As night fell on June 27, 2005, four U.S. Navy Seals dropped from a helicopter onto mountainous, enemy-controlled terrain in Afghanistan to begin a high-risk mission. Lt. Michael Murphy and petty officers Matthew Axelson, Danny Dietz, and Marcus Luttrell had orders to locate a terrorist leader. The team picked its way across rugged terrain and by morning had taken up position on a steep ridge, but three goat herders stumbled across their hiding place and alerted local Taliban forces. About an hour later, dozens of enemy fighters swarmed around the four Americans. A firefight erupted as the Seals bounded down the mountainside, hoping to reach a place to make a stand. With one man dead and the other two wounded, and realizing that their only chance was to call for help, Murphy made the ultimate sacrifice. He moved into open ground where he could get a phone signal, exposing himself to fire. "My guys are dying out here . . . we need help," he told headquarters, just before being shot in the back. He pulled himself up, finished relaying their position, and signed off with, "Roger that, sir. Thank you." Then he started firing again. By the time the fight was over, Murphy, Axelson, and Deitz were dead. A rescue helicopter carrying 16 men was shot down by a Taliban rocket, killing all aboard. Some 35 Taliban fighters died. In 2007, Michael Murphy was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his courage and loyalty. Marcus Luttrell, the only team member to make it through the operation alive, summed up Murphy's final act in his book Lone Survivor: "His objective was clear: to make one last valiant attempt to save his two teammates. . . . Not a gesture. An act of supreme valor."

Russia evacuates Tartus, also military, diplomatic personnel from Syria. High war alert in Israel
June 26, 2013
 | Putin and Obama Cross Swords on Syria. What Next? |
Shortly after the DEBKA aired a special video on the Syrian war's widening circle, Moscow announced Wednesday June 26, that the evacuation which had begun Friday of all military and diplomatic personnel from Syria was now complete, including the Russian naval base at Tartus.
"Russia decided to withdraw its personnel because of the risks from the conflict in Syria, as well as the fear of an incident involving the Russian military that could have larger consequences," said a defense ministry official in Moscow. He stressed that a 16-ship naval task force in the eastern Mediterranean remains on post and arms shipments, including anti-air weapons, would continue to the Syrian government in keeping with former contracts.
In another sign of an impending escalation in Syria, the Israeli Golan brigade staged Wednesday an unannounced war maneuver on the Golan, attended by Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and top army chiefs. In London, Prime Minister David Cameron called the government's National Security Council into session in Downing Street on Syria. Opposition leader Ed Milliband was invited to attend the meeting, a custom observed only when issues of the highest security importance are discussed.
Earlier Wednesday, DEBKAfile carried the following report in its special video presentation under the heading: Putin and Obama cross swords on Syrian. What Next?

Exclusive: Banned Cleric's Outspoken Deputy Visits White House
by Steven Emerson and John Rossomando IPT News June 26, 2013
Radical Egyptian cleric Yusuf Qaradawi is considered so radical that the United States banshim from entering the country.
Qaradawi, considered the spiritual leader of the Muslim Brotherhood movement, has called for the killing of Jews andAmericans.
That history makes the June 13 White House meeting with Sheik Abdullah Bin Bayyahall the more inexplicable. Bin Bayyah is vice president of the International Union of Muslim Scholars (IUMS), a group founded by and headed by Qaradawi. The IUMS has a long history of supporting Hamas -a top Hamas leader is an IUMS member - and of calling for Israel's destruction.
Bin Bayyah's website claims that he met June 13 with senior Obama administration officials at the White House.
Nonetheless, it was the Obama administration which sought the meeting with Bin Bayyah, his website's account said.

Barack Obama Global Preparation Academy/Obama's Plan to Ratchet up Agenda 21 in the US
We are going to see Agenda 21 kick into high gear. And Obama will bypass Congress to do it. The only way to stop him is through funding. Start calling your US Representative NOW and while you are running down the list of things you want them to vote against PLEASE ask them to defund Obama's green agenda. We either stop this or you better buy stock in a candle company and buy yourself a bike because you won't be able to afford a car or to turn the lights on. Once he forces us out of our cars the only choice many people will have will be to move closer to public transportation. I was talking to our county school supervisor. He told me we lost a lot of BEP money (this is money given to schools based on student headcount) because 178 students left Polk County schools (we are a very small county so this is a large number for our area). I asked him why.....he told me the biggest reason he was given was because gas was so expensive they were moving closer to their job. Immigration, Obamacare, and now his green agenda....this is a formula for destruction. UPDATE about Obama's school in CA: Could this school be a training center for Obama's Youth?? Snooping around the website for the school brings suspicion about what goes on in this school. There are also articles about sexual abuse at this school. If interested do some google searches on this school. http://bogpa-lausd-ca.schoolloop.com/accomplishments If you have never heard of Agenda 21 I encourage you to start learning about it. What we are seeing in education is part of Agenda 21 (Chapter 36 of a 40 chapter guide to transform ever human activity). This school is a glimpse of our future. Today President Obama is going to announce his Executive Orders to bypass Congress and put A21 on steroids. You better buy stock in candle companies because you are going to need a lot of them. This is an actual school in LosAngeles, CA

CWA Hosts Nation-Wide "Facts about Common Core Conference Call"
Calling all parents and grandparents! There is a power grab unfolding within your local school system. And it's time you know the truth.
Over the past three years, the Secretary of Education Arne Duncan has been quietly working to seize control of the American education system without any input by the states. As a part of President Barak Obama's stimulus package, Race to the Top grant money was earmarked for education initiatives in the states. Tied to this money is the progressive Common Core State Standards Initiative (CCSS) and the results could be devastating to parent's rights and our respective states' education system.
It is imperative that you understand the CCSS initiative and how it will affect your child's classroom.
Please join CWA's nation-wide "Facts Common Core Conference Call" on June 27 at 8:30 p.m. EDT, as CWA's Executive Director, Kenda Bartlett, moderates the discussion on exactly what is the CCSS, the program's origins and the steps you can take to educate yourself and others on the Common Core.
Expert guests will include:
- Joy Pullmann, Heartland Institute
- Dr. Sandra Stotsky, Common Core Validation Committee Member
- Richard Innes, Bluegrass Institute
Please don't miss this unique opportunity.
Call (760) 569-7676, and enter the participant access code 303989 to join the conference call.
Most states adopting CCSS did so to be eligible to compete for federal funding. To have a chance at that money, recession-racked states agreed to adopt the CC standards and the aligned national tests sight unseen. Only five states did not sign on to the CCSS; so unless you live in Alaska, Nebraska, Minnesota, Texas, or Virginia, this will affect your school system.
So please, learn everything you need to know about Common Core on CWA's "Facts about Common Core Conference Call".
Sincerely,
Penny Nance Chief Executive Officer and President

FROM THE DIRECTOR OF GODS AND GENERALS AND GETTYSBURG COMES THE LIBERTY MOVIE OF THE YEAR
RON MAXWELL'S COPPERHEAD
For anyone who reveres and believes in the preservation of the Constitution of the United States, Copperhead is a must see this summer!
Copperhead is unlike any Civil War movie to date. It is a film of the war at home - of a family ripped apart by war, of a community driven to an appalling act of vengeance against a man who insists on exercising his right to free speech during wartime. A story of the violent passions and burning feuds that set ablaze the homefront during the Civil War, Copperhead the movie is also a timeless and deeply moving examination of the price of dissent, the place of the individual amidst the hysteria of wartime, and the terrible price of war - a cost measured not in dollars but in fractured families, broken loves, and men dead before their time.
Based on the extraordinary novel by Harold Frederic, who witnessed these conflicts firsthand as a small child, Copperhead tells the story of Abner Beech, a stubborn and righteous farmer of Upstate New York, who defies his neighbors and his government in the bloody and contentious autumn of 1862.

Dear Members,
This is it!! We have a small window in which to act! The State budget is due on June 30th so the timing is right. Call! Let the representatives in our State government know we are aware. We know what they did back in 2001 and we want them to undo it! We know their pension plans are responsible for PA's $47 billion unfunded liability which is equivalent to $3700 for each Pennsylvanian. We know this pension crisis will cause more cuts to educational programs and more teacher layoffs. Demand they take taxpayers off the hook for their lavish pension packages. Go here to find your representatives - http://tinyurl.com/m4yyd2l
Inform yourself with the attached pamphlet . PA state workers pension program violates Fiscal Responsibility and Constitutionally Limited Government. Our public servant representatives need to fix the problem of untenable state worker pensions. It's not that we resent paying it, it's just that we can't afford it. Action Items 1. Call your representative and Senator and tell them you want to see pension reform that brings our state budget into balance. Talk to two friends or family members and convince them to make the phone calls and get two others to do the same, and so on, and so on.
from Bill Hodson for your reference.
2. Print the attached pamphlet using duplex (2-sided); check box for "flip on short edge". Give it to as many neighbors as you can the next 2 weeks. If you need some mailed, send me your address.
Keep an eye on your email inbox because we will be planning more activities focused on our goals of pension reform as well as privatization of our liquor stores
Thanks for your efforts Pam, Jim and Tim

 Dear RedStater,
We are excited to announce that Governor Nikki Haley will be attending this year's RedState Gathering!
We'll be in New Orleans August 2nd and 3rd with an all-star line-up to celebrate our Fifth Annual event. Nikki Haley hosted us two years ago in South Carolina where she hosted a great welcome reception and gave a fantastic speech that really got the crowd fired up on Saturday morning. We are thrilled to welcome her back to the RedState Gathering in New Orleans.
Confirmed speakers include:
 | | | | | | | | | Ted Cruz | | Ken Cuccinelli | | Nikki Haley | | Bobby Jindal | | Jim Bridenstine |
Speaker invitations have also been extended to:
- | Gov. Rick Perry (TX) | - | Sen. Marco Rubio (FL) | - | Liz Cheney | - | Rep. Mick Mulvaney (SC) | - | Sen. Tim Scott (SC) | - | Rep. Steve Scalise (LA) | - | And more! |
We'll have plenty more speaker announcements coming shortly, but we're guaranteed to have a good mix of elected officials, potential 2014 cycle candidates, and other RedState friends. Remember, the Gathering is unique in conservative events in that speakers pay their own way and are required to take questions from folks in the audience.
What better excuse for a trip to New Orleans? And, don't forget, your registration even includes most of your food, as well as access to deeply discounted hotel rooms.
2013 RedState Gathering Where: New Orleans, Louisiana When: Friday, August 2nd and Saturday, August 3rd Click here to learn more and register now
Sincerely,
 Erick Erickson Editor-in-Chief, RedState

From a trusted friend:
As some of you may know, I am associated with Coventry Christian Schools as a parent of a graduate (2010) and as member of the Board of Trustees. Last October we spent a wonderful evening honoring Mark Niehls at our revitalized Founder's Dinner and celebrated our shared heritage in the remarkable community that is Coventry Christian Schools. Our vision for future Founder's Dinners is to inspire and inform not only our alumni and current CCS families but to inspire and inform the Tri-County Area and even our region by hosting speakers and artists who can uniquely assist us in celebrating the heritage, core values, and mission of CCS while also lifting our vision for an even greater future built upon the foundation of our past. The caliber of our speakers and guest artists should provide us with wonderful opportunities to share our CCS story with new partners in Christian education. Proceeds from the dinner will be applied to our annual Coventry Kids Fund for CCS scholarships.
This year we are proud to announce that our distinguished guest and speaker is Dr. Benjamin Carson, and our dinner's theme is "Faith of Our Fathers: The Role of Faith in American Schools." Please join us as we welcome Dr. Carson to the Tri-County Area and celebrate the great things God is doing at CCS!
Dr. Carson is a highly regarded neurosurgeon and motivational speaker who has addressed various audiences across the country. He is one of the most honored and recognized physicians in the world and holds more than 60 honorary doctorate degrees along with hundreds of awards and citations. He is a recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honor in the United States. He is the author of five books and is the founder of the Carson Scholars Fund. The 2009 award-winning movie entitled Gifted Hands: The Ben Carson Story, starring Cuba Gooding, Jr. as Carson, premiered on TNT and is based on his memoir. Dr. Carson is an authentic disciple of Christ, has been married to his wife Candy for more than 37 years, and is the father of three sons.
The 2013 Founder's Dinner, which will once again be a part of our Homecoming festivities, will be held at the historic Sunnybrook Ballroom in Pottstown on Sunday, October 13th, 2013. Doors will open at 4:30pm, followed by dinner at 5:15. Dress will be business/professional. Tickets will be priced at $100 until May 15th, then will be $125, so reserve your tickets for the reduced price.
Due to Dr. Carson's international reputation and recent prominence in the media, including his recent speech at the 2013 National Prayer Breakfast, we fully anticipate that this event will sell out quickly once advertised to the public. Tickets go on sale to the public April 15. If you are interested in attending, tickets can be purchased online. I will send the link out to those who wish to go on April 15
th
. While online reservations are preferred because they facilitate efficient event planning, you may also complete a paper order form, which I can forward to you as well.
All of us at Coventry Christian Schools, look forward to sharing this very special evening with you and acquainting you with the school and its mission!
Blessings,
Christine Gordon

WHAT IS COMMON CORE?Common Core, or the Common Core State Standards Initative (CCSSI), as it is known at the State and Federal level, is a set of national education standards that will fulfill the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act, through a waiver system. (The NCLB Act was put into place by Congress in 2001 and signed into law by President George W. Bush). Many states were failing to meet the NCLB Act requirements and, therefore, wanted something to replace NCLB.Common Core is part of the UN's plan for complete federal control over our education systems and the "Dumbing-down" of America. Common Core State Standards Initiative (CCSSI) are not state standards in the first place, and are nothing more then further federalization of our state education systems. COMMON CORE IS A TROJAN HORSE AND TIED TO THE UNITED NATIONS (UN)If you cannot see that Common Core is tied to the United Nations you have not done your homework! The major funder of the Common Core Movement is the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation which has pledged $60 million dollars to this effort. Bill and Melinda Gates are tied to UN through-and-through and have spent money in America and overseas for UN programs in Africa and all over the world for decades. From the Conservative Teachers of American organization, they wrote an article entitled: "Common Core Standards and the Federalization of Education." In this article we read: "Many are concerned that the Common Core Standards, once successfully implemented, will provide unfettered access of our educational system by the United Nations. Some textbooks and curricula for our public schools have already been written by the [United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization] UNESCO and the International Baccalaureate program, that is currently in many school districts, across the United States. Grabbing additional access is a natural next step. Once they write the curricula, they must have authority to develop all testing tools."
The UN involvement in the American educational system has already been facilitated by treaties signed by American presidents from both parties. Those documents include but are not limited to: Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Treaty on the Rights of the Child, Civic Education: Classroom Connections, and Agenda 21. The US Partnership for Education for Sustainable Development (since 2003), is the nexus of the UNA-USA and Global Leadership Coalition at the Department of Education, which altogether leverages the UN Decade on Education for Sustainable Development 2005-2014. UNESCO, the lead agency of the Decade, defines Education for Sustainable Development as "education for everyone everywhere" for the "lifelong learning" of "present and future generations". The UNA-USA sponsors Model UN across America and tailors its Global Classrooms curricula to whichever setting the kids happen to be participating. Children are unknowingly trained to respond with prescribed consensus to the situations, simulations and stimulation's of the particular activity (Delphi Technique). Global Kids is the CFR arm of Connect All Schools Consortium, a new Department of Education network, led by Independent Sector and The White House via United Planet Partners. Global Kids is preparing children for Agenda 21. The White House, NSA and CIA now have website divisions aimed at kids. The Public Education Network is a national association funded by Independent Sector donors: plus Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, the Carnegie Corporation of New York and the Department of Education "Funders" of the Rockefeller Foundation-backed International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLEI), "Members" of the the Sustainability Consortium, backed by the EPA and BSR (Rockefeller Foundation, Rockefeller Brothers Fund, State Department) and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation-backed International City/County Management Association (ICMA): Center for Sustainable Communities (an ICLEI "Partner") are "partnered" with local schools and governments. From the Partnership for 21st Century Skills aligning the Common Core State Standards with "professional development" content for teachers and principals and Lego Robotics curricula for students (Carnegie Mellon/Lego Education); to software curricula through websites like: cyberschoolbus.un.org, icivics.org, atomiclearning.com, renlearn.org, brainpop.com and ttl4.sunburst.com; to the weekly deliveries of Time for Kids magazine and textbook curricula into classrooms; kids are programmed with UN-defined values. State Governors administer Federal funds to "Community-Oriented Policing" systems like Crime Stoppers (The UN, FBI and other law enforcement and corporate partners administer Crime Stoppers International), the local student-equivalent of the Department of Homeland Security's' "See Something, Say Something" campaign; whereby children see hand-drawn posters of child characters on school walls displaying "Eyes Looking", "Ears Listening", "Mouth Reporting" with a hotline to call. Presidents Bush and Obama have personally followed the George H. W. Bush/Clinton trail of the Agenda 21/ Sustainable America megabanks-maze in "bipartisan" fashion. UNESCO PLEDGES SUPPORT OF COMMON COREFrom UNESCO's document "The Vision of Education Reform in the United States" it states: "My department has been pleased to partner with the US Agency for International Development to help ensure that our best domestic practices are shared world-wide. The United States provides over a billion dollars annually to partner countries working on educational reform. Our goal for the coming year will be to work closely with global partners, including UNESCO, to promote qualitative improvements and system strengthening....Ultimately, education is the great equalizer. It is the one force that can consistently overcome differences in background, culture, and privilege." THE UN'S AGENDA 21- COMMON CORE IMPLEMENTER!In the United Nations Agenda 21 (Guide for the 21st Century), Chapters #25 and #36 specifically talk about education of our children: Principle #25- "Children and Youth in Sustainable Development." In the "Activites 25.9.d" it states: "Ensure access for all youth to all types of education, wherever appropriate, providing alternative learning structures, ensure that education reflects the economic and social needs of youth and incorporates the concepts of environmental training, implementing innovative methods aimed at increasing practical skills, such as environmental scouting." Principle #36- "Promoting Education, Public Awareness and Training." In the Activities Section of this document in "36.5.g" we read: "Within two years the United Nations system should undertake a comprehensive review of its educational programmes, encompassing training and public awareness, to reassess priorites and reallocae resources. The UNESCO/UNEP International Environmental Education Programme should, in cooperation with the appropriate bodies of the United Nations system, Governments, non-governmental organizations and others, establish a porgramme within two years to integrate the decisions of the Conference into the existing United Nations framework adapted to the need of the educators at different levels and circumstances. Regional organizations and national authorities should be encouraged to elaborate similar parallel programmes and opportunies by conducting an analysis of how to mobilize different sectors of the population in order to assess and address their environmental and development education needs." In the Activities Section of this document in "36.5 h" we read: "There is a need to strengthen, within five years, information exchange by enhancing technologies and capacities necessary to promote environment and development education and public awareness. Countries should cooperate with each other and with the various social sectors and population groups to prepare educational tools that include regional environment and development issues and initiatives, using learning materials and resources suited to their own requirements." Sounds just like PARCC and SLDS. ASU's Institute for Global Sustainability and their "Sustainable Cities Network" is doing a fine job "brain-washing" our students in our high schools on sustainability, global warming (aka climate change), etc. Go here to meet the ASU sustainability schools! COMMON CORE SCIENCE STANDARDS TEACH GLOBAL WARMING!The new Common Core Science Standards that are up for review teach Global Warming (aka Climate Change)! Here is Research and Commentary on the Common Core Science Standards" from The Heartland Institute.
Please spread the word to all AMERICAN PATRIOTS!
Reality Check.....COMMON CORE EDUCATION = COMMUNISM IN AMERICA!
Common Core Education is the INDOCTRINATION of our CHILDREN. DO NOT LISTEN TO THE GOP ESTABLISHMENT RHETORIC FROM MIKE HUCKABEE!!!
Reality Check- just in case you ever had a doubt......MIke Huckabee is a typical GOP Establishment person.
Mike Huckabee is now championing Common Core Education on Fox News for the GOP! How disgusting is that?!?!? "Mike Huckabee Urges Conservatives to Back Common Core Standards"
This is another reason why Constitutional Conservatives MUST leave the GOP and beware of what you hear on Fox News. Fox News continues to move to the left - to the liberal progressive side of issues. That is the very very sad but true fact. Mr. GOP Huckabee....."It's disturbing to me there have been criticisms of these standards directed by other conservatives including the RNC," Huckabee wrote. "The truth of the matter is, these criticisms are short-sighted." see attached article from Sunshine News. Send a message to Mr. GOP Huckabee at http://www.mikehuckabee.com/masterfeedback and send a loud message to the every more liberal progressive Fox News! Americans that believe in our Constitution must not be silent about this! Do NOT let Fox News get away with promoting the very liberal progressive Common Core Education that promotes the ideology that American Children are Common/Community Property! Do NOT let Fox News get away with promoting the loss of state's rights and the federal government taking over Education. WE NEED TO ABOLISH THE FEDERAL DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION - NOT EMPOWER IT! If you support SOCIALISM AND COMMUNISM FOR THE U.S.A. then COMMON CORE EDUCATION IS FOR YOU. If you believe in the U.S.A. CONSTITUTION....then YOU WILL LOUDLY AND OPENLY REJECT AND OPPOSE COMMON CORE EDUCATION AND ANYONE THAT PROMOTES IT!! Common Core Education is the indoctrination of American Children. This is NOT acceptable if you still believe in FREEDOM!! Sally Baptiste www.blogtalkradio.com/americanstatesman
The proponents of Common Core say that the standards ARE state led because they were developed by The National Governors' Association.
Well, perhaps this is true in a way that is very disturbing! Listen to this speech at the 1989 NGA conference on education (at 12:48).
 | The Development of Common Core, Explained by Michael Chapman |
The video says this is a clip from the 1989 National Governors'Assoc conference on Education: Sr. Director of Mid-Continental Regional Education Laboratory, Dr. Shirley McCune She says about education: #1) Total transformation of our society #2) Teaching of facts and information (knowledge) is no longer the primary purpose of education #3) Close connection between economic (sustainable) development and human capitol (human resource labor for a planned economy) A group that allowed this kind of rhetoric to be said at their meeting? I don't think I want them developingeducational standards! Please read to the bottom for transcripts from the 1987 NGA meetings chaired by Bill Clinton. These transcripts are eye-opening. They are clearly more concerned with workers for the manufacturing. They seem to have concerns that we have students who can't read well enough (non-English speaking especially) to function in the manufacturing plants, and then on the other end of the spectrum... too many with higher ed degrees who don't WANT to work in the manufacturing. So... what to do about all this? Hummm.... standards! Make sure they read well enough to function as the industrial workers, but not so well that they don't want to!!! This is the John D. Rockefeller goal of the early 20th century when he started pushing for compulsory government schooling and funding the building of government schools.
NOW.... review the transcripts below of the conferences chaired by Bill Clinton: National Governor's Association website (find all annual meetings here with transcriptsm- ) 1986-87 NGA Chair Gov. Bill Clinton's Initiative Making America Work: Productive People, Productive Policies March 25, 1986 1987 Winter Meeting with Bill Clinton as chair, you will find on page 12 that the governors unanimously adopted a policy to adopt an INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION POLICY. http://www.nga.org/files/live/sites/NGA/files/pdf/1987NGAWinterMeeting.pdf 1987 Annual meeting. See page 34of this document to see how those governors seem to be concerned that we aren't training our students for the "workforce." They are concerned that the professors of higher ed are telling students to strive for more than the job of working in the manufacturing plants. On page 40 they start talking about standards needed in education. " See page 42 with this statement by Governor Sinner (great name!) to Lee Iacoccoa: "But you also made a point about the terrific cost to industry of the disparity between states in these regulations and I wondered, with all the fuss and the furor that we make over states' rights...." http://www.nga.org/files/live/sites/NGA/files/pdf/1987NGAAnnualMeeting.pdf June 11, 2013: Sen. Tom Harkin (D-IA) leads the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee in a markup of the Strengthening America's Schools Act of 2013, an education initiative to replace No Child Left Behind. http://www.c-spanvideo.org/event/220036 At the June 10 Common Core forum in Fayette County, Superintendent Barge stated over and over again that if Georgia wants to change these standards at any time, we have the ability to do so. The testimony below contradicts this belief by Superintendent Barge and confirms that states who adopted the Common Core standards DO NOT have the ability to change the standards in any way on their own. 2:23:00 - Rep. Tim Scott discusses his amendment to Harkin's bill. Instead of states being forced to adopt blanket standards like Common Core as a prerequisite for funding, let's put decision-making back in the hands of parents and teachers in our communities." 2:31:00 - It is admitted that states who want to change the CC standards, the Secretary of Education would have to approve it. States DO NOT have the ultimate decision making abilities! 2:39:00 - Alexander reads page 89 of the bill stating that any changes to standards MUST go through the Secretary of Education for approval. As are most of the amendments offered by Republicans to this education bill, the Scott Amendment is defeated 12-10. DATA COLLECTING: Senator Burr at the 1:00:00 mark reveals information about ADDITIONAL data points that this legislation will add to the data mining. He says that his count is now 500 data points. TEACHER EVALUATIONS: Senator Alexander at 2:00:00 mark discusses his amendment to end federally mandated school and teacher evaluations. He says states had a "gun to their head" to adopt the teacher evaluations because they were desperate for NCLB waivers. He makes the charge that the Harkin bill creates a "NATIONAL SCHOOL BOARD." The Gates Foundation involvement is mentioned frequently. Harkin says over and over "this is voluntary." If states don't want to implement the programs in the bill we just don't accept the money!" More strong evidence that our states need to "just say no" to all federal education dollars. As is pointed out in this debate: Any private business that entered into a partnership where the partner who contributed 10% funding got 80-90% of the control (as is the case with education funding under NCLB and Common Core) the partnership is DOOMED TO FAIL! Tom DeWeese:
The Growing Threat of Smart Meters
Sustainable Development is code for a policy designed to transform human society, essentially eliminating individual life decisions and replacing them with top - down, one-size-fits-all government control. In steady fashion, the agenda for this new policy, designed at the international level, is put into place piece by piece with a new government council here, and new regulation there, each designed to appear as a "local" development program. Like the proverbial frog in the slowly boiling pot, many Americans fail to notice the rise in government heat. The main course of action to impose the new agenda is through the pretense of environmental protection; "Sorry about your rights, but if we don't save the planet, then we will all perish!" And so with the devastation of a thousand pin pricks, America and its form or government is being changed through the creation of non-elected boards, councils and regional governments, designed to enforce the new regulations and "assure that we protect the environment."
The pin pricks come disguised as such issues as controls on community development; controls on use of private property; controls on use of open space; creation of development areas, many times under the excuse of historic preservation; communities designed on the blue print of pack and stack housing; making it harder to drive as roads are narrowed, even forcing cars to share the road with bicycles; the enforcement of expensive mass transit boondoggle projects; and the never ending spending spree on inefficient, unworkable alternative energy, such as wind and solar power.
In fact, control of energy and water are the two most effective tools in the enforcement of the Sustainable Development agenda. Without energy and water, human society stops. Using strict controls on how, or even if, energy and water can be used provides government with the power to dictate every aspect of society.

Mandatory Biometric Enrollment Lawsuit - UPDATE (fingerprinting, facial recognition, iris scan, DNA, etc.) By Mark Lerner: Co-Founder Constitutional Alliance
If you value liberty and understand how dangerous government mandated biometric ID is to our freedom, you need to read and understand every word of what I am writing about today. Something very important is happening so stay with me. Over the years, the Constitutional Alliance has consistently fought against mandatory biometric ID and for the right of all citizens to be free of it. Government mandated biometric ID is the lynchpin of the modern surveillance society. The amount of control this system gives government over individuals is an anathema to a free society and we oppose it being imposed on anyone - period. You cannot reconcile a free society with a surveillance society. The founders of this country called religious freedom "the first freedom" because it is a precondition for other important rights.. Try to imagine the value of freedom of speech, or freedom of association without religious freedom and you will quickly see why religious freedom, also referred to as 'freedom of conscience' is so important. Here is the Big News This past week, 19 June 2013, a Motion for Summary Judgment was filed in Kaye Beach's lawsuit in the state of Oklahoma (You can read it here). This is a pre-trial motion that presents the undisputed facts of her case and makes the strongest assertion based on those facts, that her rights are being violated. The Motion for Summary Judgment asks the Judge, based on these undisputed facts, to rule in her favor. Kaye fully expects a favorable ruling on this Motion but in the event that this doesn't happen, her lawsuit will continue on. You need only to read the first 30 pages of the Motion to understand the arguments Kaye and her attorneys have made. If you choose to read further you can read about the answers the Department of Public Safety (the department that oversees the issuance of driver's licenses) gave to Kaye's "Discovery Motion". Kaye Beach's lawsuit, is the only substantial challenge to government mandated biometric ID, to my knowledge, that exists anywhere in our country. Here is a brief recap of the issue and basis for Kaye's legal challenge; Kaye is opposed to mandatory biometric identification which is required of her if she wishes to have a state issued driver's license or ID card. As we know, the ability to drive a vehicle and also banking, many financial transactions, as well as a host of other necessary daily activities are dependent upon having a government issued photo ID most commonly presented in the form of state driver's license or ID card. Try to go without one and you will soon find (like Kaye has!) that not having a valid ID is no small matter. In September, 2011 Kaye filed a lawsuit against the state of Oklahoma for the unwarranted collection of her biometrics and for violating her religious freedom, both of which are protected under Oklahoma law. Kaye is a born again Christian. Here is why this case is important for everyone

We must stop the call for a Constitutional Convention!
Article V of the Constitution:
- Gives NO guidelines for how to conduct a Con Con.
- NO rules on how delegates will be eligible or selected
- States have NO Guarantees they will even be represented
- Con Con could result in a COMPLETE CHANGE of our way of government
- There simply are NO controls over the delegates once selected.
We must stop the call for a Constitutional Convention!
I have enclosed a vitally important petition. I desperately hope you will immediately sign. I am not exaggerating when I say the future of our nation is at stake. I am becoming more alarmed by the day. Because the drive to force a Constitutional Convention (Con Con) is growing stronger. I am getting phone calls and notes from APC supporters telling me that they are receiving appeals asking them to support a Con Con. I am seeing more and more articles in Conservative publications supporting the call for a Constitutional Convention. The Internet is full of such messages. Many in the Tea Party are beginning to support the idea of a Con Con. Those pushing the idea are powerful and well funded. Every single state government and all state legislators in the nation have received very expensive, professionally-produced packages detailing how a Con Con could be called and controlled for a Conservative agenda. This is an outright lie. A Con Con can not be controlled and there can be no guarantee that delegates will do anything they are instructed to do. By calling a Con Con our precious Constitution will be placed on an operating table and cut to ribbons. Nothing is more dangerous to our Republic. But the movement for a Constitutional Convention is gaining strength. Conservatives are being targeted because of our love of the Constitution and our frustration over how it is being ignored by those leading our government. The effort is misguided, dangerous and just plan wrong. We must stop this movement now. Urgent: I have enclosed a petition to your state's Governor asking him/her not to sign on to the Con Con movement. You and I must deliver thousands of these petitions to every single Governor as fast as we can. They must know that Americans across the nation do not support this certain destruction of our Constitution. Please sign your petition and we will email it immediately to your state governor. This new Con Con effort is very serious. The organizers are misguided in thinking they can control a Con Con once it has been called. But that's what they are telling state legislators and Governors. And many who truly want to fix our problems are starting to believe it. Read more: |
This week in voter ID news...
NATIONAL
True the Vote Statement Regarding the U.S. Supreme Court's Voting Rights Act Decision - "An active electorate is the key to a healthy, representative republic. It is our responsibility to engage, serve and question our election systems. Today the average voter was returned an immense power in the American experiment. God help us if we do not use it wisely."
NAACP President Offers Bizarre Reason for Abolishing Voter ID Laws: Transgenders - At a Netroots Nation panel Friday on "voting rights," Jealous argued that in addition to all the other reasons he thinks Americans shouldn't have to show a photo ID when voting, Voter ID laws should be abolished because they put transgender Americans at a disadvantage.
MISSISSIPPI
Miss. Voter ID Law Expected to be Used by 2014 - Mississippi voters could have to start showing photo identification at the polls by the June 2014 federal primaries, Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann said Tuesday after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that certain state and local governments no longer need federal approval to change their own election laws or procedures.
NEW HAMPSHIRE
DOJ and NH's Criminal Investigation of James O'Keefe's Voter ID Video - PJ Media has obtained documents demonstrating that the New Hampshire attorney general was in discussions with Eric Holder's Department of Justice regarding filing criminal charges against journalist James O'Keefe after he exposed vulnerabilities in New Hampshire's electoral system in the January 10, 2012, presidential primary.
NORTH CAROLINA
NC Senator: Voter ID Bill Moving Ahead with Ruling - A key leader in the North Carolina General Assembly says voter identification legislation will pick up steam again because the U.S. Supreme Court has struck down part of the Voting Rights Act.
PENNSYLVANIA
Trial to Begin on PA Voter ID Law - Civil libertarians who contend that the statute violates voters' rights persuaded a state judge to bar enforcement of the photo ID requirement during the 2012 presidential election and the May primary. But those were temporary orders based on a narrower context; the trial set to begin July 15 in Commonwealth Court will explore the more complicated constitutional questions.
TEXAS
Photo ID Now Required for Voting in Texas - Texas Secretary of State John Steen today announced that photo identification will now be required when voting in Texas elections. His announcement follows a decision Tuesday by the U.S. Supreme Court that cleared the way for photo ID requirements in Texas, originally passed by the Texas Legislature in 2011, to take effect.

Tell your state lawmakers to take action on responsible public pension reform
Contact your representative, senator today!
Pennsylvania's two public pension systems face an unfunded liability of $47 billion and growing! If elected officials don't resolve the debt and take steps to create a sustainable system, taxpayers will be left holding the bag. And the use of more state dollars to pay for the pension debt means less money for core government programs, like education.
Creating a sustainable system
Bills are on the move in the state House and Senate that would, beginning in 2015, establish a defined contribution pension system, similar to 401(k)-style plans widely used in the private sector, for new state hires.
Citizens to Protect PA Jobs believes that creating a pension system that controls long-term costs is in the best interest of state workers and taxpayers, and paves the way for addressing the pension debt, which could reach $65 billion by 2018 as more baby boomers retire.
Take action!
Our schools, taxpayers and communities can't afford the cost of inaction! Time is running out to accomplish this goal by June 30. Contact your senator and representative today and urge them to approve this important first step BEFORE they take their summer break.
Thank you for your time and interest,
Citizens to Protect PA Jobs

Educational freedom is under attack in Pennsylvania. If you haven't heard, Common Core is the top-down education takeover that will force children to learn under a curriculum developed by special interests.
Thankfully, State Representatives John Lawrence, Stephen Bloom, Rob Kauffman, and Will Tallman have introduced legislation to push back against this progressive assault on education.
Thank these lawmakers for fighting back against Common Core.
Common Core threatens how your community and local schools are run. It will serve as a vehicle for data-mining on students, undermining American history in the classroom, and spreading Progressive values.
But now we can fight back and assist Representatives who want to preserve community-control of schools.
Give these lawmakers a call and thank them for their efforts.
Together, we can beat Common Core.

RedState Morning Briefing
For June 27, 2013
1. Yes, You Will Be Made to Care
You will be made to care about gay marriage. You may think it does not affect you or will not affect you or you can support it and leave well enough alone, but you cannot. The secular left and aggressive gay rights activists will not allow you to.
You must either fully embrace it or be shunned. You may think it does not affect your marriage, your life, or anything else, but you will be made to care - you will not be allowed to accept that others can disagree on the issue due to their orthodox faith. The slow march toward the destruction of the marital institution now picks up pace with Anthony Kennedy's decision in Windsor. What is, at its heart, a tax case, became a vehicle for Kennedy to declare malicious intent on the preservation of marriage.
That's clear from the decision. In the 90's, the Defense of Marriage Act was enacted to preserve and recognize the traditional marital structure that the United States had had since its founding. But Anthony Kennedy declared that the purpose was ill will toward gays - ignoring that activists were seeking to upend the order of things as they had been.
This decision will be used to advance on the states. A muddled equal protection message will be used to force accommodations some are not willing to make and some cannot make because of their religion. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
2. You Will Be Made to Care
The left will allow no fence sitting. You may not believe me. You may think me hyperbolic. But the history of the world shows this. Events ultimately come to a head. They boil to their essence. And at that point you must choose.
That is why so many Christians are fighting. Because we see in Europe and Canada what will happen here. Christianity is a religion of the city square. Christ compels us to "go forth and teach." It is the Great Commission. We cannot go forth and teach when the left bars us from the town square.
Many people say we should have legal gay marriage, but not have religious gay marriage.
The left will not honor the distinction. Look to Canada. Preachers can be brought up for hate crimes charges merely for discussing passages of the Bible that deal with same sex sexual relations. You may not care that it is a sin, but the world surely does. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
3. 'Gay Marriage' and Religious Freedom Are Not Compatible
The kids these days on the right are full of a great libertarian notion that "hey, let's just get the government out of marriage."
"Rock on," say other libertarians.
They then all smugly self-congratulate themselves, pat themselves on the back, and move on to other issues.
What they ignore is that the left will never take marriage out of the hands of the government. The left cannot. But it goes beyond that. The left cannot take marriage out of government because for so long it has been government through which marriages were legitimized to the public and the left must also use government to silence those, particularly the religious, who refuse to play along. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
4. We Must Stand Witness
On Tuesday night, a flown-in rent-a-mob screamed, jeered, and overrode ordinary small-r republican governance in Texas in order to make sure that viable children in utero, 20 weeks old and older, could still be killed on their mothers' say-so. They also opposed efforts to make it so that a woman receiving an abortion did so in a clean medical facility, because a lot of abortionists don't run those.
They stood with Kermit Gosnell and Douglas Karpen, the doctors who, respectively, are in jail for murdering children of the same age and in horrible sanitary conditions, and likely soon will be. And they were cheered on almost unanimously by print and television media.
Mollie Hemingway has a wonderful writeup on this, but I wanted to add a part. Because you see, we as Americans allow this madness - mobs running over governance, children being butchered - and I feel it is important to explain exactly what is at stake here.
I do this not because it will change a single mind. If you support abortion at 20 weeks and after - when the baby looks like what it is, a baby - then nothing I say will persuade you. I do this because we must bear witness to what we allow to be done, and we pay for the products and services made by those who cheer it on.
This is about the brutal murder of a child, in a way that were it done to a rabbit would end with the killer in prison. It is a murder because the person actually doing it knows he is cutting up another human being and does so without any pang of conscience - with, if you will excuse the phrase, a cold and abandoned heart. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
Sincerely yours, Erick Erickson Editor-in-Chief, RedState

First it was a synagogue, then a church and now the property at 7401 Limekiln Pike will be transformed into a mosque.
The former West Oak Lane Church of God complex in Northwest Philadelphia has a new owner. Masjidullah Inc. (pronounced Mass-jid-Allah) purchased the church building and office annex for $1 million last month.
"All of us are in shock we were able to pull it off," said Nafeesa Malik, Masjidullah assistant treasurer and Sunday school director. "I find it very exciting. It literally happened overnight."
The Muslim population continues to grow throughout the greater Philadelphia area and the new mosque will be the largest center in the region for Muslims to gather.

Breaking News
June 27, 2013
Dear NRO Friends,
Jeesh. A sad day indeed. Miserable. Well, as WFB always said, despair is a sin, so let's not. Still, weren't Roberts and Kennedy "our" guys? With friends like these . . .
Much to read on NRO today.
Steyn's View Mark takes to The Corner to comment on yesterday's events. He scores it one step forward and two steps back (unfortunately for us Americans, the step forward is in Canada). And he finds the logic of Justice Kennedy "profoundly disturbing." A must read.
Rome 200 A.D. Victor Davis Hanson looks at the Great Experiment, now in its 237th year, and sees . . . Rome. The long waning years of a once-mighty Empire. "Like Rome, America apparently can coast for a long time on the fumes of its wonderful political heritage and economic dynamism." The classical historian's column on the USA's Splintering is worth your attention.
Another Roberts' Beaut John Fund looks at the Chief Justice's majority opinion in California's Proposition 8 case, which said that plaintiffs lacked standing to argue before SCOTUS, and finds something "as bizarre as his Obamacare decision."
The Big Winner Is . . . California Governor Jerry Brown. So says John Yoo in his analysis of the Windsor and Perry marriage cases.

Conservative Battle Plan after SCOTUS' AZ Election Law Ruling
This column by ACRU Senior Legal Analyst Ken Klukowski was published June 20, 2013 on Breitbart.com.
Conservatives are launching a multi-track strategy in the wake of the Supreme Court's major election law case this week.
As Breitbart News reported Monday, the Supreme Court held in a 7-2 decision in Arizona v. Inter Tribal Council that states cannot add a requirement that voters prove they are U.S. citizens on a "Federal Form" created by federal law, unless the federal Election Assistance Commission (EAC) approves such state-specific requirements. The decision was written by conservative Justice Antonin Scalia, with fellow conservative Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito dissenting.

Obama's Unaffordable Act
This column by ACRU General Counsel and Senior Fellow for the Carleson Center for Welfare Reform (CCWR) Peter Ferrara was published June 19, 2013 on The American Spectator website.
When he was campaigning for President in 2008, President Obama told the American people his health reform plan would reduce family health insurance premiums by $2,500 a year. But I knew then, and now we know he did too, that just the opposite would be true.
Earlier this month, on a campaign swing through California, President Obama said regarding the insurance company premium bids that are starting to come through on the Obamacare state Exchanges for providing the required Obamacare coverage, "This is the way that the law was designed to work. But since everybody's been saying how it's not going to happen, I think it's important for us to recognize and acknowledge, this is working the way it's supposed to."

Unasked and Unanswered Questions
This column by ACRU Policy Board Member and Professor of Economics Dr. Walter E. Williams was published June 19, 2013 on Townhall.com.
Grutter v. Bollinger was the landmark U.S. Supreme Court decision that upheld the University of Michigan Law School's racial admissions policy. Justice Sandra Day O'Connor, writing for the majority, said the U.S. Constitution "does not prohibit the Law School's narrowly tailored use of race in admissions decisions to further a compelling interest in obtaining the educational benefits that flow from a diverse student body." But what are the educational benefits of a diverse student body?
Intellectuals argue that diversity is necessary for academic excellence, but what's the evidence? For example, Japan is a nation bereft of diversity in any activity. Close to 99 percent of its population is of one race. Whose students do you think have higher academic achievement -- theirs or ours? According to the 2009 Program for International Student Assessment, the academic performance of U.S. high-school students in reading, math and science pales in comparison with their diversity-starved counterparts in Japan.

WEDNESDAY CHRONICLE
Obama's Destructive War on Carbon
June 26, 2013
The Foundation
"Arbitrary power is most easily established on the ruins of liberty abused to licentiousness." --George Washington
Editorial Exegesis
Leftist climate policy in a nutshell
"It is remarkable that when the scientific consensus on global warming is at its weakest state in years, President Barack Obama has decided to make the issue a new focus of his troubled presidency -- and, indeed, that he intends to use the issue as the launching pad for a radical extension of federal power even more significant than his health-care takeover. ... [T]he president announced that, on behalf of 'all of humankind,' he is in effect directing the EPA to take over the American economy. New power plants will be subject to emissions controls, and existing plants will have to be retrofitted to comply with new standards. New restrictions on heavy trucks will affect the movement of freight and goods across the country. New subsidies will be handed down for politically connected energy firms, and federal lands will be set aside for their use. New federal impositions will affect the construction of factories, commercial buildings, and private homes. The president says that this is all enabled by the 'overwhelming judgment of science.' ... Every economic activity involving energy or transportation -- which is to say, every economic activity -- will be affected by the president's global-warming program. ... Most significant, the president telegraphed his intention to torpedo the Keystone XL pipeline project, which has long been ready to go but has been snarled up by politics. ... Rather than develop what we already have, the Obama administration is threatening to hamstring our most likely source of economic growth and new jobs for the coming generation in the hopes that fads such as solar power will pay off. That is not justified by science, by economics, or by sensible policy analysis. What it is, in fact, is an attempt by a foundering administration to change the subject from scandal to sunshine." --National Review

Ready for Hillary is the PAC run by an environmentalist sweatshop owner and sleazy Texas storm chasing lawyer whose mission is to pave the way for the coronation of Hillary Clinton at the Democratic National Convention. And then the cameras will pan to the strategically selected multiracial girls sitting on the shoulders of their mothers holding up signs reading, "Hillary Taught Me I Can Be Anything I Want To Be" and the same media personalities who trashed her bid in 2008 will be discussing how great it will be to have a female president in 2016. The name "Ready for Hillary" is a callback to that 2008 election when the country wasn't ready for her. There is no admission that Hillary may have been unready in 2008. Hillary is never unready. Hillary never makes any mistakes. Not even when four Americans end up dead. It's not Hillary who wasn't ready in 2008. It was the country that wasn't ready for Hillary. And now she will graciously give the nation of fools and ignoramuses another chance to vote for her. It's a noblesse oblige that should touch even the coldest Alaskan heart. Why vote for Hillary? Because Hillary wants you to vote for her. Because she expects you to vote for her. There is that cloud of unmet expectations that she carries with her everywhere she goes, drifting through the frosty smiles that shift into the overenthusiastic mannerisms of a woman who has never gotten comfortable with audiences because she really doesn't like people very much. There is no actual reason to vote for Hillary except that she's running. Obama could at least cobble together some stage-managed charisma, a few lifted quotes from African-American writers and a pinch of skeptical leftism into the persona of a political machine. Hillary never even had that. All the charisma is on Bill's side of the family. Hillary delivers speeches with determination, but no heart. Like everything that involves dealing with people, you can tell that she's just trying to get through it.

The plan for the federal government to take over the care of preschool children, a longtime goal of the feminists that used to be called universal child care, is now (probably to sound academic) called Pre-K.

Hey GOP: How'd That Gomez Running as a Democrat-Lite Thing Work for Ya'?
RINO Republican Gabriel Gomez lost to Democrat Ed Markey in the special election to fill the Massachusetts U.S. Senate seat vacated by John Kerry. I say, "Thank God". We can not allow Democrat-Lite RINO Republicans like Gomez to define the GOP.
However, I have little hope that the stuck on fear, panic and stupid GOP will "get it". Despite wasting tons of money backing Gomez who agrees with 90% of the Democrat agenda, he still lost. And yet, I guarantee the GOP will interpret the loss as evidence that our party needs to move further to the left.
Why should liberal Massachusetts voters select a Democrat-Lite Gomez over a full-bodied Democrat, Ed Markey? Moderate Republicans thought six one, half dozen of the other and stayed home. Conservative Republicans, rightly so, could not bring themselves to vote for Gomez who promised not to oppose Obama's agenda.
Extremely low voter turnout confirmed that Massachusetts voters, for the most part, did not care. Had there been a true Conservative in the race like Mike Sullivan, at least voters would have had a clear choice, giving the race a little passion, interest and drama.

Kennedy Dooms Doma; Court Lets Prop 8 Fall, Limits to California |
|
by Joel B. Pollak
Justice Anthony Kennedy provided the swing vote in a narrow 5-4 Supreme Court decision Wednesday striking down the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), which had defined marriage as between a man and a woman for federal purposes, and had allowed states to ignore legal same-sex marriages in other states. Separately, the Court decided that proponents of California's Proposition 8, which upheld traditional marriage but was struck down by lower courts, lack standing to challenge those courts' rulings, meaning that Proposition 8 is invalid.
DOMA was passed by Congress and signed into law in 1996 by President Bill Clinton. Critics at the time charged that it violated the Full Faith and Credit clause of the Constitution, which requires states to honor contracts, public records, and court decisions from other states. Kennedy maintained in his ruling that the Court's decision only applies to those marriages that are already legal and does not legalize same-sex marriage in states that do not provide it, though those states must honor such marriages from other states.

Wednesday, June 26, 2013 To: Friends & Supporters From: Gary L. Bauer High Court Rules On Marriage Friends, we are still digesting the complex decisions handed down today by the Supreme Court regarding the Defense of Marriage Act and California's Proposition 8. At first glance it appears to be a split decision, but not as bad as many feared it would be. We will have a special report later this afternoon with more analysis. Buckeye State Buyer's Remorse When I read new polling data today out of Ohio, I couldn't believe my eyes. Just 40% of Buckeye State voters approve of President Obama's job performance, while 57% disapprove. That is Obama's lowest approval rating ever in this key swing state. But my astonishment soon turned to anger. Why? Because for the second time in a row, we lost Ohio to Obama. The reasons are many but the conclusion is obvious. The state is dominated by blue-collar working-class people, who tend to be pro-life and oppose same-sex "marriage." Yet they determined that the Republican standard bearer and the GOP generally did not care about people like them. Of course part of the reason they believe that is due to the unceasing class warfare campaign that has been waged by Obama and his left-wing allies. Countless millions of dollars were spent depicting Mitt Romney as a job-killing "vulture capitalist" who was oblivious to the struggles of average people. Here's what has me so angry. We can't control what Democrats say about conservatism. But we can fight to control the agenda the GOP offers to the American people. If our party continues to talk about nothing other than cutting Social Security checks and tightening our belts, if it keeps falling on it sword to prevent tax hikes for billionaires and if it embraces an immigration bill that clobbers working-class wages, we will continue to lose elections to the likes of Barack Obama. Listen to Republican politicians and count how often they talk about hard working families. Count the speeches devoted to ending the unholy alliance between Big Business and Big Government -- crony capitalism. Count how many times you hear them getting tough on China and how it robs our economy of blue-collar jobs. You will seldom hear these issues addressed because the party's rhetoric is almost exclusively devoted to investment and Wall Street concerns. Those are important issues, but they are not enough to win elections. And, of course, count how many times you hear Republicans talk about the sanctity of life, religious liberty and strengthening the family for everybody, including minorities. All too often they are giving it lip service. Yet they can't figure out why Ohioans are voting for Obama rather than taking a chance with Mitt Romney and the Republican Party. You'll hear a lot of rhetoric from Republicans about entrepreneurs. I am a big supporter of men and women who risk their capital to start new businesses. That should remain one of the main focuses of our message. But most Americans will not start their own business. Most Americans will work for someone else, and the conservative message has got to appeal to those millions who live paycheck to paycheck. The Left Fights To Win Last night the Texas legislature failed to pass an abortion reform bill that would have banned late-term abortions performed after 20 weeks of pregnancy. According to a January Gallup poll, only 27% of Americans believe abortion should be "generally legal" in the second trimester and just 14% believe abortion should be legal in the third trimester. This should not be a controversial issue. So what went wrong? Once again the left resorted to mob action to defeat the bill. Hundreds of screaming pro-abortion protestors shouted down legislators as they tried to conclude the session. We are seeing this tactic over and over again. Do you remember the riots that occurred in California after Proposition 8 passed? Do you remember the mobs in Madison, Wisconsin? This strategy is being used right now in North Carolina, where voters have elected a Republican majority to the state legislature for the first time in modern history. The GOP is undertaking needed reforms, but day after day rent-a-mobs are showing up to harass conservative legislators. New York Senator Chuck Schumer recently threatened "massive demonstrations," "a million people on the Mall in Washington," unless the House passes the Senate's amnesty bill. Increasingly the left is using intimidation to turn America into something we won't recognize. Among the dozens of things the conservative movement needs to do when it comes to building assets -- more funding and better technology -- we'd better start finding ways to get conservatives to "vote with their feet" in order to counter the increasing use of political mobs by the left. Radical Islamists In The White House The Investigative Project on Terrorism released a disturbing report today indicating that radical Islamist leader Sheik Abdullah Bin Bayyah attended a meeting at the White House earlier this month with top administration officials -- at the request of the Obama Administration! According to a White House spokesman, those in the meeting discussed "a wide range of issues including poverty, global health efforts and Bin Bayyah's efforts to counter the Al Qaeda narrative." Bin Bayyah may not be a card-carrying member of Al Qaeda, but he's far from a "moderate." He is a supporter of Hamas, which carries out homicide bombings and calls for Israel's destruction. In 2004 Bin Bayyah supported a fatwa calling for the killing of U.S. soldiers in Iraq. If this report is accurate, members of Congress should be holding hearings and demanding resignations.
The Culture War Continues & How You Can Help Win It! Today the Supreme Court handed down two decisions on the meaning of marriage. Here is my analysis with an action item at the end. Many conservatives had feared the possibility of broad rulings from the Supreme Court today dramatically redefining the institution of marriage. In reality, the rulings were relatively narrow in scope. While we are relieved that the worst-case scenario did not happen today, it is nevertheless one more step toward the redefinition of marriage by judicial fiat. Regarding the Defense of Marriage Act, the Supreme Court ruled in a 5-to-4 decision authored by Justice Anthony Kennedy that Congress could not deny federal benefits to married same-sex couples in states where such marriages are legal. Justice Kennedy declared that the regulation of marriage was essentially a state issue and Congress had no authority to deny benefits to couples legally married. Therefore the Supreme Court declared Section 3 of the Defense of Marriage Act, which governed federal benefits, unconstitutional. It must be stressed that this decision left intact Section 2, which gives states the right to refuse to recognize same-sex marriages performed in other states. The Supreme Court did not order Mississippi to recognize same-sex marriages performed in Massachusetts. States that have solid laws defining marriage as the union of one man and one woman were not forced to recognize same-sex marriage today. But that battle is coming. The Proposition 8 decision was a technical ruling on procedural grounds related to who had proper standing to represent the voters of California who approved the ballot initiative. The justices effectively punted and refused to decide the case. Chief Justice John Roberts, writing for the majority, declared: "We have never before upheld the standing of a private party to defend the constitutionality of a state statute when state officials have chosen not to. We decline to do so for the first time here." The irony of these two decisions is inescapable. In the DOMA case, the court's majority clearly sided with the right of states to define marriage when they are choosing to let men "marry" other men. Yet in the Proposition 8 decision, the court decided not to decide when the people of the state have voted to uphold the normal meaning of marriage. Our condolences to the people of California. They exercised their right of self-government only to have state officials ignore them and to have judges treat them like serfs and deny them the right to define marriage. As sad as this is for the people of California, we have avoided at least for today the establishment by the Supreme Court of a constitutional right nationwide for men to "marry" men. There were not five votes on the high court willing to declare yet another non-existent right. This guarantees that the battle will be fought out in state after state. It is a warning to our side that when you elect state legislators and governors you must get from them a pledge to defend your values and to appoint judges who will respect the will of the people. Going Forward Folks, make no mistake about it. While this effort is being driven by the left, there are Republicans (I debated one recently) who want this. And there is a larger group of Republicans who are privately relieved. They will claim the issue is settled. "The court has ruled; what can I do?" they will argue. Cowardly politicians and anyone else tempted to think we should just concede do not understand that the attack will now only intensify against churches, schools, businesses and families who don't share the left's radical view of marriage. Step by step, cultural extremists are ripping America away from its Judeo-Christian foundation. The radical movement that was somewhat successful in the Supreme Court today has essentially equated the Book of Genesis, where the notion of marriage being between a man and a woman originates, with bigotry. Some may think the battle is over. It is not! And the battle is about more than just marriage. The whole concept of "We the People" was undermined. Justice Antonin Scalia wrote in his dissent in the DOMA decision: "This case is about power in several respects. It is about the power of our people to govern themselves, and the power of this Court to pronounce the law. Today's opinion aggrandizes the latter, with the predictable consequence of diminishing the former." Religious liberty is also at stake. The militant homosexual movement will now increase its efforts to force those whose faith teaches them otherwise to embrace and subsidize what they find morally objectionable, just as Obama Administration is doing now to Catholic institutions and Christian businesses through Obamacare's mandates. What Will You Do? Our phones are ringing off the hook. I have been doing interviews all day long. Left-wing reporters can barely contain their glee with today's decisions undermining marriage. I am pushing back against their spin and doing everything I can to make them realize that while today's results were bad, this was not a catastrophic day for our values or the pro-family movement. Today's rulings are a clarion call for men and women of faith. If you are as angry as I am by the left's use the of courts to thwart the will of the people and to bash our most cherished values, please let me know you are still in this fight! Click here right now to give whatever you can -- even if it is just $5 -- to help us fight back. While we met our summer fundraising goal, there is no doubt we must raise millions of dollars to defeat Obama's anti-family allies and elect pro-family conservatives who will defend our values. Obama's "Organizing For Action" is already promising to "go state by state if we have to" to redefine marriage. Are you prepared to fight back? If you did not respond to our recent appeals, please step up to the plate today. Take a stand for faith, family and freedom right now. Help us defend religious liberty and normal marriage!

The Texas state Senate was filled with protesters when Wendy Davis, a Democratic state senator wearing pink tennis shoes, held the floor for 11 hours in a filibuster that caught the attention of the social media world. Eventually a vote was taken and the bill appeared to pass. See the full timeline of the events and learn why the vote to change the Texas laws was eventually negated HERE.

New GOP Strategy: Give Democrats a Big Head Start! Dear Fellow Conservative,
After the bad news on gay marriage out of the Supreme Court this week, here's some good news for conservatives: Demographics are on our side! As M. Stanton Evans has recently pointed out, "Believers in religious doctrine, the traditional family and pro-life attitudes on abortion are systematically outperforming their secular-liberal opponents in the demographic sweepstakes - having appreciably more children per couple - resulting in a fertility gap that works against the liberals." Republican states, such as Utah and Kentucky, have been steadily gaining population, while liberal states, such as New York and Vermont, are consistent demographic losers. It should not come as a surprise, though it always does, that people opposed to abortion are out-populating those who consider abortion a right. Click Here to Read Full Article »

This decision was cast by a majority of the Supreme Court 5-4, the ire of this Professor was directed at Clarence Thomas.. In a segment on MSNBC's Martin Bashir, Georgetown Professor Michael Eric Dyson rehashed the issues of the Civil War and lobbed outrageous rhetoric at Justice Thomas saying, "A symbolic Jew has invited a metaphoric Hitler to commit holocaust and genocide upon his own people." Whoever watches this should contact MSNBC and insist that this "darling" professor of the Left SHOULD NEVER APPEAR AGAIN on its Network.......It is sad that some of our children (for that matter, anyone's children) may be subjected to his teachings at such an esteemed institution as Georgetown.........and MSNBC should be ashamed for airing that segment, and should also offer an apology........These are the times we must speak out, when comparisons of this kind are aired so widely......... as we live in increasingly dangerous times.........

Justice Alito denounces our "arrogant legal culture"
Posted: 26 Jun 2013 09:49 AM PDT
(Paul Mirengoff)
Justice Alito's dissent in the DOMA case contains an instant-classic footnote (number 7). I reproduce it below in its entirety, hoping that you will read the whole thing:
The degree to which this question [the traditional view of marriage vs. the consent-based view] is intractable to typical judicial processes of decisionmaking was highlighted by the trial in Hollingsworth v. Perry. In that case, the trial judge, after receiving testimony from some expert witnesses, purported to make "findings of fact" on such questions as why marriage came to be, Perry v. Schwarzenegger, 704 F. Supp. 2d 921, 958 (ND Cal. 2010) (finding of fact no. 27) ("Marriage between a man and a woman was traditionally organized based on presumptions of division of labor along gender lines. Men were seen as suited for certain types of work and women for others. Women were seen as suited to raise children and men were seen as suited to provide for the family"), what marriage is, id., at 961 (finding of fact no. 34) ("Marriage is the state recognition and approval of a couple's choice to live with each other, to remain committed to one another and to form a household based on their own feelings about one another and to join in an economic partnership and support one another and any dependents"), and the effect legalizing same-sex marriage would have on opposite-sex marriage, id., at 972 (finding of fact no. 55)("Permitting same-sex couples to marry will not affect the number of opposite-sex couples who marry, divorce, cohabit, have children outside of marriage or otherwise affect the stability of opposite-sex marriages").
At times, the trial reached the heights of parody, as when the trial judge questioned his ability to take into account the views of great thinkers of the past because they were unavailable to testify in person in his courtroom. See 13 Tr. in No. C 09-2292 VRW (ND Cal.), pp. 3038-3039.
And, if this spectacle were not enough, some professors of constitutional law have argued that we are bound to accept the trial judge's findings-including those on major philosophical questions and predictions about the future-unless they are "clearly erroneous." [citations omitted] Only an arrogant legal culture that has lost all appreciation of its own limitations could take such a suggestion seriously. (emphasis added)

What should the House do on immigration? (UPDATED)
Posted: 26 Jun 2013 09:26 AM PDT
(Paul Mirengoff)
Paul Ryan said this morning on Bill Bennett's show that the House will not take up the Senate's immigration reform bill. Instead, says Ryan, the House will "do a different approach," with "a border security trigger first." I assume this means that a border security trigger will precede the legalization of illegal immigrants.
I submit that Ryan's is precisely the wrong approach for the House to take. The Senate has made it clear that immigration reform that doesn't legalize illegal immigrants first is dead on arrival. So why waste time in the House going through the extended exercise of developing, considering, and passing such legislation, or any other legislation (including an enforcement-only bill) that falls materially short of what the Senate has opted for?
The only sensible reason I can think of is to get to a House-Senate conference at which the Senate's approach will have to be "taken up" and might, quite possibly, be adopted with a few face-saving modifications.
I see Ryan's approach as the House equivalent of what Rubio has done in the Senate (though, I hope, without the bad faith). Rubio pushed for the most pro-illegal immigrant legislation that he thought could obtain the number of votes he and Chuck Schumer wanted (roughly 70). Ryan, it seems, will push for the most pro-illegal immigrant legislation he can get in the Republican-controlled, more conservative House.
The Senate worked hard on its amnesty legislation, and in the process made clear what is and is not acceptable reform in its view. I would like to see the House take the Senate at its word; determine whether the Senate bill passes muster under the Hastert Rule; and, if not, kill the bill and move on to other matters.
UPDATE: Allahpundit contends that "the House will, and really must, pass some sort of immigration reform of its own, if only for tactical reasons" because "killing the Gang of Eight bill and offering nothing in return is, shall we say, a 'bad narrative' to hand to the media."
I agree that the House will pass something, but I don't believe that it "must" or should. Passing something creates the real risk that a House-Senate conference will opt for legislation similar to what the Senate will soon pass. Passing nothing eliminates that risk.
As for a "bad narrative," the media will concoct one under any scenario short of enactment of immigration legislation favored by the left. If the Republicans don't back down in conference, there's your bad narrative. If they back down but the conference report isn't presented to the full House for a vote, there's your bad narrative. If the conference report gets to the House and is rejected (which it wouldn't be), there's your bad narrative.
Every Republican House member was elected in a terrible year for the party in the face of a "bad media narrative." None should risk the enactment of amnesty legislation based on fear of what the MSM will say.
JOHN adds: Amen. Republicans need to fight back against media narratives, not cower before them. It would help, though, if Republican politicians defended themselves against press/Democrat attacks more skillfully. In the case of immigration, I don't think that is too tough: Republicans shouldn't emphasize illegals, "dreamers," the fence, and so on. That plays into the media's false narrative. Rather, they should talk relentlessly about the fact that the Gang's bill represents a frontal assault on the American working class. If voters had any idea that the bill will bring about somewhere between 30 and 60 million new LEGAL immigrants over the next ten years, 90% unskilled, low-wage workers, they would flee from it.

White House Hosts Sheikh Who Called for Killing American Troops in Iraq
Posted: 26 Jun 2013 08:48 AM PDT
(Paul Mirengoff)
Andy McCarthy reports that President Obama's top national security advisers have just hosted Sheikh Abdulla bin Bayyah at the White House. In 2004, according to McCarthy, bin Bayyah endorsed a fatwa calling for the killing of American troops and other personnel serving in Iraq.
He did so as vice president of the International Union of Muslim Scholars (IUMS). What is the IUMS? McCarthy informs us:
Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi [is] the Muslim Brotherhood's chief sharia jurist and the driving force of the IUMS. In addition to being behind the 2004 fatwa, Qaradawi also promotes suicide bombing against Israel. The IUMS strongly supports the Brotherhood's Palestinian branch, Hamas, the terrorist organization designated as such under American law. Indeed, Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh - a close ally of both Qaradawi and Turkey's Islamic supremacist prime minister (and Obama fave) Recep Tayyip Erdogan - was welcomed into the IUMS as a member in 2004.
As McCarthy brilliantly puts it, "the enemy is not at the gate; he has. . .skipped across the welcome mat."
But what was bin Bayyah doing at the White House? Apparently, he was there in connection with Syria, having previously (and successfully) lobbied the administration to arm Syrian rebels.
Give Obama credit. He's not a naïf like John McCain, who seems to believe that moderate or even pro-U.S. forces within the Syrian rebellion can prevail.
Obama understands that if we want to ride a strong horse in Syria, the Muslim Brotherhood is that horse. And he seems willing, and maybe even eager, to climb aboard that Israel-hating, anti-Western steed.

The Supreme Court does marriage [with updates]
Posted: 26 Jun 2013 07:13 AM PDT
(Paul Mirengoff)
The Court has begun the festivities by holding that the Defense of Marriage Act is unconstitutional. The decision was 5-4, with Justice Kennedy writing the opinion. Chief Justice Roberts wrote a dissent, as did Justice Scalia.
Scalia says the ruling springs from a "diseased root: an exalted notion of the role of this court in American democratic society." That's it exactly. I made this point here, among other places.
I'm following this at SCOTUSblog. It reports that Justice Alito has also written a dissent and that the language of his dissent "suggest[s] that the Court will dismiss Prop 8 on standing."
My other go-to blog today will be Bench Memos, where Ed Whelan will be all over the marriage cases.
Now the ruling in Perry, the Prop 8 case, is in. The Court has, indeed, dismissed the case for lack of standing on the part of those who defended the proposition passed by the voters of California, which banned gay marriage. Chief Justice Roberts wrote the opinion. The vote was 5-4. The dissenters were Kennedy (writing), Alito, Thomas, and Sotomayor.
Here is the opinion in the DOMA case.
Here is the opinion in the Prop 8 case.
The upshot of the Prop 8 case, as I understand it, is that Prop 8 cannot be enforced - at least not now.
Question: What's worse than our robed masters striking down an affirmation by the citizenry of the traditional, virtually universal definition of marriage?
Answer: One robed master doing this in a case where those trying to uphold the will of the citizenry are denied their day in court.
To be fair, though, the Prop 8 decision, by relying on the alleged lack of standing, limits the applicability of the striking down of the ban on marriage to one state.

Understanding the IRS scandal
Posted: 26 Jun 2013 05:26 AM PDT
(Scott Johnson)
Obama's new head of the IRS is one Danny Werfel. Werfel is working overtime to obscure the scandals in which the IRS is enveloped, seeking to persuade credulous reporters that the IRS mistreated citizens on a nonpartisan basis. Thus stories like Alan Fram's big AP story, picked up by Drudge: "Documents show the IRS also screened liberal groups."
Who is Danny Werfel? Ron Fournier explains that he is Obama's political ally, transferred from the Office of Management and Budget to the IRS, where as acting commissioner Werfel would investigate his own administration.
So far it's working out beautifully despite the absurdity Fournier highlights. If you want to get the sand out of your eyes, please check out Eliana Johnson's "What really happened with the IRS's 'lookout lists.'" The Obama administration and its many media friends are doing their damndest to prevent us from understanding the scandal and pursuing it.

Global warming; another of Uncle Democrat's campfire ghost stories falls apart
Jun 26, 2013 06:13 am | Coach Collins
By Derrick Hollenbeck, staff writer
We're back at Camp Donkeyland peeking in as kindly old Uncle Democrat is once again scaring his Republican children with campfire ghost stories. This time Uncle Democrat tells his naïve little children Marco, Kelly, Bob, John and Lindsey that global warming is real and if they don't support Uncle Democrat's "fix" for it they will be labeled "Enemies of the State."
He asks, "You don't want to be labeled an 'Enemy of the State' do you children?" Little Marco, the most reliable of the Republican children, proudly chirps up "No 'Enemy of the State' for me." Then wiping a tear from his eye he smiles bravely and says, " When I grow up I want to by just like you Uncle Democrat!"
Uncle Democrat replies," You're a good boy Marco, but not all of the other boys and girls in your bunkhouse are as good. Some say they don't believe me. ... Continue Reading:Global warming; another of Uncle Democrat's campfire ghost stories falls apart

Is there no limit to the incompetence and stupidity of the Obama administration?
If they had wanted to control the movements of Edward Snowden, they should have revoked his passport immediately, rather than waiting-inexplicably- until he had arrived in Russia. You don't think Putin would "hand-write" him one on demand? And if not a Russian passport, I'm sure he could have one of his choice from many embassies in Russia.
More than that, John Kerry and others have openly mocked China and Russia as states that repress free speech and transparency and therefore are hardly apt refuges for someone fighting government secrecy in the United States. Quoting Kerry:
"I wonder if Mr. Snowden chose China and Russia as assistants in his flight from justice because they're such powerful bastions of Internet freedom."
Well, let's see Johnnie....
If there really were press freedom in the US, why did Snowden have to have his story published in the UK Guardian? And, ... Continue Reading:Speaking of freedom of the press...

JUNE 26, 2013
Supreme Court Strikes Down Outdated Provision in Voting Rights Act
In its Voting Rights Act decision yesterday, the Supreme Court struck down an outdated provision that was no longer necessary-because thankfully, "Our country has changed," asChief Justice John Roberts put it.
The decision did not invalidate the entire Voting Rights Act, and it will not promote discrimination. In fact, it is a huge victory for federalism and a sign of the tremendous racial progress that this country has made since the time the Voting Rights Act was passed.
The U.S. Supreme Court invalidated Section 4(b) of the Voting Rights Act. Section 4(b) provides the coverage formula for Section 5, which requires certain jurisdictions (nine states and some counties in six others) to seek preclearance from theJustice Department or a federal court in Washington, D.C., before making changes to voting laws-an extraordinary intrusion into state sovereignty and principles of federalism.
Section 5 turns states' equal sovereignty on its head, but the Supreme Court upheld the law in the 1960s based on the dire and exceptional conditions then present in the covered jurisdictions where official, systematic, and widespread discrimination in voting existed at that time, but which, fortunately, does not exist today.
The Court held that current burdens must be justified by current needs and that the "coverage formula met that test in 1965, but no longer does so."
Further, the Fifteenth Amendment, which provides that "[t]he right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged...on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude," was "not designed to punish for the past; its purpose is to ensure a better future."
States such as Mississippi and Georgia now have some of the highest turnout rates among African American voters - exceeding that of white voters. The Court highlighted this, noting that "things have dramatically changed...no doubt...in large part because of the Voting Rights Act." Nevertheless, the "extraordinary and unprecedented features" of Sections 4(b) and 5 were reauthorized "as if nothing had changed" based on "decades-old data and eradicated practices."
Significantly, this decision does not affect Section 2, which is a permanent, nationwide ban on racial discrimination in voting and can still be used to challenge discriminatory practices if they occur. While discrimination still exists and should be addressed, the widespread, blatant discriminatory governmental practices of the Jim Crow South are a thing of the past, and this is a cause for celebration. Farm Bill Defeat Is a Chance to Get Things Right
The House's rejection of the food stamp/farm bill was a major victory for fiscal responsibility and limited government. Instead of adopting a fundamentally flawed $1 trillion farm bill, the House shot down the legislation by a 195-234 bipartisan vote.
Bill proponents have consistently claimed throughout the farm bill debate that "something is better than nothing." And within minutes of the bill's defeat, the fear-mongering grew even louder. Representative Frank Lucas (R-OK), chairman of the House Agriculture Committee, alleged that the bill was necessary to avoid "farm crises." The World Isn't Going to End. Congress needs to take a deep breath.

U.S. Mortgage Market Reform: Corker-Warner Bill Misguided
Draft legislation by Senators Bob Corker (R-TN) and Mark Warner (D-VA) would wind down federally sponsored housing finance giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, but it suffers from many of the same problems the system faced over the past two decades.
The bill would replace the Federal Housing Finance Agency, the current conservator of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, with a new government agency, the Federal Mortgage Insurance Corporation (FMIC). The new FMIC, structured as an independent agency similar to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, would serve as a regulator and guarantor of the secondary mortgage market.

Kansas Teachers Vote to Decertify Their Union
Teachers in Deerfield, Kansas, just did something unusual-they voted to decertify their union. The Kansas National Education Association (KNEA) no longer represents them. Teachers disliking their union representation do not make news, but teachers actually leaving their union do: The law makes it very difficult for teachers to remove unwanted unions.
Unlike most public officials, unions do not stand for re-election, so their members cannot regularly hold them accountable. Workers can remove an unwanted union only by filing for decertification. But bureaucratic obstacles make it difficult to hold a vote on decertification. The hoops Deerfield's teachers had to jump through illustrate this problem.

Urgent Action
|
|
|
Your phoning is picking up new NO votes in roll call today -- Other good signs S. 744 won't become law
|
|
|
|
IN THIS ALERT:
- Senate phone lines jammed with anti-amnesty calls -- some phone alternatives -- keep it up
- Chambliss, Chiesa, Enzi & Wicker joined our side in procedural cloture vote this aft -- up to 33 and growing
- Red-state Dems take callous view toward struggling workers in their state -- especially Black Americans
- Media coming to grips with bruising Senate battle making House far less receptive to amnesty this year
- Send Immigration Grade Cards to the Senators who are so proud of themselves for engineering a massive increase in foreign labor.
Please keep phoning Senators the rest of the afternoon. The Senate switchboard and individual office phones are often jammed, so just keep trying.
ACTION 1: Refer to the alert I sent you this morning for the toll-free number into individual Senators' offices.
ACTION 2: If that or the 202-224-3121 switchboard number can't get you through, go to our directory for all DC and home-state office phone numbers and use one or more of those. It is important that the staffs of these Senators do little else but answer phone calls opposing S. 744 today.
https://www.numbersusa.com/content/congress/phone-numbers-and-mailing-addresses-memb.html Chambliss, Chiesa, Enzi & Wicker joined our side in procedural cloture vote this aft
Those of you in Georgia, New Jersey, Wyoming and Mississippi, call and give heartfelt thanks to these four who on an interim cloture vote this afternoon joined the Senators who had also voted on the anti-amnesty side on Monday. (The key cloture vote happens tomorrow).
That brings to 33 the Senators who have been willing to vote to just end the whole process on S. 744 before getting to a final vote. That is up from only 15 who would take that stand nine days ago.
Horse-trading not yet moving any more 'NO' voters into the "YES' column
Thanks to all of you who have been pounding the offices of all the Senators we told you about this morning who were reported by media to be hard-pressed targets of the Gang of Eight who have been offering various favors to get Senators to switch their votes to YES.
In the interim cloture vote this afternoon, none of the previous NO voters changed to YES -- as did Sen. Kirk (R-Illinois) on Monday after he was made a trade offer that he apparently wasn't willing to refuse.
Red-state Dems take callous view toward struggling workers in their state -- especially Black Americans
We're getting disturbing information from citizens of these states.
Citizens who have lost jobs to foreign workers are being told that they just need to apply for higher-leve l jobs.
Black Americans are being told that, even though their complaint is that their unemployment is higher because of so much immigration, they should accept a huge increase in foreign workers because they should be supporting what their Black President wants.
It is as if these Democratic Senators in competitive states have taken on the worst characteristics of Robber-Baron-type Republicans.
Stopping a massive increase in foreign workers in the Senate always depended on the NO vot es from at least a handful of Democratic Senators in competitive states who previously have voted against amnesties and who felt they had to cater to the wishes of the working-class voters of their states.
Thus far, every one of those Democrats has knowingly voted against their state's workers and for the corporate lobbyists and their demand for millions more foreign workers.
Please put on a last-minute blitz on Montana's Baucus and Tester, on Arkansas' Pryor, on Louisiana's Landrieu, on North Carolina's Hagan, on Indiana's Donnelly, on West Virginia's Manchin, on Missouri's McCaskill and on Michigan's Stabenow.
Media coming to grips with bruising Senate battle making House far less receptive to amnesty this year
Whether or not the Gang of Eight gets its amnesty through the Senate tomorrow, the conventional wisdom in the media now seems to be that the hard-fought Senate battle with huge grassroots opposition has for the moment scared off Republicans in the House of Representatives from joining the Gang.
Speaker of the House Boehner is reported to have met behind closed doors this morning with House Republicans and again promised them that he will not bring the Senate Gang bill to the House floor for a vote.
I will say more tomorrow about all the challenges we face in the House (we are going to have to deal with several smaller dangers right away). But there is no question that the months-long opposition that all of you have waged with the Senate is having good results in the House.
But our ability to navigate the House is strongly connected to how much political pain can be felt by Senate supporters of the Gang of Eight.
And it is also connected to the extent to which our intellectual arguments get multiplied through various media.
Take Jonathan V. Last of The Weekly Standard. Both he and the publication in the past have been quite open to the benefits of importing more foreign labor.
But both are strongly opposing S. 744 after considering the overall impact. Today, Mr. Last really nails the key points of why such a monstrosity of a bill could possibly get through the U.S. Senate, and it ain't a pretty picture of a bill that is lit tle more than a bundle of gifts to special interests. His view seems to be catching on as people look more seriously at the strange timing of passing the largest foreign-worker bill in history during a time of very high unemployment.
There simply are no practical reasons for having this discussion right now.
Oh, but there are political reasons.
For President Obama and the Democrats, the political reasons are obvious. They see the Gang of Eight package as a chance to add a group of 11 million voters to the rolls (in the form of amnestied illegal immigrants) who could swing between 60 percent and 70 percent Democratic.
For Big Labor, it means adding more dues-paying members. (Even if it means lower wages for current union members; remember, unions care more about their institutional well-being than their members.)
For Big Business the current bill means increasing the labor supply -- which really means lowering wages. And increasing profits. It's not hard to see why the parties to this bill are pushing it so hard.
Send Immigration Grade Cards to the Senators who are so proud of themselves for engineering a massive increase in foreign labor.
If your Senators are pushing the S. 744 amnesty, you should soon this afternoon find on your Action Board a way to fax your Senators' Immigration Grade Cards.
We think there might be a sobering effect to see thousands of these very bad grades coming into the office, reminding them of the scarlet letter grades they will have to wear the rest of their career if they vote to give out 33 million new lifetime work permits to foreign citizens over the next ten years.

Senate phones nearly shut down -- switch to local offices this eve & Thurs. morn
|
|
|
|
Can't get through the Senate switchboard or individual Senate offices in Washington? Call their offices back in the home states. Many of our members are saying they are getting through fine right now. Here's the link to your two Senators (just click on the "contact information" link for each Senator). www.numbersusa.com/content/my/congress/quickview And here's where you can get the home and Washington numbers for every Senator you might wish to contact (especially after reading some of the info below). https://www.n umbersusa.com/content/congress/phone-numbers-and-mailing-addresses-memb.html
We're getting widescale reports from many of you who are phoning and phoning and not getting through in D.C. There are also signs that some Senators may have turned their D.C. phones off to keep from hearing from the people!
Overall, this is great news of a grassroots uprising that is sending great signals to the U.S. House to stay away from the S. 744 amnesty.
A number of you are pressing me to send out this one more alert today for a final hour or two of phoning -- especially for those of you in Central, Rocky and Pacific time zones where the local offices will be open awhile longer.
If the staff in the local offices says you should call D.C., tell them that the D.C. offices aren't answering their phones and you want these local staff to convey your message before the vote tomorrow on final cloture on the S. 744 amnesty bill.
=========================================
B ELOW ARE SOME ITEMS FROM AN ALERT EARLIER THIS AFTERNOON, IN CASE YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THEM YET
IN THIS ALERT:
-
- Chambliss, Chiesa, Enzi & Wicker joined our side in procedural cloture vote this aft -- up to 33 and growing
- Red-stat e Dems take callous view toward struggling workers in their state -- especially Black Americans
- Media coming to grips with bruising Senate battle making House far less receptive to amnesty this year
[item] Send Immigration Grade Cards to the Senators who are so proud of themselves for engineering a massive increase in foreign labor.
Chambliss, Chiesa, Enzi & Wicker joined our side in procedural cloture vote this aft
Citizens who have lost jobs to foreign workers are being told that they just need to apply for higher-level jobs.
Stopping a massive increase in foreign workers in the Senate always depended on the NO votes from at least a handful of Democratic Senators in competitive states who previously have voted against amnesties and who felt they had to cater to the wishes of the working-class voters of their states.
Thus far, every one of those Democrats has knowingly voted against their state's workers and for the corporate lobbyists and their demand for million s more foreign workers.
But there is n o question that the months-long opposition that all of you have waged with the Senate is having good results in the House.
Senate, and it ain't a pretty picture of a bill that is little more than a bundle of gifts to special interests. His view seems to be catching on as people look more seriously at the strange timing of passing the largest foreign-worker bill in history during a time of very high unemployment.
There simply are no practical reasons for having this discussion right now.

John-Henry Westen and I finally found some time today to put out a few more reports on our latest working trip to Rome a week ago. As usual, it was incredibly hectic, but very productive for the LifeSiteNews mission. We again developed exceptional new contacts and met with leaders from many pro-life and Church organizations. Enjoy the video that I somehow managed to cobble together this evening of the Gospel of Life celebration Mass. There is still a lot more from that trip that we will be publishing.
The rapper video by Flypside, Happy Birthday, about a regretted abortion, is still going very strong onthe Internet since we first published a story on it in 2007. See today's LifeActionNews update reporting its now over 6 million views on the Internet.

On Today's Program
Defense of Marriage Act struck down by SCOTUS
It's been a busy week for the Supreme Court, first making a landmark ruling on the Voting Rights Act and then setting precedent again today with the rulings on the Defense of Marriage Act and California's Proposition 8. A key provision in DOMA was struck down, and Prop 8 was dismissed - meaning gay marriages are likely to resume in California. Glenn's take: Get government out of the bedroom. WATCH
David Barton on DOMA ruling: 3 major areas are now in play
While the basic parts of the decision are simple, there's more to the Supreme Court ruling than meets the eye. Glenn talks with David Barton on radio today for more details. David says the bill 'doesn't solve anything' and instead creates more problems. Find out why HERE.
'Don't do it the wrong way': Did Texas illegally push through pro-life bill?
Glenn is constantly talking about how important it is to live by principle, so it was a little disappointing to see conservatives in the Texas state legislature trying to push through a pro-life bill under questionable circumstances. Progressives always say that the ends justify the means, but is that ever really the case? Glenn reacts on radio today. WATCH
Sen. Rand Paul: Gang of 8 bill 'dead on arrival' in House
Even though the 'Gang of Eight' immigration bill is rolling smoothly through the Senate, Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) warned it may have a tougher time getting through the House. He spoke with Glenn on radio about the bill and the Supreme Court's rulings on DOMA and Prop 8. Check out the interview HERE.

On August 6, 2011, the Taliban shot down a Chinook helicopter in Afghanistan's Wardak Province leaving 30 American soldiers dead, including 17 members of the elite Navy SEAL Team Six. Plus, hear from the victims' family as they share memories and celebrate the extraordinary lives of these fallen heroes. Judge Napolitano: 'We have achieved universal watching and monitoring'
This morning, Glenn spoke with one of the smartest libertarians out there, Judge Andrew Napolitano, about the egregious abuses coming from the federal government. Just how bad is it? The Judge feels we no longer understand the value of personal dignity and personal liberty in a free society and universal watching and monitoring is now commonplace in America. MORE
