Grilled Asian-style Drumettes Working time: 30 minutes Total preparation time : about 1 hour Serves 4
For best results, use Fire and Flavor Charcoal available at Home Farm
- 8 chicken drumsticks, skin on
- For the sauce:
- 1-1/4 c. red wine
- 1 c. + 2T. packed dark brown sugar
- 1/2 c. reduced sodium soy sauce
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- 2T. grated fresh ginger or 1T. dried ginger powder
- coarse salt
- 3T finely sliced scallions or chives
Bring wine, sugar, soy and spices to a boil in a saucepan. Simmer until the sauce has reduced and has the consistency of a thick syrup, 15 - 20 minutes. Let cool.
Using a sharp knife, score the skin and flesh on both sides of each drumstick.
Preheat the grill to medium-low, or if using a charcoal grill, when coals are covered with a coat of ash and you can hold your hand 6" above the grill comfortably for a few seconds.
Place the drumsticks on the grill and close the grill cover for 6 minutes. Brush with sauce and cook for 4 more minutes; turn drumsticks brushing with sauce every 4 - 5 minutes for a total of about 20 minutes, or until an instant-read thermometer inserted into the thickest part of the drumstick meat registers 180F degrees.
Sprinkle with salt and sliced scallions and serve immediately.

Ban Monsanto's Roundup Now!
"Last week, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared that the main chemical ingredient in Monsanto's best-selling weedkiller Roundup - Glyphosate - is "Probably carcinogenic to humans". According to WHO, glyphosate is used in more than 750 different weedkillers and is routinely detected in the air, water and our food."
"But for the past two decades Monsanto has led a campaign of deception, repeatedly claiming that both Roundup and glyphosate were perfectly safe, going so far as to say that it is "safer than table salt" and so safe, you can "drink it". Based on these dubious safety claims, an estimated 75 percent of processed foods in America contain ingredients that have been genetically engineered to survive being sprayed with massive doses of Roundup and, if you're not careful, your food is potentially covered with glyphosate residue."
"It's time to get Monsanto's Roundup off your plate, ban glyphosate and label GMOs! We need your help today. Every voice counts!"
