This week in Washington, the Senate and the House are out on their final week of summer recess, but at the agencies, work continues.

 

On Wednesday, the Fed will meet to discuss a liquidity rule and swaps margins, and the FDIC will hold a board meeting to vote on margin and capital rules for covered swap entities. On Thursday, the FSOC will hold a closed meeting regarding non-bank systemically important financial firms, and Federal Reserve policymakers (Fed Governor Jerome Powell and two of his colleagues) will make speeches at separate events as the central bank weighs its first interest-rate increase since 2006. Rate decisions will be made in Australia, Brazil, Canada, the euro area, Japan, Sweden and the U.K. this week. Read more

 

Also on Thursday, the Bipartisan Policy Center's Financial Regulatory Reform Initiative will hold a discussion on their soon-to-be released white paper "Responding to Systemic Risk: Restoring the Balance."   The paper is expected to offer bold recommendations on ways to monitor risk to the financial system and prevent future financial crises. Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System

On Wednesday, September 3, 2014, the Fed will hold an open meeting to discuss a final rulemaking to implement a quantitative liquidity requirement in the United States as well as a proposed rule on margin requirements for non-cleared swaps of prudentially regulated swap entities. Read more

On Thursday, September 4, 2014, the FSOC (Financial Stability Oversight Council) will hold a closed meeting to discuss non-bank systemically important financial firms, the Council's work on asset management, and an update on the FED and FDIC's recent review of resolution plans submitted by big banks. On Wednesday, September 3, 2014, the FDIC Board of Directors will vote on the following memoranda and resolutions:

  • Notice of Proposed Rulemaking to Establish Margin and Capital Requirements for Covered Swap Entities
  • The Liquidity Coverage Ratio Final Rule
