Pinellas County and St. Petersburg partner with the Tampa Bay Innovation Center to create a New Downtown Business Incubator

Tampa Bay Innovation Center (TBIC), an innovation and entrepreneurship center for technology businesses, will partner with Pinellas County and the City of St. Petersburg to conceive and operate a major new business incubator. "We have enjoyed a close and productive relationship with Tampa Bay Innovation Center, and this collaboration with the TBIC team and the City of St. Petersburg is an opportunity to bring a new energy and significant resources to the Pinellas startup community," said Mike Meidel, Director of Pinellas County Economic Development. "Entrepreneurs are a crucial part of our economy. We're ready to begin working with our business community to design this space, recruit tenants and to discuss sponsorship and fund raising." As outlined in the request for Letter of Interest, the project includes a 40,000-50,000 square-foot mixed-use business incubator facility in the City of St. Petersburg that could potentially support research, innovation and entrepreneurial activity in the technology, life sciences, marine sciences and/or advanced manufacturing sectors. This event will bring together career center professionals from top colleges and universities to meet with high-tech businesses and discuss employment opportunities, hiring needs, and strategies to attract the best and brightest graduates in the country. National Small Business Week Awards Nominations
National Small Business Week has been recognizing the special impact made by outstanding entrepreneurs and small business owners since 1963. During this week, the U.S. Small Business Administration honors small business owners and entrepreneurs for their outstanding achievements. Business owners and advocates can self-nominate for the local awards, and winners of the State of Florida Small Business Person of the Year and the Florida Small Business Exporter of the Year awards will advance to the national competition and be recognized during the National Small Business Week Awards Ceremony in Washington, DC scheduled for April 30 - May 6, 2017. Dunedin School Takes Top Honors in Odyssey of the Mind Competition
After winning the Florida state championship, two teams from Dunedin Highland Middle School advanced to the Odyssey of the Mind World Finals: the 8th grade team took first place in its problem/division and the 7th grade team took second place. The 8th grade team also won the coveted Ranatra Fusca award, the highest honor in Odyssey of the Mind. Congratulations to these amazing Pinellas County students on their great achievement!

Victories For Veterans Grant Supports Services For Veterans Transitioning Back Into The Workforce
Since October 2016, CareerSource Pinellas' Veteran Services program has served nearly 400 veterans with significant barriers to employment with assistance from a $10,000 Victories for Veterans grant. Awarded by Duke Energy in partnership with the Tampa Bay Rays, the funding provides immediate, flexible, transitional supportive services customized to meet the needs of the individual veteran. "Often veterans receiving services are in difficult situations due to a series of unforeseen circumstances, unanticipated barriers and/or other issues," states Ed Peachey, President and CEO of CareerSource Pinellas. "The Victory for Veterans grant has allowed our organization to serve a greater number of veterans helping them overcome these challenges and improve the quality of their lives."
