Founding Fathers

Quote:

"But should the people of America once become capable of that deep simulation towards one another, and towards foreign nations, which assumes the language of justice and moderation while it is practicing iniquity and extravagance and displays in the most captivating manner the charming pictures of candor, frankness, and sincerity, while it is rioting in rapine and insolence, this country will be the most miserable habitation in the world; because we have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion. Avarice, ambition, revenge, or gallantry, would break the strongest cords of our Constitution as a whale goes through a net. Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other."

--John Adams, To the Officers of the First Brigade of the Third Division of the Militia of Massachusetts, 1798

Restructure US government to make "huge" green changes in America, study proposes

  • Obama Climate Change_Cala.jpg

FILE -- June 25, 2013: President Obama wipes his face as he speaks about climate change, Tuesday, June 25, 2013, at Georgetown University in Washington. (AP Photo/Charles Dharapak)

EXCLUSIVE: The Obama administration should dramatically reorganize the relationships between America's federal departments and agencies, and overcome legal barriers to help install the nebulous principle of "sustainability"  across government, the economy and society at large, according to a new National Research Council study sponsored by many of the federal departments that would be most affected.

The study also calls for installing sustainability in the "culture of government" and recommends that the U.S. look for inspiration to a number of "national sustainable development strategies" adopted under the United Nation's controversial Agenda 21, a highly detailed blueprint for reworking the global economy and environment that was reaffirmed at last year's Rio + 20 summit on sustainable development.

National sustainable development plans are mandated under Chapter 8 of Agenda 21, titled "Integrating Environment and Development in Decision-Making," which declared that governments should "where necessary, modify and strengthen procedures so as to facilitate the integrated consideration of social, economic and environmental issues." Currently, more than 100 nations have adopted such strategies. The U.S. is not among them.

Patriotic Summer Movie!

FROM THE DIRECTOR OF GODS AND GENERALS AND GETTYSBURG COMES THE LIBERTY MOVIE OF THE YEAR

RON MAXWELL'S COPPERHEAD

For anyone who reveres and believes in the preservation of the Constitution of the United States, Copperhead is a must see this summer!

Copperhead is unlike any Civil War movie to date. It is a film of the war at home - of a family ripped apart by war, of a community driven to an appalling act of vengeance against a man who insists on exercising his right to free speech during wartime. A story of the violent passions and burning feuds that set ablaze the homefront during the Civil War, Copperhead the movie is also a timeless and deeply moving examination of the price of dissent, the place of the individual amidst the hysteria of wartime, and the terrible price of war - a cost measured not in dollars but in fractured families, broken loves, and men dead before their time.

Based on the extraordinary novel by Harold Frederic, who witnessed these conflicts firsthand as a small child, Copperhead tells the story of Abner Beech, a stubborn and righteous farmer of Upstate New York, who defies his neighbors and his government in the bloody and contentious autumn of 1862.

Concerned Gun Owners of PA

Upcoming Dates- hope to see you at one of our events!

July 20- GRAA Unite the Fight Picnic
August 24- Point Pleasant Sportsmans Show
September- stay tuned for details on an exciting event we have planned!

Unite the Fight Pennsylvania 2013
2nd Amendment Picnic and Networking Event

Hosted by :     Gun Rights Across America PA and Concerned Gun Owners of PA
When:            Saturday July 20 2013   11 AM- 6 PM
Where :          Gifford Pinchot State Park, Lewisberry PA

It is time for sportsmen, shooters, 2nd Amendment (2a) supporters and freedom loving Pennsylvanians to unite in protecting gun rights in Pennsylvania, and PEACEFULLY draw a line in the sand. The other side is relentless in their organizing against us. If we are more organized and collaborate, we will be stronger in our battle to defend and preserve our RKBA in Pennsylvania and across America.

We have little time to waste in pulling together our resources to preserve and expand our RKBA in Pennsylvania.  Recently we have had our AG Kane revoke the reciprocity with FL permits, seen the stalling of HB357 Federal Nullification bill, and various attacks by Bloomberg financed anti-gun groups pushing for gun control legislation.  There is an alarming prospect of having a liberal anti-gun Governor for the next term.  We need to join forces now!

This will be a fun event for the family.  Gifford Pinchot State Park is located centrally and is just south of Harrisburg with easy access from the PA Turnpike.   Two pavilions are reserved and there will be horseshoes and baseball (bring your own equipment).  We will have hamburgers, hot dogs and drinks for those who sign up.  Feel free to bring along your own sides (e.g. chips, pretzels).

To sign up and for more information use the link below to sign up on our Eventbrite page- free of charge!
http://utfpa.eventbrite.com/

Spread the word and pass this along.  Lets make this a watershed event and send a strong, no-compromise message in support of the 2nd Amendment in Pennsylvania.
If questions, please contact Eric Stone at etp2adfndr@hotmail.com

We are also looking for sponsors to help offset the costs, if you head up an organization, own a business or know someone who does please contact Eric.

"Shall Not Be Questioned" - PA CONSTITUTION
" Shall Not Be Infringed"- US CONSTITUTION

CGOPA Press Release  June 25, 2013

Concerned Gun Owners of Bucks Co (CGOBC) was a grassroots group quickly formed in the wake of renewed calls for infringement on our guaranteed Civil Liberty to bear arms in defense of our persons under the PA and Federal Constitutions.  There was such intense response and passion from all walks of

life and we found the growing pains rapid.

In the face of very well funded and organized opposition from out of state anti-liberty groups we ultimately decided together that the best course of action was going around that wall instead of over it, and to that end we decided to morph into 2 specialized groups with the same end goal of preserving our inherent rights.  One would focus solely on legislative action tactics and outreach aimed at a target audience (PA4SP) and the other on public awareness events and energizing the core (CGOPA), and they would both work together as one towards the ultimate goal of stopping statist infringement on our rights.

While CGOBC was always neutral on open carry at events, PA4SP feels that it is not the best tool for their approach.  CGOPA on the other hand will utilize it at public events to demonstrate to the public that firearms are merely inanimate tools and are more often used to deter crime merely by their presence.

Our rallies are held to gather the support of local gun owners to strengthen our cause. Pennsylvanian's right to open carry is recognized by our state government and our state constitution. It is not our prerogative to dictate law, or tell Pennsylvanians they cannot exercise their rights. We are a firearms rights organization; we support not some of those rights, but all of them.

I want to remind all of you that our PA Unite The Fight Event at Gifford Pinchot State Park(click on the events tab above) is just 14 days away. We are looking for a little help to pull this off from our members. We are looking for any groups or individuals who can assist with the necessary provisions (for a couple hundred people) for the event. For instance Concerned Gun Owners of Pennsylvania will be providing Hot Dogs and Hamburgers for that day.

We will still need some help with the list below.

  • Ice and coolers
  • Charcoal and lighter fluid
  • A couple of larger portable grills to supplement the ones provided
  • Soda
  • Water
  • Paper Goods (plates, napkins, utensils, tablecloths)
  • Condiments (mustard, ketchup, relish)
  • Chips and Pretzels
  • Cookies, and or Brownies

If you can help with any of the above, or have an idea for something else we haven't thought of, please email me directly at etp2adfndr@hotmail.com

Dear RedStater,

We are excited to announce that Governor Nikki Haley will be attending this year's RedState Gathering!

We'll be in New Orleans August 2nd and 3rd with an all-star line-up to celebrate our Fifth Annual event. Nikki Haley hosted us two years ago in South Carolina where she hosted a great welcome reception and gave a fantastic speech that really got the crowd fired up on Saturday morning. We are thrilled to welcome her back to the RedState Gathering in New Orleans.

Confirmed speakers include:

Ted Cruz Ken Cuccinelli Nikki Haley Bobby Jindal Jim Bridenstine

Speaker invitations have also been extended to:

-Gov. Rick Perry (TX)
-Sen. Marco Rubio (FL)
-Liz Cheney
-Rep. Mick Mulvaney (SC)
-Sen. Tim Scott (SC)
-Rep. Steve Scalise (LA)
-And more!

We'll have plenty more speaker announcements coming shortly, but we're guaranteed to have a good mix of elected officials, potential 2014 cycle candidates, and other RedState friends. Remember, the Gathering is unique in conservative events in that speakers pay their own way and are required to take questions from folks in the audience.

What better excuse for a trip to New Orleans? And, don't forget, your registration even includes most of your food, as well as access to deeply discounted hotel rooms.

The 912 Gazette

From a trusted friend:

As some of you may know, I am associated with Coventry Christian Schools as a parent of a graduate (2010) and as member of the Board of Trustees.   Last October we spent a wonderful evening honoring Mark Niehls at our revitalized Founder's Dinner and celebrated our shared heritage in the remarkable community that is Coventry Christian Schools. Our vision for future Founder's Dinners is to inspire and inform not only our alumni and current CCS families but to inspire and inform the Tri-County Area and even our region by hosting speakers and artists who can uniquely assist us in celebrating the heritage, core values, and mission of CCS while also lifting our vision for an even greater future built upon the foundation of our past. The caliber of our speakers and guest artists should provide us with wonderful opportunities to share our CCS story with new partners in Christian education. Proceeds from the dinner will be applied to our annual Coventry Kids Fund for CCS scholarships.

This year we are proud to announce that our distinguished guest and speaker is Dr. Benjamin Carson, and our dinner's theme is "Faith of Our Fathers: The Role of Faith in American Schools." Please join us as we welcome Dr. Carson to the Tri-County Area and celebrate the great things God is doing at CCS!

Dr. Carson is a highly regarded neurosurgeon and motivational speaker who has addressed various audiences across the country. He is one of the most honored and recognized physicians in the world and holds more than 60 honorary doctorate degrees along with hundreds of awards and citations. He is a recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honor in the United States. He is the author of five books and is the founder of the Carson Scholars Fund. The 2009 award-winning movie entitled Gifted Hands: The Ben Carson Story, starring Cuba Gooding, Jr. as Carson, premiered on TNT and is based on his memoir. Dr. Carson is an authentic disciple of Christ, has been married to his wife Candy for more than 37 years, and is the father of three sons.

The 2013 Founder's Dinner, which will once again be a part of our Homecoming festivities, will be held at the historic Sunnybrook Ballroom in Pottstown on Sunday, October 13th, 2013. Doors will open at 4:30pm, followed by dinner at 5:15. Dress will be business/professional.    Tickets will be priced at $100 until May 15th, then will be $125, so reserve your tickets for the reduced price.

Due to Dr. Carson's international reputation and recent prominence in the media, including his recent speech at the 2013 National Prayer Breakfast, we fully anticipate that this event will sell out quickly once advertised to the public. Tickets go on sale to the public April 15.   If you are interested in attending, tickets can be purchased online.  I will send the link out to those who wish to go on April 15

th

.  While online reservations are preferred because they facilitate efficient event planning, you may also complete a paper order form, which I can forward to you as well.

All of us at Coventry Christian Schools, look forward to sharing this very special evening with you and acquainting you with the school and its mission!

Blessings,

Christine Gordon

Common Core State Standards

WHAT IS COMMON CORE?

Common Core, or the Common Core State Standards Initative (CCSSI), as it is known at the State and Federal level, is a set of national education standards that will fulfill the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act, through a waiver system. (The NCLB Act was put into place by Congress in 2001 and signed into law by President George W. Bush). Many states were failing to meet the NCLB Act requirements and, therefore, wanted something to replace NCLB.Common Core is part of the UN's plan for complete federal control over our education systems and the "Dumbing-down" of America.

Common Core State Standards Initiative (CCSSI) are not state standards in the first place, and are nothing more then further federalization of our state education systems.

COMMON CORE IS A TROJAN HORSE AND TIED TO THE UNITED NATIONS (UN)

If you cannot see that Common Core is tied to the United Nations you have not done your homework! The major funder of the Common Core Movement is the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation which has pledged $60 million dollars to this effort. Bill and Melinda Gates are tied to UN through-and-through and have spent money in America and overseas for UN programs in Africa and all over the world for decades.

From the Conservative Teachers of American organization, they wrote an article entitled: "Common Core Standards and the Federalization of Education." In this article we read: "Many are concerned that the Common Core Standards, once successfully implemented, will provide unfettered access of our educational system by the United Nations. Some textbooks and curricula for our public schools have already been written by the [United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization] UNESCO and the International Baccalaureate program, that is currently in many school districts, across the United States. Grabbing additional access is a natural next step. Once they write the curricula, they must have authority to develop all testing tools."

The UN involvement in the American educational system has already been facilitated by treaties signed by American presidents from both parties. Those documents include but are not limited to: Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Treaty on the Rights of the Child, Civic Education: Classroom Connections, and Agenda 21.

The  US Partnership for Education for Sustainable Development (since 2003), is the nexus of the UNA-USA and Global Leadership Coalition at the Department of Education, which altogether leverages the UN Decade on Education for Sustainable Development 2005-2014.  UNESCO, the lead agency of the Decade, defines Education for Sustainable Development as "education for everyone everywhere" for the "lifelong learning" of "present and future generations".

The UNA-USA sponsors Model UN across America and tailors its Global Classrooms curricula to whichever setting the kids happen to be participating.  Children are unknowingly trained to respond with prescribed consensus to the situations, simulations and stimulation's of the particular activity (Delphi Technique).  Global Kids is the CFR arm of Connect All Schools Consortium, a new Department of Education network, led by Independent Sector and The White House via United Planet Partners.  Global Kids is preparing children for Agenda 21.

The White HouseNSA and CIA now have website divisions aimed at kids.  The Public Education Network is a national association funded by Independent Sector donors: plus Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, the Carnegie Corporation of New York and the Department of Education

"Funders" of the Rockefeller Foundation-backed International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLEI), "Members" of the the Sustainability Consortium, backed by the EPA and BSR (Rockefeller Foundation, Rockefeller Brothers Fund, State Department) and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation-backed International City/County Management Association (ICMA): Center for Sustainable Communities (an ICLEI "Partner") are "partnered" with local schools and governments.

From the Partnership for 21st Century Skills aligning the Common Core State Standards with "professional development" content for teachers and principals and Lego Robotics curricula for students (Carnegie Mellon/Lego Education); to software curricula through websites like: cyberschoolbus.un.org, icivics.org, atomiclearning.com, renlearn.org, brainpop.com and ttl4.sunburst.com; to the weekly deliveries of Time for Kids magazine and textbook curricula into classrooms; kids are programmed with UN-defined values.  State Governors administer Federal funds to "Community-Oriented Policing" systems like Crime Stoppers (The UN, FBI and other law enforcement and corporate partners administer Crime Stoppers International), the local student-equivalent of the Department of Homeland Security's' "See Something, Say Something" campaign; whereby children see hand-drawn posters of child characters on school walls displaying "Eyes Looking", "Ears Listening", "Mouth Reporting" with a hotline to call.  Presidents Bush and Obama have personally followed the George H. W. Bush/Clinton trail of the Agenda 21/ Sustainable America megabanks-maze in "bipartisan" fashion.

UNESCO PLEDGES SUPPORT OF COMMON CORE

From UNESCO's document "The Vision of Education Reform in the United States" it states: "My department has been pleased to partner with the US Agency for International Development to help ensure that our best domestic practices are shared world-wide. The United States provides over a billion dollars annually to partner countries working on educational reform. Our goal for the coming year will be to work closely with global partners, including UNESCO, to promote qualitative improvements and system strengthening....Ultimately, education is the great equalizer. It is the one force that can consistently overcome differences in background, culture, and privilege."

THE UN'S AGENDA 21- COMMON CORE IMPLEMENTER!

In the United Nations Agenda 21 (Guide for the 21st Century), Chapters #25 and #36 specifically talk about education of our children:

Principle #25- "Children and Youth in Sustainable Development." In the "Activites 25.9.d" it states: "Ensure access for all youth to all types of education, wherever appropriate, providing alternative learning structures, ensure that education reflects the economic and social needs of youth and incorporates the concepts of environmental training, implementing innovative methods aimed at increasing practical skills, such as environmental scouting."

Principle #36- "Promoting Education, Public Awareness and Training." In the Activities Section of this document in "36.5.g" we read: "Within two years the United Nations system should undertake a comprehensive review of its educational programmes, encompassing training and public awareness, to reassess priorites and reallocae resources. The UNESCO/UNEP International Environmental Education Programme should, in cooperation with the appropriate bodies of the United Nations system, Governments, non-governmental organizations and others, establish a porgramme within two years to integrate the decisions of the Conference into the existing United Nations framework adapted to the need of the educators at different levels and circumstances. Regional organizations and national authorities should be encouraged to elaborate similar parallel programmes and opportunies by conducting an analysis of how to mobilize different sectors of the population in order to assess and address their environmental and development education needs."

In the Activities Section of this document in "36.5 h" we read: "There is a need to strengthen, within five years, information exchange by enhancing technologies and capacities necessary to promote environment and development education and public awareness. Countries should cooperate with each other and with the various social sectors and population groups to prepare educational tools that include regional environment and development issues and initiatives, using learning materials and resources suited to their own requirements." Sounds just like PARCC and SLDS. ASU's Institute for Global Sustainability and their "Sustainable Cities Network" is doing a fine job "brain-washing" our students in our high schools on sustainability, global warming (aka climate change), etc. Go here to meet the ASU sustainability schools!

COMMON CORE SCIENCE STANDARDS TEACH GLOBAL WARMING!

The new Common Core Science Standards that are up for review teach Global Warming (aka Climate Change)! Here is Research and Commentary on the Common Core Science Standards" from The Heartland Institute.

Please spread the word to all AMERICAN PATRIOTS!

Reality Check.....COMMON CORE EDUCATION = COMMUNISM IN AMERICA!

Common Core Education is the INDOCTRINATION of our CHILDREN.

DO NOT LISTEN TO THE GOP ESTABLISHMENT RHETORIC FROM MIKE HUCKABEE!!!

Reality Check- just in case you ever had a doubt......MIke Huckabee is a typical GOP Establishment person.

Mike Huckabee is now championing Common Core Education on Fox News for the GOP!  How disgusting is that?!?!?
"Mike Huckabee Urges Conservatives to Back Common Core Standards"

This is another reason why Constitutional Conservatives MUST leave the GOP and beware of what you hear on Fox News.  Fox News continues to move to the left - to the liberal progressive side of issues.  That is the very very sad but true fact.

Mr. GOP Huckabee....."It's disturbing to me there have been criticisms of these standards directed by other conservatives including the RNC," Huckabee wrote. "The truth of the matter is, these criticisms are short-sighted."    see attached article from Sunshine News.        Send a message to Mr. GOP Huckabee at http://www.mikehuckabee.com/masterfeedback and send a loud message to the every more liberal progressive Fox News!
Americans that believe in our Constitution must not be silent about this!

Do NOT let Fox News get away with promoting the very liberal progressive Common Core Education that promotes the ideology that American Children are Common/Community Property!

Do NOT let Fox News get away with promoting the loss of state's rights and the federal government taking over Education.  WE NEED TO ABOLISH THE FEDERAL DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION - NOT EMPOWER IT!

If you support SOCIALISM AND COMMUNISM FOR THE U.S.A. then COMMON CORE EDUCATION IS FOR YOU.  If you believe in the U.S.A. CONSTITUTION....then YOU WILL LOUDLY AND OPENLY REJECT AND OPPOSE COMMON CORE EDUCATION AND ANYONE THAT PROMOTES IT!!

Common Core Education is the indoctrination of American Children.  This is NOT acceptable if you still believe in FREEDOM!!

Sally Baptiste
www.blogtalkradio.com/americanstatesman

The proponents of Common Core say that the standards ARE state led because they were developed by The National Governors' Association.
Well, perhaps this is true in a way that is very disturbing!  Listen to this speech at the 1989 NGA conference on education (at 12:48).

The Development of Common Core, Explained by Michael Chapman
The Development of Common Core, Explained by Michael Chapman

The video says this is a clip from the 1989 National Governors'Assoc conference on Education:

Sr. Director of Mid-Continental Regional Education Laboratory, Dr. Shirley McCune

 She says about education:

#1) Total transformation of our society

#2) Teaching of facts and information (knowledge) is no longer the primary purpose of education

#3) Close connection between economic (sustainable) development and human capitol (human resource labor for a planned economy)

A group that allowed this kind of rhetoric to be said at their meeting? I don't think I want them developingeducational standards!  Please read to the bottom for transcripts from the 1987 NGA meetings chaired by Bill Clinton.  These transcripts are eye-opening.  They are clearly more concerned with workers for the manufacturing.  They seem to have concerns that we have students who can't read well enough (non-English speaking especially) to function in the manufacturing plants, and then on the other end of the spectrum... too many with higher ed degrees who don't WANT to work in the manufacturing.  So... what to do about all this?  Hummm.... standards!  Make sure they read well enough to function as the industrial workers, but not so well that they don't want to!!!   This is the John D. Rockefeller goal of the early 20th century when he started pushing for compulsory government schooling and funding the building of government schools.

NOW.... review the transcripts below of the conferences chaired by Bill Clinton:

1987 Annual meeting.   See page 34of this document to see how those governors seem to be concerned that we aren't training our students for the "workforce." They are concerned that the professors of higher ed are telling students to strive for more than the job of working in the manufacturing plants.  On page 40 they start talking about standards needed in education.  " See page 42 with this statement by Governor Sinner (great name!) to Lee Iacoccoa: "But you also made a point about the terrific cost to industry of the disparity between states in these regulations and I wondered, with all the fuss and the furor that we make over states' rights...."  http://www.nga.org/files/live/sites/NGA/files/pdf/1987NGAAnnualMeeting.pdf

June 11, 2013: Sen. Tom Harkin (D-IA) leads the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee in a markup of the Strengthening America's Schools Act of 2013, an education initiative to replace No Child Left Behind.  http://www.c-spanvideo.org/event/220036

At the June 10 Common Core forum in Fayette County, Superintendent Barge stated over and over again that if Georgia wants to change these standards at any time, we have the ability to do so.   The testimony below contradicts this belief by Superintendent Barge and confirms that states who adopted the Common Core standards DO NOT have the ability to change the standards in any way on their own.

2:23:00 - Rep. Tim Scott discusses his amendment to Harkin's bill.  Instead of states being forced to adopt blanket standards like Common Core as a prerequisite for funding, let's put decision-making back in the hands of parents and teachers in our communities."

2:31:00 - It is admitted that states who want to change the CC standards, the Secretary of Education would have to approve it.  States DO NOT have the ultimate decision making abilities!

2:39:00 - Alexander reads page 89 of the bill stating that any changes to standards MUST go through the Secretary of Education for approval.

As are most of the amendments offered by Republicans to this education bill, the Scott Amendment is defeated 12-10.

DATA COLLECTING: Senator Burr at the 1:00:00 mark reveals information about ADDITIONAL data points that this legislation will add to the data mining.  He says that his count is now 500 data points.

TEACHER EVALUATIONS: Senator Alexander at 2:00:00 mark discusses his amendment to end federally mandated school and teacher evaluations.  He says states had a "gun to their head" to adopt the teacher evaluations because they were desperate for NCLB waivers.   He makes the charge that the Harkin bill creates a "NATIONAL SCHOOL BOARD. The Gates Foundation involvement is mentioned frequently.

Harkin says over and over "this is voluntary."  If states don't want to implement the programs in the bill we just don't accept the money!"    More strong evidence that our states need to "just say no" to all federal education dollars.   As is pointed out in this debate: Any private business that entered into a partnership where the partner who contributed 10% funding got 80-90% of the control (as is the case with education funding under NCLB and Common Core) the partnership is DOOMED TO FAIL!

Tom DeWeese:

The Growing Threat of Smart Meters

Sustainable Development is code for a policy designed to transform human society, essentially eliminating individual life decisions and replacing them with top - down, one-size-fits-all government control. In steady fashion, the agenda for this new policy, designed at the international level, is put into place piece by piece with a new government council here, and new regulation there, each designed to appear as a "local" development program. Like the proverbial frog in the slowly boiling pot, many Americans fail to notice the rise in government heat.

The main course of action to impose the new agenda is through the pretense of environmental protection; "Sorry about your rights, but if we don't save the planet, then we will all perish!" And so with the devastation of a thousand pin pricks, America and its form or government is being changed through the creation of non-elected boards, councils and regional governments, designed to enforce the new regulations and "assure that we protect the environment."

The pin pricks come disguised as such issues as controls on community development; controls on use of private property; controls on use of open space; creation of development areas, many times under the excuse of historic preservation; communities designed on the blue print of pack and stack housing; making it harder to drive as roads are narrowed, even forcing cars to share the road with bicycles; the enforcement of expensive mass transit boondoggle projects; and the never ending spending spree on inefficient, unworkable alternative energy, such as wind and solar power.

In fact, control of energy and water are the two most effective tools in the enforcement of the Sustainable Development agenda. Without energy and water, human society stops. Using strict controls on how, or even if, energy and water can be used provides government with the power to dictate every aspect of society.

Mandatory Biometric Enrollment
Lawsuit - UPDATE

(fingerprinting, facial recognition, iris scan, DNA, etc.)
By Mark Lerner:  Co-Founder Constitutional Alliance

If you value liberty and understand how dangerous government mandated biometric ID is to our freedom, you need to read and understand every word of what I am writing about today. Something very important is happening so stay with me.

Over the years, the Constitutional Alliance has consistently fought against mandatory biometric ID and for the right of all citizens to be free of it.  Government mandated biometric ID is the lynchpin of the modern surveillance society.  The amount of control this system gives government over individuals is an anathema to a free society and we oppose it being imposed on anyone - period.  You cannot reconcile a free society with a surveillance society.

The founders of this country called religious freedom "the first freedom" because it is a precondition for other important rights..  Try to imagine the value of freedom of speech, or freedom of association without religious freedom and you will quickly see why religious freedom, also referred to as 'freedom of conscience' is so important.

Here is the Big News

This past week, 19 June 2013, a Motion for Summary Judgment was filed in Kaye Beach's lawsuit in the state of Oklahoma (You can read it here).  This is a pre-trial motion that presents the undisputed facts of her case and makes the strongest assertion based on those facts, that her rights are being violated.  The Motion for Summary Judgment asks the Judge, based on these undisputed facts, to rule in her favor.  Kaye fully expects a favorable ruling on this Motion but in the event that this doesn't happen, her lawsuit will continue on. You need only to read the first 30 pages of the Motion to understand the arguments Kaye and her attorneys have made.  If you choose to read further you can read about the answers the Department of Public Safety (the department that oversees the issuance of driver's licenses) gave to Kaye's "Discovery Motion".

Kaye Beach's lawsuit, is the only substantial challenge to government mandated biometric ID, to my knowledge, that exists anywhere in our country.

Here is a brief recap of the issue and basis for Kaye's legal challenge;

Kaye is opposed to mandatory biometric identification which is required of her if she wishes to have a state issued driver's license or ID card.  As we know, the ability to drive a vehicle and also banking, many financial transactions, as well as a host of other necessary daily activities are dependent upon having a government issued photo ID most commonly presented in the form of state driver's license or ID card. Try to go without one and you will soon find (like Kaye has!) that not having a valid ID is no small matter.

In September, 2011 Kaye filed a lawsuit against the state of Oklahoma for the unwarranted collection of her biometrics and for violating her religious freedom, both of which are protected under Oklahoma law.  Kaye is a born again Christian.

Here is why this case is important for everyone

We must stop the call for a  Constitutional Convention!

Article V of the Constitution:

  1. Gives NO guidelines for how to conduct a Con Con.
  2. NO rules on how delegates will be eligible or selected
  3. States have NO Guarantees they will even be represented
  4. Con Con could result in a COMPLETE CHANGE of our way of government
  5. There simply are NO controls over the delegates once selected.

We must stop the call for a
Constitutional Convention!

I have enclosed a vitally important petition.

I desperately hope you will immediately sign. I am not exaggerating when I say the future of our nation is at stake.

I am becoming more alarmed by the day.

Because the drive to force a Constitutional Convention (Con Con) is growing stronger.

I am getting phone calls and notes from APC supporters telling me that they are receiving appeals asking them to support a Con Con.

I am seeing more and more articles in Conservative publications supporting the call for a Constitutional Convention.

The Internet is full of such messages. Many in the Tea Party are beginning to support the idea of a Con Con.

Those pushing the idea are powerful and well funded. Every single state government and all state legislators in the nation have received very expensive, professionally-produced packages detailing how a Con Con could be called and controlled for a Conservative agenda.

This is an outright lie. A Con Con can not be controlled and there can be no guarantee that delegates will do anything they are instructed to do.

By calling a Con Con our precious Constitution will be placed on an operating table and cut to ribbons. Nothing is more dangerous to our Republic.

But the movement for a Constitutional Convention is gaining strength. Conservatives are being targeted because of our love of the Constitution and our frustration over how it is being ignored by those leading our government.

The effort is misguided, dangerous and just plan wrong.

We must stop this movement now.

Urgent: I have enclosed a petition to your state's Governor asking him/her not to sign on to the Con Con movement.

You and I must deliver thousands of these petitions to every single Governor as fast as we can. They must know that Americans across the nation do not support this certain destruction of our Constitution.

Please sign your petition and we will email it immediately to your state governor.

This new Con Con effort is very serious. The organizers are misguided in thinking they can control a Con Con once it has been called.

But that's what they are telling state legislators and Governors. And many who truly want to fix our problems are starting to believe it.

ImmigrationCounters.com provides the key numbers and events related to illegal immigration in the United States. Using the latest government and private sources, research and analysis trending data is factored at their individual rates of increase. For information about the research behind the individual counters clickhere Data Sources ImmigrationCounters.com supports legal immigration and respect for all humanity yet highlights the significant impact of illegal immigration in America.

ImmigrationCounters.com informs the public of the realities of illegal immigration while challenging the myths and misinformation surrounding it. After decades of passively watching this problem grow, most Americans are now more aware of the severity of this issue. Our government has demonstrated a complete lack of urgency to control illegal immigration both on the borders and within the interior. Because of this large failure that which traditionally had been the American way of welcoming immigration is now dividing the country because of one word, illegal. Opposing illegal immigration and wanting the laws enforced is not un-American. It is time to set the record straight on what is un-American, illegal is un-American.

The issue of illegal immigration doesn't need more laws, studies or debates, it needs leadership and enforcement. America doesn't need immigration reform, it needs leadership reform. Because our government has failed to enforce the existing immigration laws, why should anyone be confident they will do so with expanded immigration reform? Because of these failures, legislators have been addressing the problems at their local levels with bills to manage it incrementally, piece-by-piece, rather than trying to fix the national problem at once--an impossible task. What most Americans expect is to have our borders secure, enforcement of the existing laws within the interior, meaningful punishment of employers who hire illegally and removal of incentives such as birthright citizenships and public school enrollments without status verifications. We must also address the fact that we're soft on criminals caught in crimes and aren't deported. No other country would allow this to continue. 40% of them entered the country legally and overstayed their visas. Yet there's still no reliable method to verify if Visa overstays have left the country. Another incentive that must be addressed is the birthright citizenship program that has resulted in millions of children and parents receiving instant rights and benefits. Some have called them "GPS babies" and this certainly cannot be what the authors of the 14th Amendment intended to occur. Public housing and other benefits are provided for the illegal parents through their 'anchor children' while citizens are turned away because of limited resources. This antiquated program must end. Government agencies and officials at all levels must address the costs associated with this kind of abuse. Past mistakes have been made in attempts to fix illegal immigration and our communities can no longer afford these kinds of mistakes.

Wrong Side of the Street

The Zimmerman case is about many things, but it isn't about George Zimmerman, an Hispanic Obama supporter who campaigned against police brutality only to find himself plucked up by the hand of Big Brother to play the villainous white racist in the latest episode of liberal political reality television.

Zimmerman is the latest Bernie Goetz; another wholly unlikely cult figure who currently campaigns for vegetarian lunches in public schools and squirrel rescue. It's not that the two men had anything particularly in common. Unlike Goetz, it is very unlikely that Zimmerman jumped the gun, so to speak, but they both fill a similar niche. They represent the embattled lower half of the middle class.

To understand the Zimmerman case, you have to live in a neighborhood that has just enough property values to keep you paying the mortgage and just enough proximity to dangerous territories to make you feel like you're living on the frontier.

The chain of events doesn't make much sense to the elites, which is one reason why they assume that the explanation must be racism There weren't a lot of New Yorker readers cheering as Charles Bronson's Paul Kersey stalked the subways and parks of the city blowing away hoods. The perfect target audience for the Death Wish movies or for Goetz saying "You don't look too bad, here's another" was that bottom half of the middle class that didn't have enough money to leave the city and didn't have enough liberalism to accept the violence as their just due.

But the case isn't about race either. It's about a struggling middle class in a precarious economy trying to hang on to what it has. And it's about a culture of dropouts from the economy who celebrate thuggery and then pretend to be the victims. It's doubtful that anyone in Zimmerman's neighborhood who weathered multiple break-ins has much sympathy for the Martin family. And that's one reason that the prosecution hasn't found any useful witnesses.

Please tell anyone you know in Meehan's district to call him to denounce his decision:

"It's within my contemplation that we've got to figure out some kind of earned legal status for people who are here," said U.S. Rep. Pat Meehan of Delaware County. "It's impractical to assume that we're going to move 12 million people out of our borders."

Meehan, a former U.S. attorney and a member of the homeland security committee, said he wanted to see tough security measures first, to limit illegal immigration and also prevent terrorists from entering the country. But he also said there needed to be more certainty for those who follow the immigration laws, and he expressed sympathy for people who came here illegally but are striving for a better life.

"It's a life of hell for people who are illegally trying to work," Meehan said.

RedState Morning Briefing

1.  Hell No

Dick Durbin thinks the GOP needs to step up and help "change and improve" Obamacare.

Hell no.

In fact, I am disappointed with John Boehner and the House GOP wanting to delay implementation of the individual mandate. I think Obamacare needs to go forward as designed by the Democrats. I think someone should sue the Obama Administration over delaying the employer mandate. It should happen on schedule.

Obamacare is a train wreck of epic proportions. It will ruin the economy, drive individuals into full time part time status as employees, harm small businesses, and make Americans more and more dependent on the federal government as slaves to the entitlement state while ballooning our national debt.

The American public voted for Barack Obama twice. They should be made to care about the policy choices they have enabled by having those policies go into effect exactly as the Democrats intended.

There can be no fixing. There can be no tweaking. There should be no delaying. There should only be defunding and repealing of the whole awful mess.

Republicans are under no obligation to mend what they were sent to Washington to end. Instead, let the American public see big government operate as Democrats designed it. . . . please click here for the rest of the post

2.  A Guide to Wednesday's Immigration Conference Meeting

House Republicans will finally confront leadership on the issue of immigration.  In reality, the issue is not too complicated.

There is an enormous bifurcation between the public and the political class over the issue of amnesty.  Following passage of the amnesty bill in the Senate, the political class in both parties thinks this is the most pressing issue for the House to consider before the August recess.  Senate GOP leadership is working overtime to beg House members to send something over to conference.  The public, on the other hand, couldn't care less about the issue, and in fact, is against amnesty.  Moreover, they are distracted with the scandals, Egypt in turmoil, and summer vacations.  As such, there is no reason the House should take up immigration legislation before August. . . . please click here for the rest of the post

3.  Obama Commerce Dept. destroys printers and mice as virus cleaning

What do you do when a computer has been hijacked by a virus? Take it to professionals for cleaning? Sure. Secure your network? Absolutely. Extract your data or fall back to backed up data, check it carefully, and then erase your computer and install software fresh? In an extreme case, that could be necessary.

However the technological terror that is the Obama administration had a different idea, when the Economic Development Administration's terribly insecure systems were infected with run-of-the-mill viruses. These alleged geniuses who are supposed to be everything in technology that Republicans are not literally blew their budget destroying hardware, including mice and printers, as a response to the viruses. . . . please click here for the rest of the post

4.  US Rep. Charles Boustany (@RepBoustany) Wants Louisiana to Embrace Obamacare

Robert Costa at National Review has a report that Eric Cantor is yelling at House Committee Chairmen for doing the right thing and opposing the farm bill. The Committee Chairmen recognize just how terrible the legislation is and Cantor is upset with them.

One would think the House Republican Majority Leader would be more upset with House Republicans who want states to embrace Obamacare.

For example, Rep. Charles Boustany (R-LA) should lose his sub-committee chairmanship for wanting Louisiana to expand medicaid in the state under Obamacare. . . . please click here for the rest of the post

5.  California conservatives promise bloody primary for Leftist Republican

Republicans in California will have a shot next year to defeat Rep. Ami Bera (D-CA), who is considered to be one of the most vulnerable Democrats in the House. But there is very strong disagreement whether or not a former Republican Congressman should run.

Former Rep. Doug Ose, who served in Congress from 1999 to 2005, sees an opening to return to Washington and is apparently being courted by some in state's political establishment to run in the CA-07.

Ose, who lost a congressional primary bid in 2008, is telling the media that he isn't happy with the state of affairs in Washington and around the country. But there are some who believe that Ose wouldn't do much to help fix Washington based on his past support of big government policies. . . . please click here for the rest of the post

6.  New York, Chicago Anti-Gun Groups Fund Key Position in Milwaukee Mayor's Administration

A top anti-gun official working for Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett has her job paid for with grants from liberal organizations. According to a paper trail of city records, pay records, and documents filed with the IRS by liberal foundations, money from powerful special interest groups has been given to the City of Milwaukee with the condition that the money be used to support the agenda and work of Mayors Against Illegal Guns. The official who does this work is required to monitor gun stores, conduct research for lobbying efforts, and lobby elected officials to change gun laws. . . . please click here for the rest of the post

Decision Time on Immigration

07/10/2013

Today is a pivotal day in the immigration debate: House Republicans are meeting to hash out their path.

Pressure is coming from all sides. The Senate passed the Gang of Eight's "comprehensive" plan, and three groups on the right are urging the House to act. President Obama is meeting today with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus. House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) has said the House will not take up the same bill the Senate passed-but there is still a danger in trying to work with the Senate.

If the House simply tries to pass a bill so that it can come together with the Senate in conference-informal or formal-Congress will likely tinker around the edges of the Gang of Eight's plan and give us the immigration version of Obamacare.

As Heritage experts have explained, Congress can address every major aspect of immigration reform and border security without a comprehensive bill.

>>> Advancing the Immigration Nation: Heritage's Positive Path to Immigration and Border Security Reform

The plan on the table has severe flaws-and besides, we can't even trust that laws will be implemented as they're supposed to be.

Just look at Obamacare. The Obama Administration has delayed or changed more than a dozen aspects of that law. So promises from Senators and Representatives about how a law will work can be undone or simply never fulfilled. (That's what happened the last time Congress granted amnesty to illegal immigrants-the promised border security provisions never materialized.)

The Senate-passed bill doesn't secure the border.

It doesn't stop the flow of illegal immigrants.

It doesn't prevent visitors from overstaying their visas.

It doesn't help aspiring Americans who are waiting in line to come here legally.

And for not doing these things, it costs American taxpayers trillions.

As House Republicans consider their course, it would be wise to look at commonsense things the country can do without saddling taxpayers with a do-nothing, trillion-dollar monstrosity.

Seattle metro bus with terrorism ad

Controversy surrounds pictures of wanted terrorists on Seattle buses

By Graham Johnson

http://www.kirotv.com/news/news/fbi-pulling-advertisements-46-seattle-metro-buses-/nYXKW/

SEATTLE -

The FBI says it's pulling advertisements off 46 Metro buses in the Seattle area, after some people complained that they stereotyped Muslims.

The ads, which began running this month in connection with a State Department program, features pictures of 16 men wanted around the globe for terrorist activities below the words: "Faces of Global Terrorism."

Among those criticizing the ads was U.S. Rep. Jim McDermott of Seattle, who suggested they gave the impression that "terrorism only comes from one religion or one color of people," and said the ads might increase the risk of hate crimes against Middle Eastern, South Asian and Muslim Americans.

"That is not the face of terrorism," McDermott told KIRO 7 on Wednesday. "Terrorism is what's in people's minds. There are white terrorists and there are brown terrorists and black and there's all kind of terrorists. So to put it on the bus and say this is the face of terrorism is to really brand one group of people unfairly."

Although the ads do not identify the terrorists by religion, Jeff Siddiqui of American Muslims of Puget Sound says the message is clear.

"Anyone who looks at this ad is going to say Muslims are the face of global terrorism and the bigots are going to have a heyday," Siddiqui said.

FBI spokeswoman Ayn Sandalo Dietrich said "there is value still in putting out those images but we probably have more to learn on what's the proper way to package that information." The FBI is working to swap out those ads with others promoting the State Department's "Rewards for Justice" program.

Metro says it will take between seven and 10 days to remove the ads from buses.

Fitzpatrick, House Pass FOR VETS Act

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick (PA-8) released a statement Tuesday

following the House's passage of the FOR VETS Act [HR 1171] by a 387-1 vote:

"Monday's bipartisan vote highlights the willingness of both sides to come together to work in the

best interest of our nation's veterans.

This simple legislative fix clears the way for Veterans Service Organizations to gain access to

federal surplus property that can be used to increase the quality of life and care for American

veterans.

An original FOR VETS Act was signed into law in 2010 and allowed Veterans Service

Organizations (VSOs) to receive surplus federal property - but only if the VSOs were able to

prove the property was being used for public health or educational purposes. That wording kept

many VSOs from obtaining any surplus property because they did not fit the overly-restrictive

legislative definition of an educational or public health organizations.

By more accurately defining the requirements, the FOR VETS Act of 2013 streamlines previous

FOR VETS Acts and closely mirrors a similar bill that passed the Senate unanimously last year.

As we continue to do everything we can for our brave former warriors, it's important to

understand that often the best way to help our veterans is correctly implementing and simplifying

the laws that are already on the books."

Fitzpatrick, Committee Hear About Consumer Data Collection

Financial Services Committee focuses on CFPB consumer data collection, usage

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick (PA-8) Tuesday participated in a House

Financial Services Committee hearing on the Consumer Financial Protection Bureaus' (CFPB)

collection and use of consumer financial data.

"Data collection and research is not a bad thing; in fact it's the sort of diligence we should expect

of a regulator," said Fitzpatrick, a member of the Financial Services Committee.  "However just

because a government agency  has good intentions, or a benevolent sounding name, doesn't

mean Congress should just look the other way while tens of millions of Americans are having

their financial history gathered up and stored."

The Financial Investigations Subcommittee hearing focused on the legality of CFPB's collection

of data under Dodd-Frank Act and other laws, as well as efforts to ensure the collected data is

never exploited.

"In the hearing, the CFPB acknowledged that they are keeping data on individual Americans,"

said Fitzpatrick, "I would like to see more transparency in the data collection process to ensure

Americans are protected."

The CFPB was established by the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer protection

Act to regulate and supervise the offering of consumer financial products or services under

federal laws. The CFPB is tasked with the authority to gather information from time to time

regarding the organization, business conduct, markets, and activities of covered person and

service providers through examination of reports, consumer complaints, voluntary consumer

surveys, interviews, or databases.

Currently, the CFPB is collecting data on at least 10 million consumers by compelling supervised

entities to provide consumer data upon request as well as by purchasing consumer data from

outside sources.

"Just as the Dodd Frank Act gave the CFPB the authority that it is now exercising to collect this

data, the law also put some very specific constraints on this activity," said Fitzpatrick in his

opening statements. "Recent stories involving the NSA have demonstrated that the American

people and members of congress have every reason to be suspicious of so-called "meta data"

gathering and analysis."

During questioning of Acting Deputy Director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau

Steven Antonakes, Fitzpatrick inquired if the CFPB gathered information on individual consumers.

Antonakes acknowledged that the bureau did store that kind of information but were not

interested in who the specific person was.

"We don't just need assurances that there is nothing potentially harmful or invasive going on, we

need maximum transparency to ensure it beyond any doubt," said Fitzpatrick. "The CFPB must do

more in this regard."

Boehner Speaks About Immigration Reform

House Republicans are scheduled to meet tomorrow to discuss their strategy for dealing with immigration reform. Yesterday Speaker John Boehner addressed the issue during a press conference. Speaker Boehner reiterated his position that the Senate bill is going nowhere in the House and that border security is his first priority. Here are his remarks:

"I've made it clear, and I'll make it clear again: the House is not going to take up the Senate bill. The House is going to do its own job in developing an immigration bill.

"It's real clear from everything that I've seen and read over the past couple weeks that the American people expect that we'll have strong border security in place before we begin the process of legalizing and fixing our legal immigration system....

"We have a broken immigration system, we have undocumented workers here in record numbers. We just can't turn a blind eye to this problem and think it's going to go away."

It is good that Speaker Boehner is holding firm. Fox News reports that the House Judiciary Committee "has adopted a piecemeal approach, approving a series of bills, none with a path to citizenship that Obama and Democrats are seeking." While there are plenty of chances for mischief in the legislative process, so far the House appears to be taking the right approach.

But there also appears to be a consensus emerging on the right that a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants might be tolerable after the border is secured. It seems to me that this approach still amounts to a surrender on a fundamental principle -- the rule of law.

We already have a legal process for immigrants to obtain citizenship. Shouldn't the conservative position be that if you violate that process, you cannot become a U.S. citizen? To do otherwise is to walk into the quagmire of what is often referred to as a "moral hazard" -- encouraging future bad behavior by rewarding it now.

Many conservatives argue that the 1986 amnesty to address three million illegal immigrants created a moral hazard that led us to the point we are at today with at least three times that number now in the country. We are risking a similar perverse message in the current immigration debate.

The loudest voices are the advocates for amnesty. But one group being left out is the millions of immigrants who came to the U.S. and, at great expense in time and money, followed the legal process.

Many of them are seething at the idea that the process they followed could be short-circuited by illegal immigrants who broke the law. This is one reason why I think Republicans embracing the Senate's bill are making a tremendous miscalculation. They risk offending many legal immigrants who might be inclined to vote for them.

"Kill The Bill"

Opposition to the Senate's amnesty legislation is growing. Bill Kristol of The Weekly Standard and Rich Lowry of National Review have co-authored a column entitled "Kill The Bill."

They zeroed in on a point I have made repeatedly in this report: Why would any Republican trust this administration to enforce the border security aspects of any new law?

After all, Obama is already refusing to enforce existing immigration laws. This administration routinely ignores laws it does not like.

Such concerns were only underscored by Obama's actions last week in waiving Obamacare's employer mandate. Consider this excerpt from Kristol and Lowry:

"The bill's first fatal deficiency is that it doesn't solve the illegal-immigration problem. The enforcement provisions are riddled with exceptions, loopholes, and waivers. Every indication is that they are for show and will be disregarded, just as prior notional requirements to build a fence or an entry/exit visa system have been -- and just as President Obama has recently announced he's ignoring aspects of Obamacare that are inconvenient to enforce on schedule.

"Why won't he waive a requirement for the use of E-Verify just as he's unilaterally delayed the employer mandate? The fact that the legalization of illegal immigrants comes first makes it all the more likely that enforcement provisions will be ignored the same way they were after passage of the 1986 amnesty."

What Would Jesus Do?

Four religious groups -- Sojourners, National Association of Evangelicals, the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission representing the Southern Baptist Convention, and the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference -- are up on Capitol Hill this week pushing amnesty under the guise of "compassion." Sojourners is a left-wing group, so I'm not surprised it is pushing a left-wing idea.

But I believe my friends at the ERLC and the NAE are at risk of offending many of their own members. States with large concentrations of Southern Baptists and evangelicals have led the way in passing laws that do the most to combat illegal immigration.

As for the "compassion" argument, the Gospel message is clear about what individual Christians and churches are supposed to do to help the poor, the dispossessed and the stranger. But just once I'd like to see groups that use faith to push a left-wing agenda include the taxpayer when they talk about compassion!

Do we really think that Jesus wants to take another chunk out of the hide of a hard-working taxpayer making $40,000 a year who can barely pay his own mortgage, to aid someone who violated the law? That is a strange reading of Scripture in my view.

Zimmerman Defense to Rest Tomorrow

Posted: 09 Jul 2013 02:28 PM PDT

(John Hinderaker)

Today was the last full day of testimony in the George Zimmerman trial. The principal witness was Dr. Vincent DiMaio, a pathologist and former medical examiner who testified that the physical evidence was consistent with Zimmerman's account of his encounter with Trayvon Martin. Specifically, he testified that examination of the effect of the bullet on Martin's clothing and on his body shows that his sweatshirt was hanging away from his body, which is consistent with Zimmerman's claim that Martin was on top of him and was leaning over him when he was shot. Obviously, if Zimmerman was on top of Martin and Martin was lying on his back, you wouldn't have that separation between his sweatshirt and his body. Dr. DiMaio also testified that the gun was against Martin's sweatshirt and a few inches from his body when it was fired.

The other aspect of DiMaio's testimony that was helpful to the defense was his discussion of Zimmerman's injuries. DiMaio testified that Zimmerman's injuries were consistent with his head being banged into concrete and being punched in the face. That may seem painfully obvious, but one of the things you do in a trial is find opportunities to talk with witnesses about facts that are, or should be, obvious. Any time Zimmerman's injuries are being discussed, it is a good thing for the defense. In general, DiMaio supported the seriousness of Zimmerman's injuries and said that the police should have taken him to a hospital, not to the police station.

How effective was DiMaio's testimony? He showed some of the pros and cons that are typical of experienced expert witnesses. I thought he was impressive, but some jurors could have been put off by the clinical, hard-bitten attitude that you often see in medical examiners. The substance of his testimony certainly helped to create reasonable doubt, especially considering that there is no hard evidence that is inconsistent with Zimmerman's account.

The last witness today was Eloise Diligard, an intelligent, middle-aged black lady who was a neighbor of Zimmerman's at the time of the incident. Ms. Diligard is sick, and testified from her home via FaceTime. (Like many modern courts, this Florida state court is strikingly informal, notwithstanding the seriousness of the proceeding.) Ms. Diligard obviously liked and respected Zimmerman, which was probably the main point of her testimony. She described him as a "friendly neighbor." She came upon the crime scene, identified Zimmerman for police officers who showed her a photograph of him, was concerned about his injuries, and drove to Zimmerman's house to alert his wife to the incident. She also testified that she has listened to the 911 recording several times, and believes that the voice calling for help on it is Zimmerman's. She was careful to say that she had never heard Martin speak, but said that Zimmerman has a "light male voice" like the one on the audio recording.

Eloise Diligard testifying via FaceTime

One of the defense lawyers then told the court that the defense has canceled a couple of witnesses and will rest tomorrow. The scope of the remaining testimony depends on the court's rulings with respect to the witnesses the defense still wants to present. At the moment, the lawyers are arguing about the admissibility of an animation of the fight that the defense wants to show. One way or another, however, it appears that testimony will conclude tomorrow, subject to any rebuttal evidence that the state might be permitted to introduce. Such evidence, if any, presumably will be brief.

This means that Zimmerman will not testify. No surprise there. The fact that the defense has cut a couple of witnesses from the schedule is also not surprising. This often happens, especially when a civil or criminal defendant believes the trial has gone well for it. Sometimes, too, the lawyers conclude that the jury has heard enough and is ready to decide the case, and any further evidence will be cumulative at best.

I assume this means that the case will go to the jury on Thursday. On paper, it shapes up as an easy win for the defense, but you never know. A lot depends on what preconceptions the jurors brought to the case, on whether they have obeyed the court's repeated injunctions to avoid press coverage of the trial, and on whether they are willing and able to decide the case based on the evidence that was presented in court, as opposed to making some kind of social or political statement. In general, my confidence in jurors is high, and I think they will do their duty. I do wish, however, that there were 12 jurors rather than six.

This day in baseball history

(Paul Mirengoff)

On July 9. 1963, the National League defeated the American League 5-3 in the all-star game, played in Cleveland. It was the only all-star game played that year, Major League Baseball having mercifully ended its four year practice of putting on two per-year.

The NL's victory ushered in a period in which the Senior Circuit won 19 of 20 all-star games. And with the New York Yankees beginning their decline, the AL would also lose five of the next World Series.

The AL's line-up for the 1963 contest reflects the League's sad condition, I think:

Nellie Fox 2B
Albie Pearson CF
Al Kaline RF
Frank Malzone 3B
Leon Wagner LF
Earl Battey C
Joe Pepitone 1B
Zoilo Versalles SS
Ken McBride P

There are only two Hall-of-Famers in the batch, Fox and Kaline, with Fox (lifetime OPS of .714) a decidedly second-tier enshrinee.

The NL line-up, though also including only two Hall-of-Famers, was more impressive, I think:

Tommy Davis LF
Hank Aaron RF
Bill White 1B
Willie Mays CF
Ed Bailey C
Ken Boyer 3B
Dick Groat SS
Julian Javier 2B
Jim O'Toole P

Ten more Hall of Famers played in the game. For the American League, Harmon Killebrew, Carl Yastrzemski, Brooks Robinson, Luis Aparicio, and Jim Bunning all came off the bench. The National League used Roberto Clemente, Duke Snider, Stan Musial, Willie McCovey, and Don Drysdale. Ron Santo, who I believe should be in the Hall of Fame also played.

So the fans weren't deprived of star power, although they were deprived of seeing four additional Hall-of-Famers who were in the NL squad but did not play. That modest list consists of Sandy Koufax, Warren Spahn, Juan Marichal, and Orlando Cepeda.

The game was close all the way. Mays was the star of stars, scoring two runs, stealing two bases, and driving in the run that broke the 3-3 tie in the fifth inning. Drysdale was the pitching star, throwing two innings of shut-out ball to record the save.

Richardson was goat of the game. His error in the fifth inning set up the unearned run that put the NL on top to stay. Later, he snuffed out potential rallies by hitting into a pair of double plays, following a pair of singles by Brooks Robinson.

If anyone was cheated by the 1963 all-star game, it was fans of the Washington Senators, including yours truly. Forced by rule to select at least one player from each team, AL manager Ralph Houk of the Yankees picked Washington's catcher Don Leppert.

Leppert had hit three home runs in a game back in mid-April, but only two since then. By the all-star break, he had only 19 RBI to go with a batting average of .262.

To be sure, no one on the Senators deserved all-star status in 1963. But a number of players deserved it considerably more than Leppert - Don Lock, Chuck Hinton, Claude Osteen, Tom Cheney, and Ron Kline come to mind.

But Houk, as I recall, wanted a bullpen catcher. And that, I believe, is where Leppert spent the entire game. Certainly, he did not play in it.

Is it any wonder that I hate the Yankees?

UPDATE: Actually, fans of the Cleveland Indians had even more reason than Senators fans to feel aggrieved. Cleveland, unlike Washington a respectable ball club, had one representative on the AL squad - Jim "Mudcat" Grant. But even though the game was played in Cleveland, Houk did not use Grant. Thus, the hometown fans saw none of their heroes.

Houk also did not use Norm Siebern, the lone representative of the Kansas City Athletics. Houk did play all five Yankees at his disposal - Richardson, Pepitone, Elston Howard, Tom Tresh, and Jim Bouton. All but Pepitone were add-ons to the team, so Houk wasn't required to play them.

Is it any wonder the American League fans of that era hate the Yankees?

Schumer-Rubio takes pandering to a new level

Posted: 09 Jul 2013 08:08 AM PDT

(Paul Mirengoff)

A new poll undermines the conventional wisdom, relentlessly peddled by some Republican establishment types, that Republicans need to embrace Schumer-Rubio style amnesty in order to make headway with Hispanic voters. The poll, conducted by Republican pollster John McLaughlin, finds that, by a margin of 60 percent to 34 percent, registered Hispanic voters support granting legal status to illegal immigrants only when the goal of stopping 90 percent of future illegal immigration is reached.

The Schumer-Rubio legislation grants legal status to illegal immigrants without regard to any metric of success in preventing illegal immigration. Indeed, as Andrew Stiles points out, the position favored by a strong majority of Hispanic voters is more hawkish than the one put forward by Senator Cornyn, but rejected by the Gang of Eight and its adherents. Cornyn's amendment would have required a 90 percent border-apprehension rate before illegal immigrants, having already been granted legal status under the legislation, could apply for a green card.

The poll also found that Hispanic voters oppose allowing illegal immigrants to obtain federal benefits, including Obamacare benefits, "while they are going through the legalization process and before the 90% goal is reached." Here, the split was 56-40.

In addition, the poll explodes the notion that immigration is an overridingly important issue for Hispanic voters. For them, the issue ranked last in importance behind the economy, education, and health care. Among non-registered Hispanics, however, immigration ranked first in importance. That's kind of scary, if you think about it.

Amnesty supporters might respond to these poll results by contending that backing Schumer-Rubio style legislation is nonetheless a key to reaching Hispanic voters in order to overcome the image (which, the poll confirms, exists) that Republicans don't care about Hispanics and, indeed, "discriminate" against "people like them." We hear this view, for example, from Hispanic organizers within the Republican party - probably as an excuse for their inability to deliver and/or an attempt to mask the extent to which Hispanics strongly favor the liberal economic agenda.

But to the extent that Hispanics can be "reached" by Republicans via the immigration issue, presumably this can be accomplished by supporting the Hispanic-favored position on immigration reform, without pushing an approach they consider too lenient. The Democrats won't permit that position to become law, of course. But pushing it should, if anything, help Republicans and hurt Democrats with Hispanic voters.

In any event, attempting to curry favor with Hispanics by advancing legislation more liberal than they say they want takes pandering to a new level.

The Climate Mafia Strikes Again: The Curious Case of Murry Salby

Posted: 09 Jul 2013 07:19 AM PDT

(Steven Hayward)

Last month we spotlighted here the devastating synopsis of the case against conventional climate alarmism by Macquarie University physicist Murry Salby, presented last spring in Germany.  It seems the Luca Brazis of the climate campaign have not taken this sitting down, and apparently Salby has been sacked from Macquarie.  Over on Australian science writer Joanne Nova's blog, Salby gives an account of what has taken place.

It is a long account you can read in full at your leisure, but the overall point is that the university apparently regretted its hiring of Salby and reneged on its commitment of support for his research, is penalizing one of his graduate students, and has used technicalities to dismiss him.  Here's the key section:

8. Under the resources Macquarie had agreed to provide, arrangements were made to present this new research at a scientific conference and in a lecture series at research centers in Europe.

9. Forms for research travel that were lodged with Macquarie included a description of the findings. Presentation of our research was then blocked by Macquarie. The obstruction was imposed after arrangements had been made at several venues (arranged then to conform to other restrictions imposed by Macquarie). Macquarie's intervention would have silenced the release of our research.

10. Following the obstruction of research communication, as well as my earlier efforts to obtain compliance with my contract, Macquarie modified my professional duties. My role was then reduced to that of a student teaching assistant: Marking student papers for other staff - junior staff. I objected, pursuant to my appointment and provisions of my contract.

11. In February 2013, Macquarie then accused me of "misconduct", cancelling my salary. It blocked access to my office, computer resources, even to personal equipment I had transferred from the US.

My Russian student was prohibited from speaking with me. She was isolated - left without competent supervision and the resources necessary to complete her PhD investigation, research that Macquarie approved when it lured her from Russia.

12. Obligations to present our new research on greenhouse gases (previously arranged), had to be fulfilled at personal expense.

It is likely that Tim Flannery, one of the leading climate campaign thugs who is also at Macquarie, is behind this purge.

I'm still convinced that I was correct when I said in my post on Salby last month that "I suspect there are a lot more Salbys out there in the sciences in academia."  But his treatment shows how hazardous it can be to challenge the "consensus" if you aren't tenured.  Which reminds me of a story on this point.

A few years ago a young lady I know, teaching in a top environmental engineering program at a top university, was approaching her tenure review.  She had a solid record of published peer reviewed technical papers on subjects having little to do with climate, and strong teaching evaluations.  But she had written one newspaper op-ed expressing skepticism about one aspect of the climate change narrative that came squarely in her field of special expertise.  This was enough for some faculty to argue her tenure should be denied.

If you know anything about science departments in leading universities, they are desperate for women faculty.  (At MIT, I am told the science departments are to look first for a woman for every new faculty vacancy.  Unofficially, of course, since an explicit policy like this would be illegal.)  Armed with this leverage, I told my friend that she should march into the dean and tell him bluntly-"If you want to give in to this crap, go right ahead.  I'm sure if I start calling around at lunchtime I can get five offers by the end of the day from other universities."

I don't know if she spoke to the dean thusly, but she got her tenure.  Then I told her to emulate Harvey Mansfield, who, upon receiving tenure from Harvard, sent a telegram to Leo Strauss that read: "Now we raise the jolly roger!"

Question of the Day: Can Environmentalists Think?

Posted: 09 Jul 2013 05:54 AM PDT

(Steven Hayward)

No.  Let's go home.

But if you want an intelligent discussion of this question, check out Bret Stephens's column by this title in today's Wall Street Journal.  I've grown weary of pointing out the defects of environmental moralism, and have been grateful for fresh reinforcement from folks like Pascal Bruckner (review forthcoming).  But Stephens really nails it.  If you don't have a WSJ subscription or print copy, here's a highlight:

When it comes to the question of how best to transport oil, environmentalists tend to act like rabbis being asked for advice on how best to roast a pig: The thing should not be done in the first place. So opposition to Keystone XL becomes an assertion of virtue, indifferent to such lesser considerations as efficiency (or succulence).

Stephens points out that the shipping of crude oil by rail has increased from 9,500 carloads in 2008 to 233,000 last year, and since rail accidents are more prevalent than pipeline spills, guess what?  Environmentalist opposition to pipelines like Keystone will lead to increased environmental damage.  It's almost enough to merit a Green Weenie Award.  (Sigh.)

Why the Liberal lynch mob's attack on Paula Deen is an attack on all of us

Jul 09, 2013 06:13 am | Coach Collins

By Emma Karlin, staff writer

We have seen this before. The liberals decide someone has committed a violation of political correctness and assassinate their victim. It makes no difference how long ago the violation occurred or how trivial it was; the social death sentence must be carried out by the Liberal lynch mob - period.

Watching TV cooking show star Paula Deen's self-flagellation to try to "purify" herself of the sin of using the dreaded N word some twenty seven years ago is a sad and sickening spectacle. That she committed this "unpardonable" sin so long ago has been brought out by discovery in a civil suit which, of course, makes it fair game. That Deen claims that she has long since stopped using this "dreaded" word should have been enough to make this bogus "controversy" go away, but it has not. It has not gone away because the Liberal lynch mob says it can't. People like Al ... Continue Reading:Why the Liberal lynch mob's attack on Paula Deen is an attack on all of us

Good riddance to bootlicking collaborator Ray LaHood: a RINO's RINO

Jul 08, 2013 01:00 pm | Coach Collins

By Kevin "Coach" Collins

The end of June brought the end of putative Republican Ray LaHood's tenure as Barack Obama's Secretary of Transportation.

After almost twenty years of embarrassing the very name Republican we have finally seen the last of him. In another era this prize collaborator would have made a great and effective captain of the Nazi's "Jewish Police." LaHood figuratively leaves Washington with his dignity in a match box and a portrait of Benedict Arnold under his arm.

A Barack Obama boot licker to his last day, LaHood parroted Chuck Schumer's lie about the future of the Republican Party, saying, "We will not win another presidential election as Republicans unless we do something to fix the broken immigration system."

LaHood called Republican opposition to The Schumer/Rubio Amnesty Bill "..... the death knell for Republicans winning national elections for decades."

It is almost a parody of LaHood's actual life story to say he was ... Continue Reading:Good riddance to bootlicking collaborator Ray LaHood: a RINO's RINO

President Park Should Persuade China on North Korea
By Bruce Klingner

Trilateral meetings in Washington last week amongst U.S., South Korean, and Japanese officials affirmed there is no daylight whatsoever amongst the allies in their policy toward North Korea. Pyongyang has burned so many bridges over the years that now no ally is willing to re-engage before the regime proves through actions that it has changed its policy and behavior.

The Obama administration sees no benefit to yet another diplomatic foray because all previous attempts at dialogue with Pyongyang failed spectacularly. Instead, Washington prefers sitting back and letting South Korea take the lead for now.

There have been significant developments in Bangladesh in 2013 that merit close U.S. attention. The recent political volatility comes in the context of overall economic and social gains made by Bangladesh in the last decade. Join us for keynote remarks by His Excellency Akramul Qader, Ambassador of Bangladesh to the U.S., and two panels of informed experts as they discuss these and other issues related to U.S.-Bangladesh relations.

Just this past week, President Ma Ying-jeou said he would like to join the TPP upon the conclusion of new trade agreements with Singapore and New Zealand. Completion of both of those agreements is widely understood to be just around the corner. In fact, they may already be complete, waiting for a new services agreement with China to be cleared by Taiwan's legislature first.

Heritage Budget Sense

Washington in Debt Denial

"After two years of harrowing confrontations in Washington," begins a recent article in theWashington Post, "the national debt is no longer growing out of control." But our government still carries a huge load of debt, and this latest improvement certainly won't last. In fact, absent real reform, it's set to get much worse.

Social Security Insolvency Coming Sooner Than Projected
If the historical pattern continues, the Social Security trust fund could become insolvent in 2024-a full nine years sooner than currently projected. Absent reform, insolvency will result in immediate, across-the-board Social Security benefit cuts of about 23 percent. Such benefit cuts would be particularly harmful to current retirees.

How to Limit Government in the Age of Obama

In just the last week, the president announced initiatives he says will combat global warming, then announced he'll hold off on implementing an important provision of his own ObamaCare law. It's government by executive order, unlimited by any constitutional principle the Founders would recognize. But conservatives have many ways to push back.

In Congress, lawmakers can withdraw funding from agencies that overstep their bounds. States can assert their rights as separate and independent sovereigns. And all Americans can use courts to sue to limit federal agencies. Here's how to push back...

Obama's Declaration

President Obama loves the Declaration of Independence so much that he cites it endlessly, whether he's stumping for gay marriage or lecturing college graduates about their right to stay on their parent's insurance for another half decade. Unfortunately, he's entirely missing the point. So David Azerrad decided to make Obama's life a bit easier, by drafting him a fitting "Declaration of Interdependence."

Completing the Founding

No document is perfect, and that includes the Constitution. For example, when first ratified, it didn't contain sufficient provisions to protect citizens against various encroachments by state governments. That changed on this date in 1868, when the 14th Amendment was ratified.

Quote of the Week

A lady asked Dr. Franklin Well Doctor what have we got a republic or a monarchy -- "A republic," replied the Doctor, "if you can keep it."

- Benjamin Franklin, 1787

House GOP to Hold Immigration Meeting TOMORROW
Tell House Leadership You Want TRUE Immigration Reform, NOT Amnesty!

Dear True Immigration Reform Supporter,

Tomorrow afternoon-Wednesday, July 10-House Republicans will hold a special conference to debate immigration policy and whether they will support any or all of the provisions of S.744, the Senate amnesty bill. This is your chance to make a difference! Call House Leadership NOW and tell them you want TRUE immigration reform, not amnesty.

Click here to call now and use the talking points included to help you make your call.

Less than two weeks ago, the Senate passed S.744, the biggest amnesty bill in the history of the United States. The "Gang of Eight" bill, not only grants amnesty to the 12 million illegal aliens currently in the United States, it (1) doubles legal immigration in only 10 years, and (2) increases the number of guest workers by at least 50%! And, tucked into the bill's 1,200 pages are special kickbacks for Senators catering to big business interests.

This is NOT immigration reform. However, we can still stop this special-interest legislation in the House!

Will you call House leaders NOW? Urge them to reject the Senate amnesty bill and adopt TRUE Immigration Reform!

Click here for their phone numbers and suggested talking points to help you on your call.

When you call these House leaders, tell them:

Amnesty is NOT immigration reform!
Amnesty undermines the rule of law, encourages more illegal immigration, and is inherently unfair to individuals around the world who are patiently waiting in line - often for years - to legally immigrate to the United States!

You oppose increasing legal immigration.
The United States cannot even absorb the current level of legal immigration, which adds roughly 1.1 million workers (the equivalent of the city of Dallas) to the U.S. labor market each and every year. At this level, the United States economy must create at least 150,000 jobs EVERY MONTH, just to keep up with the addition of immigrant workers.

The U.S. DOES NOT NEED more guest workers!
Approximately 22 million Americans are currently unemployed or underemployed, both in high-skilled and low-skilled fields. Guest workers take job opportunities from American workers, discourage Americans from entering certain fields, and depress wages. Immigration policy should prioritize American workers first.

We need to enforce the laws already in place! Immigration reform means securing our borders and robustly enforcing our immigration laws across the country. This means preventing illegal border crossings, stopping visa overstays, and enforcing immigration laws across the country. It also means ending the Obama Administration's blatant dismissal of federal law and reversing its "prosecutorial discretion" policies.

Strong, Mandatory E-Verify policies are needed.
E-Verify must be MANDATORY, without exception and without watering down the program or penalties to appease big business. In addition, workplace enforcement policies must punish both employers and illegal workers to create deterrence on both ends.

* There should be zero tolerance for sanctuary policies. There should be zero tolerance for states and local governments who encourage illegal immigration through sanctuary policies, especially through laws policies that restrict the ability of state and local law enforcement agencies to transfer custody of illegal aliens to federal agents.

* Congress should protect U.S. Taxpayers. American taxpayers should NOT be forced to subsidize illegal immigration through benefits, tax credits and other programs designed to help struggling American families.

House Republicans will meet in less than 48 hours, so there is no time to waste!

Click here to call these GOP leaders now and tell them what TRUE immigration reform means to you!

Sincerely,

-FAIR

A joint resolution proposing an amendment to the Constitution of the United States relating to marriage.

July 8, 2013

Congressman Tim Huelskamp of Kansas has introduced the Marriage Protection Amendment (H.J. RES. 51). This amendment to the U.S. Constitution would make marriage legal only between a man and a woman. The amendment states"

Marriage in the United States shall consist only of the union of a man and a woman. Neither this Constitution, nor the constitution of any State, shall be construed to require that marriage or the legal incidents thereof be conferred upon any union other than the union of a man and a woman.

If you haven't heard about this, it is because the liberal media oppose it. So if they simply refuse to report it, citizens will know nothing about it and will not act on it.

As you know, the Supreme Court has opened the door for homosexual marriage. Their recent rulings on DOMA and Prop 8 have emboldened gay activists to push even harder.

A Federal Marriage Amendment will finally put an end to activist judges tampering with the will of the people. Rep. Huelskamp needs co-sponsors for H.J. RES. 51. Please contact you Representative and ask him to co-sponsor H.J. RES. 51. Homosexual activists are determined to force homosexual marriage on America by using activist liberal judges, like those on the Supreme Court.

It is very important that you forward this alert to your friends and family members.

Glenn Beck Glenn on Obama: "He's so Woodrow Wilson it's sickening"

Earlier this week, Obama had the nerve to say his government is 'doing things right' despite a mountain of evidence suggesting otherwise. His proof? We are 'tracking weather better' now. Never mind the $17 trillion dollar debt, the spying on citizens, the IRS targeting of conservatives, and the failure of Obamacare before it's even started -- government is totally doing things right! Glenn responds on radio today.

Trayvon Martin case falling apart

We are nearly two weeks into the George Zimmerman trial, and it is beginning to look like legally, this case shouldn't have even made it this far. Regardless of what one thinks of Zimmerman, there is less and less evidence that warrants convicting him of second-degree murder. Earlier this week, we learned Trayvon's dad testified that he did not think it was his son's voice on the critical 9-1-1 call. Glenn reacts to the dwindling case against Zimmerman on radio today.
