Town Administrator's Message

I truly have received a warm welcome which speaks so very well of the community that exists here.  It is a pleasure to work for a community that has such terrific spirit and an abundance of community involvement.  All efforts will be made to continue this and to foster more involvement.  One such effort is that my door will always be open for citizens to present viable suggestions for community development and any other topics or concerns.  I am a firm believer in a teamwork collaborative type process to address issues and create solutions.  I plan to employ this process with citizens, businesses, staff and elected officials in most situations.

There are many town wide projects and initiatives of various sorts that are underway as a result of the community spirit that exists.  We will periodically report on these things in future editions of this newsletter so that these things will become common knowledge.

It is nearly Town Meeting and you are encouraged to participate in this unique form of democracy.  I recommend that interested readers look at the Town Warrant.  The Warrant describes the exciting endeavors that Henniker can embark upon, provided the voters are willing.  In general, appropriations are being sought for many new initiatives and projects.  For example; the engineering design is going to begin for the replacement of Western Avenue Bridge, improvements are going to be made at the library and on highway equipment, funds are going to be reserved for new fire / rescue equipment and revolving funds will be opened for various essential activities that will enrich the community.  We are envisioning a bright future during 2013 and beyond.

Now Taking Orders for Weekly Farm-Fresh Produce

Terra Organics announces new CSA!  Terra Organics is a mother-daughter farm team. Denise and Monica Rico farm several acres of vegetables on the banks of the Blackwater River in Hopkinton, NH. Everything is grown using organic methods, and we are currently in the process of becoming Certified Organic.

What is a CSA?  Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is a popular way for consumers to buy local, seasonal food directly from a farmer. The farm offers "shares" or "memberships" to the public; the consumer pays the farmer upfront and then receives a weekly box of produce throughout the season.

Why join a CSA?  By paying upfront, you support your farmer when they need it the most. The CSA model gives your farmer a jumpstart on their season, allowing them to purchase seed and hire employees.

As a CSA member, you are ensured a bountiful share of the harvest. You receive a weekly box of the produce that is in season at the time. This guarantees utmost freshness, and a wide variety of foods throughout the season.

Seeing your farmer every week allows you to get to know them, and gain a deeper understanding of where your food comes from and how it is grown.

Our 2013 CSA:

  • You choose one or both seasonal shares. You choose Full or Single share size.
  • Summer Share (20 Weeks) Early June - Late October
  • Fall Share (7 Weeks) November - Mid-December
  • You choose your Pickup Day!

To become a member of our CSA or for more information, email us at terraorganicsnh@gmail.com or call Monica Rico 603.568.1562

We look forward to feeding you!

From the Henniker Chamber of Commerce

For a town this size, Henniker has a number of diverse businesses and professionals - most everything and everyone you need is right here!  You can get it in Henniker.  Also, many of our businesses use other local businesses as suppliers - farmers bring eggs to the farm store which sells them to the bed and breakfast who serves them to visitors who ski at Pats Peak and shop in Henniker's stores.  It's an economic circle in Henniker.

Henniker Community School

School After Dark on March 13 Parents, bring your children to this great event at school and attend the School District Meeting at 7 PM.  Check in is at 6:30 PM for a great night of fun, games, and a movie.  Compliments of the Henniker Teachers.

March is Wellness Month.  There will be a variety of wellness initiatives all month long including the popular Jam Minute (two mornings  a week 4th grade students lead the entire school in a minute of  jamin' exercises.)  Grades 1-5 will wear pedometers and record the steps they take and the whole school will make a pledge to do something healthy (walk, read silently for 15 minutes, try yoga are just  few suggestions) each week in March.
