Message from Ambassador Christian Dussey, GCSP's new Director
"Since I started my assignment at the GCSP in August, I have been reminded every day of how privileged I am to serve this institution. The GCSP is what it is today thanks to the dedication, expertise and diversity of its staff, representing 17 nations.
My recent conversations with partners have convinced me of the GCSP's strong impact and influence on participants who attend our courses, workshops and conferences.
Dealing with ambiguities and dilemmas, learning from failures, understanding complex issues: all these challenges require critical and strategic thinking, imagination and innovative problem-solving skills.
The GCSP is uniquely positioned to serve the current and the next generations of policy and decision-makers in governments, international organizations, non-profits, as well as in the private sector.
We, at the GCSP, will do our outmost to support them, challenge them and equip them with cutting-edge knowledge and skills. Our goal is to serve individuals and institutions so that they achieve a positive and sustainable impact on international peace and security.
The GCSP is moving forward with its ambition to anticipate and satisfy the needs of our participants and stakeholders in the increasingly complex and volatile global security arena. We will build upon our strengths: the expertise and diversity of our staff who represents a unique combination of academics and experienced practitioners, our global and influential alumni and experts networks, a committed board of 45 member states, and our location in Geneva, one of the two largest centres of international cooperation in the world. During the next few months, the GCSP staff will be busy preparing for the move to the Centre's new home, la Maison de la Paix (The House of Peace). As of January 2014, the new premises will offer outstanding opportunities. In a state-of-the-art facility, the GCSP will strive to make "The GCSP Experience" even more unique and memorable for participants and guests. I am very much looking forward to working with you and to meeting you over the coming weeks and months."

TESTIMONIAL
|
Dr Graeme P. Herd, Former Senior Programme Advisor and Senior Fellow, GCSP
"After joining the GCSP in November 2005, the time has come for me to return to the UK. I join Plymouth University as Professor, founding Director and Associate Dean, School of Government. I will also be an Associate Dean in its Faculty of Business. I experienced the core mission of the GCSP - teaching in international security - primarily through an intensive engagement with the International Training Course and Masters of Advanced Studies. Here the participants and staff of the GCSP created a vibrant learning community which combined conceptual knowledge with practice. Whether teambuilding in the Jura, participating in Public Discussions with "Genève Internationale" or through group seminars and lectures, it was an honour and privilege to be a part of this world-class course, the jewel in the GCSP's crown. Other highlights included the opportunity to contribute to and learn from various roundtable dialogue discussions and seminars, whether it be in Chambesy, Gstaad or Bishkek. I have a special weak spot for the Strategic Planning and Analysis Seminar, an intensive and focused learning experience that will be missed. As every staff member that leaves the GCSP never fails to note, people constitute the beating heart of the GCSP. I have never worked with such a diverse, qualified, talented and engaged group and their friendship and professionalism will sustain me as winter approaches, the fog rolls in from the French Channel (I did learn something about diplomacy while at the GCSP) and the nights get colder. As I embark on a new challenge in Plymouth, I wish the new Director, Ambassador Christian Dussey, and the Centre every success. May the wind always be in your sails, a spring in your step and the best before you. It is a real pleasure to be part of your alumni community - I am already much better looking and have lost two stone (!) - and I look forward to turning the page and starting a new relationship with the GCSP. Au revoir and auf wiedersehen but not goodbye."
