FROM THE DIRECTOR OF GODS AND GENERALS AND GETTYSBURG COMES THE LIBERTY MOVIE OF THE YEAR
RON MAXWELL'S COPPERHEAD
For anyone who reveres and believes in the preservation of the Constitution of the United States, Copperhead is a must see this summer!
Copperhead is unlike any Civil War movie to date. It is a film of the war at home - of a family ripped apart by war, of a community driven to an appalling act of vengeance against a man who insists on exercising his right to free speech during wartime. A story of the violent passions and burning feuds that set ablaze the homefront during the Civil War, Copperhead the movie is also a timeless and deeply moving examination of the price of dissent, the place of the individual amidst the hysteria of wartime, and the terrible price of war - a cost measured not in dollars but in fractured families, broken loves, and men dead before their time.
Based on the extraordinary novel by Harold Frederic, who witnessed these conflicts firsthand as a small child, Copperhead tells the story of Abner Beech, a stubborn and righteous farmer of Upstate New York, who defies his neighbors and his government in the bloody and contentious autumn of 1862.

Tuesday, July 30th, from 7PM-9PM Jeffersonville Golf Club 2400 W Main St, Norristown, PA 19403 (Right out side of King of Prussia, Philly, Phoenixville, Lansdale, and Conshohocken)
Hello Members and Friends,
I hope that you can join us for our monthly meeting. Its free and open to the public! Our monthly meetings have officially been moved to the Jeffersonville Golf Club because its a bigger and better location. We are rapidly growing thanks to our dedicated members and friends. Our next meeting is on Tuesday, July 30th and after that our regular meetings will now fall on the 3rd Tuesdays of each month at 7PM. We hope you can make it!
Meeting Topic: The Rise of the Police-State
America is rapidly devolving into the oppressive police-state that our Founding Fathers warned us about. In recent years, politicians have passed laws that destroy and erode our constitutional rights like the N.D.A.A. and The Patriot Act. Recently, Homeland Security, federal government agencies, and local police departments have widely adopted military tactics, military equipment (armored personnel carriers, flash-bang grenades) - and, sometimes, the mindset of military conquerors rather than domestic peacekeepers, and they say its all in the name of "safety" to promote a "global society".
The military industrial complex is transforming our once free country into a giant prison camp. A broke and indoctrinated society constructed in the name of fighting terrorism, was actually built to enslave the American people by making them give up their liberties in the name of security, (Benjamin Franklin warned us about that). Body scanners, sound cannons, citizen spies, staged terror, and cameras on every street corner -- it's only the beginning of the U.N. & globalist's hellish plan.
THE AGENDA:
- Steve Piotrowski and Jackie Piotrowski will give an eye-opening presentation on the police-state, and the erosion of liberties that our government has taken away from us in the name of "safety". We will also speak about what you can do, and current PA. legislation that we can support to help us all fight Big Government and protect citizens of their Constitutional and god-given rights.
- Darren Wolfe, CFL guest speaker of the year, and (author of The International Libertarian) will also give a Philosophy presentation on the police-state and why the founding fathers warned us against this, and what we can do.
- We are also hoping to get Senator Folmer to come speak. He introduced a bill that will end the N.D.A.A. in PA and make it a crime for any government official to enforce it. Hopefully we can get him to attend and talk about it, or even others that helped draft the bill.
- We will also have a round table of open discussion... Your voice matters!

COMMON CORE:
WHAT'S IN STORE FOR OUR CHILDREN?
We'd like to extend a special invitation for you to attend an open meeting covering Common Core
hosted by the Coaltion for Advancing Freedom:
Tuesday, August 13, 2013
The Red Clay Room, 423 Dalmatian Street, Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, 19348, USA
Doors open at 6:00pm. Program begins promptly at 6:45pm.
We encourage you to invite your friends and neighbors, teachers and PTO members, for this important program featuring two engaging subject-matter experts, Whitney Neal and Dr. Peg Luksik, followed by a Question & Answer Session.
Part 1- A Rigorous Assessment
Speaker: Dr. Peg Luksik Former candidate for PA Governor and US Senate
* * * * *
The first part of the evening will be a presentation by nationally-known education expert Dr. Peg Luksik, who will speak about the Common Core education standards and how they will affect you and your family. She'll cover what it is, how it came to be, why you may never have even heard of it, and why it is not a good idea for the children of Pennsylvania.
Part 2 - Making Education 'Common'
Speaker: Whitney Neal Director of Grassroots - FreedomWorks
* * * * *
In the second part of the program, grassroots activist and former 8th Grade U.S. History teacher Whitney Neal, will cover how the Common Core's 'homogenized' approach treats every child exactly the same, regardless of their individual needs, strengths, or career goals, and how this untested program can only result in a consistent standard of mediocrity.
Part 3 - Question & Answers
What We Can Do: As Parents, Teachers, School Board Members and Administrators
* * * * *
The third part of the evening will be a Question & Answer Session focused on what we can do. Especially because, to date, we parents, teachers, PTOs and PTAs, school boards, administrators, and concerned citizens have had no say in the matter.
The Federal Government effectively 'bribed' the State apparatus to adopt the Common Core using federal stimulus money, and they did so 'behind the scenes' without any significant public debate. There hasn't been any means testing to ensure that the standards are successful in the classroom. Finally, only 1 out of 60 content experts who reviewed the Common Core were teachers, and no proof was provided that their feedback was received, or their changes reflected in the final standards.
Twitter handle for use before, during, and after the August 13 program: @CAF4PA Please RSVP HERE ASAP so that we have a good attendance estimate. Feel free to invite those that you know need to hear more about Common Core. And please note that Moms are the constituency aligning most against it.
Working to secure the blessings of Liberty.

US House passes bill to protect local educational control
WASHINGTON, D.C - On Friday, July 19th, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 5, the Student Success Act. This legislation will reduce federal interference in education, restore control to local school districts and states, empower parents and support effective teachers.
As passed by the House, the Student Success Act will: · Eliminate the flawed Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) system and replace it with state-determined accountability systems, thereby returning authority for measuring student performance to states and school districts. · Eliminate federally mandated actions and interventions currently required of poor performing schools, giving states and districts maximum flexibility to develop appropriate school improvement strategies and rewards for their schools. · Allow Title I dollars to follow disadvantaged students, at the option of individual states. This landmark 'portability' option promotes parental choice and allows all Title I schools to receive funds to promote the academic achievement of students in need. · Repeal federal bureaucrat designed teacher requirements and grant states the flexibility to develop their own teacher evaluation systems to better gauge an educator's effectiveness, if they so choose. · Maintain the requirement that states and school districts issue and distribute annual report cards, including disaggregated data on student achievement and high school graduation rates, while also streamlining data reporting to ensure meaningful information is easily available to parents and communities. · Support opportunities for parents to enroll their children in local magnet schools and charter schools, and enhance statewide parental engagement. · Eliminate more than 70 existing elementary and secondary education programs to promote a more appropriate federal role in education through the block grant program. · Consolidate a myriad of existing K-12 education programs into a new Local Academic Flexible Grant, which provides funding to states and school districts to support local priorities that improve student achievement.
Read more here and here.
The bill passed on a party line vote. The Pennsylvania delegation was split with all Democrats voting to oppose and all Republicans voting in support. It faces an uncertain future as it moves to the Democrat controlled Senate.
Pennsylvanians Against Common Core will be poised to mobilize our grass roots network at the appropriate time as it moves for consideration in the Senate.

Top teacher ignores latest reform directives Rafe Esquith, the most imaginative and productive classroom teacher I know, freely admits he overdoes it. He works long hours, including Saturdays. He leads his fifth graders in mounting several performances of a Shakespeare play each year. He helps former students prepare for college. This summer he gave speeches in China, took former students to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, drove their luggage 700 miles, showed students several John Steinbeck haunts, did an 11 day tour for this new book and took students on a Mississippi steamboat ride. As hyper as he is, after 29 years teaching mostly low-income Hispanic and Korean kids in a small, rundown classroom in Los Angeles he knows what drains teacher energy and ambition. In his new book, "Real Talk for Real Teachers," he describes this in ways I think nearly every teacher in the country would endorse: The system, "rather than encourage and support you, . . . actively works to discourage you," he writes. Worried about privacy? How about Common Core? Increasingly worried about surveillance, concerned Americans may not have considered this issue - gathering data about children in schools and the possibility that it can become widely accessible. How? Dr. Paul Kengor explains in this op-ed about the controversial Common Core standards. Read more.
Common Core won't make kids smarter The new education standards called Common Core won't make U.S. kids any smarter. It would be better if states used their own revised and improved version of standards already successfully piloted in 12 states. The overall Common Core strategy is to raise the scores of average students by a point or two but do nothing to motivate or help the smarter kids or the dumber kids. Read more.

VALLEY FORGE PATRIOTS AUGUST 9TH MEETING
PHOENIXVILLE SENIOR CENTER
7:00 PM TO 9:00 PM
THIS WILL BE A WORKING MEETING. BE PREPARED TO HAVE A LITTLE WRITER'S CRAMP.
Common Core is a huge issue for our schools and students as well as the taxpayers. The cost of implementing Common Core Standards (CCS) in PA will be $650 million or more over seven years at a time when we are facing a severe pension crisis. The PA legislature was bypassed when PA signed on to the CCS. There is no evidence that this costly and transformational initiative will result in better learning outcomes. In addition, we believe that we will lose local control over our school boards and over the education of our students.
For our August meeting we will have a Common Core post card writing blitz and we urge you all to join in the effort. VFP will supply pre-stamped post cards, as well as bullet points to write and addresses of legislators. This is a nationwide effort that we are coordinating with Pennsylvanians Against Common Core.
It is most important that we contact and continue to contact legislators since this Common Core initiative is already being implemented. Of course, the leftist teachers unions will be spaming mail, probably on the clock as usual. If you have kids, grandkids, neices and nephews you need to care about this. Hope to see you there with your writing utensils.

Stay in the Fight!
Gun Control advocates Still on the March!
Gun Control groups like Mayor Bloombergs CeasefirePA are still pushing hard to further "question" our right to Keep and Bear Arms! Just this week CeasefirePA testified at the PA Judiciary Committee hearing on HB1010 to expand background checks (next step towards registration). And the Bloomberg anti-gun bus tour continues across the USA with a likely stop in PA in the next 60 days. The recent Zimmerman trial verdict has given these anti-liberty groups a renewed energy to pass more incremental gun control laws. This battle for our rights needs YOU to stay involved. CGOPA is an all-volunteer grassroots group of citizens, we are your friends and neighbors. There is a core group of 13 and we are always looking for more help! We need people to help coordinate legislative action and develop a formal membership framework. Please email concernedgunowners@gmail.com to get involved! Even if you can't help directly, please continue to support our cause by showing up to one of our upcoming events.

Guy Rodgers, Executive Director for ACT! for America, to speak in Elmer, NJ It is my privilege to invite you to a special event featuring Guy Rodgers, Executive Director of ACT! for America. This event is free and open to the public and will be held at the following location:
|
Elmer Grange Hall 535 Daretown Road Elmer, NJ 08318 Tuesday, September 3rd at 7 pm
|
Guy has been my right hand since I founded ACT! for America in 2007. He is a compelling, dynamic public speaker who combines a deep knowledge of the threat of radical Islam with nearly three decades of strategic and communications experience in the political world. The result is extraordinary-and something you don't want to miss. The Boston Marathon bombing was a painful reminder that the threat of jihad is always lurking just beneath the surface. Unfortunately, we can't just wish it away or turn a blind eye to it. Whether that threat is the violent kind of jihad we saw in Boston or on 9/11, or the "stealth" kinds of jihads that is the primary weapon of the Muslim Brotherhood, we must be informed and have the tools with which to fight it effectively. Here are just some of the aspects of this threat Guy will discuss:
- The worldwide effort to muzzle free speech-and how our own government is assisting this effort.
- Homegrown jihad.
- Terrorists infiltrating our borders.
- The Muslim Brotherhood and creeping sharia law in America.
- Pro-Islamic bias and indoctrination in our public school textbooks.
| But perhaps even more importantly, you will learn how ACT! for America is successfully rolling back the tide of radical Islam...how we are winning legislative victories...how we don't have to live in fear or resign ourselves to the inevitability of the threats arrayed against us...and how we will prevail. I encourage you to forward this email to everyone you know. I know you will leave this event not only educated, but inspired. So please come and invite your friends to this ACT! for America event in Elmer, NJ, on Tuesday, September 3rd. You'll be glad you did. Yours for a Safe and Free America, Brigitte Gabriel

In the wake of the Supreme Court's marriage decisions, the movement to uphold America's core principles heads to the states, where challenges to state laws and local communities' religious liberties will surely open up in coming months.
How can citizens strategize and get the tools to effectively make the case for life, marriage, and religious liberty? Are conservative groups working together? Get the answers at Values Voter Summit 2013 >>
On October 11-13, Values Voter Summit 2013 will bring together thousands of Americans to tackle issues impacting our freedoms, families, national security, and values. This year's theme, Standing for Faith, Family and Opportunity for All, celebrates how following America's founding principles provides all Americans more freedom and better lives.
Leading voices in public policy and culture will address the summit, notably Senator Ted Cruz, former Governor Mike Huckabee, Rep. Steve King, columnistStar Parker, Senator Rand Paul, Live Action president Lila Rose, former Senator Rick Santorum, Todd Starnes of Fox News, and many more. See the latest confirmed speakers and register now >>
Heritage president Jim DeMint will deliver a keynote address to the leaders gathered, expected to be broadcast live on C-SPAN. His talk will touch on the importance of marriage and upward mobility, themes further developed in breakout sessions featuring Heritage experts.
In "Responding to the Tough Questions on Marriage, Religious Liberty, and More," Heritage's Jennifer Marshall, along with Adèle Keim of the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty, will tackle tough questions conservatives often hear, such as "Isn't it pro-family to expand who can get married?" and "Do conservatives care about the poor?"
Heritage will also host "How America Provides Opportunity for All: Stories and Solutions" to explore the truth of upward mobility in America. Matthew Spalding, author of We Still Hold These Truths, and Bishop Shirley Holloway, founder ofHouse of Help/City of Hope, will reveal how government redistribution runs counter to our Founders' wisdom and what the real solutions are to breaking the cycle of poverty. Get more details on breakout sessions >>
Students are also a vital part of this year's event. They will have exclusive opportunities to interact with speakers, including a Friday night mixer. In a casual interactive setting, Ryan Anderson of Heritage-famed for his CNN face-off with Piers Morgan-and the Family Research Council's Peter Sprigg will help young adults develop intellectually honest answers to what friends are asking on sexuality, relationships, and why marriage matters.
Between sessions, all attendees can receive complimentary materials and speak directly with dozens of conservative groups, including Christians United for Israel, Liberty Counsel, Students for Life, Leadership Institute, and Let Freedom Ring. Plus there's much more, from networking to new initiatives by the leaders you trust.

From a trusted friend:
As some of you may know, I am associated with Coventry Christian Schools as a parent of a graduate (2010) and as member of the Board of Trustees. Last October we spent a wonderful evening honoring Mark Niehls at our revitalized Founder's Dinner and celebrated our shared heritage in the remarkable community that is Coventry Christian Schools. Our vision for future Founder's Dinners is to inspire and inform not only our alumni and current CCS families but to inspire and inform the Tri-County Area and even our region by hosting speakers and artists who can uniquely assist us in celebrating the heritage, core values, and mission of CCS while also lifting our vision for an even greater future built upon the foundation of our past. The caliber of our speakers and guest artists should provide us with wonderful opportunities to share our CCS story with new partners in Christian education. Proceeds from the dinner will be applied to our annual Coventry Kids Fund for CCS scholarships.
This year we are proud to announce that our distinguished guest and speaker is Dr. Benjamin Carson, and our dinner's theme is "Faith of Our Fathers: The Role of Faith in American Schools." Please join us as we welcome Dr. Carson to the Tri-County Area and celebrate the great things God is doing at CCS!
Dr. Carson is a highly regarded neurosurgeon and motivational speaker who has addressed various audiences across the country. He is one of the most honored and recognized physicians in the world and holds more than 60 honorary doctorate degrees along with hundreds of awards and citations. He is a recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honor in the United States. He is the author of five books and is the founder of the Carson Scholars Fund. The 2009 award-winning movie entitled Gifted Hands: The Ben Carson Story, starring Cuba Gooding, Jr. as Carson, premiered on TNT and is based on his memoir. Dr. Carson is an authentic disciple of Christ, has been married to his wife Candy for more than 37 years, and is the father of three sons.
The 2013 Founder's Dinner, which will once again be a part of our Homecoming festivities, will be held at the historic Sunnybrook Ballroom in Pottstown on Sunday, October 13th, 2013. Doors will open at 4:30pm, followed by dinner at 5:15. Dress will be business/professional. Tickets will be priced at $100 until May 15th, then will be $125, so reserve your tickets for the reduced price.
Due to Dr. Carson's international reputation and recent prominence in the media, including his recent speech at the 2013 National Prayer Breakfast, we fully anticipate that this event will sell out quickly once advertised to the public. Tickets go on sale to the public April 15. If you are interested in attending, tickets can be purchased online. I will send the link out to those who wish to go on April 15
th
. While online reservations are preferred because they facilitate efficient event planning, you may also complete a paper order form, which I can forward to you as well.
All of us at Coventry Christian Schools, look forward to sharing this very special evening with you and acquainting you with the school and its mission!
Blessings,
Christine Gordon

Dear FrontPage Reader, Each year, we invite the nation's leading conservative lawmakers, thinkers, and writers to join us in Palm Beach, Florida, for the David Horowitz Restoration Weekend. Held at The Breakers-one of the most beautiful resorts on the east coast-this retreat offers an unparalleled opportunity to relax and renew our dedication to our conservative values and preserving liberty. This year's Restoration Weekend, which will be held November 14-17, promises to be the greatest yet. Dr. Ben Carson, Monica Crowley, Richard Grenell, David Horowitz, and Steve Moore are already confirmed to speak and we expect to add many more great conservatives to this list as we get closer. I won't lie-attending the weekend is not cheap. And I know this has deterred many people throughout the years. That's why the Freedom Center will be covering all the costs for a lucky supporter and their guest to attend-roundtrip airfare, three nights at The Breakers, and admission to all of the retreat's programs, meals, and activities. Donate $5 today to be entered to win an all expenses paid trip to Palm Beach for the David Horowitz Restoration Weekend. This special offer won't last long. We'll be selecting the winners on August 31-so make sure to enter today. Thanks, Michael Finch COO, David Horowitz Freedom Center

WHAT IS COMMON CORE?Common Core, or the Common Core State Standards Initative (CCSSI), as it is known at the State and Federal level, is a set of national education standards that will fulfill the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act, through a waiver system. (The NCLB Act was put into place by Congress in 2001 and signed into law by President George W. Bush). Many states were failing to meet the NCLB Act requirements and, therefore, wanted something to replace NCLB.Common Core is part of the UN's plan for complete federal control over our education systems and the "Dumbing-down" of America. Common Core State Standards Initiative (CCSSI) are not state standards in the first place, and are nothing more then further federalization of our state education systems. COMMON CORE IS A TROJAN HORSE AND TIED TO THE UNITED NATIONS (UN)If you cannot see that Common Core is tied to the United Nations you have not done your homework! The major funder of the Common Core Movement is the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation which has pledged $60 million dollars to this effort. Bill and Melinda Gates are tied to UN through-and-through and have spent money in America and overseas for UN programs in Africa and all over the world for decades. From the Conservative Teachers of American organization, they wrote an article entitled: "Common Core Standards and the Federalization of Education." In this article we read: "Many are concerned that the Common Core Standards, once successfully implemented, will provide unfettered access of our educational system by the United Nations. Some textbooks and curricula for our public schools have already been written by the [United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization] UNESCO and the International Baccalaureate program, that is currently in many school districts, across the United States. Grabbing additional access is a natural next step. Once they write the curricula, they must have authority to develop all testing tools."
The UN involvement in the American educational system has already been facilitated by treaties signed by American presidents from both parties. Those documents include but are not limited to: Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Treaty on the Rights of the Child, Civic Education: Classroom Connections, and Agenda 21. The US Partnership for Education for Sustainable Development (since 2003), is the nexus of the UNA-USA and Global Leadership Coalition at the Department of Education, which altogether leverages the UN Decade on Education for Sustainable Development 2005-2014. UNESCO, the lead agency of the Decade, defines Education for Sustainable Development as "education for everyone everywhere" for the "lifelong learning" of "present and future generations". The UNA-USA sponsors Model UN across America and tailors its Global Classrooms curricula to whichever setting the kids happen to be participating. Children are unknowingly trained to respond with prescribed consensus to the situations, simulations and stimulation's of the particular activity (Delphi Technique). Global Kids is the CFR arm of Connect All Schools Consortium, a new Department of Education network, led by Independent Sector and The White House via United Planet Partners. Global Kids is preparing children for Agenda 21. The White House, NSA and CIA now have website divisions aimed at kids. The Public Education Network is a national association funded by Independent Sector donors: plus Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, the Carnegie Corporation of New York and the Department of Education "Funders" of the Rockefeller Foundation-backed International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLEI), "Members" of the the Sustainability Consortium, backed by the EPA and BSR (Rockefeller Foundation, Rockefeller Brothers Fund, State Department) and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation-backed International City/County Management Association (ICMA): Center for Sustainable Communities (an ICLEI "Partner") are "partnered" with local schools and governments. From the Partnership for 21st Century Skills aligning the Common Core State Standards with "professional development" content for teachers and principals and Lego Robotics curricula for students (Carnegie Mellon/Lego Education); to software curricula through websites like: cyberschoolbus.un.org, icivics.org, atomiclearning.com, renlearn.org, brainpop.com and ttl4.sunburst.com; to the weekly deliveries of Time for Kids magazine and textbook curricula into classrooms; kids are programmed with UN-defined values. State Governors administer Federal funds to "Community-Oriented Policing" systems like Crime Stoppers (The UN, FBI and other law enforcement and corporate partners administer Crime Stoppers International), the local student-equivalent of the Department of Homeland Security's' "See Something, Say Something" campaign; whereby children see hand-drawn posters of child characters on school walls displaying "Eyes Looking", "Ears Listening", "Mouth Reporting" with a hotline to call. Presidents Bush and Obama have personally followed the George H. W. Bush/Clinton trail of the Agenda 21/ Sustainable America megabanks-maze in "bipartisan" fashion. UNESCO PLEDGES SUPPORT OF COMMON COREFrom UNESCO's document "The Vision of Education Reform in the United States" it states: "My department has been pleased to partner with the US Agency for International Development to help ensure that our best domestic practices are shared world-wide. The United States provides over a billion dollars annually to partner countries working on educational reform. Our goal for the coming year will be to work closely with global partners, including UNESCO, to promote qualitative improvements and system strengthening....Ultimately, education is the great equalizer. It is the one force that can consistently overcome differences in background, culture, and privilege." THE UN'S AGENDA 21- COMMON CORE IMPLEMENTER!In the United Nations Agenda 21 (Guide for the 21st Century), Chapters #25 and #36 specifically talk about education of our children: Principle #25- "Children and Youth in Sustainable Development." In the "Activites 25.9.d" it states: "Ensure access for all youth to all types of education, wherever appropriate, providing alternative learning structures, ensure that education reflects the economic and social needs of youth and incorporates the concepts of environmental training, implementing innovative methods aimed at increasing practical skills, such as environmental scouting." Principle #36- "Promoting Education, Public Awareness and Training." In the Activities Section of this document in "36.5.g" we read: "Within two years the United Nations system should undertake a comprehensive review of its educational programmes, encompassing training and public awareness, to reassess priorites and reallocae resources. The UNESCO/UNEP International Environmental Education Programme should, in cooperation with the appropriate bodies of the United Nations system, Governments, non-governmental organizations and others, establish a porgramme within two years to integrate the decisions of the Conference into the existing United Nations framework adapted to the need of the educators at different levels and circumstances. Regional organizations and national authorities should be encouraged to elaborate similar parallel programmes and opportunies by conducting an analysis of how to mobilize different sectors of the population in order to assess and address their environmental and development education needs." In the Activities Section of this document in "36.5 h" we read: "There is a need to strengthen, within five years, information exchange by enhancing technologies and capacities necessary to promote environment and development education and public awareness. Countries should cooperate with each other and with the various social sectors and population groups to prepare educational tools that include regional environment and development issues and initiatives, using learning materials and resources suited to their own requirements." Sounds just like PARCC and SLDS. ASU's Institute for Global Sustainability and their "Sustainable Cities Network" is doing a fine job "brain-washing" our students in our high schools on sustainability, global warming (aka climate change), etc. Go here to meet the ASU sustainability schools! COMMON CORE SCIENCE STANDARDS TEACH GLOBAL WARMING!The new Common Core Science Standards that are up for review teach Global Warming (aka Climate Change)! Reality Check.....COMMON CORE EDUCATION = COMMUNISM IN AMERICA!
Common Core Education is the INDOCTRINATION of our CHILDREN. DO NOT LISTEN TO THE GOP ESTABLISHMENT RHETORIC FROM MIKE HUCKABEE!!!
Reality Check- just in case you ever had a doubt......MIke Huckabee is a typical GOP Establishment person.
Mike Huckabee is now championing Common Core Education on Fox News for the GOP! How disgusting is that?!?!? "Mike Huckabee Urges Conservatives to Back Common Core Standards"
This is another reason why Constitutional Conservatives MUST leave the GOP and beware of what you hear on Fox News. Fox News continues to move to the left - to the liberal progressive side of issues. That is the very very sad but true fact. Mr. GOP Huckabee....."It's disturbing to me there have been criticisms of these standards directed by other conservatives including the RNC," Huckabee wrote. "The truth of the matter is, these criticisms are short-sighted." see attached article from Sunshine News. Send a message to Mr. GOP Huckabee at http://www.mikehuckabee.com/masterfeedback and send a loud message to the every more liberal progressive Fox News! Americans that believe in our Constitution must not be silent about this! Do NOT let Fox News get away with promoting the very liberal progressive Common Core Education that promotes the ideology that American Children are Common/Community Property! Do NOT let Fox News get away with promoting the loss of state's rights and the federal government taking over Education. WE NEED TO ABOLISH THE FEDERAL DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION - NOT EMPOWER IT! If you support SOCIALISM AND COMMUNISM FOR THE U.S.A. then COMMON CORE EDUCATION IS FOR YOU. If you believe in the U.S.A. CONSTITUTION....then YOU WILL LOUDLY AND OPENLY REJECT AND OPPOSE COMMON CORE EDUCATION AND ANYONE THAT PROMOTES IT!! Common Core Education is the indoctrination of American Children. This is NOT acceptable if you still believe in FREEDOM!! Sally Baptiste www.blogtalkradio.com/americanstatesman
The proponents of Common Core say that the standards ARE state led because they were developed by The National Governors' Association.
Well, perhaps this is true in a way that is very disturbing! Listen to this speech at the 1989 NGA conference on education (at 12:48).
 | The Development of Common Core, Explained by Michael Chapman |
The video says this is a clip from the 1989 National Governors'Assoc conference on Education: Sr. Director of Mid-Continental Regional Education Laboratory, Dr. Shirley McCune She says about education: #1) Total transformation of our society #2) Teaching of facts and information (knowledge) is no longer the primary purpose of education #3) Close connection between economic (sustainable) development and human capitol (human resource labor for a planned economy) A group that allowed this kind of rhetoric to be said at their meeting? I don't think I want them developingeducational standards! Please read to the bottom for transcripts from the 1987 NGA meetings chaired by Bill Clinton. These transcripts are eye-opening. They are clearly more concerned with workers for the manufacturing. They seem to have concerns that we have students who can't read well enough (non-English speaking especially) to function in the manufacturing plants, and then on the other end of the spectrum... too many with higher ed degrees who don't WANT to work in the manufacturing. So... what to do about all this? Hummm.... standards! Make sure they read well enough to function as the industrial workers, but not so well that they don't want to!!! This is the John D. Rockefeller goal of the early 20th century when he started pushing for compulsory government schooling and funding the building of government schools.
NOW.... review the transcripts below of the conferences chaired by Bill Clinton: National Governor's Association website (find all annual meetings here with transcriptsm- ) 1986-87 NGA Chair Gov. Bill Clinton's Initiative Making America Work: Productive People, Productive Policies March 25, 1986 1987 Winter Meeting with Bill Clinton as chair, you will find on page 12 that the governors unanimously adopted a policy to adopt an INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION POLICY. http://www.nga.org/files/live/sites/NGA/files/pdf/1987NGAWinterMeeting.pdf 1987 Annual meeting. See page 34of this document to see how those governors seem to be concerned that we aren't training our students for the "workforce." They are concerned that the professors of higher ed are telling students to strive for more than the job of working in the manufacturing plants. On page 40 they start talking about standards needed in education. " See page 42 with this statement by Governor Sinner (great name!) to Lee Iacoccoa: "But you also made a point about the terrific cost to industry of the disparity between states in these regulations and I wondered, with all the fuss and the furor that we make over states' rights...." http://www.nga.org/files/live/sites/NGA/files/pdf/1987NGAAnnualMeeting.pdf June 11, 2013: Sen. Tom Harkin (D-IA) leads the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee in a markup of the Strengthening America's Schools Act of 2013, an education initiative to replace No Child Left Behind. http://www.c-spanvideo.org/event/220036 At the June 10 Common Core forum in Fayette County, Superintendent Barge stated over and over again that if Georgia wants to change these standards at any time, we have the ability to do so. The testimony below contradicts this belief by Superintendent Barge and confirms that states who adopted the Common Core standards DO NOT have the ability to change the standards in any way on their own. 2:23:00 - Rep. Tim Scott discusses his amendment to Harkin's bill. Instead of states being forced to adopt blanket standards like Common Core as a prerequisite for funding, let's put decision-making back in the hands of parents and teachers in our communities." 2:31:00 - It is admitted that states who want to change the CC standards, the Secretary of Education would have to approve it. States DO NOT have the ultimate decision making abilities! 2:39:00 - Alexander reads page 89 of the bill stating that any changes to standards MUST go through the Secretary of Education for approval. As are most of the amendments offered by Republicans to this education bill, the Scott Amendment is defeated 12-10. DATA COLLECTING: Senator Burr at the 1:00:00 mark reveals information about ADDITIONAL data points that this legislation will add to the data mining. He says that his count is now 500 data points. TEACHER EVALUATIONS: Senator Alexander at 2:00:00 mark discusses his amendment to end federally mandated school and teacher evaluations. He says states had a "gun to their head" to adopt the teacher evaluations because they were desperate for NCLB waivers. He makes the charge that the Harkin bill creates a "NATIONAL SCHOOL BOARD." The Gates Foundation involvement is mentioned frequently. Harkin says over and over "this is voluntary." If states don't want to implement the programs in the bill we just don't accept the money!" More strong evidence that our states need to "just say no" to all federal education dollars. As is pointed out in this debate: Any private business that entered into a partnership where the partner who contributed 10% funding got 80-90% of the control (as is the case with education funding under NCLB and Common Core) the partnership is DOOMED TO FAIL! Tom DeWeese:
The Growing Threat of Smart Meters
Sustainable Development is code for a policy designed to transform human society, essentially eliminating individual life decisions and replacing them with top - down, one-size-fits-all government control. In steady fashion, the agenda for this new policy, designed at the international level, is put into place piece by piece with a new government council here, and new regulation there, each designed to appear as a "local" development program. Like the proverbial frog in the slowly boiling pot, many Americans fail to notice the rise in government heat. The main course of action to impose the new agenda is through the pretense of environmental protection; "Sorry about your rights, but if we don't save the planet, then we will all perish!" And so with the devastation of a thousand pin pricks, America and its form or government is being changed through the creation of non-elected boards, councils and regional governments, designed to enforce the new regulations and "assure that we protect the environment."
The pin pricks come disguised as such issues as controls on community development; controls on use of private property; controls on use of open space; creation of development areas, many times under the excuse of historic preservation; communities designed on the blue print of pack and stack housing; making it harder to drive as roads are narrowed, even forcing cars to share the road with bicycles; the enforcement of expensive mass transit boondoggle projects; and the never ending spending spree on inefficient, unworkable alternative energy, such as wind and solar power.
In fact, control of energy and water are the two most effective tools in the enforcement of the Sustainable Development agenda. Without energy and water, human society stops. Using strict controls on how, or even if, energy and water can be used provides government with the power to dictate every aspect of society.

ImmigrationCounters.com provides the key numbers and events related to illegal immigration in the United States. Using the latest government and private sources, research and analysis trending data is factored at their individual rates of increase. For information about the research behind the individual counters clickhere Data Sources. ImmigrationCounters.com supports legal immigration and respect for all humanity yet highlights the significant impact of illegal immigration in America.
ImmigrationCounters.com informs the public of the realities of illegal immigration while challenging the myths and misinformation surrounding it. After decades of passively watching this problem grow, most Americans are now more aware of the severity of this issue. Our government has demonstrated a complete lack of urgency to control illegal immigration both on the borders and within the interior. Because of this large failure that which traditionally had been the American way of welcoming immigration is now dividing the country because of one word, illegal. Opposing illegal immigration and wanting the laws enforced is not un-American. It is time to set the record straight on what is un-American, illegal is un-American.
The issue of illegal immigration doesn't need more laws, studies or debates, it needs leadership and enforcement. America doesn't need immigration reform, it needs leadership reform. Because our government has failed to enforce the existing immigration laws, why should anyone be confident they will do so with expanded immigration reform? Because of these failures, legislators have been addressing the problems at their local levels with bills to manage it incrementally, piece-by-piece, rather than trying to fix the national problem at once--an impossible task. What most Americans expect is to have our borders secure, enforcement of the existing laws within the interior, meaningful punishment of employers who hire illegally and removal of incentives such as birthright citizenships and public school enrollments without status verifications. We must also address the fact that we're soft on criminals caught in crimes and aren't deported. No other country would allow this to continue. 40% of them entered the country legally and overstayed their visas. Yet there's still no reliable method to verify if Visa overstays have left the country. Another incentive that must be addressed is the birthright citizenship program that has resulted in millions of children and parents receiving instant rights and benefits. Some have called them "GPS babies" and this certainly cannot be what the authors of the 14th Amendment intended to occur. Public housing and other benefits are provided for the illegal parents through their 'anchor children' while citizens are turned away because of limited resources. This antiquated program must end. Government agencies and officials at all levels must address the costs associated with this kind of abuse. Past mistakes have been made in attempts to fix illegal immigration and our communities can no longer afford these kinds of mistakes.

FRIDAY DIGEST
Phony President Offers Moldy Economic Agenda
July 26, 2013
"Enlightened statesmen will not always be at the helm." --James Madison
On Wednesday, Barack Obama pulled some moldy pizza out of the fridge, popped it in the microwave and offered it as fresh gourmet fare. That was the essence of his over-hypedeconomic speech at Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois. But Obama's 83rd "pivot" toward jobs was virtually the same speech he gave in the same location eight years earlier, and dozens of times since. He could've saved taxpayers a bundle on Air Force One by just patching through a video replay.
A new report by Daniel Alpert at the Century Foundation lays out the sorry state of the Obama economy. (The Century Foundation is a self-described "progressive non-partisan think tank," not a bunch of "right-wing extremists.") Alpert notes a few specifics -- we'll highlight two. First, in a normal recovery, the number of involuntary part-time workersdecreases as they find full-time work, but in the Obama "recovery" the opposite is true. Most of the jobs created are part-time, while full-time workers have seen their hours reduced due to ObamaCare regulations.
Second, and more important, Alpert writes, "Nearly 100 percent of the decline in the U-3 unemployment rate has been the result of there being fewer workers in the labor force as a percentage of the employable population." In other words, attrition, not jobs, accounts for the lower headline unemployment rate. Nearly 90 million Americans are not working, up by 9.5 million since Obama took office. Conversely, 15 million more Americans are on food stamps today than in January 2009, bringing the total to nearly 50 million.
So what was Obama saying again?
In the run-up to the speech, he arrogantly opined, "I've given some pretty good speeches before, and then things still get stuck here in Washington." During his first two years, Obama enjoyed overwhelming Democrat majorities in both houses of Congress, but instead of easing the government burden to allow a healthy recovery, Democrats rammed through a takeover of one-sixth of the economy (ObamaCare) and onerous regulations of another chuck (Dodd-Frank financial "reform"). These burdensome laws crush private sector efforts to create jobs. So "pretty good speeches" aside, Obama's actions during ideological hegemony in Washington belie his complaint.
"Washington hasn't just ignored this problem," he lectured. "Too often, Washington has made things worse." More than anyone else, Barack Obama is Washington. And he has definitely made things worse.
Most hypocritically, he blamed "an endless parade of distractions, political posturing and phony scandals" for causing Washington to take "its eye off the ball." His own actions, though, have been a "parade of distractions" -- from standing on the caskets of children killed by an evil psychopath in order to push for federal gun control, to exploiting a neighborhood watch incident for race bait, to making sequestration as painful as possible so as to thwart any meaningful spending cuts. As for those "phony scandals," there's nothing phony about running illegal guns to Mexico, leaving four Americans to die in Benghazi and arguably stealing the 2012 election through IRS persecution of political opponents.
Obama has only himself to blame for the worst "recovery" since FDR's Great Depression. Five years after the recession began, instead of the normal 3-4 percent growth in an expansion, we've seen the stagnation of 0.4 percent growth in the fourth quarter last year and 1.8 percent in the first of this year. That's not in spite of but thanks to years of massive government initiatives and wealth redistribution schemes contrived by Obama and his NeoCom cadres.

Backlash Against Common Core
Common Core (CC) is the issue that is bringing out hundreds of citizens who never before attended political meetings. Common Core is the attempt of Barack Obama's Department of Education to force all states and schools to adopt national education standards for each grade level that will dictate what all kids learn and don't learn.
Common Core means federal control of school curriculum, i.e., control by Obama Administration leftwing bureaucrats. They plan on having the power to dictate and overrule all decisions by state and local school boards, state legislatures, parents, and even Congress.

It's not only public schools that must obey the fed's dictates. Common Core will control the curriculum of charter schools, private schools, religious schools, Catholic schools, and homeschooling. The control mechanism is the tests (called assessments). Kids must pass the tests in order to get a high school diploma or admittance to college. If they haven't studied a curriculum based on Common Core standards, they won't score well on the tests.
Common Core cannot be described as voluntary. Since CC is so costly to the states (estimated $15 billion for retraining teachers and purchase of computers for all kids to take the tests), CC is foisted on the locals by a combination of bribes, federal handouts, and as the price for getting a waiver to exempt a state from other obnoxious mandates such as No Child Left Behind.
Don't be under any illusion that Common Core will make kids smarter. The Common Core academic level is lower than what many states use now, and the math standards are so inferior that the only real mathematician on the validation committee refused to sign off on the math standards. He said the CC standards are two years behind international expectations by the 8th grade, and fall further behind in grades 8 to 12. The CC math standards downgrade the years when algebra and geometry are to be taught.
CC advocates claim that the new standards will make students college ready. That depends on how you define college; students will be ready only to enter a two-year nonselective community college.

RedState Morning Briefing
For July 29, 2013
1. Shut Down ObamaCare, Not Government
I didn't come to Washington to shut down the federal government; I came to help bring it back to its proper role. This role should create an environment where America is the easiest and best place in the world to create better paying jobs by starting a business or growing an existing one. One way to do that is by ending failed programs like ObamaCare that hurt our people, waste their money and scare businesses away from opening or growing. The looming September debate on a short-term spending plan is the last best chance to do that. That's why we must stand united to defund ObamaCare as a condition for supporting a short-term spending plan.
We know President Obama will resist. He will insist on shutting down government unless ObamaCare is fully funded. But we simply cannot continue to pour money into this rapidly imploding program. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
2. The Sad Joke From John Cornyn's Office
John Cornyn says he yanked his name off Mike Lee's Obamacare defunding letter because Mike Lee's letter only pertains to partially defunding Obamacare and John Cornyn wants to fully defund it.
One might then assume John Cornyn will vote against a continuing resolution unless Obamacare is fully defunded. But no, that's not what he is doing.
John Cornyn has turned into a sad joke and Mike Lee's letter is important because it is highlighting these punchlines of past their prime politicians who preach, but won't practice what they preach.
John Cornyn has no intention of fighting. Neither does Mitch McConnell. Neither does Lamar Alexander. Neither does Richard Burr. Neither do most of the Republicans. They will send you fundraising appeals telling you to stand with the GOP against Obamacare, please send them money.
But when confronted with the challenge of opposing continuing funding of the government if that funding goes to Obamacare, their testicular fortitude runs down their leg and out the door. They rally their usual op-ed voices to call conservative dumb. They preemptively surrender. They behave worse than the French. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
3. Mitch McConnell Thinks Matt Bevin is a More Serious Contender Than He Originally Let On
he Mitch McConnell team originally seemed rather dismissive of Matt Bevin as a primary opponent. Content, publicly, to focus on the Democrat, behind the scenes McConnell and the Kentucky GOP are aggressively pushing local Republicans to unite quickly. They want to shut down Bevin early. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
4. Court to Striking Teamsters: Stop Profanity, Harrassment & Threats Against Funeral Goers
A temporary restraining order was granted last week against striking Chicago-land Teamsters employed as funeral directors and drivers at 16 area funeral homes managed by Houston-based Service Corporation International (SCI).

White House hosts radical cleric We have just one question about the IPT News story below: What good could possibly come from welcoming a radical Muslim cleric to the White House who has exhorted Muslim countries to provide military aid to Palestinian terrorist groups?
Bin Bayyah Statements Underscore Support for Terrorism by John Rossomando IPT News July 12, 2013 http://www.investigativeproject.org/4082/bin-bayyah-statements-underscore-support-for
The Investigative Project on Terrorism has uncovered evidence that radical Muslim cleric Sheik Abdullah Bin Bayyah, who met with top White House officials last month, personally urged Muslim nations to aid the Palestinian terrorist groups in Gaza militarily. "Muslim rulers are required to rescue their fellow Muslims in many ways, through financial, military and diplomatic support. Everything should be done to stop this terrible, ongoing massacre in Gaza," Bin Bayyah wrote in April. The posting was removed following the release of IPT's June 26 report about Bin Bayyah's White House visit. "I also call upon our Palestinian brothers to unite all resistance movements in the same name and under the same banner. And it is the duty of all Arabs to help them in the name of Islam, logic, pan-Arabism and humanity." The comment lines up with the position of the International Union for Muslim Scholars (IUMS), headed by Sheik Yusuf Qaradawi. Bin Bayyah has been its vice president for 9 years. The group notably issued a December 2012 communiqué praising Hamas's "strategic victory ... in the dignified Gaza" and calling for Israel's destruction. Bin Bayyah notably declared that Palestinian terrorists have the right to all "kinds of resistance, including the use of weapons." The sheikh issued a fatwa on January 19, 2012 stating that Muslims could satisfy their zakat obligations by giving their money to "fighters in the cause of Allah" (those undertaking a military jihad) to "buy weapons." "He ... avoids any specifics at all, giving the reader the room to use his opinion to finance causes like Hamas, Hizballah, or other radical Islamists," Zuhdi Jasser, president of the American Islamic Forum for Democracy, said. Islamic charities such as the Holy Land Foundation and others have notably been convicted of laundering zakat donations to fund Hamas or other terror groups. Bin Bayyah also condemned the linking of Islamic charities with terrorism, calling it "sham propaganda." White House officials justified meeting with him on June 13 because he denounced al-Qaida in 2010 and because of work he did with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. After the IPT reported on his visit, a spokesperson told The Daily Caller that the White House invited him to tackle "a wide range of issues including poverty, global health efforts and Bin Bayyah's efforts to counter the al Qaeda narrative." "Bin Bayyah may be anti-Al Qaida because he is against the targeting of what he defines as civilians. He simply detests 'freelance jihadists' or 'jihadi-anarchists' preferring more ordered Islamist statists within his Salafi circles," Jasser said. "These quotes [about Palestinian terrorists] in essence reveal that he may disagree with the means and authority Al-Qaida may use but in fact the ends of a global neo-Caliphate and Islamist hegemony he clearly promotes. "Here, he clearly endorses the adoption of all militant causes initiated by what he deems to be legitimate Islamist grievance movements from across the world." The White House did not respond to repeated IPT requests for comment. Additionally, the administration has not addressed any questions related to Bin Bayyah's support for Hamas. It has also been silent about criticism of its reaching out to the IUMS in the light of the group's calls for Israel's destruction, and its 2004 call for the killing of U.S. troops in Iraq. Qaradawi, the IUMS's founder, is considered so radical he has been barred from entering the United States. Hosting Bin Bayyah in the White House was a mistake, House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Michael McCaul, R-Texas, told the IPT. "The Obama administration sends a strong message whenever they accept or facilitate meetings with foreign leaders or officials," McCaul said in an emailed statement. "The administration's narrative of the terror threat decreasing does not mirror the reality that al Qaeda and Islamist extremism is still a growing threat to the homeland, and the actions of officials in the White House should reflect that reality." Inviting Bin Bayyah to the White House reveals an ideologically-motivated "tone deafness to what constitutes a radical," Jasser said. Although Bin Bayyah has stated his opposition to Al-Qaida's tactics for creating a global Caliphate, his writings show that he supports the idea of Muslims being united under a single flag defended by a single army. "[T]he basic principle is that the [Muslim people] ought to be under one banner and one ruler. This is the basic principle prescribed by Islam. But the status quo shows that the ummah has been disunited for a long time, its enemies have grown significantly, and its magnificence has declined," Bin Bayyah wrote in a January 2012 fatwa on his website. "The ummah should have one army to protect it. It needs no foreign armies or interference in any form." Bin Bayyah suggests that the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) gives hope for pan-Islamic unity and a united federation. He blames a "fierce campaign launched by the enemies of the ummah" through colonialism, efforts to spread democracy and "regaining Jerusalem through crusade" efforts for lack of Muslim unity. The OIC Charter guarantees the Palestinians' right to replace Israel with a state of their own that has Jerusalem as its capital. "Bin Bayyah here obviously reveals that he not only believes in the dominance of the Islamic state but he thus through citizenship links every Muslim's faith practice to the military obligations of jihad which scholars like him determine," Jasser said. "Where does he differ from Sheik Awlaki? It is not clear. We are to assume that 'scholars' like him will not take Muslims across the planet into a collective war without 'just cause' to 'rescue their fellow Muslims,' 'under one banner' and thus 'unite all resistance movements." Connecting Islam with terrorism involves a "deliberate negligence of the objective facts," which stems from "ignorance," according to Bin Bayyah. If freedom and democracy on the Middle East was on the White House's agenda when officials met with the cleric, then the administration should take a closer look at his writings, which show that he considers the Western approach to freedom and democracy un-Islamic. Bin Bayyah's view of democracy and free speech is scarcely any different from that shown by the recently deposed Muslim Brotherhood regime in Egypt that cracked down on dissidents claiming they had insulted Islam. In Bin Bayyah's view, free speech is subject to the limitations imposed by Islamic sharia law - particularly when it comes to speech and "harmful values in the society." And he seemed to criticize the United States in an essay last year when he wrote that "the most boastful countries in terms of democracy are the most aggressive and corrupt countries in the world." Bin Bayyah likely approved of the Brotherhood's March arrest of comedian Bassem Youssef for "insulting Islam." "Basically, it is definitely prohibited to criticize, mock at, or deride of the right religion and whoever does this bears enormous sin," Bin Bayyah told the London-based al-Sharq al-Awsat newspaper in January 2012. Bin Bayyah rationalizes Palestinian terrorism, criticizes democracy, and supports blasphemy laws and other restrictions on free speech and other basic freedoms. But the White House appears unwilling to criticize or isolate those views. Instead, it ignored his call for Muslim rulers to give military assistance to Palestinian terrorist groups and opened the White House doors to Bin Bayyah and defended his invitation because he said bad things about al-Qaida.

The most persistent myth of the Western Dhimmi narrative is that Muslims are a minority and must receive special protection and accommodation. But Muslims are not a minority. There are 1.5 billion Sunni Muslims worldwide, outweighing Catholics as the next largest religious faction at 1.1 billion and Hindus at 1 billion. They are still a minority of the overall population in Western countries, but a demographically trending majority. In the UK more people attend mosques than the Church of England, that makes Muslims the largest functioning religious group there. Mohammed was the most popular baby namelast year, ahead of Jack and Harry. In France, in this generation, more mosques have been built than Catholic churches and in southern France there are already more mosques than churches. Mohammed-Amine is the most popular double name, ahead of Jean-Baptiste, Pierre-Louis, Leo-Paul and Mohammed-Ali. In Belgium, 50 percent of newborns are Muslim and empty Belgian churches are being turned into mosques. The most popular baby name is Mohammed and of the top 7 baby names, 6 were Muslim. A quarter of Amsterdam, Marseilles and Rotterdam and a fifth of Stockholm is already Muslim. The most popular baby name in Amsterdam, Utrecht, Rotterdam and The Hague is... Mohammed. Europe's Muslim population doubled in the last generation, and is set to double again. By 2025, (a decade and a half away), a third of all births in the EU will be Muslim. The demographic writing is already on the wall. A third of Muslims in France and Germany are teenagers or younger, as compared to a fifth of the native population. A third of Muslims in the UK and Belgium are under 15 versus a fifth of the native population. Counting all age groups, they're a minority. But in generational demographics, Muslims are swiftly becoming a majority. Looking at these numbers it is hard to argue that Muslims are a minority. They are not a majority at the moment, but majorities are not just a statistical snapshot, but a cultural and demographic trend. Countries are not defined by the past, or even by the present, but by the future. By the direction in which they are headed. And Europe's future is a Muslim majority.

MUSLIM SELF-ESTEEM MY DESTINATION On Frontpage, I wrote a more policy-based follow-up to this week's article The Eagle has Landed. In 2008, Obama hypocritically blasted the Bush Administration for allowing "a five-year gap after the retirement of the Space Shuttle" during which time "the United States will have to depend on foreign rockets and spacecraft to send Americans to orbit".
Obama claimed that he wanted to retain a working space shuttle. In office however he scrapped the shuttles leaving the United States wholly dependent on Russian Soyuz rockets. Around the time that Bolden was telling America that we would not go to the moon, his skeleton of a space agency, now concerned with Muslim outreach and Global Warming, was paying the Russian space agency $424 million for six Soyuz seats.
"By buying the services of space transportation, rather than the vehicles themselves, we can continue to ensure rigorous safety standards are met," Obama said at the John F. Kennedy Space Center.
Quoting him, Neil Armstrong wrote, "It was asserted that by buying taxi service to Low Earth Orbit rather than owning the taxis, "we can continue to ensure rigorous safety standards are met". The logic of that statement is mystifying."
It's even more mystifying considering that the taxis are now unreliable Russian space junk that suffer from reentry "glitches" with American astronauts on board.
It's not that the money for the space program isn't there. It's just going to different places.
During Obama's first year in office, economic aid to Pakistan nearly tripled to $1.3 billion. While Obama could find no room in his budget request for the Constellation space program, a year after the Bin Laden raid, which caught Pakistan harboring America's greatest enemy, the 2012 budget requested $3 billion in aid for Pakistan.
Bush cut economic aid to Egypt. Obama increased it. Foreign aid to the Palestinian Authority shot up from $414 million to $980 million in 2009. US contributions to the UN passed $6 billion; a 50 percent increase.
By 2011, total foreign aid spending had increased by 80% from $11.4 billion to $20 billion. In 2010, Neil Armstrong had sent in written testimony to a Congressional hearing stating that budget reductions for the Constellation program totaled $20 billion. Benghazi Survivor David Ubben With Shredded Leg Waited For 20 Hours For Help After Fighting Alongside Navy SEALs
In another demonstration of the not so "phony" scandal called Benghazi, we are discovering that Diplomatic Security Agent David Ubben fought alongside former Navy SEALs Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty to protect the diplomatic mission that came under attack on September 11, 2012 in Benghazi, Libya. As he did, he was injured and said he had to wait 20 hours for help with a shredded leg.

Obama Ignores Congress - Sends $500 million Of Taxpayer Money To Hamas
Once again we are bending the rules to send money to fund terrorists and once again the media lap dogs are ignoring it. Maybe it's just not big news anymore. It's not like the Royals had a baby or something.
Why is it not big news when we send aid to Palestinians? I am not sure but this seems to be the norm. Remember that $4 Billion Dollar Aid package that John Kerry put together for Palestinians a couple of months ago? Probably not because it went virtually unreported just as this case will.
In the interest of National Security, Barack Obama chose to waive congressional restrictions on aid to Palestinians on Friday Afternoon. The Washington Times reports:

Floridians Outraged Over Islamic Bias And Indoctrination In School Textbooks
Does Prentice Hall ring a bell? Depending on when you went to school you may have had a few Prentice Hall textbooks. I know I did. One of their current textbooks, simply titled World History, is causing quite the stir in Florida. Florida Todayreports:
Two Brevard School Board members are reviewing a world history textbook used in ninth grade Advance Placement classes amid concerns that it is biased in favor of Islam - at the expense of Christianity and Judaism. House Representative Ritch Workman and individuals from two citizens groups spoke against the textbook, Prentice Hall World History, at the Brevard School Board meeting Tuesday, citing examples of phrases and passages they believe show bias. "Our children deserve facts and accuracy, not history being revised for our own failure or desire to not offend one culture or another," said Workman, a Republican from Melbourne. The textbook, which has been used in Brevard for the past three years, devotes a chapter to Islam, with sections including the rise of Islam and the building of the Muslim empire. Conversely, Christianity and Judaism do not have their own chapters and instead are referenced in paragraphs embedded in other sections.

Obama's Organizing For America Chairman On Immigration: "We're Going To Force It Through The House"
Jim Messina, the man who is Barack Obama's former campaign manager and now is the chairman for Obama's advocacy group, Organizing for America, recently said that the group is going to push for comprehensive immigration reform in the U.S. House of Representatives. "We are going to force it through the House," said Messina.
The Washington Post reports that Messina added, "I will sit with you and cry when Barack Obama signs his name on that law and millions of people come out of the shadows."
What exactly does Obama have in mind? It appears that it is pretty much everything that is in the Senate's amnesty bill which passed 68-32 at the end of June. Not only did it contain a $5,000 penalty for hiring hiring citizens over legalized aliens, but there were a number of serious financial and national security issues that were in the bill as well.

Folks we have seen it coming where the American version of the KGB, the FBI has begun acting just like the KGB, spying on its own citizens. I wonder how long it will be before the Dictator in office, or one of his liberal faithful minions gives him the idea of trashing the Constitution altogether? How long before he actually declares martial law, saying it's for our good, our security? Honestly and in reality not long at all. I say that for this reason. Obama has to find some reason to stay in office, to keep this plush lifestyle. I believe he will do anything to stay in, and I mean anything no matter the circumstances.
Here is the beginning reported by CNET:
The US Government has demanded major Internet companies to surrender passwords of that company's users.
The U.S. government has demanded that major Internet companies divulge users' stored passwords, according to two industry sources familiar with these orders, which represent an escalation in surveillance techniques that has not previously been disclosed. If the government is able to determine a person's password, which is typically stored in encrypted form, the credential could be used to log in to an account to peruse confidential correspondence or even impersonate the user. Obtaining it also would aid in deciphering encrypted devices in situations where passwords are reused.

EVANGELICALS FOR AMNESTY - THE PERILS OF POLITICAL COMPASSION July 26, 2013 THE REV. Samuel Rodriguez brought his God-hates-borders sideshow to D.C. on Thursday. The president of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference has spent the last few years building evangelical support for another amnesty, claiming the move is in keeping with the Bible's call to act "justly and mercifully toward the stranger" and "care for the least among us." "The United States cannot wait for sensible immigration reform that upholds human dignity, family unity and respect for the rule of law," the Rev. sermonized on Politico on July 23. "We need this middle ground; one that simultaneously keeps our borders secure and creates an opportunity for aspiring Americans to emerge from the shadows, pay appropriate penalties and eventually earn citizenship." Securing our borders with an amnesty is like promoting chastity with condoms. In 1986, we amnestied 2.7 million to fix our "broken immigration system." Now we have at least 11.1 million. In the mid-1980s, they were coming at a rate of 500,000 a year. Now we're getting a million annually. If this amnesty passes, how many will we be dealing with in another 20 years? "Appropriate penalties" and earned citizenship are a smoke screen. The penalties assessed will never be collected. (It's in the left's interest to remove any impediments to citizenship/voting.) Citizenship won't be earned. (How, by memorizing the Gettysburg Address?) It will be bestowed. Rodriguez isn't the only one guzzling this particular brand of Kool-Aid. Almost 30,000 have signed up as "partners" in his Evangelical Immigration Table's "Pray for Reform Campaign." At its June meeting, the 15-million member Southern Baptist Convention resolved to "ask our governing authorities to implement, with the borders secured, a just and compassionate path to legal status... for those undocumented immigrants already living in our country." Another evangelical leader recently called me "cold" and "mean" for asking why I had to prove to Hispanics that I care about them by backing a pathway to national extinction. "No wonder they (Hispanics) think Republicans are mean," he shot back. There are several problems with using biblical authority to justify an amnesty. The Bible differentiates between "a stranger who resides with you in your land... who you shall not oppress," and an "alien" or "foreigner." The stranger (who was usually in the process of converting to Judaism) had permission to settle and did so legally. When the Children of Israel came to Egypt to escape a famine, they asked permission to sojourn there, even though Joseph was the country's viceroy. Read more: |

Film: 'Fast Terry' McAuliffe Crushes Local Dreams |

by Mike Flynn
A groundbreaking new film, Fast Terry, exposes how Virginia Gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe hood-winked voters in both Mississippi and Virginia. The film, by Jason Meath, who directed the King of Bain documentary on Mitt Romney's business career, exposes McAuliffe's crony capitalist history. After viewing the film's trailer, it is clear that McAuliffe is not an entrepreneur: he is a grifter.
"The film is better than King of Bain," filmmaker Jason Meath told Breitbart News. "Because Terry McAuliffe is King of the Whopper."

Pelosi, Feinstein, Boxer Suddenly Realize Serial Sexual Harasser Is in Their Midst
Oh, come on. If you're holding an event on military sexual assault, sexual harassment, and violence against women and children, why wouldn't you want to have San Diego Mayor Bob Filner as your keynote speaker? The women around him say he's an expert on at least one of those subjects.
A group of women military veterans announced Wednesday that it has rescinded an invitation to Mayor Bob Filner to speak at its conference in San Diego next month in light of the sexual harassment allegations against the former congressman. Filner, the leading Democrat on the House Veterans Committee when he was in Congress, was originally slated to be the keynote speaker at the National Womens Veterans Association of America's San Diego Mayors Benefit Gala on Aug. 30 at the U.S. Grant hotel. He was also set to receive a lifetime achievement award from the organization. NWVAA President Tara Jones said Filner is still invited to attend, but will no longer be allowed to speak. "After much careful thought and consideration, my board and I have determined and decided that Mayor Bob Filner will be removed as guest speaker on the topic of military sexual assault, sexual harassment and violence against women and children," Jones told reporters. The award has also been withdrawn, she said.
I suppose I should give some credit where it's due; some prominent women Democrats in California have finally awoken and recognized that A) the number of accusations against Filner is reaching critical mass, as are his increasingly lame and implausible excuses ("I'm just a big hugger!") and B) their double standard was getting glaring enough for even low-information voters to notice. Had Filner been a Republican, he would already be at least as well-known as Todd Akin, with his face on the cover of Time magazine under the headline: "PARTY OF CREEPS: WHY THE GOP'S PROBLEMS WITH WOMEN KEEP GETTING WORSE."
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi just brought down the hammer Thursday on NYC mayoral candidate Anthony Weiner and San Diego Mayor Bob Filner - two fellow Democrats who are imploding over various sexual scandals.
And now California Sens. Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer are piling on Filner, telling The Chronicle that he should start updating his resume.
"I think I have spoken and acted in terms of Anthony Weiner, in terms of when he was in the Congress of the United States. In his case, in the case of Mayor Filner, clearly, they have both admitted they need therapy. I think maybe that therapy could better be accomplished in private."
Boxer just weighed in on Filner via spokesman Zachary Coile: "As more women come forward, she believes this reminds her more and more of the Packwood case. If she were him, she'd resign."
Feinstein told The Chronicle: "The allegations made against the mayor by multiple women are very serious and, candidly, shocking. The mayor needs to take a look in the mirror and decide if remaining in office is in the best interest of San Diego."
Neither explicitly said, get out. Attribute that to the fact that he's a fellow Dem and to the formalities of how electeds talk about each other in their more civil, on-the-record moments. But the fact that they're calling him out in any way sends a message:
Dude, get lost.
Boy, that's a generous reading of subtext there, San Francisco Chronicle.
Weiner Saga Becoming Amalgamation of Tom Wolfe Novel, Christopher Buckley Satire, and Saturday Night Live Sketch
You're probably sick of Weiner stuff, but make room for three quick highlights. No, really.
First, a guy in a Zorro costume claiming to be "Carlos Danger" approaches Weiner and asks him, "Why did you steal my name?" Somewhere, a Daily Show writer is sitting, watching it, and saying, "Dang, now I need to come up with a new idea."
Secondly, marvel at how Weiner can make even the most basic statements exponentially creepier:
"I don't believe I had any more than three," he said when asked at a press conference how many relationships since his resignation were sexual in nature.
He doesn't believe it was more than three . . . but he's leaving some wiggle room, in case four or five or 30 more women come forward. Congressman, this isn't the Census. Could you give us a margin of error? Are we talking enough partners to form a basketball team, a football team, or a league roster?
Finally, meet one of the young ladies chatting with Weiner recently:
Sydney Leathers, the woman at the center of the latest Anthony Weiner sext scandal, told Inside Edition that the New York City mayoral candidate told her that he loved her, and that she said told him the same. Leathers had the following exchange with Inside Edition's correspondent:
Q: "You told Anthony Weiner that you loved him?
A: "Yes"
Q: "Did he tell you he loved you?"
A: "Yes."
"I cared about him a lot," she said in an exclusive interview set to air tomorrow, but admitted she didn't quite love him at the time. "He was very important to me."
Leathers says her feelings have since changed, especially after watching the disgraced former congressman at Tuesday's press conference with his wife, Huma Abedin. "I'm disgusted by him. He's not who I thought he was," she said.
Who, precisely, did she think he was?
Now, it's very easy to laugh at this woman. But presuming she's honestly describing her interaction with Weiner, the naïveté is almost sweet. She has almost literally every reason in the world to think he's a creepy, manipulative, selfish, liar . . . and she still comes to care for him, says she loves him, and actually trusts him.
Of course, a lot of NRO commenters are concluding that everything is going as she expected, and she always intended to cash in on all of this for her 15 minutes of fame.
Looking at the House Races and Even Lower on the Ticket . . .
You can always tell which incumbents a national party committee thinks are most vulnerable by who they tout the most. The NRCC has the "Patriot Program," which lists 20 incumbents who . . . well, I'll let the NRCC describe it: "a goal-oriented program helps Members stay on offense and fully prepare for their re-election campaigns. Through a number of Member-based communications, fundraising and strategy goals established at the beginning of the cycle, the program helps to ensure that its members are ready to run well-funded and organized campaigns against their Democratic opponents."
The current lineup: Reps. Dan Benishek (Mich.), Gary Miller (Calif.) Michael Grimm (N.Y.), Bill Johnson (Ohio), Tom Latham (Iowa), Tom Reed (N.Y.), Scott Rigell (Va.), Keith Rothfus (Pa.) Lee Terry (Neb.) Mike Coffman (Colo.), Steve Southerland (Fla.) Rodney Davis (Ill.) Jeff Denham (Calif.), Mike Fitzpatrick (Pa.) Bob Gibbs (Ohio), Chris Gibson (N.Y.), Joe Heck (Nev.), David Joyce (Ohio), David Valadao (Calif.), and Jackie Walorski (Ind.). Not too many surprises there; most of those districts were either carried by Obama or represented by a Democrat until recently.
Meanwhile, the NRCC notices that the South Florida real-estate market is so hot, at least one Democratic congressman hasn't been able to move into his district.
It has been almost a year since Joe Garcia told The Miami Herald's editorial board that he'd move into the new Key West-to-Miami-Dade Congressional District 26 if he won.
Garcia won. But he hasn't yet moved. His office said the freshman Democrat is in the process of getting a place.
Maybe he's just waiting for prices to come down.
Meanwhile, Democrats are beginning to realize that having a pop-culturally-dominant messiah at the top of the ticket, but paying less attention down-ticket, has big consequences:
Barack Obama has spent well over $1 billion on his political campaigns, but it's the $20 million to $30 million Democrats didn't shell out three years ago that is costing the White House as he slogs through the first six months of his second term.
The GOP's wildly successful, low-key and stunningly cheap campaign to seize state capitals in 2010 has come back to haunt Obama and his fellow Democrats. It's now clear that the party's loss of 20 state legislative chambers and critical Midwestern governorships represents an ongoing threat every bit as dangerous as the more publicized Republican takeback of the House that same year.
There was no stopping the GOP wave that year -- but strategists in both parties say Obama's team might have blunted it if they had somehow managed to cut into the GOP's cash advantage -- $30 million to the Democrats' $10 million -- in statehouse races by making campaigns at the very bottom of the ballot a priority.
Eh. Obama has always been very skilled at persuading voters to believe in him. They're not so persuaded when he touts Jon Corzine, Martha Coakley, Creigh Deeds, or most of the 2010 Democrats . . .
ADDENDUM: Somebody vandalized the Lincoln Memorial this morning. I'll bet that jerk really hated Rich's book.

"I don't quite understand how you would feel you'd have the moral authority, as the head administrator in this city, to oversee employees, when your standard of conduct is so much lower than the standard of conduct that is expected of us," said Brunda. Friday, July 26, 2013 To: Friends & Supporters From: Gary L. Bauer A Tale Of Two Deaths As we reported yesterday, President Obama lashed out at what he called "phony scandals" in Washington during a speech on the economy this week. The two big scandals in the news are the IRS/Tea Party scandal and the Benghazi cover-up. Patricia Smith was on Fox News yesterday, and she did not take Mr. Obama's remarks very well. You see, her son, Sean Smith, was killed during the attacks on our consulate in Benghazi, Libya. Nearly a year later, she is still waiting for someone in the Obama Administration to explain to her what happened on the night of September 11, 2012, and why her son died. Responding to Mr. Obama's rhetoric, Mrs. Smith said, "He's wrong. My son is dead. How could that be phony?" Her comments led me to think about how her son's death is being portrayed to the American people compared to the death of Trayvon Martin. Trayvon Martin is now a household name. I would not be surprised if 99% of the American people know who he is. And why wouldn't they? Even now the stories persist about the tragedy of his death, how we can achieve justice for Travyon and advance the cause of racial reconciliation. In contrast, I would be shocked if half of the public could identify Sean Smith as a victim of the Benghazi attacks. The media show little interest in finding out why he is dead. There are no calls by major news organizations and opinion leaders for justice for Sean Smith. Trayvon Martin regrettably lost his life because of the actions of a neighborhood watchman, as well as his own actions. Reasonable people can disagree about whether George Zimmerman was justified in using deadly force. But that incident was elevated to a cause celebre. President Obama commented on it. Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton exploited it. Vigils were held across the country. These statistics speak volumes: A Google News search for "Trayvon Martin" yields 310,000,000 results. The same search for "Sean Smith" produces fewer than 49,000. Smith wasn't killed unintentionally. He was murdered by jihadists, avowed enemies of America. But Barack Obama effectively ignored Smith's cries for help. And the president who has ordered the Justice Department to continue investigating George Zimmerman is doing everything he can to prevent the truth from coming out about why Mr. Smith died. Sadly, America's lapdog media cooperates in this effort to keep Sean Smith "buried" while transforming Trayvon Martin into a national symbol. There is just no way to exploit Smith's death in order to advance the liberal narrative. I feel terribly that individual miscalculations on a dark street led to the death of an unarmed teenage boy. But I am just as disturbed that a great nation may let the death of a hero go unexplained, and may allow a president, having never been held accountable, to walk into the history books unmarred by such a scandal. Shut It Down! If you thought tensions in Washington couldn't get any worse, think again. There are huge budget battles looming in the months ahead, and both sides appear to be hunkering down for a fight. We got a preview of the president's position this week with his campaign-style stump speech attacking Congress. Ahead of the 2014 mid-term elections, which historically are disastrous for the president's party, Obama is doing everything he can to rally his base, hoping to avoid losing any more ground on Capitol Hill. Even the Washington Post acknowledges that Obama is taking "a more confrontational approach" that could lead to a government shutdown due to his "repeated and little-noticed veto threats over the past few weeks." For their part, Republicans are vowing to keep spending under control, and some are also drawing a line in the sand on Obamacare. Sixty House Republicans and more than a dozen senators have warned the GOP leadership that they will oppose any government spending bill that funds Obamacare, even if it means shutting down the government. At times in the past, I have been skeptical about the idea of shutting down the government because the American people would learn about it through the distorted lens of the left-wing media. But this time I am firmly in the camp of Senators Cruz, Lee, Paul, Rubio and others because the stakes are very high. As one columnist put it recently, "Obamacare ... is looking more and more like an unmitigated disaster." (The entire column is well worth reading to understand why.) Every day brings more evidence that it is hurting economic growth and hard-working Americans who are seeing their hours and paychecks cut because of its onerous mandates and regulations. Even honest Democrats admit Obamacare is a "huge train wreck." Poll after poll suggests beyond a reasonable doubt that the American people do not like Obamacare. A new Fox News poll finds that independent voters want Obamacare repealed by a whopping 40-point margin! Republicans should pass a resolution that funds every government agency except for Obamacare, and let the chips fall where they may. Senator Marco Rubio makes the case in this opinion piece. If there is a government shutdown, it won't be because Republicans refused to fund the government. It will be because Obama is holding America hostage to an unpopular, unworkable disaster! The Republican National Committee should start running ads right now. Karl Rove should commit the resources of his big benefactors now so that the American people understand what is going on before the liberal media has a chance to twist the facts. Feature a working mother who has had her hours cut back looking into the camera and saying, "Mr. President, I am begging you not to let your ego get in the way of America's economic recovery. Don't just suspend parts of Obamacare -- stop it all!" The polls clearly show that the American people are already on our side. Strike now, and stay on the attack! And I would say to Speaker Boehner and Leader McConnell that they are making a horrible miscalculation if they think business as usual will pass muster this time. They have it in their hands to rally the American people and inspire massive voter turnout next year, expanding the majority in the House and taking back the Senate. Or they could suppress conservative turnout by playing an "inside the Beltway" game, potentially costing them the House and handing Obama, Pelosi and Reid complete control of Washington yet again. What do you think? Is it worth risking a government shutdown in order to defund Obamacare? I'd appreciate your feedback.

ObamaCare deliberately shutting down the nation's best hospitals
Jul 28, 2013 06:12 am | Coach Collins
by Doug Book, editor
Anyone not convinced by now that the Affordable Care Act (ACA) was fashioned by those in pursuit of greater power rather than better healthcare apparently doesn't know that the law features a section which deliberately shuts down many of the best and most effective healthcare providers in the nation. Thanks to a deal forged by ObamaCare's Democrat authors and associations which represent many of the nation's largest hospitals, all clinics, treatment facilities and hospitals owned by physicians are being effectively driven out of business.
For years the nation's critical care hospitals have been unable to successfully compete with the smaller, more specialized, doctor-owned and operated facilities. As the Wall Street Journal reports, "...many physician-owned hospitals have enjoyed profit margins of 20 to 35 percent in recent years. Meanwhile, community hospitals had profits of just 7 percent in 2010." (1)
But rather than worry about finding a way to match the quality of care ... Continue Reading:ObamaCare deliberately shutting down the nation's best hospitals

The "Phony" Scandal That Just Won't Go Away
Jul 27, 2013 06:13 am | Coach Collins
by Jim Emerson, staff writer
In a speech before a group of low information acolytes Mr. Obama chastised Republicans for their "parade of distractions, political posturing and phony scandals". The IRS, NSA, Fast and furious, press intimidation and that really, really pesky scandal that will not go away, the murder of four Americans in Benghazi. Mr. Obama, his Democrat toadies and especially Hillary Clinton don't want the truth of the Benghazi affair to see the light of day. Before the dust could settle on the coffins of Ambassador Chris Stevens and the others killed on that day, the State Department had forced attack survivors to sign non-disclosure agreements. Obama assigns job of gun confiscation to the Centers for Disease Control
Jul 26, 2013 06:13 am | Coach Collins
by Doug Book, editor
"Ideally, handguns, which account for more than half of all homicides in the United States, should be banned completely, but we recognize that this is not currently politically feasible," wrote Dr. Karl P. Adler in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA). (1)
For years the confiscationist left have fought a losing battle in their attempt to repeal the rights of 100 million American gun owners. Even with the benefit of what dedicated gun grabbers undoubtedly considered a God-send-the brutal murder of 20 children in Newtown, Mass-the right to keep and bear arms has been so jealously guarded and the intentions of gun control advocates so mistrusted that no significant legislation could be passed.
For this reason Barack Obama has decided to remove 2nd Amendment rights from the realm of politics and constitutional guarantee by transforming the question of gun violence into an issue of public health.
On January 26th, Obama ... Continue Reading:Obama assigns job of gun confiscation to the Centers for Disease Control

The Sequester, "Austerity," and Obama's Attempt at a Comeback
Posted: 28 Jul 2013 03:51 PM PDT
(John Hinderaker)
On Thursday, the Congressional Budget Office wrote a letter to Democratic Congressman Chris Van Hollen, responding to Van Hollen's questions about the effect of canceling the sequester of a modest amount of federal spending for the rest of 2013, and 2014. CBO director Douglas Elmendorf wrote, in part:
In total, by CBO's estimates, canceling the automatic spending reductions effective August 1 would increase outlays relative to those under current law by $14 billion in fiscal year 2013 and by $90 billion in fiscal year 2014.
Those changes would increase the level of real (inflation-adjusted) gross domestic product (GDP) by 0.7 percent and increase the level of employment by 0.9 million in the third quarter of calendar year 2014 (the end of fiscal year 2014) relative to the levels projected under current law, CBO estimates.
So far the CBO's letter hasn't made much news, but Republicans in Congress expect it to become a major talking point as the Democrats try to erase the sequester and otherwise jack up federal spending in the months to come: the CBO says that if we just eliminate the sequester, it will create 900,000 jobs!
Of course, the Democrats won't mention that Elmendorf's letter also says this:
Although output would be greater and employment higher in the next few years if the spending reductions under current law were reversed, that policy would lead to greater federal debt, which would eventually reduce the nation's output and income below what would occur under current law.
Moreover, the CBO uses voodoo economics, in the form of a magical "multiplier effect" for federal spending, to consistently overstate the effect of more government spending on economic growth and employment. This is why CBO thought the stimulus bill would be a roaring success, producing three million new jobs. They haven't yet figured out that inefficient spending destroys wealth and retards economic growth.
Van Hollen's initiative ties in directly with the interview that Barack Obama gave to the New York Times, which Steve referred to earlier today. Obama made comments about the U.S. economy, and that of Europe, which may seem mystifying at first glance:
And one of the interesting things that we don't talk about enough is the contrast between what's happened in the United States and what's happened in a lot of other developing countries, Europe in particular. It's pretty rare where we have the chance to look at two policy approaches and follow them over several years and see which one worked. And the fact is there are a lot of European countries who followed the prescription that the House Republicans are calling for right now, and not only have they lagged well below where we've gone in terms of growth, in many cases their debt and their deficits have actually gone up because their economy is still effectively in recession. And although we haven't been growing as fast as we would like, we have consistently outperformed those countries that followed the recipe that the House Republicans are offering right now.
What is he talking about? "Austerity." In the left-wing playbook, austerity equals any effort to restrain government spending, no matter how out of control that spending may currently be. In this case, austerity equals the sequester. Obama suggests that his approach-running up trillions of dollars in debt-has proved superior to trying to get government waste under control, and looking to the private sector to spur growth. Thus, when the Democrats try to restore the miniscule sequester cuts in the coming spending resolutions, and add billions more in new spending in addition, they will accuse Republicans of following the Europeans' supposedly failed "austerity" policies.
In the meantime, what is really failing is the American economy. There is no need to recite the abysmal numbers one more time; Obama in effect acknowledges them, as in today's Times interview, while taking no responsibility for his own failures. It is in this respect that, in my opinion, Obama most closely resembles Jimmy Carter: he laments a declining economy as though he were a mere bystander.
As has been widely reported, Obama is trying to escape from irrelevance for the remaining years of his term by launching a PR offensive on the economy. His goal is to vastly increase federal spending, so as to make even more Americans reliant on the government. A dependent voter is a Democrat voter, Obama reasons.
Will his drive for more spending, more debt and higher taxes succeed? We should never discount the Republicans' ability to lose when an issue comes down to legislative infighting, but Obama is fighting an uphill battle. Scott Rasmussen finds that 62% of voters think the government should cut spending to bolster the economy. Only 23% think the struggling economy should cause the government to spend more. It will take more than selective quotation from a CBO letter to turn those numbers around.

Reporting from Amsterdam
Posted: 28 Jul 2013 11:39 AM PDT
(Scott Johnson)
We flew overnight from Minneapolis to Amsterdam and arrived happily on time this morning. We hit the ground running, touring the Rijksmuseum this afternoon. The museum is of course the home of many magnificent works including, perhaps most famously, Rembrandt's Night Watch. The museum just reopened this year after a 10-year reconstruction project. The reconstructed museum is magnificent.
We are taking in what Amsterdam has to offer for a few days before we catch the National Review cruise of the Norwegian fjords with the NR all stars. Thanks to the several readers who posted kind comments on my post regarding the trip yesterday.
Heading over to pick up our luggage when we arrived this morning, Carol of Park City, Utah stopped us to say hello. Carol had been on the flight from Minneapolis with us and said her friend Jane of Boston, Mass. had texted her to let her know that we would be on the cruise. We met up with Jane at the baggage carousel. Carol and Jane are traveling together on the NR cruise. This will be their seventh time around on a National Review cruise and I gather it will be a form of group therapy for all of us. I certainly feel better already.
The Rijksmuseum holds over a million pieces, only a fraction of which are on display at any given time. A few of the items on display recall the Nazi occupation. The museum is reputedly the only national museum in the world that is not only a museum of painting, not only a museum of the decorative arts, but also a museum of history.
The museum is now arranged chronologically, with the twentieth century gallery on the top (third) floor. On the third floor we happened on to the item below, one of the most sinister I have ever seen in a museum. As Dan Hayes put it for CNN: "It looks like a large, ugly, ostentatious chess set at first sight, but look closer and the pawns are helmeted soldiers, the rooks howitzers and the bishops fighter aircraft. The set was a gift from leading Nazi Heinrich Himmler to Anton Mussert, a senior figure in the Dutch National Socialist party, as a reward for his loyalty." The pawns are prone infantry soldiers aiming their rifes. Engravings around the board list the names of countries the Nazis had occupied by 1940. They don't show up on the photo I took, but they are there.

Peter King's overly broad denunciation
Posted: 28 Jul 2013 11:09 AM PDT
(Paul Mirengoff)
Rep. Peter King added his voice to Chris Christie's in blasting Rand Paul on foreign policy and national security issues. King went beyond attacking Paul, though - he indicted Republican House members who voted to curtail NSA's surveillance program.
King told CNN's Candy Crowley that he finds it "absolutely disgraceful" that so many House Republicans voted last week to defund the NSA's surveillance program. He added, "this is an isolationist streak that's in our party, it goes totally against the party of Eisenhower and Reagan, Bush."
Actually, it isn't isolationist to oppose domestic surveillance. One can support an internationalist approach to foreign policy and still oppose obtaining records about the private activities of ordinary Americans.
I agree that it would be badly misguided to end NSA's surveillance program. But concern over that program is understandable, especially given the Obama administration's track record of abuse (e.g., the IRS scandal).
And it's not the worst thing in the world that the vote in the House was close. The administration, and future administrations, need to understand the consequences that likely would follow if any evidence of actual abuse emerges.
UPDATE: To be clear, there is much less reason to fear abuse of the NSA surveillance program than to fear abuse by the IRS. For one thing, the NSA receives direct oversight from the courts and from Congress.
For another, it is the IRS's job to conduct audits and to grant or deny various exemptions. Thus, it makes these decisions in the natural course of its work, and political bias can be brought to bear without the IRS going on an expedition.
By contrast, the NSA would have to go far out of its way to investigate my phone calls.
Finally, the national security bureaucracy is probably far less inherently left-wing than the IRS. However, I take limited comfort from this, considering that it utilizes contractors like Edward Snowden.
The main point, I think, is that, as Rep. Mike Rogers, chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, said today, "there [are] zero privacy violations on this in the entire length of the program [note: at least as far as we know] and 54 disrupted terrorist plots."

The Developing States of America?
Posted: 28 Jul 2013 09:01 AM PDT
(Steven Hayward)
Telegraph columnist Nile Gardiner jumps all over President Obama today for his latest embarrassing gaffe, calling the United States and Europe "developing" countries:
You can imagine the derision that would have flowed from the liberal "mainstream media" if George W. Bush had referred to the United States as well as its European allies as "developing countries." This is exactly the term he used in an interview with The New York Times, which has just been published. In the interview, given in Galesburg, Illinois, the site of his distinctly unimpressive speech on the economy at Knox College last Wednesday, President Obama had this to say to reporters Jackie Calmes and Michael D. Shear:
"And one of the interesting things that we don't talk about enough is the contrast between what's happened in the United States and what's happened in a lot of other developing countries, Europe in particular. "
Well, yes, Gardiner is right to point out that Obama is indeed lost without his Teleprompter, but I wonder whether this is a rare "Kinsley gaffe" that tell us a deeper truth. I've argued for a long time that in some sense the United States should be considered a "developing" nation for, among other reasons, its high rate of immigration, thereby requiring it to have high rates of economic growth and innovation.
Of course, if Obama were to take this idea seriously, he'd need to embrace pro-growth policies toward resource development, low taxes, etc. And the U.S. would need to be grouped along with other developing nations in things like international trade and climate treaties (that is to say, exempt or placed with the most favorable terms). I'll take that deal.
So maybe Obama was just looking ahead when he talked about the "57 states" of America.

Who serves in the military?
Posted: 28 Jul 2013 08:32 AM PDT
(Paul Mirengoff)
Peter Robinson at Ricochet directs attention to a study by the Heritage Foundation of military enlistment to population ratios by region. It tells us that, generally speaking, folks from Red States are much more inclined to serve in the military than folks from Blue States.
The most over-represented region consists of Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisiana. The most under-represented region is the Northeast from Pennsylvania upwards.
The Mountain West - Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, and New Mexico - is over-represented. So is Southeast.
The Pacific West and the Midwest are underrepresented. The Midwest's short-fall in the military surprised me. But the much of that region has been trending Democratic for some time.
The Heritage Foundation study also explodes the myth that military service disproportionately attracts men and women from disadvantaged backgrounds. To the contrary, the study shows that U.S. military service disproportionately attracts enlisted personnel and officers who do not come from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Members of the all-volunteer military are significantly more likely to come from high-income neighborhoods than from low-income neighborhoods. Only 11 percent of enlisted recruits in 2007 came from the poorest one-fifth (quintile) of neighborhoods, while 25 percent came from the wealthiest quintile.
Moreover:
American soldiers are more educated than their peers. A little more than 1 percent of enlisted personnel lack a high school degree, compared to 21 percent of men 18-24 years old, and 95 percent of officer accessions have at least a bachelor's degree.
Generally speaking, then, people don't volunteer for the military because they lack employment opportunities. They volunteer because they want to serve their country. And those with that level of patriotism tend to come from "Red America."

The Hinderaker-Ward Experience, Episode 51: The Savior Podcasters, With Victor Davis Hanson
Posted: 27 Jul 2013 11:53 AM PDT
(John Hinderaker)
Brian Ward and I recorded Episode 51 of the Hinderaker-Ward Experience this morning. Topics include: Detroit's bankruptcy, and why it is the GOP's fault, despite the city's having no Republican officeholders for half a century; the sequelae to the George Zimmerman trial, including Juror B29, and why juror remorse is not unusual; the return of Anthony Weiner, and what is the deal, anyway, with his wife? And, of course, the Loon of the Week and This Week in Gatekeeping.
In addition to all of that, we were joined by Victor Davis Hanson for a fun discussion of his new book, The Savior Generals: How Five Great Commanders Saved Wars That Were Lost - From Ancient Greece to Iraq. If you have forgotten who Themistocles and Belisarius were, or want to know why these "savior generals" were like Will Kane and Shane, you should tune in.
You can listen to the podcast by playing it right here, or you can go to Ricochet to download or subscribe to the podcast in various ways, or you can subscribe on iTunes or elsewhere. Or you can use Stitcher. There are many ways to experience the Hinderaker-Ward Experience, but I think the best is by subscribing on iTunes. That way, you never have to worry about missing an episode.
And I almost forgot to mention-we have a new sponsor, Tonx Coffee. If you follow the link, you can sign up for a free two weeks of coffee!

This evening we are off to Amsterdam to join the NR cruise of the Norwegian fjords with NR's team of all-star speakers. The cruise departs from Amsterdam on August 1. We'll be looking around town in the meantime.
Included among the advertised speakers on the NR cruise are some of my favorite writers. I'm thinking of the pseudonymous Theodore Dalrypmple, traveling under his given name of Anthony Daniels, NR's own Jay Nordlinger, and the omniscient David Pryce-Jones and Paul Johnson, among others. I hope to work up the nerve to ask one or two of them to sit for short videos I can share with Power Line readers during the cruise. I also hope to be able to report comments of interest from the NR panels, but otherwise I'll mostly be trying to recharge my batteries for the next two weeks.

About Those Phony Scandals...

Remember when bumper stickers said, "No one died at the Watergate"? Or something like that. One can debate how major a scandal Watergate was, but I don't really understand how anyone can try to minimize the significance of the Obama administration scandals, let alone allege that they are all "phony," as Obama did. The Week in Pictures: Royal Weiner Edition

I really wanted to label this week's image roundup after George Alexander Louis, the newest Windsor, but quite obviously the most royal dick in politics trumps everything this week. Besides, I can't get a modified version of the old Oscar Meyer ad jingle out of my head:
Oh I wish I were an Anthony Weiner, That is what I'd truly like to be-e-e, For if I were an Anthony Weiner, Everyone would be laugh-ing at me.

Highs and Lows in Today's News
Posted: 26 Jul 2013 09:59 PM PDT
(John Hinderaker)
The news is coming at us so fast these days that we can't keep up. The Obama administration's attacks on America, apart from anything else, are too numerous and too constant to rebut. I do have some more substantial posts in mind for the next couple of days, but didn't get to them tonight because we spent the evening watching a fight card in Minneapolis. So here is a quickie: a high point, and a low one, from today's news cycle.
The palm goes to Jeff Sessions, Washington's most consistent voice of sanity. Currently his main focus is immigration, but that is just one of a series of issues on which Sessions has not only been right, but has been way ahead of the curve. Today Sessions said, on that topic:
Instead of trying to save the Schumer bill with a "comprehensive" accord, Republicans need to focus on helping out-of-work Americans find good-paying jobs that can support a family. The comprehensive effort underway in Congress not only provides amnesty before security measures are achieved but calls for an unprecedented increase in low-skill immigration. Our immigration system is of course broken, but the efforts we are seeing now would make things much worse - particularly for struggling workers of all backgrounds.
Is it conceivable that Paul Ryan doesn't get that basic point? I certainly hope not.
The Bronx cheer goes to comedian/actor Jim Carrey, who issued one of the most dumbass tweets in the short history of that medium, expressing solidarity with whatever morons vandalized the Lincoln Memorial:
What an idiot! "Corporate tyranny"? Sure: someone from Apple just lined up a bunch of Android users against a wall and shot them. And WalMart just sent a bunch of armed thugs to take over the Capitol. Right. You wonder how people this stupid manage to get through the day; but then, I suppose Carrey has employees to help him do things like find his way to "work."
Everything else in today's news fell somewhere in between Jim Carrey and Jeff Sessions.

Richard Thompson Ford: An expert who...
Posted: 26 Jul 2013 02:54 PM PDT
(Scott Johnson)
Richard Thompson Ford is a Stanford University Law School professor who does not struggle with issues of self-esteem. He somewhat immodestly fancies himself "[a]n expert on civil rights and antidiscrimination law [who] has distinguished himself as an insightful voice and compelling writer on questions of race and multiculturalism."
I have it on good authority that Ford is probably the only person who has ever described himself as such. Nor surprisingly, in a column on the Zimmerman case for the New Republic, Ford got just about everything that mattered to his judgment of the case wrong. I think he might more aptly be described as an "expert" who can't keep his mouth shut when he doesn't know what he's talking about. Ford's editors at TNR are more of the same.
Michelle Meyer slices and dices Zimmerman's assertions of fact here and here. Glenn Reynolds gives the official InstaPundit condensed version here.
STEVE adds: There's a perfect inverse relationship between the soundness and substance of a person and his intellectual vanity and self-professions of greatness. My favorite example is Benjamin Barber of Rutgers, who will tell you on his website that he is an "internationally renowned political theorist." Well, he's surely not any good at political practice, as he was a principal toady for Libya's Qaddafi.

Quantum Conservatism?
Posted: 26 Jul 2013 02:26 PM PDT
(Steven Hayward)
So the big story on the right today is that Gov. Chris Christie has leveled a blast at libertarians, in particular his potential 2016 primary rival Sen. Rand Paul:
"This strain of libertarianism that's going through both parties right now and making big headlines I think is a very dangerous thought. ... You can name any number of people and he's [Rand Paul] one of them," Christie said at a panel of Republican governors in Aspen, Colorado.
Set aside for the moment the proximate cause of this schism, which is narrowly about the argument over NSA surveillance, but involves larger arguments inside the right about foreign policy that go all the way back to the Taft years. This split has its roots in basic differences of principle between libertarians and isolationist conservatives on the one side, and internationalist conservatives and the dreaded neoconservatives on the other. A second but no less important aspect of this split is the philosophical and political argument between the authority of tradition and community (Nisbet, Kirk, etc.) versus maximum individual liberty (Friedman, etc), or between "order" versus "liberty," or "virtue" versus "licentiousness." In this respect, Gov. Christie's blast can be seen as merely a Jersey shore version of Russell Kirk's famous attack on libertarians as the "chirping sectaries" (PDF file) of the right.
National Review's Frank Meyer famous attempt at "fusionism" between these rival and incompatible strains of conservative thought was ingenuous and arguably successful in the political practice of Ronald Reagan. Reagan once said that "libertarianism is the heart and soul of conservatism," but he was also plainly able to embrace and convey traditional conservative principles and sentiments as well. He was able to hold the right together better than any Republican since.
One thing different about today is easy to make out: the traditionalist-libertarian argument was carried out 50 years ago by Russell Kirk against Murray Rothbard, or Paul Weyrich against Milton Friedman (who squared off in a famous debate in 1982 at the Philadelphia Society). Now it's between potential contenders for the presidency. To some extent this reflects the success of the right over the last 50 years in becoming a potent political force. But when the practical stakes become this much more real, the theoretical harmonization of the seminar room and learned journal starts to break down. It reminds me of fusion energy: theoretically possible, but as a practical matter extremely difficult or unsustainable.
Hence it now seems to me that conservatism today is closer to quantum physics than fusion energy: just as in quantum physics-where it is a core proposition that you cannot know both the position and momentum of a particle at the same time-today's quantum conservatism represents an instability in which it is impossible to settle on the position (Tea Party or establishment? Security or absolute privacy? Populism or sobriety?) or what will generate the most momentum for the right at the same time. Each seems to cancel out the other to some extent.
So we're waiting for our political Einstein to discover the dark matter that will make it all hold together for 2016. Why not? After all, we're told that much of practical politics depends on dark arts anyway. . .

Barack Obama, duped by the Communists?
Posted: 26 Jul 2013 01:11 PM PDT
(Paul Mirengoff)
President Obama was probably too young ever to have chanted, "Ho Ho Ho Chi Minh, NLF is going to win." But somewhere along the way he picked up that late 1960s pro-Communist Vietnam spirit.
Yesterday, talking with reporters alongside Vietnamese President Truong Tan Sang, Obama said, that he and Sang "discussed the fact that Ho Chi Minh was actually inspired by the U.S. Declaration of Independence and Constitution, and the words of Thomas Jefferson." Obama also noted that Ho Chi Minh had sent a letter to President Truman expressing the hope that the U.S. would cooperate with his movement. The president added that it may have taken 67 years, but the United States and Vietnam are finally enjoying the relationship that Ho once wrote of.
I have nothing against cooperating with Vietnam, as it deals with threat posed by its former ally China. But I find it disgusting to see the U.S. president romanticize a bloodthirsty Communist tyrant like Ho Chi Minh by comparing him with America's founders. Ho Chi Minh's inspiration came from the likes of China's Mao Tse-tung, not from the likes of Thomas Jefferson.
Comparing Ho Chi Minh to the U.S. founders was a standard talking point of the radical left in the 1960s. It was the cynical equivalent of the American Communists sending their "Abraham Lincoln brigade" to fight in the Spanish Civil War during the 1930s. Naturally, Ho Chi Minh tried to play up this talking point.
None of the hardened leftists I knew believed in the comparison, nor did I. But it duped plenty of unsophisticated student protesters.
The real Ho Chi Minh was, as I said, a bloodthirsty tyrant. His first act upon gaining power in North Vietnam was to murder roughly 50,000 people whom he considered political opponents, and this was only the beginning. That doesn't sound like George Washington.
Ho Chi Minh's program was straight from the Leninist-Stalinist-Maoist playbook - the forced industrialization of the peasantry, backed up by "heavy doses of propaganda, extensive surveillance, and the occasional resort to naked terror." That doesn't sound like Thomas Jefferson.
Obama's ignorance of history is well-documented. But he has enough native intelligence to realize that if Ho Chi Minh had been inspired by the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, he would have organized North Vietnam as a democratic, pluralistic state, not as a brutal Communist dictatorship.
So was Obama simply making nice with a foreign leader with whom he wants to have good relations? No. One can praise modern Vietnam without going out of the way to praise Ho Chi Minh. It's as if Obama used a photo opportunity with David Cameron to extol Winston Churchill, except that (1) Churchill deserves to be extolled and (2) Obama disapproves of Churchill.
So is Obama the modern version of the cynical 60s rad who pretended that Ho Chi Minh was in the finest American tradition or of the frivolous 60s anti-war dupe who bought this line?
Some of both, I think. He (and his team) are children of the children of the 60s, and he has internalized many of the radical myths of that unfortunate era. To that extent, he can be seen as a dupe.
But Obama has superimposed some of these myths onto his own radicalism, which includes little regard for freedom and democracy and too much regard for those who fight against the West. To that extent, he knows what he's doing when he romanticizes Ho Chi Minh.
Fortunately, there are no more Ho Chi Minh's and only a few wannabes (think Venezuela). Still, Obama's fond remarks about the old Communist dictator adds to the distress of those who worry about his dealings with the likes of Putin, Erdogan, and the leaders of Iran.

Are these judges really necessary, except to promote Obama's power play?
Posted: 26 Jul 2013 09:01 AM PDT
(Paul Mirengoff)
I've written here, here, and here about Cornelia Pillard, President Obama's radical feminist nominee for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia. But I haven't yet commented on the threshold question of whether any additional judges should be seated on the D.C. Circuit.
This was a topic of much debate at Wednesday's hearing on the Pillard nomination. Both sides - the Democrats who want three new judges confirmed and the Republicans who deny the need for any additional judges - cited statistics and statements by judges and ex-judges.
But the Republicans seem to have the better case.
The court now has eight regular judges - four appointed by a Democrat; four by a Republican. In addition, it has six active senior judges. According to Chief Judge Merrick Garland, one of the senior judges carries a full case load, one carries 75 percent of an active case load, two carry 50 percent and two 25 percent. Moreover, the senior judges are young and healthy enough that none is planning to step down, and all can reasonably be expected to keep working for about a decade.
The current workload of the six senior judges translates into the equivalent of 3.25 judges. Thus, the court, in effect, has the equivalent of roughly 11.25 full-time judges.
Is that sufficient manpower? It appears to be. The number of consolidated cases scheduled for oral argument per active judge has fallen steadily, from 99 in 2003-2004 to 81 in 2012-2013. Indeed, Sen. Lee noted that the court has had to cancel argument dates because it doesn't have enough cases.
The Democrats counter with statistics they say show an increasing number of "pending cases." But the numbers cited by Sen. Grassley and others seem like a better measure of actual workload.
Moreover, statements by some current judges to Sen. Grassley confirm that the court doesn't need more judges. One judge said:
I do not believe the current caseload of the D.C. Circuit or, for that matter, the anticipated caseload in the near future, merits additional judgeships at this time. . . .If any more judges were added now, there wouldn't be enough work to go around.
Another stated:
The Court does not need additional judges for several reasons. For starters, our docket has been stable or decreasing, as the public record manifests. Similarly, as the public record also reflects, each judge's work product has decreased from thirty-some opinions each year in the 1990s, to twenty-some, and even fewer than twenty, opinions each year since then.
Against this, the Democrats referred to letters from several heavy-hitters, including Chief Justice Roberts, that they say support the case for more judges. But the Republicans are on firmer ground because they are relying on statements from current judges on the court, including the Chief Judge.
At the end of the day, though, the Democrats' case isn't about workload; it's about packing the court. The D.C. Circuit is considered the second most important court in the land. And it serves as one of the few remaining checks on a president who seeks to flout the law through executive orders, among other methods. It was the D.C. Circuit, for example, that first declared President Obama's recess appointments to the National Labor Board unconstitutional. Obama's answer is to send in reinforcements.
Senator Grassley and our friend Rep. Tom Cotton have proposed legislation to eliminate the three vacant judgeships from the D.C. Circuit. Grassley's version of the legislation would move them to other circuits where judges are dealing with very high caseloads.
The Senate won't pass this legislation, of course. But its merit may influence how Republicans treat the three pending nominations.
If, at the end of the day, there's a compromise under which some but not all the nominees are confirmed, perhaps Pillard will be the first to be "cut."

Green Weenie of the Week: A Guy Named Rush
Posted: 26 Jul 2013 08:34 AM PDT
(Steven Hayward)
Nope, nice try-it's not the "Rush" you thought of. It's New Jersey congressman and U.S. Senate hopeful Rush Holt, a Ph.D physicist he'll tell you (making him another Obama-era Chu-toy), who has taken out a YouTube ad to tell us that "millions will die" unless . . . we pass a carbon tax.
Seriously?
Without a single trace of irony, Holt harrumphs against "dumping gases into the atmosphere." The greater Rush would have a hard time topping this for satire.
Some Power Line readers may want to take in the full 90-second ad, and spot the distortions and omissions that would earn any science student a failing grade if this was presented as a paper in class. Grading with utmost leniency, I count eight mistakes. (Carbon dioxide is "up 39 percent" since . . . when? Holt doesn't say. I guess baselines or time frames are unimportant when you're trying to give us a Bum Rush for the Senate.) But I want to draw your attention to the 15-second version of the ad, which features one of the favorite tricks of the climateers:
Here Holt uses a compressed Y-axis scale to scare the wits out of you about rising CO2 levels. Sometimes it is valid to use a compressed Y-axis scale when presenting data visually, but usually you'd be right to take note of the scale and probe into the justification for it. Below, for example, is what the famous "Keeling Curve" of CO2 levels since the pre-industrial era looks like if you plot it from zero, and provide an upper marker for a doubling of CO2 from pre-industrial levels-which is the level that the alarmists generally say we'll break out of a 2-degree warming zone into the "danger" zone. As you can make out, since the pre-industrial era we've gone a little more than a third of the way to a doubling of CO2. Leaving aside the defects in the climate model projections, even with increased emissions from the developing world, we're likely more than a century away from reaching a doubling of CO2. Doesn't look so scary when presented this way. The charts like Holt's that show a steep curve are deliberately designed to mislead.

DO NOT ADD A SINGLE WORD
Yes, he told us in advance what he planned to do. Few were listening.
The following is a narrative taken from a 2008 Sunday morning televised "Meet The Press'.
From Sunday's 07 Sept. 2008 11 : 48 : 04 EST, Televised "Meet the Press" THE THEN Senator Obama was asked about his stance on the American Flag.
General Bill Gann' USAF (ret.) asked Obama to explain WHY he doesn't follow protocol when the National Anthem is played.
The General stated to Obama that according to the United States Code, Title 36, Chapter 10, Sec. 171...
During rendition of the national anthem, when the flag is displayed, all present (except those in uniform) are expected to stand at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart. Or, at the very least, "Stand and Face It".
NOW GET THIS !!
'Senator Obama replied :
"As I've said about the flag pin, I don't want to be perceived as taking sides". "There are a lot of people in the world to whom the American flag is a symbol of oppression.." "The anthem itself conveys a war-like message. You know, the bombs bursting in air and all that sort of thing."
(ARE YOU READY FOR THIS???)
Obama continued : "The National Anthem should be 'swapped' for something less parochial and less bellicose. I like the song 'I'd Like To Teach the World To Sing'. If that were our anthem, then, I might salute it. In my opinion, we should consider reinventing our National Anthem as well as 'redesign' our Flag to better offer our enemies hope and love. It's my intention, if elected, to disarm America to the level of acceptance to our Middle East Brethren. If we, as a Nation of warring people, conduct ourselves like the nations of Islam, where peace prevails - - - perhaps a state or period of mutual accord could exist between our governments ...."
|
When I become President, I will seek a pact of agreement to end hostilities between those who have been at war or in a state of enmity, and a freedom from disquieting oppressive thoughts. We as a Nation, have placed upon the nations of Islam, an unfair injustice which is WHY my wife disrespects the Flag and she and I have attended several flag burning ceremonies in the past".
"Of course now, I have found myself about to become the President of the United States and I have put my hatred aside. I will use my power to bring CHANGE to this Nation, and offer the people a new path.My wife and I look forward to becoming our Country's First black Family. Indeed,CHANGE is about to overwhelm the United States of America "
Yes, you read it right.
I, for one, am speechless!!!

Five job stats Obama won't mention
