North Korea missile: Sugar shipment hides war missiles in Panama Canal
A North Korea missile was only one of several "undeclared war weapons" that were discovered being smuggled via a sugar shipment into the Panama Canal from North Korea this week, The Sun reported this Tuesday, July 16. Hidden within brown sugar crates, a new missile threat has made itself known after the ship's crew was caught attempting to transport the weapons from Cuba.
The North Korea missiles have initiated another war threat from the rogue North Korean state; a ship's war weapons were fortunately captured by coastguards in the Panama Canal. The missiles were allegedly found buried within brown sugar shipments coming from Communist Cuba.
After being discovered carrying the weapons, the ship's captain allegedly tried to commit suicide rather than being captured. He seemingly would rather kill himself than face punishment for the illegal transport in Panama or from failure via Kim Jong Un, the dictator of North Korea.
As the North Korean missiles on the ships were being removed, violence erupted on the ships between law officers and the crew of over 35 people.

Tea Party circles in East Tennessee might seem an unlikely environment for launching a Muslim organization. Will Coley, 31, a Tennessee native, Muslim convert and Tea Party activist, is behind a one-person Muslim outreach project to Tea Party conservatives and libertarians that grew into a Facebook group countering'Islamophobia' (justified anti-Muslim sentiment) on the Right.

Illume Magazine The message: Islam is compatible with an anti-big government or libertarian philosophy. They do not denounce sharia, but defend it within a libertarian framework. "Our approach is different," says Coley. "We use principles within sharia like maqasid (primary goals) to show their connection with John Locke's principles of life, liberty and property."

Coley, whose group Muslims For Liberty, claims this strategy makes an impact. "I have noticed everywhere we go it is about the same," says Coley. "We talk to 50 people. The five to six that pointed the group in an anti-Islam direction still hate us, but the rest start thinking, researching."
Muslims for Liberty is currently focused on confronting the most vociferous anti Muslim voices in America, like Pam Geller, Zuhdi Jasser, Robert Spencer and others, and demanding that they prove what they claim. Coley says:

As the Senate prepares for confirmation hearings Wednesday to decide whether Samantha Power will be the next U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, there are some controversial criticisms of America from her past that may be called into question.
Power, a former journalist turned political activist, once connected some of the tactics in the U.S. war on terror to French military support for the Hutu militia, which killed 800,000 people in the Rwandan genocide. She also has called Americans "stingy on foreign aid," declared that the U.S. should apologize for slavery, and even made indirect references comparing U.S. involvement in the world to that of Nazi Germany.

A Bill has finally been introduced, H.R. 410, Restore the Constitution Act of 2013 (http://beta.congress.gov/bill/113th-congress/house-bill/410/text?q=H.R.%20410), which strikes down the President's Executive Orders which trample the Constitution by nullifying the authority of Congress and the Second Amendment. The President should not be allowed by Congress to grant himself kingship via Executive Orders. Congress is meant to be the will of the people under the protection of the Constitution and all its Amendments. ALL Presidents and members of Congress take an oath of office to "Preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States." To break that oath is to be outside the scope of one's office and to be liable to criminal prosecution. President Obama campaigned on the promise of "fundamental change," but subverting the authority of the Constitution to slowly install a Shariah-compliant, Socialist/Communist government is beyond the scope of his office. Unfortunately, the one to investigate and prosecute the President, United States Attorney General Eric Holder, is complicit in President Obama's agenda and will not be doing his job. It is up to Congress to restore the Constitution as the supreme law of the land and to investigate, prosecute, and impeach President Obama for his treasonous actions. This Bill needs to be expanded to include the entire Constitution and ALL Amendments to the Constitution to ensure no further actions or future presidents attempt what President Obama is doing. Initial support is not enough, this Bill needs to be expanded and passed into law quickly in order to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States. |

The other side is relentless in their organizing against us. If we are more organized and collaborate, we will be stronger in our battle to defend and preserve our RKBA in Pennsylvania and across America. Recently we have had our AG Kane revoke the reciprocity with FL permits, seen the stalling of HB357 Federal Nullification bill, and various attacks by Bloomberg financed anti-gun groups pushing for gun control legislation. There is an alarming prospect of having a liberal anti-gun Governor for the next term. We need to join forces now! This will be a fun event for the family. Gifford Pinchot State Park is located centrally and is just south of Harrisburg with easy access from the PA Turnpike. Two pavilions are reserved and there will be horseshoes and baseball (bring your own equipment). We will have hamburgers, hot dogs and drinks for those who sign up. Concerned Gun Owners of Bucks Co (CGOBC) was a grassroots group quickly formed in the wake of renewed calls for infringement on our guaranteed Civil Liberty to bear arms in defense of our persons under the PA and Federal Constitutions. There was such intense response and passion from all walks of
life and we found the growing pains rapid.
In the face of very well funded and organized opposition from out of state anti-liberty groups we ultimately decided together that the best course of action was going around that wall instead of over it, and to that end we decided to morph into 2 specialized groups with the same end goal of preserving our inherent rights. One would focus solely on legislative action tactics and outreach aimed at a target audience (PA4SP) and the other on public awareness events and energizing the core (CGOPA), and they would both work together as one towards the ultimate goal of stopping statist infringement on our rights.
While CGOBC was always neutral on open carry at events, PA4SP feels that it is not the best tool for their approach. CGOPA on the other hand will utilize it at public events to demonstrate to the public that firearms are merely inanimate tools and are more often used to deter crime merely by their presence.
Our rallies are held to gather the support of local gun owners to strengthen our cause. Pennsylvanian's right to open carry is recognized by our state government and our state constitution. It is not our prerogative to dictate law, or tell Pennsylvanians they cannot exercise their rights. We are a firearms rights organization; we support not some of those rights, but all of them.

I want to remind all of you that our PA Unite The Fight Event at Gifford Pinchot State Park(click on the events tab above) is just 14 days away. We are looking for a little help to pull this off from our members. We are looking for any groups or individuals who can assist with the necessary provisions (for a couple hundred people) for the event. For instance Concerned Gun Owners of Pennsylvania will be providing Hot Dogs and Hamburgers for that day. We will still need some help with the list below.

- A couple of larger portable grills to supplement the ones provided

This is short notice for such a major event, but it has to be done.
You see, Special Operations Speaks http://www.specialoperationsspeaks.com/ has just been asked by Congressman Steve Stockman to mount an event to put pressure on the House of Representatives (and especially Speaker Boehner!) to form a select committee to investigate the tragedy that was Benghazi.
As a first step toward causing Congress to get serious about assigning responsibility for what happened at Benghazi, we are organizing a rally at Cong. Stockman's request that will be held on the steps of the US Capitol at noon, Tuesday, July 23, 2013. That rally will hear words from a number of patriots, including Cong. Stockman and Cong. Louie Gohmert, both of whom have been very supportive of our efforts to answer Hillary Clinton's heartless answer to a Senator's question about the men who died at Benghazi: "What difference does it make?"
Be with us next week as we demonstrate to Hillary and others like her "what difference it makes." Bring yourself, a carload, or a busload, but be there.
Thousands of you showed up to protect the Vietnam Wall in 2007; please help us demonstrate that we will not tolerate the murder-by-neglect of four of America's finest on September 12, 2012. Please help us send a message to our nation's leaders that we demand full accountability for this national crime.

Our monthly meetings have officially been moved to the Jeffersonville Golf Club because its a bigger and better location. We are rapidly growing thanks to our dedicated members and friends. Our next meeting is on Tuesday, July 30th and after that our regular meetings will now fall on the 3rd Tuesdays of each month at 7PM. We hope you can make it!
Meeting Topic: The Rise of the Police-State
America is rapidly devolving into the oppressive police-state that our Founding Fathers warned us about. In recent years, politicians have passed laws that destroy and erode our constitutional rights like the N.D.A.A. and The Patriot Act. Recently, Homeland Security, federal government agencies, and local police departments have widely adopted military tactics, military equipment (armored personnel carriers, flash-bang grenades) - and, sometimes, the mindset of military conquerors rather than domestic peacekeepers, and they say its all in the name of "safety" to promote a "global society".
The military industrial complex is transforming our once free country into a giant prison camp. A broke and indoctrinated society constructed in the name of fighting terrorism, was actually built to enslave the American people by making them give up their liberties in the name of security, (Benjamin Franklin warned us about that). Body scanners, sound cannons, citizen spies, staged terror, and cameras on every street corner -- it's only the beginning of the U.N. & globalist's hellish plan.
THE AGENDA:
- Steve Piotrowski and Jackie Piotrowski will give an eye-opening presentation on the police-state, and the erosion of liberties that our government has taken away from us in the name of "safety". We will also speak about what you can do, and current PA. legislation that we can support to help us all fight Big Government and protect citizens of their Constitutional and god-given rights.
- Darren Wolfe, CFL guest speaker of the year, and (author of The International Libertarian) will also give a Philosophy presentation on the police-state and why the founding fathers warned us against this, and what we can do.
- We are also hoping to get Senator Folmer to come speak. He introduced a bill that will end the N.D.A.A. in PA and make it a crime for any government official to enforce it. Hopefully we can get him to attend and talk about it, or even others that helped draft the bill.
- We will also have a round table of open discussion... Your voice matters!

WHAT IS COMMON CORE?Common Core, or the Common Core State Standards Initative (CCSSI), as it is known at the State and Federal level, is a set of national education standards that will fulfill the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act, through a waiver system. (The NCLB Act was put into place by Congress in 2001 and signed into law by President George W. Bush). Many states were failing to meet the NCLB Act requirements and, therefore, wanted something to replace NCLB.Common Core is part of the UN's plan for complete federal control over our education systems and the "Dumbing-down" of America. Common Core State Standards Initiative (CCSSI) are not state standards in the first place, and are nothing more then further federalization of our state education systems. COMMON CORE IS A TROJAN HORSE AND TIED TO THE UNITED NATIONS (UN)If you cannot see that Common Core is tied to the United Nations you have not done your homework! The major funder of the Common Core Movement is the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation which has pledged $60 million dollars to this effort. Bill and Melinda Gates are tied to UN through-and-through and have spent money in America and overseas for UN programs in Africa and all over the world for decades. From the Conservative Teachers of American organization, they wrote an article entitled: "Common Core Standards and the Federalization of Education." In this article we read: "Many are concerned that the Common Core Standards, once successfully implemented, will provide unfettered access of our educational system by the United Nations. Some textbooks and curricula for our public schools have already been written by the [United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization] UNESCO and the International Baccalaureate program, that is currently in many school districts, across the United States. Grabbing additional access is a natural next step. Once they write the curricula, they must have authority to develop all testing tools."
The UN involvement in the American educational system has already been facilitated by treaties signed by American presidents from both parties. Those documents include but are not limited to: Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Treaty on the Rights of the Child, Civic Education: Classroom Connections, and Agenda 21. The US Partnership for Education for Sustainable Development (since 2003), is the nexus of the UNA-USA and Global Leadership Coalition at the Department of Education, which altogether leverages the UN Decade on Education for Sustainable Development 2005-2014. UNESCO, the lead agency of the Decade, defines Education for Sustainable Development as "education for everyone everywhere" for the "lifelong learning" of "present and future generations". The UNA-USA sponsors Model UN across America and tailors its Global Classrooms curricula to whichever setting the kids happen to be participating. Children are unknowingly trained to respond with prescribed consensus to the situations, simulations and stimulation's of the particular activity (Delphi Technique). Global Kids is the CFR arm of Connect All Schools Consortium, a new Department of Education network, led by Independent Sector and The White House via United Planet Partners. Global Kids is preparing children for Agenda 21. The White House, NSA and CIA now have website divisions aimed at kids. The Public Education Network is a national association funded by Independent Sector donors: plus Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, the Carnegie Corporation of New York and the Department of Education "Funders" of the Rockefeller Foundation-backed International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLEI), "Members" of the the Sustainability Consortium, backed by the EPA and BSR (Rockefeller Foundation, Rockefeller Brothers Fund, State Department) and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation-backed International City/County Management Association (ICMA): Center for Sustainable Communities (an ICLEI "Partner") are "partnered" with local schools and governments. From the Partnership for 21st Century Skills aligning the Common Core State Standards with "professional development" content for teachers and principals and Lego Robotics curricula for students (Carnegie Mellon/Lego Education); to software curricula through websites like: cyberschoolbus.un.org, icivics.org, atomiclearning.com, renlearn.org, brainpop.com and ttl4.sunburst.com; to the weekly deliveries of Time for Kids magazine and textbook curricula into classrooms; kids are programmed with UN-defined values. State Governors administer Federal funds to "Community-Oriented Policing" systems like Crime Stoppers (The UN, FBI and other law enforcement and corporate partners administer Crime Stoppers International), the local student-equivalent of the Department of Homeland Security's' "See Something, Say Something" campaign; whereby children see hand-drawn posters of child characters on school walls displaying "Eyes Looking", "Ears Listening", "Mouth Reporting" with a hotline to call. Presidents Bush and Obama have personally followed the George H. W. Bush/Clinton trail of the Agenda 21/ Sustainable America megabanks-maze in "bipartisan" fashion. UNESCO PLEDGES SUPPORT OF COMMON COREFrom UNESCO's document "The Vision of Education Reform in the United States" it states: "My department has been pleased to partner with the US Agency for International Development to help ensure that our best domestic practices are shared world-wide. The United States provides over a billion dollars annually to partner countries working on educational reform. Our goal for the coming year will be to work closely with global partners, including UNESCO, to promote qualitative improvements and system strengthening....Ultimately, education is the great equalizer. It is the one force that can consistently overcome differences in background, culture, and privilege." THE UN'S AGENDA 21- COMMON CORE IMPLEMENTER!In the United Nations Agenda 21 (Guide for the 21st Century), Chapters #25 and #36 specifically talk about education of our children: Principle #25- "Children and Youth in Sustainable Development." In the "Activites 25.9.d" it states: "Ensure access for all youth to all types of education, wherever appropriate, providing alternative learning structures, ensure that education reflects the economic and social needs of youth and incorporates the concepts of environmental training, implementing innovative methods aimed at increasing practical skills, such as environmental scouting." Principle #36- "Promoting Education, Public Awareness and Training." In the Activities Section of this document in "36.5.g" we read: "Within two years the United Nations system should undertake a comprehensive review of its educational programmes, encompassing training and public awareness, to reassess priorites and reallocae resources. The UNESCO/UNEP International Environmental Education Programme should, in cooperation with the appropriate bodies of the United Nations system, Governments, non-governmental organizations and others, establish a porgramme within two years to integrate the decisions of the Conference into the existing United Nations framework adapted to the need of the educators at different levels and circumstances. Regional organizations and national authorities should be encouraged to elaborate similar parallel programmes and opportunies by conducting an analysis of how to mobilize different sectors of the population in order to assess and address their environmental and development education needs." In the Activities Section of this document in "36.5 h" we read: "There is a need to strengthen, within five years, information exchange by enhancing technologies and capacities necessary to promote environment and development education and public awareness. Countries should cooperate with each other and with the various social sectors and population groups to prepare educational tools that include regional environment and development issues and initiatives, using learning materials and resources suited to their own requirements." Sounds just like PARCC and SLDS. The proponents of Common Core say that the standards ARE state led because they were developed by The National Governors' Association.

They are clearly more concerned with workers for the manufacturing. They seem to have concerns that we have students who can't read well enough (non-English speaking especially) to function in the manufacturing plants, and then on the other end of the spectrum... too many with higher ed degrees who don't WANT to work in the manufacturing. So... what to do about all this? Hummm.... standards! Make sure they read well enough to function as the industrial workers, but not so well that they don't want to!!! This is the John D. Rockefeller goal of the early 20th century when he started pushing for compulsory government schooling and funding the building of government schools.

DATA COLLECTING: Senator Burr at the 1:00:00 mark reveals information about ADDITIONAL data points that this legislation will add to the data mining. He says that his count is now 500 data points. TEACHER EVALUATIONS: Senator Alexander at 2:00:00 mark discusses his amendment to end federally mandated school and teacher evaluations. He says states had a "gun to their head" to adopt the teacher evaluations because they were desperate for NCLB waivers. He makes the charge that the Harkin bill creates a "NATIONAL SCHOOL BOARD." The Gates Foundation involvement is mentioned frequently. Harkin says over and over "this is voluntary." If states don't want to implement the programs in the bill we just don't accept the money!" More strong evidence that our states need to "just say no" to all federal education dollars. Sustainable Development is code for a policy designed to transform human society, essentially eliminating individual life decisions and replacing them with top - down, one-size-fits-all government control. In steady fashion, the agenda for this new policy, designed at the international level, is put into place piece by piece with a new government council here, and new regulation there, each designed to appear as a "local" development program. Like the proverbial frog in the slowly boiling pot, many Americans fail to notice the rise in government heat. The main course of action to impose the new agenda is through the pretense of environmental protection; "Sorry about your rights, but if we don't save the planet, then we will all perish!" And so with the devastation of a thousand pin pricks, America and its form or government is being changed through the creation of non-elected boards, councils and regional governments, designed to enforce the new regulations and "assure that we protect the environment."
The pin pricks come disguised as such issues as controls on community development; controls on use of private property; controls on use of open space; creation of development areas, many times under the excuse of historic preservation; communities designed on the blue print of pack and stack housing; making it harder to drive as roads are narrowed, even forcing cars to share the road with bicycles; the enforcement of expensive mass transit boondoggle projects; and the never ending spending spree on inefficient, unworkable alternative energy, such as wind and solar power.
In fact, control of energy and water are the two most effective tools in the enforcement of the Sustainable Development agenda. Without energy and water, human society stops. Using strict controls on how, or even if, energy and water can be used provides government with the power to dictate every aspect of society.

Mandatory Biometric Enrollment Lawsuit - UPDATE (fingerprinting, facial recognition, iris scan, DNA, etc.) By Mark Lerner: Co-Founder Constitutional Alliance
If you value liberty and understand how dangerous government mandated biometric ID is to our freedom, you need to read and understand every word of what I am writing about today. Something very important is happening so stay with me. Over the years, the Constitutional Alliance has consistently fought against mandatory biometric ID and for the right of all citizens to be free of it. Government mandated biometric ID is the lynchpin of the modern surveillance society. The amount of control this system gives government over individuals is an anathema to a free society and we oppose it being imposed on anyone - period. You cannot reconcile a free society with a surveillance society. The founders of this country called religious freedom "the first freedom" because it is a precondition for other important rights.. Try to imagine the value of freedom of speech, or freedom of association without religious freedom and you will quickly see why religious freedom, also referred to as 'freedom of conscience' is so important. Here is the Big News This past week, 19 June 2013, a Motion for Summary Judgment was filed in Kaye Beach's lawsuit in the state of Oklahoma (You can read it here). This is a pre-trial motion that presents the undisputed facts of her case and makes the strongest assertion based on those facts, that her rights are being violated. The Motion for Summary Judgment asks the Judge, based on these undisputed facts, to rule in her favor. Kaye fully expects a favorable ruling on this Motion but in the event that this doesn't happen, her lawsuit will continue on. You need only to read the first 30 pages of the Motion to understand the arguments Kaye and her attorneys have made. If you choose to read further you can read about the answers the Department of Public Safety (the department that oversees the issuance of driver's licenses) gave to Kaye's "Discovery Motion". Kaye Beach's lawsuit, is the only substantial challenge to government mandated biometric ID, to my knowledge, that exists anywhere in our country. Here is a brief recap of the issue and basis for Kaye's legal challenge; Kaye is opposed to mandatory biometric identification which is required of her if she wishes to have a state issued driver's license or ID card. As we know, the ability to drive a vehicle and also banking, many financial transactions, as well as a host of other necessary daily activities are dependent upon having a government issued photo ID most commonly presented in the form of state driver's license or ID card. Try to go without one and you will soon find (like Kaye has!) that not having a valid ID is no small matter. In September, 2011 Kaye filed a lawsuit against the state of Oklahoma for the unwarranted collection of her biometrics and for violating her religious freedom, both of which are protected under Oklahoma law. We must stop the call for a Constitutional Convention!
Article V of the Constitution:
- Gives NO guidelines for how to conduct a Con Con.
- NO rules on how delegates will be eligible or selected
- States have NO Guarantees they will even be represented
- Con Con could result in a COMPLETE CHANGE of our way of government
- There simply are NO controls over the delegates once selected.
We must stop the call for a Constitutional Convention!

I am becoming more alarmed by the day. Because the drive to force a Constitutional Convention (Con Con) is growing stronger. This is an outright lie. A Con Con can not be controlled and there can be no guarantee that delegates will do anything they are instructed to do. By calling a Con Con our precious Constitution will be placed on an operating table and cut to ribbons. Nothing is more dangerous to our Republic. But the movement for a Constitutional Convention is gaining strength. Conservatives are being targeted because of our love of the Constitution and our frustration over how it is being ignored by those leading our government. The effort is misguided, dangerous and just plan wrong. We must stop this movement now. Urgent: I have enclosed a petition to your state's Governor asking him/her not to sign on to the Con Con movement. You and I must deliver thousands of these petitions to every single Governor as fast as we can. They must know that Americans across the nation do not support this certain destruction of our Constitution. Please sign your petition and we will email it immediately to your state governor. What most Americans expect is to have our borders secure, enforcement of the existing laws within the interior, meaningful punishment of employers who hire illegally and removal of incentives such as birthright citizenships and public school enrollments without status verifications. We must also address the fact that we're soft on criminals caught in crimes and aren't deported. No other country would allow this to continue. 40% of them entered the country legally and overstayed their visas. Yet there's still no reliable method to verify if Visa overstays have left the country. Another incentive that must be addressed is the birthright citizenship program that has resulted in millions of children and parents receiving instant rights and benefits. Some have called them "GPS babies" and this certainly cannot be what the authors of the 14th Amendment intended to occur. Public housing and other benefits are provided for the illegal parents through their 'anchor children' while citizens are turned away because of limited resources. This antiquated program must end. Government agencies and officials at all levels must address the costs associated with this kind of abuse. Past mistakes have been made in attempts to fix illegal immigration and our communities can no longer afford these kinds of mistakes.

1. Republicans Surrender
Senate Republicans, led by Mitch McConnell, have given up the filibuster for executive nominations. Under a deal struck, the Democrats will not deploy the nuclear option, but the Republicans will let the President fill a number of positions the GOP has been blocking. Among the positions will be the ever important National Labor Relations Board, which has pursued a disastrous anti-free market agenda.
As Senator Ted Cruz noted, the GOP preserved the right to surrender in the future. What he means is that the GOP folded, but kept the appearance of still having a filibuster for executive nominations in place.

2. Senate Republicans Cave: Filibuster 'Compromise' Keeps NLRB Firmly Under Union Control
Well, the fix is in-and, frankly, it looks as though Senate Republicans have caved in on everything-and have little to show for it.
In their effort to "save" the filibuster, according to Politico, Senators John McCain (RINO-AZ) and Chuck Schumer (D-NY) brokered a deal that gives Democrats nearly everything* they wanted.

3. George Zimmerman: Angela Corey's Racial Peace Offering
There are many unanswered questions in the handling of the persecution of George Zimmerman by the State of Florida but two of the salient questions are why was Angela Corey, who is noted for her intemperate personality, selected to prosecute the case and why Angela Corey dismissed an impaneled grand jury to wildly overcharge George Zimmerman with second degree murder on her own volition?

4. Why Does the AARP Hate Seniors?
We know the AARP is typically left-leaning and sided with the Obama Administration on Obamacare and other policies that will wind up hurting seniors.
But now it seems they're siding with the far-left environmental movement to put people out of work and raise energy prices - something that has a direct effect on seniors with fixed incomes.
The AARP and Sierra Club worked together to stall nuclear energy legislation in Iowa. They claimed the legislation would hurt seniors when, in reality, the legislation would have incentivized low cost nuclear energy production in Iowa.
The AARP joined with the Sierra Club in Mississippi too. The issue was different, but the operation was the same. The environmental group couldn't get its way so it brought in the AARP to scare seniors, who in turn called legislators.
They did it in New York and North Carolina and Virginia among others. Each time, as the Sierra Club fell behind in its goals, it picked up the blue hair phone, called the AARP, and had them scare the mess out of seniors.

5. There Are No Indispensable Men
There are no indispensable men, but go to Washington and everyone treats everyone else as indispensable.
Mitch McConnell and John Boehner have been in the United States Congress since 1985. In that time the national debt has grown from $1,823,103,000,000.00 to $16,066,241,407,385.89. In that time the GOP went from being the part of small government to the party of slightly smaller than the Democrats. No Child Left Behind, Medicare Part D, TARP, the General Motors bailout, and so much more happened on their watch.
But they remain and voters who vote party and not person keep supporting them. But they are not indispensable. No man is indispensable. The longer one stays in Washington though, the more desperate one becomes to stay in Washington. They collaborate in a system of arrangements whereby they get more power and more influence. Their staff leaves to K Street creating a feedback loop. They and their Democratic counterparts reward friends and steer policy not toward ideas and ideology, but toward power with themselves in the center of it.
No man is indispensable. Mike Enzi (R-WY) is right there with them.
Mike Enzi is a fine Republican, but he is not putting points on the board for conservatives. We need more like Ted Cruz and less like . . . well . . . Mike Enzi. The Administration's Obamacare Denial

Obamacare was supposed to go so well, we were told.
The mandates. The long-term care insurance. The Medicaid expansion. All going swimmingly, right?
Only in the minds of Harry Reid and the bureaucrats at Health and Human Services (HHS).
Despite a host of delays, legal challenges, and complete implementation failures, the Senate Majority Leader says "Obamacare has been wonderful for America." The Administration says it's simply implementing the law "in a careful, thoughtful manner."
And right after the Administration announced it was delaying Obamacare's employer mandate-one of its main provisions-HHS released a video saying Obamacare is "ON SCHEDULE."
The House is voting today on whether to put the employer mandate delay into law and whether to delay the individual mandate as well, which would require every American to purchase government-approved health insurance. It, like the employer mandate, was supposed to take effect on January 1, 2014.
Yes, it would seem Obamacare is just falling apart. And the Administration is in denial.

HHS is particularly excited that the health insurance exchange is "on schedule" to open October 1-in about 11 weeks. But with half the states deferring to the federal government to set up the exchange for them, and Obamacare's track record thus far, what will happen?
As Heritage's Chris Jacobs noted, "a Government Accountability Office report released last month noted that 'critical' activities to create a federal exchange have not been completed, and the missed deadlines 'suggest a potential for challenges going forward.'"
Even one of the law's authors, Democratic Senator Max Baucus (MT), has said Obamacare has turned into a "train wreck." So why should Congress keep throwing our hard-earned dollars after it?
Congress can't unilaterally repeal Obamacare, but the Constitution grants lawmakers the ultimate power of the purse. If Congress chooses not to fund Obamacare activities for the upcoming fiscal year, the Obama Administration cannot act to implement the law. Defunding Obamacare would also prevent the application of the law's new regulations and 18 tax increases.
If we really want to be "careful" and "thoughtful" about what's best for Americans, Congress should expose the Administration's unworkable plans.

Americans Want Nothing to Do With Egypt
United Technologies/National Journal Congressional Connection Poll shows huge majority rejecting U.S. involvement, with almost no one considering Egypt a friend.

Americans have reached a near-unanimous verdict about what the United States should do with Egypt: Stay away.
A strong majority of U.S. adults think America should steer clear of Egypt after the military deposed President Mohamed Morsi, according to a
United Technologies/National Journal Congressional Connection Poll
.Most people are unsure if the Middle Eastern nation is a friend or foe, the survey found, an ambiguity that at least partially explains why Americans are reluctant to help the country as it writhes with violence. Even measures that fall well short of direct involvement, like offering greater financial assistance, fail to garner even meager support.
The findings are a warning to President Obama, should he consider stepping up the country's involvement there. And it's yet another reminder that after a decade-plus of wars, the American public remains deeply skeptical of any involvement, economically or militarily, abroad.

Afghanistan: Zero Troops Should Not Be an Option By Lisa Curtis
The Obama Administration is considering leaving no U.S. troops behind in Afghanistan after it ends its combat mission there in 2014. This would undermine U.S. security interests, as it would pave the way for the Taliban to regain influence in Afghanistan and cripple the U.S. ability to conduct counterterrorism missions in the region.
President Obama instead should commit the U.S. to maintaining a robust troop presence (at least 15,000-20,000) in Afghanistan after 2014 in order to train and advise the Afghan troops and conduct counterterrorism missions as necessary. The U.S. should also remain diplomatically, politically, and financially engaged in Afghanistan in order to sustain the gains made over the past decade and ensure that the country does not again serve as a sanctuary for international terrorists intent on attacking the U.S.

Tucson schools taking MB-tainted money! It's bad enough that countless colleges and universities have accepted hundreds of millions-perhaps billions-in grants from Saudi entities. It's bad enough that the textbooks used in public schools are typically laced with egregious errors, omissions, and outright historical falsehoods on the subject of Islam. Now we learn that, according to multiple media sources, the Tucson public schools are going to accept nearly a half million dollars from the Qatar Foundation, which the Daily Caller story below reports has "strong ties to the Muslim Brotherhood."

A few years ago a congressional staffer told Brigitte Gabriel and Guy Rodgers (ACT! for America Executive Director) about a college that had been accepting Saudi money for years. And then one day the college was told that, if they wanted to keep getting the money, they had to make changes to their Mideast Studies department to satisfy their Saudi benefactors. We're not saying the Qatar Foundation will make that kind of demand on the Tucson schools. But wisdom dictates that colleges, universities, and now K-12 school districts, should investigate and understand who's behind the money and what their agenda is-and act accordingly. How does it make any sense to be beholden to the Muslim Brotherhood?
Tucson schools to take $465,000 from Arab charity with Muslim Brotherhood ties

Last week, the governing board of the Tucson Unified School District asked the school board to accept a $465,000 curriculum grant from the Qatar Foundation International, a global philanthropic organization with strong ties to the Muslim Brotherhood, the parent organization of the terrorist group Hamas.
The grant money is intended to implement "innovative curricula and teaching materials to be used in any Arabic language classroom," reports the Arizona Daily Independent.
Two Tucson schools, Safford K-8 Magnet School and Cholla High Magnet School, will be the recipients of the terror-infested cash, according to Tucson News Now.

Black Teens Beat WI Man, Stating 'This Is For Trayvon' |

On Sunday, a 34-year-old Wisconsin man received a beating by several black teens. According to Christopher Simpson, the victim, and another witness present at the scene, Simpson was attacked at approximately 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, punched in the back of the head, and then punched and kicked when he fell to the ground. White said that one of the black teens shouted at him, "This is for Trayvon Martin." Another witness confirmed White's story. The beating only stopped when a black passerby intervened.

The prosecution's "star-witness" in the George Zimmerman murder trial, Rachel Jeantel, made her first public appearance since testifying earlier this month about the death of Trayvon Martin. Marissa Alexander had never been arrested before she fired a bullet at a wall in 2010. She did this when she felt her estranged husband was threatening her. Ms. Alexander described the move as a "warning shot." Prior to the incident, she filed a restraining order against her husband. Nobody was hurt as a result of the shot, but in May a northeast Florida judge was bound by state law to sentence her to 20 years in prison. Senate approves Consumer bureau chief in 71-29 vote By Alexander Bolton
The Senate on Tuesday morning voted to advance the nomination of Richard Cordray to serve as director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, dodging a messy showdown over the filibuster rule.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) threatened to trigger the so-called nuclear option to move Cordray if Republicans blocked him. The controversial tactic would have involved stripping Republicans of the power to filibuster executive branch nominees by changing the rules through a simple majority vote.
The Senate voted 71 to 29 to move Cordray a crucial step closer to confirmation. A final up-or-down vote, which is widely expected to succeed, will take place later Tuesday.

An Orlando lawyer said he does not believe George Zimmerman's shooting of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin was racially motivated.
CNN analyst Mark NeJame pointed to a black-and-white picture of a family of tree, including a dark-skinned man he claims was Zimmerman's great-grandfather.
He also identified a woman pictured standing above the man as Zimmerman's grandmother, and a small child in the man's arms as Zimmerman's mother.
Speaking to News 13 Friday, NeJame said the photo was just one piece among many that led him to change his mind about whether Zimmerman was racially profiling Trayvon Martin.
"If President Obama says his son would have looked like Trayvon Martin, then if you look at these pictures, his grandparents and great-grandparents would have looked like George Zimmerman's grandparents and great-grandparents," NeJame said during an appearance Thursday on CNN's "Piers Morgan Tonight."

Tuesday, July 16, 2013 To: Friends & Supporters From: Gary L. Bauer Will Holder Persecute George Zimmerman? The Obama Administration is coming under increasing pressure from left-wing groups to prosecute George Zimmerman on federal hate crimes charges or civil rights violations. But even the Washington Post acknowledges that such charges are unlikely. It is difficult to see why race is such an issue in this case involving two minorities. George Zimmerman is Hispanic. He protested abuses by the Sanford Police Department. The FBI interviewed more than 30 people last year and determined Zimmerman was not racially biased. Enough already! Attorney General Eric Holder spoke yesterday to members of the Delta Sigma Theta sorority. During his remarks, Holder reminded the audience that the Justice Department had "opened an investigation into the [Zimmerman case]" last year. We may learn more when the Attorney General addresses the NAACP's convention in Orlando, Florida, this afternoon. Holder also said that this case gives us the opportunity to "speak honestly about the complicated and emotionally-charged issues" involving race in America. I wish we could have a real national conversation about race. But whenever the left calls for such a discussion, it inevitably degenerates into another round of bashing non-minorities and an indictment of America's past sins. There is a lot we could legitimately discuss. For example, is racism growing among blacks? According to a recent Rasmussen poll, a plurality of blacks (31%) believe most blacks are racist, while only 24% of blacks believe most whites are racist. How does one explain that? Why is it that every major goal of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. has been reached -- from voting rights to non-discrimination in housing and employment -- yet so many minority children are falling through the cracks, educationally and economically? Why is the "gangsta" culture so prevalent in minority areas and why don't urban politicians condemn it? What is causing the massive breakdown of the black family? It can't be the legacy of slavery. As Dr. Walter Williams has rightly observed, "The welfare state has done to black Americans what slavery couldn't do, what Jim Crow couldn't do, what the harshest racism couldn't do. And that is to destroy the black family." Of course any conservation about race in America must begin with this truth: God created us all in His image and that is the basis of our equality. "All men are created equal," as the Declaration of Independence says, and are "endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." That is the basis of our dignity and worth. Just think, if we were actually teaching that in our schools! Big Labor's Big Betrayal Obamacare is a bad law. While conservatives have been warning about it for years, others are slowly coming to realize its adverse consequences. One retiring Senate Democrat said that Obamacare's implementation could be a "huge train wreck." Even the Obama Administration was forced to acknowledge the law's shortcomings when it agreed to suspend the employer mandate. But that's not all. Big Labor is feeling betrayed by Obamacare's broken promises, and that's creating some big headaches for congressional Democrats who are loath to admit that anything is wrong. In fact, Harry Reid said just days ago that Obamacare has been "wonderful for America," and Nancy Pelosi has praised it as "fabulous." Last week a trio of union bosses, including James Hoffa of the Teamsters, fired off a very blunt letter to Senate Democrat Leader Harry Reid and House Democrat Leader Nancy Pelosi demanding action. You can almost hear Tony Soprano saying, "Gee, Mr. and Mrs. Leader, that's a nice little caucus you got there. It'd be a real shame to see anything happen to it." Consider these excerpts:
"Dear Leader Reid and Leader Pelosi: "When you and the President sought our support for the Affordable Care Act (ACA), you pledged that if we liked the health plans we have now, we could keep them. Sadly, that promise is under threat. ...the ACA will shatter not only our hard-earned health benefits, but destroy the foundation of the 40 hour work week that is the backbone of the American middle class. ... "We have also been strong supporters of you. In campaign after campaign we have put boots on the ground, gone door-to-door to get out the vote, run phone banks and raised money to secure this vision. Now this vision has come back to haunt us. ... "Time is running out: Congress wrote this law; we voted for you. We have a problem; you need to fix it. The unintended consequences of the ACA are severe. Perverse incentives are already creating nightmare scenarios... "[W]e can no longer stand silent in the face of elements of the Affordable Care Act that will destroy the very health and wellbeing of our members along with millions of other hardworking Americans. ...but the law as it stands will hurt millions of Americans including the members of our respective unions. We are looking to you to make sure these changes are made."
Good luck with that! House Republicans will put legislation on the floor this week to suspend Obamacare's individual mandate, since the White House has suspended the employer mandate. But I bet Democrats will overwhelmingly vote against it, just as they have opposed every other effort to repeal or significantly reform Obamacare.

Save the Earth - Recycle the Opposition's Old Arguments on the Filibuster
Ah, filibuster debates. So predictable.
Every Republican who wants to keep the filibuster and the current rules in place, just cite the arguments of this guy:
What [the American people] don't expect is for one party - be it Republican or Democrat - to change the rules in the middle of the game so that they can make all the decisions while the other party is told to sit down and keep quiet.
The American people want less partisanship in this town, but everyone in this chamber knows that the majority chooses to end the filibuster. If they choose to change the rules and put an end to Democratic debate, then the fighting and the bitterness and the gridlock will only get worse.
We need to rise above the "ends justify the means" mentality because we're here to answer to the people - all of the people - not just the ones that are wearing our particular party label.
If the right of free and open debate is taken away from the minority party, and the millions of Americans who asked us to be their voice, I fear that the already partisan atmosphere in Washington will be poisoned to the point where no one will be able to agree on anything. That doesn't serve anyone's best interests, and it certainly isn't what the patriots who founded this democracy had in mind. We owe the people who sent us here more than that - we owe them much more.
Those words are from then-senator Barack Obama, speaking April 13, 2005.
Then again, maybe they can point to the arguments of this other guy:
The filibuster is not a scheme and it certainly isn't new. The filibuster is far from a procedural gimmick. It's part of the fabric of this institution we call the Senate. It was well-known in colonial legislatures before we became a country, and it's an integral part of our country's 214-year history. The first filibuster in the United States Congress happened in 1790. It was used by lawmakers from Virginia and South Carolina who were trying to prevent Philadelphia from hosting the first Congress.
Since then, the filibuster has been employed hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of times. It's been employed on legislative matters, it's been employed on procedural matters relating to the president's nominations for Cabinet and sub-Cabinet posts, and it's been used on judges for all those years. One scholar estimates that 20 percent of the judges nominated by presidents have fallen by the wayside, most of them as a result of filibusters. Senators have used the filibuster to stand up to popular presidents, to block legislation, and, yes, even, as I've stated, to stall executive nominees. The roots of the filibuster are found in the Constitution and in our own rules.
That, of course . . . is Senator Harry Reid of Nevada back in 2005.
Come on. We all know that any Senate majority leader with more than 50 votes but fewer than 60 votes is going to want to get rid of the filibuster, and any minority leader is going to want to keep it. Neither party has held 60 or more U.S. Senate seats since 1979. Democrats came close in the 111th Congress (the delay in Al Franken's swearing-in, and the deaths of Ted Kennedy and Robert Byrd all complicated the Democrats' effort to control 60 seats); the Republicans had 55 in the 109th Congress. For the foreseeable future, most Senate majorities will have between 50 and 60 votes.
If you're Harry Reid, the current intolerable situation means you need to hold your 53 votes together, keep Bernie Sanders of Vermont and Angus King of Maine on board, and then get five Republican senators to go along. That may not be easy, but it's hardly Mission: Impossible. Put simply, pick five out of the following: Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Mark Kirk of Illinois, Susan Collins of Maine, Jeffrey Chiesa of New Jersey, Rob Portman of Ohio, Lindsey Graham of South Carolina. As we all know, John McCain of Arizona, Marco Rubio of Florida, Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania, Lamar Alexander of Tennessee, and Orrin Hatch of Utah have been known to buck the party line, depending on the issue.
The 60-vote threshold makes sense depending upon the piece of legislation or the importance of the nominee; it's usually a bad idea to have a sweeping change rammed through, over sizeable objections, by a bare majority. Call us when the minority demands 60 votes for renaming a post office.
Don't listen to me, listen to Thomas Jefferson: "Great innovations should not be forced on a slender majority."
Or for a more modern assessment, try Daniel Patrick Moynihan:
Back in 1993, when Hillary Clinton first tried to reform the nation's health-insurance system, Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan warned about the difficulty of getting such a gargantuan bill passed: "The Senate has its own peculiar ecology," he told me. "Something like this passes with 75 votes or not at all." Moynihan was then chairman of the Finance Committee, the Senate's natural choke point for big social-engineering schemes. He was worried that the Clintons, especially the First Lady, were being stubborn, trying to jam their bill through with a bare majority rather than build a bipartisan consensus.
Of course, if you subscribe to President Calvin Coolidge's belief that "it is more important to kill bad bills than to pass good ones," the filibuster is a beautiful, noble tool.

Former City Councilmember Donna Frye along with attorneys Marco Gonzalez and Cory Briggs outlined the evidence they point to for calling for Mayor Filner to resign and claimed they're going to file a claim of sexual harassment with the city.
At a news conference downtown, Frye relayed the stories from two constituents describing unwanted sexual advancement. One woman described what happened after a meeting with the mayor, claiming, "Immediately after asking if he could kiss me, Mayor Filner grabbed me and kissed me" according to Frye.
The second constituent claimed that after meeting Mayor Filner for a breakfast meeting to discuss issues, the mayor suddenly grabbed her and kissed her on the sidewalk. "Jamming his tongue down her throat," Frye alleged.
The constituent went on to allege that Filner "quickly had his hand on the inside of her bra," Frye claimed.
Frye said the woman felt in order to be heard by the mayor she would have to accept the unwanted sexual advances.
"Bob Filner is tragically unsafe for any woman to approach," Frye said.
No, really, he's an San Diego mayor Bob Filner's former fiancée said she recently broke off their engagement because he was verbally abusive toward her and blatantly sent sexually explicit text messages to other women, KPBS reported.
Bronwyn Ingram, 48, also believes the 70-year-old mayor, who was elected in November, should resign, according to a statement Ingram provided to KPBS .
Isn't it nice when you know the guy you backed was the better man?

Can Ken Raise Enough Cash?
We all more or less knew that Virginia's Republican gubernatorial candidate Ken Cuccinelli was going to get outspent by Greatest Political Fundraiser of All Time Terry McAuliffe, but just how bad will it get?
Looking pretty bad right now:
Virginia's Democratic gubernatorial candidate, Terry McAuliffe, outraised his Republican challenger Ken Cuccinelli in June, and McAuliffe's campaign has more than twice as much money in the bank.
McAuliffe, a former national Democratic Party chief who cultivated a reputation as a talented fundraiser, collected $1.9 million in June, according to a release from his campaign on Monday afternoon. McAuliffe reported having just over $6 million in cash on hand at the end of last month.
Cuccinelli, Virginia's conservative attorney general, raised $1.1 million last month. He had $2.7 million in the bank through the end of June.
Of course, life is not all wine and roses for McAuliffe. America Rising finds him claiming he doesn't know anything about a company called "Leaf Green Energy" . . . a company listed as a partner/affiliate of McAuliffe's company, Capital Management International. Leaf Green Energy matters because, as Will Allen reported, the company is "headquartered in a Cayman Islands building long derided as a tax shelter by President Barack Obama and other prominent Democrats."
The McAuliffe campaign keeps insisting there's no connection between McAuliffe and Leaf Green Energy, but the Virginia State Corporation Commission names McAuliffe as the Registered Agent for Capital Management International (CMI), and it lists his home address in McLean, Va., as the principal office of CMI.

The 911 dispatcher who spoke to Zimmerman on the fatal night didn't tell him to stay in his car. Zimmerman said he was following a suspicious person, and the dispatcher told him, "We don't need you do to that." Chief prosecutor Bernie de la Rionda conceded in his closing argument that these words were ambiguous. De la Rionda also acknowledged, based on witness and forensic evidence that both men "were scraping and rolling and fighting out there." He pointed out that the wounds, blood evidence, and DNA didn't match Zimmerman's story of being thoroughly restrained and pummeled throughout the fight. But the evidence didn't fit the portrait of Martin as a sweet-tempered child, either. And the notion that Zimmerman hunted down Martin to accost him made no sense. Zimmerman knew the police were on the way. They arrived only a minute or so after the gunshot. The fight happened in a public area surrounded by townhouses at close range. It was hardly the place or time to start shooting.
That doesn't make Zimmerman a hero. It just makes him a reckless fool instead of a murderer. In a post-verdict press conference, his lawyer, Mark O'Mara, claimed that "the evidence supported that George Zimmerman did nothing wrong," that "the jury decided that he acted properly in self-defense," and that Zimmerman "was never guilty of anything except protecting himself in self-defense. I'm glad that the jury saw it that way." That's complete BS. The only thing the jury decided was that there was reasonable doubt as to whether Zimmerman had committed second-degree murder or manslaughter....
In court, evidence and scrutiny have exposed... difficult, complicated truths. But outside the court, ideologues are ignoring them. They're oversimplifying a tragedy that was caused by oversimplification. Martin has become Emmett Till. New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg is using the verdict to attack Florida's "Stand Your Ground" law, which wasn't invoked in this case. The grievance industrial complex is pushing the Department of Justice to prosecute Zimmerman for bias-motivated killing, based on evidence that didn't even support a conviction for unpremeditated killing. Zimmerman's lawyers have teamed up with members of the Congressional Black Caucus, inadvertently, to promote the false message that Zimmerman's acquittal means our society thinks everything he did was OK.
It wasn't OK. It was stupid and dangerous. It led to the unnecessary death of an innocent young man. It happened because two people-their minds clouded by stereotypes that went well beyond race-assumed the worst about one another and acted in haste. If you want to prevent the next Trayvon Martin tragedy, learn from their mistakes. Don't paint the world in black and white. Don't declare the whole justice system racist, or blame every gun death on guns, or confuse acquittal with vindication. And the next time you see somebody who looks like a punk or a pervert, hold your fire.

Last week we got the agonizing news that a defenseless White man who had been beaten severely by a gang of six Black teenagers succumbed to his injuries and died. He was a living breathing person just as you and I. He was 46 year old Pat Mahaney. He was walking on a public street not bothering anyone. His cowardly attackers charged at him from behind and all SIX of them beat him. After the cowardly attack Mr. Mahaney was so traumatized he was afraid to go out of his home. He lived for another year but collapsed first psychologically than physically under the weight of living with his injuries and caring for his elderly mother.

National Review has put together a petition to Speaker Boehner expressing opposition to the Senate immigration reform bill.
The petition reads:
Dear Speaker Boehner,
We call upon you to kill the Gang of Eight immigration bill, and more specifically, to reject a conference with the Senate on immigration legislation:
Whereas, the Gang of Eight's bill does not solve the illegal-immigration problem, and instead leaves loopholes and exceptions in current law and does not truly secure our borders;
Whereas, in ten years, we will be dealing with this issue again according to the CBO, creating a new population of illegal immigrants;
Whereas, the Senate legislation will create a flood of low-skilled workers who will depress the wages of native workers and immigrants already here;
Whereas, there is no urgency to pass this legislation and the process in the Senate was scandalously rushed and chaotic at the end;
Therefore, we, the undersigned, call upon you to kill the Senate's Gang of Eight immigration bill and make sure it doesn't come to the House Floor in any form.

Wages of Obamacare

Obama administration flack Jay Carney denies that some employers are hiring more part-time employees because of Obamacare. The Hill quotes Carney: "The data reflects that there is not support for the proposition that businesses are not hiring full-time employees because of the Affordable Care Act," Carney told reporters. What do the data show? Carney said this:
"I would say broadly that if you look at the economic data, the suggestion that the ACA is reducing full time employment is belied by the facts," Carney said.
"What the ACA allows is the opportunity for individuals who could not prior to the passage of the Affordable Care Act afford insurance to get insurance," he continued. "And it provides subsidies for those who need help affording it, and it assists businesses in that effort, so they can offer insurance to their employees."
Carney doesn't say what the data show. He just changes the subject. I've had tougher days in conciliation court than Carney has with the White House press corps. Is Carney's job really this easy? The answer is that the suppression of growth in full-time jobs is just part of the price you have to pay.
Obamacare is suppressing growth in full-time employment because employers seek to escape coverage of the law. The law's requirements kick in for employers with 50 or more full-time employees as defined by the law.
One can easily see the effects of Obamacare, to take just one timely example, in the Wall Street Journal report, linked by the Hill, indicating that "employers have added more part-time employees - about 93,000 a month - in 2013 than full-time workers - averaging about 22,000 per month. That's a reversal from 2012, when employers hired 31,000 part-time workers and 171,000 full-time ones per month." The linked article, behind the Journal's subscription paywall, is headlined: "Restaurant shift: Sorry, just part-time."

Leonard Garment, RIP

Leonard Garment died over the weekend at the age of 89. Garment was a top adviser to Richard Nixon and, it seemed to me, a force for decency within the Nixon administration.
Garment was also a high-profile lawyer before and after his service in the Nixon administration. He met Nixon when the former vice president joined the Wall Street firm where Garment was a partner.
Garment's autobiography, Crazy Rhythm: From Brooklyn and Jazz to Nixon's White House, Watergate, and Beyond, is one of the best books of its genre that I have ever read. It provides genuine insight into Nixon, though Garment confesses not fully to have understood his friend.

God and man at Penn

It should come as no surprise that some of the very worst rants about George Zimmerman's acquittal are coming from an Ivy League professor. The competition is stiff, but will be hard-pressed to keep up with Anthea Butler, an associate professor of religious studies at the University of Pennsylvania.
The Zimmerman verdict has caused Butler to conclude that God is "a white racist god with a problem" who "is carrying a gun and stalking young black men."
There are conclusions Butler could have reached short of equating her caricature of Zimmerman with God. She could have settled for the less flamboyant view that there is no God. But flamboyance, one suspects, is what landed Butler the Ivy League gig and appearances on CNN and MSNBC.
Butler might also have concluded, years ago, that God is a black god with a problem who guns down young blacks. After all, there is a near-epidemic of shootings of young African-Americans by other African-Americans.
But Butler didn't land that Ivy League gig and those cable news appearances by calling out blacks.
Speaking of the Ivy League gig, what do Butler's students think of her teaching? According to the Daily Caller, her student reviews are abysmal:
"Pathetic," reports one unhappy student. "This teacher is pathetically bad at her supposed job. Do not give this untalented instructor any more classes."
Another student describes her as a "loudmouth idiot with crazy Don King hair" and "poorly substantiated and academically unsound" opinions.
And that was before her latest epiphany.
Whatever her shortcomings as an academic, though, Butler is a marketing genius. Thus, she's actually a perfect fit for left-wing cable outlets and, regrettably, for the back bench of the Ivy League.

Yesterday I noted Mike Huckabee's interview with Alan Dershowitz on Fox News about Zimmerman special prosecutor Angela Corey. Huckabee interviewed Dershowitz on Sunday following the verdict on Saturday evening. RCP has posted a video of the interview along with an excerpt in transcript form. Although I quoted the excerpt, I forgot to include a link to the RCP post with the video. The video of the five-minute segment is worth watching in its entirety and is accessible here. Sunday's interview followed up on Huckabee's interview of Dershowitz about Corey in June 2012 last year, which William Jacobson has posted at Legal Insurrection here.

When things don't go his way, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) tries to change Senate rules. Now he wants to give the minority party even less of a voice in the Senate by changing the rules governing filibusters. (Lawmakers are reportedly considering a deal to avoid this "nuclear option.")
Currently, it takes 60 votes to end a filibuster in the Senate, but Reid wants to change this to a simple majority in order to push through his liberal agenda more quickly..
The Heritage Foundation's Amy Payne points out how important filibusters are for the democratic process:

The filibuster is a valued tool of minority Senators to keep the majority from simply enacting everything it wants. It's one of the major differences between the House and Senate, making the Senate the more deliberative chamber.

In 2009 the Obama administration signed the the Convention of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, an inefficient United Nations treaty that sacrifices American sovereignty without any benefit to the United States.
Now it is in the hands of the Senate to ratify or reject the treaty.
The United States has enacted extensive federal laws to end discrimination against persons with disabilities in the United States, Heritage Foundation expert Steve Groves told members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee last year.
CRPD would not improve on these laws. Instead, it would hand over US sovereignty to a UN governing body that would set legally binding standards and require routine compliance reviews.
"If the Senate gives its advice and consent and the Convention is ratified," Groves testified, "it would become the supreme Law of the Land on par with federal statutes, including statutes relating to disability rights."

- This summer marked the seventh year that The Heritage Foundation and the Cesar Chavez Public Charter School in Washington, D.C. partnered to provide fellowships for D.C. high school students.
During their three-week fellowships this summer, De'Quan Staton and Jamar Traynham participated in a number of policy briefings and First Principles luncheons with interns from Heritage's Young Leaders Program. The students also received guidance and direction about their future plans, including college and career advice from mentors at Heritage.

The near silence of the news media about the march/rally reinforces the main theme of the event: When considering immigration policy, the media and the Senate have abandoned the Black American population that suffers incredibly high levels of poverty due to unemployment and depression of wages in occupations where Black Americans disproportionately work.
Send faxes to your U.S. Representative and Senators to tell them something important said at the rally.

Thanks to all of you who recognized me and spoke to me during the march and at the rally. Your stories of years of constant response to our alerts were most encouraging.
And it was especially uplifting for our younger staff, who roamed the crowd passing out NumbersUSA cards, to be told how important their work is to keeping individual citizens informed and equipped to make a difference on this issue.
This event indeed was very special. I have known some of the Black leaders for 20 years or more. They have fought hard for all Americans, but especially for the descendants of slavery who have been so easily left behind by the elites' decisions to make immigrants their priority. But others of the Black leaders who spoke were either new to me, or I was meeting them for the first time after earlier phone conversations.
They were especially emphatic in their insistence that the open-borders forces not be allowed to divide Black and White Americans from their mutual interest in a tight labor market that favors the most vulnerable citizens of our national community.
As if on cue, though, the groups on left and right who fight for every open-border proposal labeled the event by the Black American Leadership Alliance as an effort to pit "people of color" against each other.
I've observed this for 25 years. Any time a Black American speaks up against high immigration, he/she is accused of something like that. But I don't recall any speaker yesterday -- Black, White or Latino -- suggesting that any American of any color or national origin should be pitted against each other.
Instead, the speakers today called on all of us to stand up for all Americans and their ability to get a job and to earn a fair wage without the U.S. Congress putting their thumbs on the Scales of Economic Justice to tip them in favor of the greediest among us.

 The Department of Social Justice is contemplating several charges against the racist George Zimmerman for his cold-blooded murder of the post-infant and minority representative Trayvon Martin. Evidence compiled by the Federal Bureau of Investigation of Citizens has found Zimmerman to be guilty of at least several major civil rights-related crimes. Having found no sign of racism in Zimmerman's background, prosecutors plan to file charges of Involuntary Racism in the Commission of a Hate Crime, punishable by up to 20 years of labor in a correctional facility. Party officials believe this is the most appropriate charge based on the FBIC's report. However, some legal experts are also calling for additional charges, including Gross Negligence in the Commission of a Race Crime, as it is commonly believed that Zimmerman neglected to be properly racist when committing his crime... On Monday, 'Juror B37' in the George Zimmerman trial said it was the actions of both Zimmerman and Trayvon Martin that led to the teenager's fatal shooting last year. She went on to say that Zimmerman didn't actually break the law. The juror also revealed that during initial deliberations, half of the jurors wanted to convict Zimmerman. Florida mom receives 20-year sentence for firing a 'warning shot'
Marissa Alexander had never been arrested before she fired a bullet at a wall in 2010 - an action she described as a 'warning shot' because she felt her estranged husband was threatening her. Alexander had already filed a restraining order against the man and nobody was hurt by the bullet, but a northeast Florida judge was bound by state law to sentence her to 20 years in prison. Interestingly, State Attorney Angela Corey, who also oversaw the prosecution of George Zimmerman, stands by the handling of Alexander's case. READ
