year.

 

FRIDAY, NOV. 14: In Washington DC, an ECB executive board member will speak on "Monetary Policy Spillovers and Cooperation in a Global Economy" at a forum organized by the European Central Bank, Federal Reserve Board and Federal Reserve Bank of New York.

 

SATURDAY, NOV 15: President Obama will attend the Group of 20 meeting in Brisbane, Australia.
