"The constitutions of most of our States assert that all power is inherent in the people; that they may exercise it by themselves in all cases to which they think themselves competent, or they may act by representatives, freely and equally chosen; that it is their right and duty to be at all times armed; that they are entitled to freedom of person, freedom of religion, freedom of property, and freedom of the press."

Al Qaeda ripping off freedom lovers -- savages nonetheless, no matter they hide and steal and mimic the call of freedom lovers.
Spring 2012: al-Qaeda's English-language online magazine, Inspire, published an article called "It Is of Your Freedom to Ignite a Firebomb," which featured instructions on how to build an incendiary bomb to light forests on fire.

"Fire Wars - Forest Jihad in America" Algemeiner, June 15, 2013 (thanks to Ken) American focus on the NSA "leaks" diverts attention from real existential threats and economic devastation that for now affects mostly the West. The fire raging in Colorado Springs forced William (Bill) Scott and his wife Linda to evacuate their home. Last we spoke, Bill didn't know if they'll have a home to return to. As of Saturday afternoon, June 15, the apparent arson that set Colorado's Black Forest on fire last Tuesday killed at least two people and destroyed and damaged more than 388 homes. The fire that burned 15,500 acres led to the evacuation of 38,000 people. The six-hour delay of federal air tankers to help extinguish the fast spreading fire didn't help. All the while, local law enforcement and firefighters have been collecting whatever evidence they can find to identify the arsonist(s). Bill Scott, a senior fellow at ACD, warned about such a scenario last July, speaking at the ACD/EWI Economic Threats briefing on Capital Hill. An expert on aerial firefighting, he presented a sobering analysis of the devastating Waldo Canyon Fire, pointing out that the striking rise Western U.S. wildfires may be caused by elements other than nature. He noted that in spring 2012, al-Qaeda's English-language online magazine, Inspire , published an article called "It Is of Your Freedom to Ignite a Firebomb," which featured instructions on how to build an incendiary bomb to light forests on fire.Read more:
Photo: Lance Cpl Greg Buckley, murdered by our Afghan "allies"
The Obama Administration announced that it will meet with the Taliban in Doha for "peace talks." The Taliban continue to orchestrate insider attacks, killing our soldiers. They continue to poison girls' schools across Afghanistan, kidnap Red Cross workers, enforce the most brutal and extreme ideology on the face of the earth (the Sharia), and call for the defeat of American and coalition forces.
These jihadists behead Afghan children, slaughter Afghans who dare to attend a party where dancing takes place, and mean to run Mullah Omar for President, despite the fact that there is still a $10-million-dollar reward on his head. Omar sheltered Osama bin Laden prior to the 9/11 attacks; he had a hand in the 9/11 attacks; and he has directed the Taliban's ongoing war against U.S.-led NATO forces. On what basis could a peace conference move forward? It is, in fact, a surrender.
The Taliban have done nothing to move towards peace. They are savages, and you cannot make peace with savages. A "political settlement" is Obama-speak for surrender to jihad. The Obama Administration may insist that the Taliban break ties with al-Qaeda and end the violence, but they have given absolutely no indication that they are prepared to do that. If anything, just the opposite.
The number of green-on-blue attacks has skyrocketed, now accounting for over fifteen percent of coalition deaths. Our troops are being sacrificed to the politically correct refusal to state the truth about Islam. These are senseless murders that are only possible because the Obama administration refuses to acknowledge the motive and ideology of jihadic doctrine. How are our soldiers supposed to distinguish the jihadists from people on our side?
Worse still, the Department of Defense lies about these murders in order to prop up their failed policy. The number of green-on-blue attacks has skyrocketed, but US policy remains the same. Our boys and girls are sitting ducks. In 2012 they accounted for 15% of Coalition deaths. 2013 will dwarf that. In 2011, green-on-blue attacks accounted for 6%; in 2010, 2%; in 2009, 2%; and in 2008, less than 1%. And the Obama Administration is rewarding the Taliban with peace talks and prisoner exchanges? It borders on sedition.

Hear the Voicemail a Capitol Hill Police Officer Allegedly Left a Tea Party Organizer Trying to Block Its Rally-Goers From Attending a Congressional Press Conference
The Blaze | Billy Hallowell | Jun. 19, 2013 2:15pm
Reports of alleged discrimination on the ground are unfolding in Washington, D.C., today, as two separate political events take place. And now angst is raging after Capitol Hill Police Officer Sandra Brown allegedly left a voicemail for one of the directors of the "Audit the IRS" event, saying attendees from one event were not allowed at the other.
The message was apparently left for Kevin Mooneyhan, deputy executive director of Tea Party Patriots - which is putting on the day's IRS rally.
"It's 9:28 a.m., June 19. There are members of your group that are moving into other areas on the capitol grounds, joining other groups on the east front of the capitol. That activity is not authorized," the person who identified herself as Officer Brown can be heard saying in a recorded voice message forwarded to TheBlaze.
"Your area is the west front of the capitol. Have either yourself and our 12 marshals keep your group in your area and your area only. You cannot join other groups in other areas that have been permitted to other groups," the message continues.
Listen to the call . . .

Should The Case Be Re-opened?

I clearly remember it being reported that way.
Now some of the original investigators of rocket attack on TWA 800 are speaking out, calling for the case to be re-opened.
Why did they wait so long?
Why now?
Let's read excerpts from 2 articles.

Bill Ayers: Try Obama for War Crimes
By: Greg Richter
Former Weather Underground leader Bill Ayers, who was involved in bombing the Pentagon and U.S. Capitol building in the early 1970s, says President Barack Obama should be tried for war crimes.
Appearing on Real Clear Politics' "Morning Commute,"Ayers said every president enters "an office dripping with blood and then adds to it."
Ayers had been asked by co-host Charlie Stone if Obama, as the sole authority for Drone use, was engaged in terrorist activity.
"Absolutely," Ayers answered.
"Do you think Barack Obama should be put on trial for war crimes?" Stone asked.
"Absolutely," Ayers responded. "Every president in this century should be put on trial" for war crimes in The Hague.
"Yes, I think these are war crimes," Ayers said. "I think they're acts of terror."
Ayers, who also is a retired professor of education, gave Obama a failing grade.

Dear Members,
This is it!! We have a small window in which to act! The State budget is due on June 30th so the timing is right. Call! Let the representatives in our State government know we are aware. We know what they did back in 2001 and we want them to undo it! We know their pension plans are responsible for PA's $47 billion unfunded liability which is equivalent to $3700 for each Pennsylvanian. We know this pension crisis will cause more cuts to educational programs and more teacher layoffs. Demand they take taxpayers off the hook for their lavish pension packages. Go here to find your representatives - http://tinyurl.com/m4yyd2l
Inform yourself with the attached pamphlet . PA state workers pension program violates Fiscal Responsibility and Constitutionally Limited Government. Our public servant representatives need to fix the problem of untenable state worker pensions. It's not that we resent paying it, it's just that we can't afford it. Action Items 1. Call your representative and Senator and tell them you want to see pension reform that brings our state budget into balance. Talk to two friends or family members and convince them to make the phone calls and get two others to do the same, and so on, and so on.
from Bill Hodson for your reference.
2. Print the attached pamphlet using duplex (2-sided); check box for "flip on short edge". Give it to as many neighbors as you can the next 2 weeks. If you need some mailed, send me your address.
Keep an eye on your email inbox because we will be planning more activities focused on our goals of pension reform as well as privatization of our liquor stores
Thanks for your efforts Pam, Jim and Tim

 | How To Use The 2nd Vote App |
There is an awesome application for computer and cell phone called 2ND VOTE (2ndvote.org) Want to know what companies support conservative issue and what companies support liberal agendas. It rates the companies and tells you how they finance different issues. Please take a few minutes to watch a short video on this application. Politicians understand only two things 1. Getting power 2. Keeping power. Business too understands just 2 things 1. Getting your money 2. Getting more of your money. Start using the free market system while we still have it. There is ALWAYS an alternative.
PLEASE SHARE WITH EVERYONE you know. Post on FaceBook and Twitter. This software was developed by a concerned conservative from Tennessee.

JUST GET THE WORD OUT!
Beyond Disrespect
Subject: Abraham asked the Lord to spare 50 righteous people. God responded to Abraham's plea "If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare all ....Genesis 18:16-33 The movie " Corpus Christi " is due to be released this June to August. A disgusting film set to appear in America later this year depicts Jesus and his disciples as homosexuals! As a play, this has already been in theaters for a while. It's called " Corpus Christi " which means "The Body of Christ". It's revolting mockery of our Lord. But we can make a difference. That's why I am sending this e-mail to you. If you do send this around, we just might be able to prevent this film from showing in Canada and America . Let's stand for what we believe in and stop the mockery of Jesus Christ our Savior. Where do we stand as Christians? At the risk of a bit of inconvenience, I'm forwarding this to all I think would appreciate it, too. Please help us prevent such offenses against our Lord. There is no petition to sign, no time limit, or minimum number of people to send this to.. It will take you less than 2 minutes! If you are not interested and do not have the 2 minutes it will take to do this, please don't complain when God does not have time for you because He is far busier than we are. Hey it's worth a shot! Apparently, some regions in Europe have already banned the film. All we need is a lot of prayer and a lot of e-mails. JUST GET THE WORD OUT!

FROM THE DIRECTOR OF GODS AND GENERALS AND GETTYSBURG COMES THE LIBERTY MOVIE OF THE YEAR
RON MAXWELL'S COPPERHEAD
For anyone who reveres and believes in the preservation of the Constitution of the United States, Copperhead is a must see this summer!
Copperhead is unlike any Civil War movie to date. It is a film of the war at home - of a family ripped apart by war, of a community driven to an appalling act of vengeance against a man who insists on exercising his right to free speech during wartime. A story of the violent passions and burning feuds that set ablaze the homefront during the Civil War, Copperhead the movie is also a timeless and deeply moving examination of the price of dissent, the place of the individual amidst the hysteria of wartime, and the terrible price of war - a cost measured not in dollars but in fractured families, broken loves, and men dead before their time.
Based on the extraordinary novel by Harold Frederic, who witnessed these conflicts firsthand as a small child, Copperhead tells the story of Abner Beech, a stubborn and righteous farmer of Upstate New York, who defies his neighbors and his government in the bloody and contentious autumn of 1862.

Looming Federal health insurance mandates under Obamacare will force many Christian employers here in Pennsylvania to violate their conscience. If they refuse, the fine will be $100 per day per employee. Our Independence Law Center is helping one such employer from Lancaster County fight back in court. It's in the appeals court now, and we're praying for a win. But if not, this employer will either be forced to violate his deeply-held Christian convictions, or face massive fines every day. Does this sound like America to you? We need folks like you to get involved - and that's why I'm inviting you to a critically important "Conscience Forum" sponsored by Congressman Joe Pitts in conjunction with the Archdiocese of Philadelphia - the very city where our First Amendment rights were established in law. Here are the details: Friday, June 21, 2013 10:00 am to 11:30 am. We also offer again this year special benefits for Patriot Eagle and Patriot sponsors. We have some exciting new wrinkles planned for this year's event, and our list of confirmed speakers already includes:

Hauled before a Canadian "human rights commission" because he published the Danish cartoons that satirized Muhammad, Levant's personal account of a politically correct government inquisition is something you won't want to miss!

From a trusted friend:
As some of you may know, I am associated with Coventry Christian Schools as a parent of a graduate (2010) and as member of the Board of Trustees. Last October we spent a wonderful evening honoring Mark Niehls at our revitalized Founder's Dinner and celebrated our shared heritage in the remarkable community that is Coventry Christian Schools. Our vision for future Founder's Dinners is to inspire and inform not only our alumni and current CCS families but to inspire and inform the Tri-County Area and even our region by hosting speakers and artists who can uniquely assist us in celebrating the heritage, core values, and mission of CCS while also lifting our vision for an even greater future built upon the foundation of our past. The caliber of our speakers and guest artists should provide us with wonderful opportunities to share our CCS story with new partners in Christian education. Proceeds from the dinner will be applied to our annual Coventry Kids Fund for CCS scholarships.
This year we are proud to announce that our distinguished guest and speaker is Dr. Benjamin Carson, and our dinner's theme is "Faith of Our Fathers: The Role of Faith in American Schools." Please join us as we welcome Dr. Carson to the Tri-County Area and celebrate the great things God is doing at CCS!
Dr. Carson is a highly regarded neurosurgeon and motivational speaker who has addressed various audiences across the country. He is one of the most honored and recognized physicians in the world and holds more than 60 honorary doctorate degrees along with hundreds of awards and citations. He is a recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honor in the United States. He is the author of five books and is the founder of the Carson Scholars Fund. The 2009 award-winning movie entitled Gifted Hands: The Ben Carson Story, starring Cuba Gooding, Jr. as Carson, premiered on TNT and is based on his memoir. Dr. Carson is an authentic disciple of Christ, has been married to his wife Candy for more than 37 years, and is the father of three sons.
The 2013 Founder's Dinner, which will once again be a part of our Homecoming festivities, will be held at the historic Sunnybrook Ballroom in Pottstown on Sunday, October 13th, 2013. Doors will open at 4:30pm, followed by dinner at 5:15. Dress will be business/professional. Tickets will be priced at $100 until May 15th, then will be $125, so reserve your tickets for the reduced price.
Due to Dr. Carson's international reputation and recent prominence in the media, including his recent speech at the 2013 National Prayer Breakfast, we fully anticipate that this event will sell out quickly once advertised to the public. Tickets go on sale to the public April 15. If you are interested in attending, tickets can be purchased online. I will send the link out to those who wish to go on April 15
th
. While online reservations are preferred because they facilitate efficient event planning, you may also complete a paper order form, which I can forward to you as well.
All of us at Coventry Christian Schools, look forward to sharing this very special evening with you and acquainting you with the school and its mission!
Blessings,
Christine Gordon

WHAT IS COMMON CORE?Common Core, or the Common Core State Standards Initative (CCSSI), as it is known at the State and Federal level, is a set of national education standards that will fulfill the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act, through a waiver system. (The NCLB Act was put into place by Congress in 2001 and signed into law by President George W. Bush). Many states were failing to meet the NCLB Act requirements and, therefore, wanted something to replace NCLB.Common Core is part of the UN's plan for complete federal control over our education systems and the "Dumbing-down" of America. Common Core State Standards Initiative (CCSSI) are not state standards in the first place, and are nothing more then further federalization of our state education systems. COMMON CORE IS A TROJAN HORSE AND TIED TO THE UNITED NATIONS (UN)If you cannot see that Common Core is tied to the United Nations you have not done your homework! The major funder of the Common Core Movement is the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation which has pledged $60 million dollars to this effort. Bill and Melinda Gates are tied to UN through-and-through and have spent money in America and overseas for UN programs in Africa and all over the world for decades. From the Conservative Teachers of American organization, they wrote an article entitled: "Common Core Standards and the Federalization of Education." In this article we read: "Many are concerned that the Common Core Standards, once successfully implemented, will provide unfettered access of our educational system by the United Nations. Some textbooks and curricula for our public schools have already been written by the [United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization] UNESCO and the International Baccalaureate program, that is currently in many school districts, across the United States. Grabbing additional access is a natural next step. Once they write the curricula, they must have authority to develop all testing tools."
The UN involvement in the American educational system has already been facilitated by treaties signed by American presidents from both parties. Those documents include but are not limited to: Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Treaty on the Rights of the Child, Civic Education: Classroom Connections, and Agenda 21. The US Partnership for Education for Sustainable Development (since 2003), is the nexus of the UNA-USA and Global Leadership Coalition at the Department of Education, which altogether leverages the UN Decade on Education for Sustainable Development 2005-2014. UNESCO, the lead agency of the Decade, defines Education for Sustainable Development as "education for everyone everywhere" for the "lifelong learning" of "present and future generations". The UNA-USA sponsors Model UN across America and tailors its Global Classrooms curricula to whichever setting the kids happen to be participating. Children are unknowingly trained to respond with prescribed consensus to the situations, simulations and stimulation's of the particular activity (Delphi Technique). Global Kids is the CFR arm of Connect All Schools Consortium, a new Department of Education network, led by Independent Sector and The White House via United Planet Partners. Global Kids is preparing children for Agenda 21. The White House, NSA and CIA now have website divisions aimed at kids. The Public Education Network is a national association funded by Independent Sector donors: plus Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, the Carnegie Corporation of New York and the Department of Education "Funders" of the Rockefeller Foundation-backed International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLEI), "Members" of the the Sustainability Consortium, backed by the EPA and BSR (Rockefeller Foundation, Rockefeller Brothers Fund, State Department) and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation-backed International City/County Management Association (ICMA): Center for Sustainable Communities (an ICLEI "Partner") are "partnered" with local schools and governments. From the Partnership for 21st Century Skills aligning the Common Core State Standards with "professional development" content for teachers and principals and Lego Robotics curricula for students (Carnegie Mellon/Lego Education); to software curricula through websites like: cyberschoolbus.un.org, icivics.org, atomiclearning.com, renlearn.org, brainpop.com and ttl4.sunburst.com; to the weekly deliveries of Time for Kids magazine and textbook curricula into classrooms; kids are programmed with UN-defined values. State Governors administer Federal funds to "Community-Oriented Policing" systems like Crime Stoppers (The UN, FBI and other law enforcement and corporate partners administer Crime Stoppers International), the local student-equivalent of the Department of Homeland Security's' "See Something, Say Something" campaign; whereby children see hand-drawn posters of child characters on school walls displaying "Eyes Looking", "Ears Listening", "Mouth Reporting" with a hotline to call. Presidents Bush and Obama have personally followed the George H. W. Bush/Clinton trail of the Agenda 21/ Sustainable America megabanks-maze in "bipartisan" fashion. UNESCO PLEDGES SUPPORT OF COMMON COREFrom UNESCO's document "The Vision of Education Reform in the United States" it states: "My department has been pleased to partner with the US Agency for International Development to help ensure that our best domestic practices are shared world-wide. The United States provides over a billion dollars annually to partner countries working on educational reform. Our goal for the coming year will be to work closely with global partners, including UNESCO, to promote qualitative improvements and system strengthening....Ultimately, education is the great equalizer. It is the one force that can consistently overcome differences in background, culture, and privilege." THE UN'S AGENDA 21- COMMON CORE IMPLEMENTER!In the United Nations Agenda 21 (Guide for the 21st Century), Chapters #25 and #36 specifically talk about education of our children: Principle #25- "Children and Youth in Sustainable Development." In the "Activites 25.9.d" it states: "Ensure access for all youth to all types of education, wherever appropriate, providing alternative learning structures, ensure that education reflects the economic and social needs of youth and incorporates the concepts of environmental training, implementing innovative methods aimed at increasing practical skills, such as environmental scouting." Principle #36- "Promoting Education, Public Awareness and Training." In the Activities Section of this document in "36.5.g" we read: "Within two years the United Nations system should undertake a comprehensive review of its educational programmes, encompassing training and public awareness, to reassess priorites and reallocae resources. The UNESCO/UNEP International Environmental Education Programme should, in cooperation with the appropriate bodies of the United Nations system, Governments, non-governmental organizations and others, establish a porgramme within two years to integrate the decisions of the Conference into the existing United Nations framework adapted to the need of the educators at different levels and circumstances. Regional organizations and national authorities should be encouraged to elaborate similar parallel programmes and opportunies by conducting an analysis of how to mobilize different sectors of the population in order to assess and address their environmental and development education needs." In the Activities Section of this document in "36.5 h" we read: "There is a need to strengthen, within five years, information exchange by enhancing technologies and capacities necessary to promote environment and development education and public awareness. Countries should cooperate with each other and with the various social sectors and population groups to prepare educational tools that include regional environment and development issues and initiatives, using learning materials and resources suited to their own requirements." Sounds just like PARCC and SLDS. ASU's Institute for Global Sustainability and their "Sustainable Cities Network" is doing a fine job "brain-washing" our students in our high schools on sustainability, global warming (aka climate change), etc. Go here to meet the ASU sustainability schools! COMMON CORE SCIENCE STANDARDS TEACH GLOBAL WARMING!The new Common Core Science Standards that are up for review teach Global Warming (aka Climate Change)! Here is Research and Commentary on the Common Core Science Standards" from The Heartland Institute.
Please spread the word to all AMERICAN PATRIOTS!
Reality Check.....COMMON CORE EDUCATION = COMMUNISM IN AMERICA!
Common Core Education is the INDOCTRINATION of our CHILDREN. DO NOT LISTEN TO THE GOP ESTABLISHMENT RHETORIC FROM MIKE HUCKABEE!!!
Reality Check- just in case you ever had a doubt......MIke Huckabee is a typical GOP Establishment person.
Mike Huckabee is now championing Common Core Education on Fox News for the GOP! How disgusting is that?!?!? "Mike Huckabee Urges Conservatives to Back Common Core Standards"
This is another reason why Constitutional Conservatives MUST leave the GOP and beware of what you hear on Fox News. Fox News continues to move to the left - to the liberal progressive side of issues. That is the very very sad but true fact. Mr. GOP Huckabee....."It's disturbing to me there have been criticisms of these standards directed by other conservatives including the RNC," Huckabee wrote. "The truth of the matter is, these criticisms are short-sighted." see attached article from Sunshine News. Send a message to Mr. GOP Huckabee at http://www.mikehuckabee.com/masterfeedback and send a loud message to the every more liberal progressive Fox News! Americans that believe in our Constitution must not be silent about this! Do NOT let Fox News get away with promoting the very liberal progressive Common Core Education that promotes the ideology that American Children are Common/Community Property! Do NOT let Fox News get away with promoting the loss of state's rights and the federal government taking over Education. WE NEED TO ABOLISH THE FEDERAL DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION - NOT EMPOWER IT! If you support SOCIALISM AND COMMUNISM FOR THE U.S.A. then COMMON CORE EDUCATION IS FOR YOU. If you believe in the U.S.A. CONSTITUTION....then YOU WILL LOUDLY AND OPENLY REJECT AND OPPOSE COMMON CORE EDUCATION AND ANYONE THAT PROMOTES IT!! Common Core Education is the indoctrination of American Children. This is NOT acceptable if you still believe in FREEDOM!! Sally Baptiste www.blogtalkradio.com/americanstatesman
The proponents of Common Core say that the standards ARE state led because they were developed by The National Governors' Association.
Well, perhaps this is true in a way that is very disturbing! Listen to this speech at the 1989 NGA conference on education (at 12:48).
 | The Development of Common Core, Explained by Michael Chapman |
The video says this is a clip from the 1989 National Governors'Assoc conference on Education: Sr. Director of Mid-Continental Regional Education Laboratory, Dr. Shirley McCune She says about education: #1) Total transformation of our society #2) Teaching of facts and information (knowledge) is no longer the primary purpose of education #3) Close connection between economic (sustainable) development and human capitol (human resource labor for a planned economy) A group that allowed this kind of rhetoric to be said at their meeting? I don't think I want them developingeducational standards! Please read to the bottom for transcripts from the 1987 NGA meetings chaired by Bill Clinton. These transcripts are eye-opening. They are clearly more concerned with workers for the manufacturing. They seem to have concerns that we have students who can't read well enough (non-English speaking especially) to function in the manufacturing plants, and then on the other end of the spectrum... too many with higher ed degrees who don't WANT to work in the manufacturing. So... what to do about all this? Hummm.... standards! Make sure they read well enough to function as the industrial workers, but not so well that they don't want to!!! This is the John D. Rockefeller goal of the early 20th century when he started pushing for compulsory government schooling and funding the building of government schools.
NOW.... review the transcripts below of the conferences chaired by Bill Clinton: National Governor's Association website (find all annual meetings here with transcriptsm- ) 1986-87 NGA Chair Gov. Bill Clinton's Initiative Making America Work: Productive People, Productive Policies March 25, 1986 1987 Winter Meeting with Bill Clinton as chair, you will find on page 12 that the governors unanimously adopted a policy to adopt an INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION POLICY. http://www.nga.org/files/live/sites/NGA/files/pdf/1987NGAWinterMeeting.pdf 1987 Annual meeting. See page 34of this document to see how those governors seem to be concerned that we aren't training our students for the "workforce." They are concerned that the professors of higher ed are telling students to strive for more than the job of working in the manufacturing plants. On page 40 they start talking about standards needed in education. " See page 42 with this statement by Governor Sinner (great name!) to Lee Iacoccoa: "But you also made a point about the terrific cost to industry of the disparity between states in these regulations and I wondered, with all the fuss and the furor that we make over states' rights...." http://www.nga.org/files/live/sites/NGA/files/pdf/1987NGAAnnualMeeting.pdf June 11, 2013: Sen. Tom Harkin (D-IA) leads the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee in a markup of the Strengthening America's Schools Act of 2013, an education initiative to replace No Child Left Behind. http://www.c-spanvideo.org/event/220036 At the June 10 Common Core forum in Fayette County, Superintendent Barge stated over and over again that if Georgia wants to change these standards at any time, we have the ability to do so. The testimony below contradicts this belief by Superintendent Barge and confirms that states who adopted the Common Core standards DO NOT have the ability to change the standards in any way on their own. 2:23:00 - Rep. Tim Scott discusses his amendment to Harkin's bill. Instead of states being forced to adopt blanket standards like Common Core as a prerequisite for funding, let's put decision-making back in the hands of parents and teachers in our communities." 2:31:00 - It is admitted that states who want to change the CC standards, the Secretary of Education would have to approve it. States DO NOT have the ultimate decision making abilities! 2:39:00 - Alexander reads page 89 of the bill stating that any changes to standards MUST go through the Secretary of Education for approval. As are most of the amendments offered by Republicans to this education bill, the Scott Amendment is defeated 12-10. DATA COLLECTING: Senator Burr at the 1:00:00 mark reveals information about ADDITIONAL data points that this legislation will add to the data mining. He says that his count is now 500 data points. TEACHER EVALUATIONS: Senator Alexander at 2:00:00 mark discusses his amendment to end federally mandated school and teacher evaluations. He says states had a "gun to their head" to adopt the teacher evaluations because they were desperate for NCLB waivers. He makes the charge that the Harkin bill creates a "NATIONAL SCHOOL BOARD." The Gates Foundation involvement is mentioned frequently. Harkin says over and over "this is voluntary." If states don't want to implement the programs in the bill we just don't accept the money!" More strong evidence that our states need to "just say no" to all federal education dollars. As is pointed out in this debate: Any private business that entered into a partnership where the partner who contributed 10% funding got 80-90% of the control (as is the case with education funding under NCLB and Common Core) the partnership is DOOMED TO FAIL! Tom DeWeese:
The Growing Threat of Smart Meters
Sustainable Development is code for a policy designed to transform human society, essentially eliminating individual life decisions and replacing them with top - down, one-size-fits-all government control. In steady fashion, the agenda for this new policy, designed at the international level, is put into place piece by piece with a new government council here, and new regulation there, each designed to appear as a "local" development program. Like the proverbial frog in the slowly boiling pot, many Americans fail to notice the rise in government heat. The main course of action to impose the new agenda is through the pretense of environmental protection; "Sorry about your rights, but if we don't save the planet, then we will all perish!" And so with the devastation of a thousand pin pricks, America and its form or government is being changed through the creation of non-elected boards, councils and regional governments, designed to enforce the new regulations and "assure that we protect the environment."
The pin pricks come disguised as such issues as controls on community development; controls on use of private property; controls on use of open space; creation of development areas, many times under the excuse of historic preservation; communities designed on the blue print of pack and stack housing; making it harder to drive as roads are narrowed, even forcing cars to share the road with bicycles; the enforcement of expensive mass transit boondoggle projects; and the never ending spending spree on inefficient, unworkable alternative energy, such as wind and solar power.
In fact, control of energy and water are the two most effective tools in the enforcement of the Sustainable Development agenda. Without energy and water, human society stops. Using strict controls on how, or even if, energy and water can be used provides government with the power to dictate every aspect of society.

In February, Governor Corbett did the right thing and rejected Medicaid expansion on the behalf of all Pennsylvania families and taxpayers. However, the special interests who benefit-hospitals and insurers-continue to push for unaffordable expansion and are pressuring Governor Corbett and the legislature to reverse course.
Medicaid lets families down. Healthcare results for Medicaid recipients dramatically lag those on private insurance and, in many cases, lag even uninsured patients too. Dramatically expanding enrollment doesn't fix those problems. It only makes it worse.
Click here to tell your representative and senator to stand up for Pennsylvania families and oppose Medicaid expansion.
Additionally, expanding Medicaid means an additional 800,000 to 1,000,000 enrollees costing Pennsylvania taxpayers at least $3 billion over the next ten years.
You and I can't afford this expansion. We must act now. As negotiators in Harrisburg finalize the state budget, legislators will be tempted to insert unaffordable Medicaid expansion.
Sincerely,
Jennifer Stefano State Director AFP-Pennsylvania

In Venezuela, savvy shoppers are hunting down scarce supplies of toilet paper with a smartphone app. The smartphones, compact packages of electronics, are several generations more advanced than the white square, but they are available when the toilet paper isn't, because unlike the toilet paper they aren't subsidized and price controlled. While Hugo Chavez did at one point unveil a Chavezphone for the poor, he succumbed to the wonders of Cuba's Socialist medicine before they could become as big as Obamaphones. But if Venezuela ever falls to the dumbphone, then there won't be a smartphone app to find a smartphone with. The sight of modern men and women hunting down toilet paper with smartphones seems like the Soviet Union as reimagined by William Gibson, but it's a common enough outcome in an economy that is really a patchwork of uneven subsidies. The Arab Spring was fueled by the social media apps of smartphones and anger over insufficient subsidies for staples such as bread and fuel. The smartphones may bring you the revolution, but it's the toilet paper and bread shortages that set them off. The problem is a commonplace one that Americans will shortly begin experiencing with the subsidized medicine of Obamacare.

RedState Morning Briefing
For June 20, 2013
1. Rubio vs. Rubio
As a candidate for the United States Senate, Marco Rubio campaigned on a tough, "no amnesty" immigration stance, in which he advocated against a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants and in strong support of border security before legalization. Now, as a leader of the "Gang of 8," he has embraced - and in many instances moved farther left of - the very policies he once criticized.
It is okay for Senator Rubio to change his mind, though he and I may disagree. For too many conservatives, though, Senator Rubio appears to be trying to reconcile irreconcilable positions. In the past several days, tea party activists who once supported him have been booing just the mention of his name. Conservative groups that once touted him as the second coming of Ronald Reagan have moved on to Ted Cruz.
There is much time between now and 2016, and there will be other challenges that see the right and Senator Rubio united. But I suspect the contradictions of these statements will come up in ad campaigns in Iowa, New Hampshire, and elsewhere. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
2. Moral Vacancy at Georgia Right to Life
It is time for Georgia pro-lifers to start a new group willing to advance life issues and not play holier than down pharisaical politics with the lives of children. It's time for Georgia pro-lifers to start a group that is willing to change hearts and minds and help foster a culture of life where it can be done. As far as I am concerned, Georgia Right to Life has now become the Westboro Baptist Church of the pro-life movement. Instead of saving souls, they'd rather stone those who are trying to save souls. We need a new pro-life group in Georgia. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
3. Problems with the Cornyn Amendment
The so-called Cornyn amendment, though touted by some as a "poison pill" to the Gang of 8's S. 744, is little more than a fig leaf for the toothless border security measures in the underlying bill. Despite some improvements, the Cornyn amendment adopts the same framework (and, in many cases, the exact language) of the Gang of 8 bill-granting legalization before border enhancements, encouraging more illegal crossings, and removing any incentive to actually secure the border. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
4. It's our world, the CBO just lives in it
The first thing to keep in mind about the Congressional Budget Office estimate of costs and benefits for the "Gang of Eight" immigration bill - or any other estimate the CBO prepares - is that Congress is very good at gaming CBO estimates. There are lots of little tricks that can be used to hide costs and inflate benefits, once you understand how the CBO is required to analyze legislation. One of the simplest tricks is hiding the big costs of the bill beyond the standard 10-year window. This tactic was used to great effect with ObamaCare, leading to absurd performances by talking-points robots who insisted the President's health care boondoggle would actually reduce the deficit. ObamaCare looks worse with each passing year, as the 10-year window moves forward, and the more poorly designed components of the legislation self-destruct. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
5. Gov. Kasich: God Wants Ohio to Expand Medicaid
Governor John Kasich, a Republican, repeated his insistence that God wants Ohio to expand Medicaid when reporters brought up the topic on June 18. Kasich suggested anyone who opposes Medicaid expansion will have to answer for their opposition when they die.
Gov. Kasich said he recently told a state legislator, "I respect the fact that you believe in small government. I do too. I also happen to know that you're a person of faith."
"Now, when you die and get to the, get to the, uh, to the meeting with St. Peter, he's probably not gonna ask you much about what you did about keeping government small, but he's going to ask you what you did for the poor," Kasich said. "Better have a good answer." . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
6. Top 7 Negative Economic Effects of Colorado Gun Control
During Colorado's 2012-2013 General Assembly legislative session, multiple restrictive gun control measures were passed and signed into law. The legislation package, which was backed by the liberal Bloomberg group Mayors Against Illegal Guns (MAIG), is set to take effect on July 1 and includes 15 round limits on magazines, expanded background checks, firearm exchange regulation, and other new red tape implementation. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →

The House is debating its farm bill this week-and now Democrats are saying it doesn't spend enough on food stamps. The "farm" bill, which isn't how we picture farms at all, is actually 80 percent food stamps. Don't forget that the food stamp program has doubled under the Obama Administration. In an odd turn, House Republicans like John Boehner (R-OH) have thrown support behind this bill, which would lock in the Obama era's historically high levels of food stamp spending. But this isn't enough for the White House. President Obama now says he will veto the farm bill if it passes, because it doesn't spend enough on food stamps. Along with House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), he is decrying "cuts" to the food stamp program. Cuts? The nearly $1 trillion bill in the House is projected to cost 56 percent more than the last farm bill in 2008. Actual costs will likely be much greater, just like in 2008. >>> See our chart comparing the old farm bill to the new Heritage agriculture expert Daren Bakst says, "That's not a cut."
Heritage's Rachel Sheffield notes that "Far from deep cuts, the farm bill simply maintains historically high levels of food stamp spending" and that one in seven Americans receives food stamp benefits each month. "This is not about being against food stamps or against farm programs," Bakst says. "We're not talking about taking away a safety net from the struggling small farmer. What we're talking about is trying to develop some reforms to make some commonsense changes." It's important for taxpayers to know how Congress intends to spend their money. And both food stamps and farm programs need reforms, not rubber stamping. The farm-related programs present their own set of problems: The House's bill actually would spend MORE than President Obama's budget called for on the most expensive farm program. How did that happen? With such a controversial, massive program at issue here, why not address food stamps separately? Food stamps are in the "farm" bill for only one reason: "It helps get the farm bill passed." That's how Senator Thad Cochran (R-MS), ranking Republican on the Senate Agriculture Committee, explained it. That's not a good reason. READ MORE: A Farmer's Case Against the Farm Bill Quick Hits:

Congress Is Trying to Fool You on Immigration
Congress is trying to fool you. Here's how they do business. A piece of legislation is going to cost trillions of dollars, but Members of Congress don't want the public to see that. Instead, they have the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) look at the bill for just the first 10 years-and they move any costly items off into the future on purpose. They did it with Obamacare-saved the budget bombshells for later. Now they're trying to do it with immigration. Yesterday, the CBO released its score of the Gang of Eight's immigration bill. Heritage experts are still analyzing the full report, but a few things jumped out immediately. The Gang of Eight bill:
- WILL NOT stop illegal immigration - Despite promises of a secure border, the bill would slow future illegal immigration by only 25 percent, according to the CBO. In the next couple of decades, that means 7.5 million new illegal immigrants.
- WILL drive down wages - For legal American workers, the CBO estimates the bill would drive down their average wages.
The bill will burden taxpayers with trillions of dollars in welfare and entitlement costs for the newly legalized immigrants under amnesty. Heritage's Robert Rector explains:
S.744 provides only a temporary delay in eligibility to welfare and entitlements. Over time, S.744 makes all 18.5 million eligible for nearly every government program, including: Obamacare, 80 different welfare programs, Social Security and Medicare. When this occurs, spending will explode, but nearly all the real costs do not appear in the CBO score.
Senator Jeff Sessions (R-AL), ranking member of the Senate Budget Committee, explained how the Gang of Eight purposefully hid the true costs of the bill:
The bill's drafters relied on the same scoring gimmicks used by the Obamacare drafters to conceal its true cost from taxpayers and to manipulate the CBO score. There is a reason why eligibility for the most expensive federal benefits was largely delayed outside the 10-year scoring window: to mislead the public. As Ranking Member of the Budget Committee, I asked CBO to provide a long-term estimate. Sadly, CBO did not provide the long-term estimate as requested.
Heritage's Derrick Morgan wrote yesterday about the CBO's selective time period:
The CBO report also does little to assuage concern that the amnesty portion of the bill would be very costly to U.S. taxpayers. It provides only a look at the first 10 years in any real detail. (It includes only a sketch of the second 10 years.)
|
Sessions added, "This bill guarantees three things: amnesty, increased welfare costs, and lower wages for the U.S. workforce. It would be the biggest setback for poor and middle-class Americans of any legislation Congress has considered in decades." It's easy to get the result you want when you don't have to account for a bill's cost. That's exactly what the Gang of Eight is trying to get away with.

US general to testify about Benghazi terror attacks
by Cowboy ByteJune 18, 2013

For the first time since the Sept. 11, 2012 Benghazi attacks, the four-star general in charge of U.S. military assets in the Africa region will testify before Congress about what happened that night.
The hearing has been scheduled for June 26 at 9:00 a.m. ET and will be held by the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations.
Although the hearing will be closed to the public, retired Gen. Carter Ham will finally be questioned about his oversight of military assets in the region while dozens of Americans battled extremists for nearly eight hours in Benghazi on Sept. 11 and 12 . No U.S. military assets other than an unarmed drone were ever provided to assist in the fight.

WHISTLEBLOWER: OBAMA USED NSA FOR POLITICS
The IRS may have utilized surveillance data collected by the National Security Agency to harass political opponents of the Obama administration, including the tea party, charged NSA whistleblower William Binney in a radio interview.
After working in the intelligence community for more than 30 years, Binney retired from the NSA in 2001. He co-founded a unit on automating NSA signals intelligence and served as technical leader for NSA intelligence in 2001. Binney is credited with helping to modernize the NSA's worldwide eavesdropping network.

SYRIAN FORCES TRAINING TO STORM ISRAEL'S BORDER
Thousands of Syrians are currently training in Iran to serve as a force ready to storm Israel's northern Golan Heights, according to informed Middle Eastern security officials.
The officials said between 3,000 and 5,000 Syrian men were being trained in the event Syrian President Bashar al-Assad decides to open a front against the Golan Heights, which borders Syria.
The training is being overseen by the Al Quds Force, the elite unit of Iran's Revolutionary Guard responsible for the country's extraterritorial operations, the sources said.

NY Times Honors Muslim Who Believes Apostates from Islam Should Be Killed...In America
Reprinted With Full Permission by Pamela Geller of Atlas Shrugs
 | New York Times Moderate Muslim "Adulterers must be stoned!" |
Be sure to tune in today at 5PM Eastern, when Tom Trento and I present for first-time broadcast a video expose that the amazing United West investigative team of Alan Kornman and Randy McDaniels put together back in 2011. It centers around yet another example of the enemedia fronting for the jihad force.
On September 10, 2010, the day before our enormous freedom rally at Ground Zero protesting the Ground Zero victory mega-mosque, the New York Times profiled a Muslim named Sinclair Hejazi Abdus-Salaam, who had no place to pray. The whole story was a subtle advertisement for the Ground Zero mega-mosque. But as it turns out, Sinclair Hejazi Abdus-Salaam is not quite the "moderate" that the leftist NYT dhimmis assumed he was, but calls openly for the murder of apostates from Islam -- here in the U.S.
Here again we see The NY Times legitimizing and norming the most extreme voices. They did this Anwar Awlakias well. Not only was Anwar Awlaki the imam to the 911 Muslim terrorists, he was the go-to Muslim cleric for the NY Times scrambling to explain Islam after 911; he was the same imam who guided the 911 Muslim attackers to commit jihad. He guided the 911 jihadis, the Fort Hood Major Muslim, the Christmas ball bomber. He was imam at the Dar al Hijreh while being the go-to Muslim for big media for information on Islam.
The media shills blur the line between "moderate" and inciter of violence. The line itself is not blurry; it's very clear. The intellectual acrobatics these clowns go through to excuse and confuse the inexcusable, the savage, the inhumane would be comical if it weren't so dangerous.
Don't miss today's show for the whole story.

Mueller Admits FBI Uses Drones in Domestic Surveillance
By: Phil Mattingly
The FBI uses drones in domestic surveillance operations in a "very, very minimal way," Director Robert Mueller said.
Mueller, in Senate testimony today, acknowledged for the first time that the Federal Bureau of Investigation uses "very few" drones in a limited capacity during its investigations.
"It's very seldom used and generally used in a particular incident when you need the capability," Mueller said when asked about the bureau's use of pilotless aircraft with surveillance capabilities. "It is very narrowly focused on particularized cases and particularized needs."
Lawmakers, including Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy, and civil liberties groups have raised concerns about the impact on privacy of drones used by federal law enforcement agencies. The Homeland Security Department regularly deploys drones to oversee the southern border.
Mueller said the FBI is in "the initial stages" of formulating privacy guidelines related to its use of drones.
"There are a number of issues related to drones that will need to be debated in the future," Mueller said. "It's still in its nascent stages, this debate."

Pentagon to John Kerry: Shut Up about Syrian Airstrikes, You Don't Know What You're Talking About!
Yikes.
At a principals meeting in the White House situation room, Secretary of State John Kerry began arguing, vociferously, for immediate U.S. airstrikes against airfields under the control of Bashar al-Assad's Syrian regime -- specifically, those fields it has used to launch chemical weapons raids against rebel forces.
It was at this point that the current chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the usually mild-mannered Army General Martin Dempsey, spoke up, loudly. According to several sources, Dempsey threw a series of brushback pitches at Kerry, demanding to know just exactly what the post-strike plan would be and pointing out that the State Department didn't fully grasp the complexity of such an operation.
How about that "Team of Rivals," huh?
Melissa Clouthier asked on Twitter if anyone believes that the U.S. should intervene in Syria.
To elaborate a bit on my 140-character answers, I would support intervention if it could accomplish two goals, and I'd like to see our government doing more to achieve those two goals.
First, considering the death toll (93,000) and scale of the refugee crisis (1.65 million refugees crossing borders, and 4.25 million internally displaced people), I think the United States ought to do what we can to shield civilians fleeing the fighting - including the creation of a refugee/civilian-protection zone near the border, enforced by a coalition of forces to keep combatants out. The Jordanians are rumored to be ready to declare a new safe haven inside southern Syria - except they envision "internationally supported Syrian rebel units could attack Damascus and Syrian refugees could live in relative peace until fighting has ended."
Secondly, I think it is in the United States' interest to make sure Assad and his regime suffer some consequence for using chemical weapons; if there isn't a serious consequence, it becomes more likely other regimes and forces will use them in the future. I'm pretty open-minded on the form of that consequence - covert action, overt action, asset seizure, cyber-warfare - but I think there has to be a consequence.
For those wondering, the evidence of the Assad regime using sarin is pretty tough to fake:
"It would be very, very difficult for the opposition to fake this. Not only would they need the wherewithal to steal it or brew it up themselves. Then they'd need volunteers who would notionally agree to a possibly lethal exposure," the source adds.
Meanwhile, Back in Benghazi . . .
Remember my story about the smuggling of shoulder-mounted anti-aircraft missiles in and out of Libya during that country's civil war? Public reports indicate that tracking those missiles was almost certainly what Ambassador Chris Stevens was working on when he was attacked and murdered in Benghazi. While the most lurid allegations of U.S. arms smuggling in Libya remain unproven, the Obama administration did give its blessing to Qatar's smuggling of arms to the Libyan rebels in 2011 - and later realized that the weapons were ending up in the hands of Islamist militants. The quiet approval of the arms smuggling violated a United Nations arms embargo and probably ended up exacerbating a problem that would eventually require Stevens to be in that city when the danger was so considerable.
There is a new Reuters report from Benghazi that further corroborates the account of Libyans smuggling their leftover weapons, including missiles, through Benghazi to Syria, and adds additional details:
Abdul Basit Haroun says he is behind some of the biggest shipments of weapons from Libya to Syria, which he delivers on chartered flights to neighbouring countries and then smuggles over the border. . . .
The first consignment of weapons was smuggled into Syria aboard a Libyan ship delivering aid last year, Haroun says, but now containers of arms are flown "above board" into neighbouring countries on chartered flights.
That Libyan ship departed shortly before the attack against Americans in Benghazi:
On September 14, 2012, three days after Stevens was killed, Sheera Frenkel, a correspondent for the Times of London, reported from Antakya, Turkey:
A Libyan ship carrying the largest consignment of weapons for Syria since the uprising began has docked in Turkey and most of its cargo is making its way to rebels on the front lines, The Times has learnt.
Among more than 400 tonnes of cargo the vessel was carrying were SAM-7 surface-to-air anti-aircraft missiles and rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs), which Syrian sources said could be a game-changer for the rebels.
Frenkel's report identified the ship's captain as "Omar Mousaeeb, a Libyan from Benghazi and the head of an organisation called the Libyan National Council for Relief and Support, which is supporting the Syrian uprising."
The Reuters report continues:
A Reuters reporter was taken to an undisclosed location in Benghazi to see a container of weapons being prepared for delivery to Syria. It was stacked with boxes of ammunition, rocket launchers and various types of light and medium weapons.,,
The UN report appears to confirm at least some of Haroun's account, in its investigation in the case of a second vessel, the Al Entisar.
The [UN] Panel investigated a news report that a Libyan ship with around 400 tonnes of aid had supplied Syrian rebels with "the largest consignment of weapons ... since the uprising".
The Panel found that the loading port was Benghazi, that the exporter was "a relief organization based in Benghazi" and the consignee was the same Islamic foundation based in Turkey that Haroun said had helped with documentation.
Great omen for our efforts to arm the Syrians, huh?
Feed the Politicians, Hungry for Another Photo Op to Show Everyone How Compassionate They Are
Courtesy of Naked D.C., nothing screams compassion like watching New York City comptroller John Liu, who makes $185,000 per year, demonstrating his solidarity with the poor by eating a cold can of soup . . . while wearing a suit . . . in his car (Naked D.C. wonders if he knows he's allowed to heat the soup).

I could be wrong, but that looks like the back seat of a city-issued sport utility vehicle. This is the city comptroller who has a six-person security detail.
As I wrote earlier this year:
[Washington D.C.]'s congressional delegate, Eleanor Holmes Norton, Newark Mayor Cory Booker and Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper have also done the same, garnering quite a bit of press attention in the process.
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the program served over 46 million people in an average month last year, with that amounting to 75 percent of those eligible and 65 percent of those classified "working poor." The average monthly payment is $133.48.
You can find the income eligibility tables here; for a family of four it's about $29,976, a level I think that a broad consensus would agree is indeed low-income (presuming recipients are accurately reporting all of their income). (Before you gasp, "and that's before taxes!" note that about 62 percent of those making $30,000 or less pay no income tax.)
Of course, it's extremely difficult to feed yourself, much less a family, on $25 for five days. But the title of the program itself makes clear that it's not meant to be the sole source of your ability to afford food; it is specifically labeled supplemental. As CNN reporter Christine Romans noted, "The government designs it so this is on top of what little money you might have, food pantries, soup kitchens. Some people are getting meals quite frankly in schools and the like, like kids are getting, you know, two meals a day in schools."
When asked about this, Booker complained that the media spends too much time discussing "the pregnancy of a princess" and not enough time discussing poverty. Fine, but let's be clear that these politicians aren't really "simulate the everyday fact of life" for SNAP recipients, they're simulating a slightly worse situation.
Two dozen House Democrats are on their look-at-me-I'm-so-noble diet, and Kristina Ribali examines some of their statements:
I was struck by the ignorance of the statements from some members participating in the challenge. Rep. Ted Deutch from Florida said,
"Standing in line at the grocery store, it's relatively few items in my cart, and calculating how much I think they'll cost only to learn that I was off by a little bit, which necessitated putting back a couple of items and leaving with even less - it's just really difficult to do once, I can only imagine how excruciatingly difficult it must be to that every single week."
What? You had to calculate how much you had before you spent it and you may not get everything you want? This is news? Isn't this what the majority of Americans do when they're buying groceries? They figure out how much they have to spend and then they live within that budget. I would love to stock my cart with lobster, ice cream and choice bacon, but I can't afford it, so I don't. Is this congressman so out of touch with reality that he doesn't realize that families, unlike the government don't spend money first and figure a way to pay for it later? Probably.
Don't even get me started on Rep. Donald Payne who spent $1.08 for a single hard boiled egg. Yes, one egg. At the grocery store in my town you can buy an entire dozen eggs for $1.13, and for one person that's a lot of meals.
But maybe it was a really good hard-boiled egg.
The SNAP acronym is short for Show-off and Newspeak Anecdotes for Politicians, right?

Islamic Mosques: Excluded From Surveillance By Feds
JUNE 17, 2013 BY JOHN CARECCIA

While Government agencies watch you - Mosques run amuck
Homeland Insecurity: The White House assures us that tracking our every phone call and keystroke is necessary to stop terrorists, and yet it won't snoop in mosques, where the terrorists emanate from. Fact - Many of the terrorists have been radicalized in Mosques and Muslim agencies right here in America. According to the NSA the government's sweeping surveillance of our most private communications excludes Mosques and Muslim affiliated facilities. Supposedly this is done to protect the sensibilities of innocent Muslims who worship in Mosques.

News from The Hill:
Obama in Berlin speech calls for reducing US nuclear stockpile By Justin Sink
President Obama said he would ask Congress to reduce the U.S. nuclear stockpile by a third in a speech Wednesday at Berlin's Brandenburg Gate.
"So long as nuclear weapons exist, we are not truly safe," Obama told a crowd of thousands gathered on the East side of the gate that once separated East Berlin from the West.
The president spoke before a much smaller crowd than the one that attended an appearance in 2008 during his presidential campaign. Around 6,000 tickets were distributed to the speech, while hundreds of thousands of Berliners attended the 2008 speech.

Capitol Hill Police Block Tea Party Activists from Immigration Rally |
|
by Mike Flynn
Capitol Hill police are trying to block activists attending Wednesday's "Audit the IRS" rally from also attending a nearly day-long press conference on immigration, hosted by Reps. Steve King and Louie Gohmert. The IRS rally is on the west side of the Capitol, while the immigration event is on the east side. Organizers for the IRS event were told by Hill police that "your people" can only assemble on the west side. Organizers were told to remove the activists from the immigration event.
Capitol Hill police left a voicemail for Kevin Mooneyhan, Deputy Executive Director of Tea Party Patriots, saying that "your people" only are permitted to assemble for the event on the west side of the Capitol. The activists' presence at the immigration event on the east side, supposedly violates the terms of the Tea Party's permit. Mooneyhan was instructed to move any activists who planned on attending the Tea Party rally away from the immigration event.

Left Loses Big in Citizenship-Verification Supreme Court Case
This column by ACRU Policy Board Member J. Christian Adams was published on June 17, 2013 on the PJ Media website.
Something perverse happened after the Supreme Court's decision today invalidating citizenship-verification requirements in Arizona for registrants who use the federal voter registration form.
The Left knows they lost most of the battle, but are still claiming victory. That's what they do. Election-integrity proponents and the states are saying they lost, but don't realize they really won. The Left wins even when they lose, and conservatives are often bewildered and outfoxed in the election-process game.
Earlier today, I called the decision a nothingburger. After re-reading the case and reflecting a bit more, it's clear that the decision was a disaster for the Left and their victory cackles are hollow--and they know it.

States Can't Require Proof of Citizenship to Vote in Federal Elections
This column by ACRU Senior Legal Analyst Ken Klukowski was published June 17, 2013 on Breitbart.com.
The Supreme Court ruled today in Arizona v. Inter Tribal Council that federal law does not allow states the option of requiring voters to prove they are American citizens when they register to vote.
The National Voter Registration Act of 1993 (NVRA, or "Motor Voter") creates a standardized national system for registering to vote in federal elections. It allows for registration three ways: (1) in person, (2) when you get your driver's license, or (3) by mail.
The Election Assistance Commission (EAC, created by a later federal law in 2002) creates regulations specifying a standard registration form (the "Federal Form") to determine what information you must provide to register. NVRA also requires that EAC design the Federal Form "in consultation with the chief election officers of the States," which are each state's secretary of state.

The GOP Temptation to Try to Fix the Unfixable
This column by ACRU Senior Fellow Robert Knight was published June 17, 2013 on The Washington Times website.
It doesn't matter whether the Republican-led House passes good, workable immigration legislation.
The bill would have to go to a House-Senate conference committee, where Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid would almost certainly trash border enforcement and ensure mass amnesty for an estimated 11 million illegal aliens, also known as "unregistered Democrats."
This would be followed quickly by a mass influx of more illegals through family ties and midnight border crossings, and the beginning of the drive for yet more immigration "reform."

The Magic, Fairy Dust Naivete That Is Progressive Economics
This column by ACRU General Counsel and Senior Fellow for the Carleson Center for Welfare Reform (CCWR) Peter Ferrara was published June 16, 2013 on Forbes.com.
Let's proclaim the Good News: Government money is free. No, not just to the beneficiaries of government programs. To society as a whole. Meaning there is no economic cost to government spending whatsoever. The more the government spends, the richer we will all be. Let the Good Times roll.
That is the foundational principle of Keynesian economics, which is heart and soul "Progressivism." Every Paul Krugman column can just be replaced by the summary paragraph above.
Money doesn't grow on trees, you say? That outdated notion is where you went wrong. Today's paper money IS trees.

Wednesday, June 19, 2013 To: Friends & Supporters From: Gary L. Bauer Rubio's Reform Ruse Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL), whom I admire and have high hopes for, is now seriously damaging himself among grassroots conservatives. Most conservatives will not consider any legislation that doesn't secure the border before giving illegal immigrants a "pathway to citizenship" or amnesty, depending on your point of view. As most of you know, I worked for Ronald Reagan for eight years. President Reagan pushed through a citizenship bill after being promised by Congress and leading Republican senators at the time that the legislation would guarantee border security. But it was a charade. The border was not secured, and today, as a result, we are once again debating another amnesty bill. Only instead of 3 million illegal immigrants, we are now talking about 10 to 15 million. By the way, after that law was signed by Ronald Reagan in 1986, Republicans did worse among Hispanics than before he agreed to the bill. In 1984, Reagan got 37% of the Hispanic vote. Four years later, after the '86 amnesty, George H. W. Bush got just 30% of the Hispanic vote. Senator Rubio said border security was essential for any legislation to pass. But in recent interviews he has said the earned citizenship begins immediately no matter what the situation is at the border. The bill he and the other seven members of the Gang of Eight are pushing essentially trusts the Obama bureaucracy, or perhaps the Hillary Clinton bureaucracy in 2016, to certify that the border is secure. That is beyond naïve. That is intentional blindness about just how badly out-of-control the overwhelmingly huge and growing government is. Out of loyalty to the Gang of Eight, Senator Rubio has so far voted against every significant amendment to strengthen the border security provisions of the Senate's quasi-amnesty bill. Respectfully, Senator Rubio, your loyalty should not be to any Senate "gang," but to the conservative movement that helped to make you a United States senator. Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) said on the radio this morning that nobody from the Gang of Eight has reached out to him on his border security amendment, which would require Congress to vote every year on whether the border is secure. Former Congressman Allen West made news this morning when he said he was so disappointed in Rubio that he was considering the possibility of challenging him in the GOP primary in 2016. America Wants Border Security First! As I mentioned above, a central premise of the conservative view on immigration is border security. That view is not limited to the political right. It is shared by most Americans -- a fact our elected public servants in Congress (particularly Republicans) should keep in mind. A recent CNN poll asked Americans, "What should be the main focus of the U.S. government in dealing with immigration policy?" Only 36% said "creating a path to citizenship for many immigrants" illegally in the country. The overwhelming majority -- 62% -- said the main focus should be "increasing border security to reduce or eliminate the number of immigrants coming into this country without permission." Let's break down the data even further:
- 74% of Republicans support border security over legalization.
- 65% of independents support border security over legalization.
- Democrats are split with 49% favoring border security and 50% favoring legalization.
- Even among "Non-whites," 47% believe the main focus of our immigration policy should be border security, while 52% believe it should be legalization.
CBO Says Amnesty Bill Won't Secure Border The public overwhelmingly wants the border secured. Will this bill do it? The non-partisan Congressional Budget Office looked at the legislation and concluded it wouldn't even come close. According to its findings, "CBO estimates that, under the bill, the net annual flow of unauthorized residents would decrease by about 25 percent relative to what would occur under current law." Moreover, the CBO adds that "aspects of the bill would probably increase the number of unauthorized residents -- in particular, people overstaying their visas issued under the new programs for temporary workers." So 62% of Americans favor border security over legalization, but this bill fails to stop 75% of illegal immigration. And what about those new programs for temporary workers? What other effects might they have? The CBO and the Joint Committee on Taxation both concluded that "a greater number of immigrants with lower skills ... would be added to the workforce, slightly pushing down the average wage for the labor force as a whole." Once again, I am baffled by those establishment Republicans who appear so eager to push legislation that does not accomplish what the American people want (border security) and which hurts working class Americans. Republicans should stand firmly for the rule of law, secure borders and strong national security and support policies that help, not undermine, the wages of working class and middle class families. IRS Agents Getting Bonuses? Senator Charles Grassley (R-IA) is spitting mad and you should be too! The IRS is reportedly preparing to pay out $70 million in bonuses. That's $70 million of your money! These payouts are coming in spite of an April sequestration order to suspend the payments, not to mention the ongoing investigation of corruption and abuse. By the way, the official who wrote the sequestration order in April was Danny Werfel, controller of the Office of Management and Budget. Obama appointed Werfel as Acting IRS Commissioner in mid-May. This is just one more example of why we must elect conservative candidates who are committed to shrinking the size and scope of Big Government. In a 5-4 decision by the United States Supreme Court on Monday, they ruled that a potential defendant's silence can be used against him if he is being interviewed by police, but has not yet been arrested and read his Miranda rights, nor invoked the Fifth Amendment. Apparently the high Court doesn't consider rights unalienable and something you automatically have unless you say so.
Most people know what Miranda rights are. They are read to those being arrested. "You have the right to remain silent, right to a lawyer if you cannot afford one and anything you say can be used against you in court, etc." However, those rights are in effect whether read to you or not. This was brought up in therecent capture of Boston bombing suspect Dzhokar Tsarnaev.
Tim Lynch from the CATO Institute writes:
Today, the Supreme Court issued its ruling in Salinas v. Texas. Surprisingly, the Court did not answer the primary question court watchers were expecting, which was whether a prosecutor can deride a person's reliance upon the right against self-incrimination when that person has not been arrested. The Court said it did not have to reach that question because the person here, Salinas, never really properly invoked his constitutional right against self incrimination. And because he didn't, there was nothing wrong with the prosecutor's comments at his trial. This is a lousy ruling.

Energy Geek Week (2): Greens Need to Take Their Brown Lumps
Posted: 19 Jun 2013 10:02 AM PDT
(Steven Hayward)
I sometimes wonder what would happen to Hollywood if their political inclinations were actually put into practice. Not many people would be able to drive to the theater to take in their latest films. How would that work out for them? This speculation was prompted by our pal Tom Pyle at the Institute for Energy Research, who writes this morning at RealClearEnergy about the colossally dishonest Gasland II, Josh Fox's new film attacking natural gas production:
According to Fox's narrative, shale gas drilling stands accused of methane contamination. But in April, Pennsylvania's Department of Environmental Protection concluded that naturally occurring shallow gas was responsible for contaminating well water of the three private homes in question. It's almost enough to make you feel sorry for poor Josh.
In addition, another recent study from Duke University's highly regarded Nicholas School of Environmental Studies concluded there was no groundwater contamination to be found from gas fracking in Arkansas. I thought we were supposed to follow "science" on these matters? Meanwhile, in today's Energy Geek Week installment, let's have a little fun with the greenie enthusiasm for renewable energy, which, we're endlessly told, is growing by leaps and bounds. According to the latest data from the just released BP Statistical Review of World Energy, non-hydro renewables (the environmentally correct kind, since dams are yucky, which means solar, wind, and biomass chiefly) experienced 180 percent growth in total output from 2005 - 2012. (It helps to have all those subsidies.) Coal output only grew 27 percent during this time.
But this is of course fun with numbers and bases. If you ask the question: which source of energy saw the most absolute growth in energy output from 2005 - 2012, the answer is: coal. The figure below shows the increase in absolute energy output (measured in the common unit of Million Tons of Oil Equivalent, or MTOE) of non-hydro renewables and coal, and you can see how coal trounced renewables by a factor of four. (Oil and gas are growing, too; tomorrow I'll look at those figures.)

Negotiating the terms of America's humiliation
Posted: 19 Jun 2013 08:27 AM PDT
(Paul Mirengoff)
The U.S. has commenced negotiations with the Taliban. The Afghan government is excluded from the talks, which I consider a disgrace.
The U.S. has proved to be a worse than feckless partner. Why any state or group would ever again cast its lot with America, where there are other options, is beyond me.
Quite apart from the exclusion of the Afghan government, the negotiations strike me as a classic case of "lose-lose" as far as the United States is concerned. The Taliban has no good reason to negotiate seriously with us. It knows that most of our troops will be going home soon and that, therefore, its prospects for winning a military victory are good.
Under these circumstances, the Taliban cannot be expected to make concessions. Thus, the likely outcome is "no deal." This is a loss for the U.S. because we will have gone to the Taliban, hat-in-hand and over the objections of our partner in the fight, and received nothing in return.
But because our negotiating position is so weak, a deal would be even worse. God only knows what concessions we need to make to obtain a deal from such a position. And whatever those concessions are, a deal would describe the terms of our defeat for all the world to ridicule.
I'm not cynical enough to believe that this is what President Obama wants, but the thought has crossed my mind.
Having determined that the U.S. shall lose this war, Obama's best option is to have America go home as quietly as possible.

The Iranian election - the foreign policy establishment's take
Posted: 19 Jun 2013 07:54 AM PDT
(Paul Mirengoff)
The House Committee on Foreign Affairs (Subcommittee on the Middle East and Northern Africa) held a hearing yesterday on the Iranian elections. Wanting to know more about the subject, and to see our friend Tom Cotton in action, I attended.
Tom delivered a strong opening statement in which he made it clear that in order to justify any change in U.S. policy toward Iran, the regime must do more than hold seriously flawed elections. The good news was that the Democrats on the Subcommittee took basically the same position, at least in their public remarks. No one on the subcommittee appeared to believe that the Iranian election should engender optimism.
However, the three witnesses before the Subcommittee found reason to view the election results as a sign that Iran may be about to change course. These witnesses, I take it, represent the view of the U.S. foreign policy establishment. The witnesses were Alireza Nader of the RAND Corporation, Suzanne Maloney of the Brookings Institution and the Saban Center for Middle East Policy, and Karim Sadjadpour of the Carnegie Endowment for Peace.
I tend to agree with the pessimistic position expressed by Tom and other subcommittee members. But having previously presented (in "eight takeaways") a case for strong skepticism about the elections I thought that, in the interest of balance, I would present the takeaways from the more optimistic view expressed at yesterday's hearing.
1. Sanctions are working in the sense that they are having an enormous negative impact on the Iranian economy. 2. The mandate for the newly elected Rouhani is to turn the economy around. This is his mandate from both the people who voted for him and from the "Supreme Leader" who permitted his election. The latter fears instability if the economy isn't fixed. 3. The economy cannot be fixed if current sanctions remain in place. 4. Rouhani's mandate, therefore, is to cause a lifting of these sanctions. 5. Rouhani can only accomplish this if Iran steps back from its drive to obtain nuclear weapons. 6. The regime might well have permitted Rouhani's election because it's looking for him to obtain a deal with the West on its nuclear program as a way out of the box Iran is in. In this sense, the regime views Rouhani, with his experience as a nuclear negotiator, as "a fixer." 7. The West should therefore embrace the opportunity presented by Rouhani's election and seriously attempt to negotiate a deal. 8. The test will be whether Rouhani comes up with a serious negotiating position, as he did ten years ago. Applying this test, we should be able quickly to tell whether negotiations hold promise. 9. Fears expressed by subcommittee members from both political parties that Rouhani's election will cause a weakening of the sanctions coalition's resolve are unfounded. 10. Rouhani's election won't change Iran's hard line toward Israel or its policy in Syria. These will continue to be dictated by the regime and, in any case, there's little reason to think that Rouhani dissents.
This appears to be the conventional wisdom in Washington right now. Whether it constitutes actual wisdom is another matter.

Open enrollment
Posted: 19 Jun 2013 04:52 AM PDT
(Scott Johnson)
In its second term the Obama administration continues to do great harm to the land of the free and the home of the brave, nowhere more so than in the preservation of Obamacare. The preservation of Obamacare appears to be its sole purpose. We really ought to be paying more attention to the subject.
Open enrollment for Obamacare begins on October 1 for full implementation on January 1, 2014. The program is designed to capture millions of new clients for the welfare state by setting benefits so high. Subsidies to purchase insurance are available for those making incomes up to 400 percent of the poverty level. Congratulations are clearly in order. I don't believe in predictions, but I will hazard a guess. Obamacare is here to stay.
McClatchy's Tony Pugh deems the "big question" of Obamacare to be "What's it going to cost me?" Wrong! The big question is "How can you be so clueless?"
Holman Jenkins takes up one of the issues related to the selling of Obamacare in his Wall Street Journal column "The young won't buy Obamacare." Jenkins doesn't devote much of his column to answering the question because the answer is so obvious.
Glenn Thrush and David Nather take up the political marketing of Obamcare in the Politico story "Launching the Obamcare campaign." Thrush and Nather don't provide the context necessary to understand this element of their story - Jenkins does - but it is of interest:
On Monday, Organizing for Action, the entity that replaced Obama's 2012 campaign apparatus, announced plans to embark on a "seven-figure" ad campaign to entice young, healthy uninsured necessary for the law to succeed. Much of that campaign will be centered in three states that together are home to a third of the nation's uninsured - California, Texas and Florida, Obama's 2013 battlegrounds. "It's important for the intensity of the effort to pick up in September, October and November," said an official involved in the planning. "That's part of what we learned in campaigns... To break through, you've got to hit people from all angles, all at once, urging them to take action... You don't do that in June." But POLITICO interviews with front-line organizers in the state-based groups that are bearing the responsibility of enrolling millions of people who have never paid for health care in their lives revealed optimism tempered with a fair dose of confusion, skepticism and anxiety about how the effort will fare in the Obamacare battlegrounds.
What would it mean if Obamacare does not "succeed," to use the Thrush and Nather's term. They don't say. They seem to think that failure means "a new Republican backlash against the law heading into another midterm election year." I think it means that health care premiums go up, although Obamacare contains price controls that limit potential increases. The "failure" of Obamacare does not mean it goes away.
If you think "war is the health of the state," to borrow Randolph Bourne's famous adage, you ain't seen nothin' yet. Obamacare is all about health, alright - Obamacare is the health of the state!
Thrush and Nather return to the subject of the young and the restless one more time: "For the system to work, [OFA] must convince healthy 18-to-35 year-olds who have paid nothing for health care in the past to pony up hundreds of dollars for coverage that could still leave them on the hook for thousands of dollars in expenses - all for the greater good and Obama's legacy." I'm pretty sure that won't be the pitch.
The IRS is of course a key role in the implementation of Obamacare with respect to enforcement of its penalties, but also with respect to distribution of its benefits. Orrin Hatch gives us a taste of things to come in the Wall Street Journal column "Think the IRS is bad now? Just wait." You won't have to wait long.
The Wall Street Journal describes Andy Purdzer as "the man who revived Carl's Jr." Purdzer has a few pointed things to say about the unintended consequences of Obamacare in the Journal's Weekend interview column "Of burgers, bikinis and Obamacare."
One can infer from Purdzer's comments the billions of dollars that have already been poured into unproductive uses down the Obamacare rathole. Obamacare has contributed greatly to the economic stagnation that characterizes the Age of Obama.
More to the point, however, are Lincoln's words: "Now I ask you in all soberness, if all these things, if indulged in, if ratified, if confirmed and endorsed, if taught to our children, and repeated to them, do not tend to rub out the sentiment of liberty in the country, and to transform this Government into a government of some other form." McClatchy to the contrary notwithstanding, that is the big question.
There is so much ground to cover as Obamacare makes its formal appearance on the scene. I intend to make this the first of a continuing series.

Are Republican Politicians Really Stupid?
Posted: 18 Jun 2013 07:53 PM PDT
(John Hinderaker)
I have never thought so. On the contrary, the Republican politicians I know well are far smarter and much more hard-working than the public gives them credit for. Still, there are times when you wonder: are Republican politicians-not voters, but politicians-pathologically unable to learn from experience?
The current immigration controversy is a case in point. Who could possibly consider it a good idea to bring in one-quarter to one-third of the population of Mexico to compete for low-wage jobs with native Americans? Hey, they will now be legal, so it must be OK! Is it possible that anyone-not to mention a Republican office-holder-could be that stupid?
Unfortunately, it may be. Michael Ramirez reminds us that we have been down this path before, although in a far more benign form:
It seems inconceivable that today's Republican officeholders are dumb enough to be fooled again. Doesn't it?

We Should Reform Child Support

President Obama's Father's Day speech included one provocative yet very declarative sentence: "We should reform our child support laws to get more men working and engaged with their children." Obama didn't elaborate, but we can build on what he said because, yes indeed, child support laws urgently need "reform."

When stupid morphs into evil
Jun 19, 2013 06:13 am | Coach Collins
By Kevin "Coach" Collins
Democrats are liars and liars lie. Most of us learn this very early in life. Some of us never forget this, but some people prefer to delude themselves with, "The people in my circle aren't liars, they're good people or I would not associate with them." Unfortunately, for us most elected Democrats are liars and most elected Republicans are too dense to recognize this and treat them accordingly.
Does Marco Rubio realize Chuck Schumer is a liar? After dealing with him and his fellow Democrats for a few years it's hard to see how he couldn't recognize Schumer as a liar. He has said so himself on Schumer occasion when he has laughed at the idea of securing our borders. Yet Rubio and Kelly Ayotte and Lindsey Graham and John McCain and almost all Senate Republicans soldier on as if they ... Continue Reading:When stupid morphs into evil

House Bill Enforces Child Support Laws Internationally
Legislation streamlines enforcement of child support laws between states, nations
WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick (PA-8) voted Tuesday in support of
legislation that gives state and local child support enforcement officials access to the necessary
tools to make international enforcement.
"Parents attached to the financial commitment of supporting children should not be able to
escape that responsibility abroad," said Fitzpatrick of the International Child Support Recovery
Improvement Act [HR 1896] - which passed the House by a 394-27 vote. "This simple piece of
legislation allows for enforcement officials to work with local, state and international agencies
in effectively implementing child support laws."
International Child Support Recovery Improvement Act is the implementation mechanism for
the Hague Convention on International Recovery of Child Support and Other Forms of Family
Maintenance. The international agreement allows for the exchange of information and
enforcement of cases between nations.
"By streamlining the process, and increasing the recovery of child support payments HR 1896
is slated to save hardworking taxpayers nearly half a million dollars," continued Fitzpatrick.
In addition, the legislation standardizes child support case information in the same format as
child welfare, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), and unemployment insurance
program data- allowing researchers to further evaluate Federal reemployment programs.
"I am pleased this bill has once again passed the House with bipartisan support- ensuring the
best for our children is not a partisan issue or one that should be hindered by disjointed
regulations," added Fitzpatrick.
###
Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick is serving his third term in the U.S. House of Representatives. He represents Pennsylvania's
8th district which includes all of Bucks County as well as a portion of Montgomery County. He serves as the Vice Chairman
of the House Financial Services Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations.

Taxing Online Sales: Should the Taxman's Grasp Exceed His Reach?
The proposed Marketplace Fairness Act of 2013 would allow state governments to force retailers located in other states to collect their sales taxes. The act is meant to equalize the tax burdens between so-called brick-and-mortar retailers and their online counterparts, but, rather than equalize, the proposal would create new disparities and impose new burdens, to the detriment of small online businesses and American consumers.

The House of Representatives is preparing to vote on a $1 trillion package of agriculture subsidies and welfare benefits that exemplifies warped federal policy. Within its 575 pages, the proposed Federal Agriculture Reform and Risk Management Act includes massive spending on food stamps, a bumper crop of insurance subsidies, and lots of conservation largesse.
But there are also a multitude of lesser-known programs that will inflate commodity prices, escalate risks, and expand the size and scope of government. Below are 20 such programs that represent the noxious nature of the so-called farm bill.

Ethanol Mandate: Don't Mend It, End It
Praised as a policy that would reduce dependence on oil and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS), which requires refineries to blend ethanol into gasoline, has been fraught with unintended consequences. The RFS mandates the use of an inefficient fuel, drives up food prices, and causes adverse environmental effects. The 2012 drought and problems meeting the quotas in the RFS have put the program under the political microscope.
The Heritage Foundation's Nicolas Loris explains how the only true reform to the Renewable Fuel Standard is to eliminate it, and why Congress should repeal the costly and unnecessary mandate.

Call Now to Help Stop the Trillion Dollar Food Stamp Bill
Originally, the vote was scheduled for this week. Now, we're told the House is delaying the final vote on the trillion dollar food stamp and farm bill until next week.
Thanks to the full court press from thousands of conservatives like you and our team, we've got big government on the ropes.
>> Call Rep. Mike Fitzpatrick now to keep the pressure on.
The House is still planning to vote on funding President Obama's food stamp agenda next week, and the additional time is just what we need to show them enough is enough.
>> Make the call now and tell them to reject another trillion dollar spending bill.
Our team is working 24/7 to magnify your calls.
Thank you, in advance, for making the call.

Tea Party concerns with Gang of Eight 'Amnesty' immigration bill

PEASE: Tea Party concerns with Gang of Eight 'Amnesty' immigration bill
By Dr. Harold Pease
Houston Community Newspapers
Citing the thorough documentation provided by The Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), the Tea Party Patriots has officially expressed strong reservation with respect to what they now dub the Gang of Eight Amnesty Immigration Bill. They warn that S.744 "dramatically increases legal immigration, while doing virtually nothing to improve border security or immigration enforcement." It essentially legalizes that which used to be illegal and goes far to legitimizing open borders. If the establishment press shared with Americans what we share below the bill would have no chance of passage. Unfortunately they do not.
Dissecting the over 800-page bill section-by-section, four concerns are readily apparent. First, the bill "does not secure the border or strengthen national security." Instead, it "rewards law-breaking and encourages more illegal immigration." Twelve provisions documenting the above are noted, complete with section and page numbers. Among them are: the granting of legal status by the Department of Homeland Security "before any measure to secure the border has been taken." It does not "require a biometric exit system " to "track aliens who enter and leave the U.S., per current law." It does not "require any additional border fencing or completion of current border fence requirements." It does not require illegals "to pay back taxes before getting legal status...it only requires ... applicants to pay back taxes 'assessed' at the time of application." The new bill "does not require illegal aliens to learn English before receiving amnesty or even a green card." It does not "prevent future illegal immigration, ensure fiscal sustainability of the influx of immigrants to the United States," nor does it "end abuse of prosecutorial discretion or administrative amnesty by the Obama administration.
It does, however, increase access for illegal immigrants to the scarce jobs of U.S. workers. Moreover, it does allow "states to grant in-state tuition to illegal aliens-not the aliens who received amnesty, but all illegal aliens who arrive in the future."
Second, the bill "does not improve immigration enforcement or public safety. Instead, it undermines immigration enforcement and is riddled with waivers and loopholes:" DHS is allowed to wave-three or more times-"multiple misdemeanor convictions when granting amnesty." These include: "gang-related crimes and gang membership; three or more drunk driving offenses; domestic violence, stalking, child abuse, and violation of protective orders; committing crimes of moral turpitude; violating federal or state drug laws; trafficking in passports; providing fraudulent immigration services; trafficking immigration documents, including document fraud; prostitution; misrepresenting a material fact to procure visas or other immigration benefits; violating student visas; falsely claiming citizenship; and illegally re-entering the U.S. after deportation (which is a felony)."
The proposed new law "delays implementation of E-Verify to prevent illegals from being employed and voids state and local E-Verify laws. Amazingly it even creates "criminal penalties and a $10,000 fine for any federal official who discloses information found in RPI applications in violation of the law." And it does not "require the deportation of a single illegal alien" whose "application is denied-for any reason." The bill authorizes "illegal aliens to bring class action lawsuits against the government" and "allows the Department of Homeland Security to appoint counsel to illegal aliens fighting deportation at taxpayer expense."
The third major concern is that the "Gang of Eight" Amnesty Immigration Bill, according to the report, "does not prioritize the American worker at a time when 22 million Americans are unemployed or underemployed. Instead, S.744 hurts the American worker:" It does this by tripling immigration within a decade. In addition it "increases the number of guest workers by 50 percent over the decade after enactment." It enlarges the admission of additional unskilled workers each year to 200,000 and triples the number of skilled workers who may enter. "S.744 creates a new bureaucracy, the Office of Legal Access Programs, to provide illegal aliens with 'legal orientation programs' that help fight deportation. The bill requires DHS to make these programs available to the aliens within 5 days of being taken into custody. Section 3503 also authorizes the Office of Legal Access Programs to provide services, including legal services, to aliens in deportation hearings." All this, of course, dramatically increases "competition for Americans entering or working in those fields."
Finally, fourth, S.744 "does not prevent American taxpayers from subsidizing illegal immigration. In fact, it makes the current problem worse:" When permanent resident status is given "the alien need only demonstrate income or resources equal to 125 percent of the federal poverty level" to get assistance so our welfare system will be flooded. The bill also "creates a 'slush fund' for nonprofits that help implement the amnesty. Section 2537 authorizes DHS to award newly created 'Initial Entry, Adjustment, and Citizenship Assistance' (IEACA) grants to nonprofit organizations that help illegal aliens navigate the amnesty process. The bill appropriates $100 million for IEACA grants for the first five years and 'such sums as may be necessary for fiscal year 2019 and subsequent fiscal years'."
Who was it that said, "We have met the enemy and he is us?" The Tea Party Patriots have good reason to oppose this bill. It impacts all three of its core values: limited constitutional government, the free market, and fiscal responsibility. No piece of legislation could erase our southern border more effectively. A foreign power could not do more damage to our homeland security than our own U.S. Senate does in this one bill which now goes to a, hopefully, more responsible House of Representatives.

WEDNESDAY CHRONICLE Putting the Carrot Ahead of the StickJune 19, 2013
The Foundation
"The Alien bill proposed in the Senate is a monster that must forever disgrace its parents." --James Madison
Editorial Exegesis

"The Senate on Tuesday voted against tough border security measures that it promised to put in place years ago. Tell us again why we should trust them to secure the borders later after granting amnesty first. ... In 2006, Congress passed the Secure Fence Act, requiring 700 miles of double-tiered fencing get built along the Mexican border. ... A year later, Congress quietly passed a law that largely neutered the fence requirement, and today, only 36 miles of it have been built. ... Since the Senate is desperate to get amnesty done as soon as possible, it can't let little inconveniences like securing the border or tracking people coming into the country get in the way. As we've said many times in this space, border security has to come before any effort is made to grant legal status to today's 11 million illegals. For good reason: Failure to do so will only encourage more to cross the border, in the justifiable belief that once here they, too, will get citizenship without having to wait in line. We're already seeing illegal crossings increase even before the law is passed. ... History already proves that putting the carrot ahead of the stick doesn't work. The 1986 immigration law also promised to close gaps in the border in exchange for amnesty. But as soon as soon as Democrats got amnesty on the books, they started putting roadblocks in the way of enforcement. The result was that just three years after the bill's passage, illegal border crossings had actually increased, and today the number in the country illegally has climbed fourfold. A few days ago, [Senator Marco] Rubio said immigration reform had to ensure 'that we will never have another wave of illegal immigration again.' But with the Senate turning down every meaningful border security measure, that's the only thing we can guarantee will happen again if this bill becomes law." --Investor's Business Daily

Today: Updates -- S. 744 Amnesty Nightmare Gets Worse but Some Signs of Waking Up
|
|
|
|
Dear Opponents of Amnesty and Major Immigration Increase,
Several items to update you on regarding the situation in the Senate and the nationwide effort to oppose S. 744 (aka: the "Gang of Eight" or "Schumer-Rubio" bill). We've packed a lot in to one email so as to save coming to you more than absolutely necessary in between various requests for phone calls.
In this email:
1. CBO says S. 744 will lower wages and increase unemployment. 2. House Judiciary Committee passes an enforcement-only bill (without amnesty!). 3. Senate fails to pass any border security improvements thus far. 4. Sign new petition asking Sen. Rubio to pull deceptive ad. 5. New Florida billboard exposing Sen. Rubio. 6. American workers oppose S. 744 -- see new video
CBO Says S. 744 Lowers Wages, Increases Unemployment, and Won't Stop Illegal Immigration
Read Chris' blog reporting on the Congressional Budget Office analysis of S. 744 released yesterday. Among the key findings: CBO sa ys S. 744 would create higher unemployment, lower wages, and higher interest rates - but would only reduce illegal immigration by 25%.
NumbersUSA Director of Government Relations Rosemary Jenks says of the report,
"According to the CBO score of the Gang's immigration bill, Americans are being asked to trade a 12-year decline in wages for American workers, plus a 6-year increase in unemployment, for a measly 25% reduction in illegal immigration. This is a terrible deal for America. The Gang of Eight needs to scrap this bill and start over."
House Judiciary Committee Passes Strong Enforcement-Only Bill (No Amnesty)
Late last night the House Judiciary Committee passed H.R. 2278, the SAFE Act, by a vote of 20-15.
The SAFE Act improves the interior enforcement of our immigration laws by granting states and localities the authority to enforce federal immigration laws. Furthermore, it gives Immigration and Customs Enforcement the authority to arrest and detai n illegal aliens. The SAFE Act also contains provisions that strengthen the border and national security and allow Congress to review the Administration's use of prosecutorial discretion.
By passing the SAFE Act, the House Judiciary Committee sent a strong signal to the House Leadership and the Senate that the House prefers an enforcement-only, no amnesty approach to immigration reform.
Senate Rejects Every Border Security/Enforcement First Amendment Thus Far
We've asked many of you to phone your Senators in support of a couple of important border security/enf orcement amendments to S. 744. Unfortunately the Senate has rejected any legitimate effort to amend the bill into an enforcement-first bill. Thus, it remains amnesty first with empty promises of enforcement later.
Specifically, the following amendments FAILED this week:
THUNE AMDT No. 1197 failed 39 to 54 The Thune Amendment would have required the completion of the 350 miles of reinforced, double-layered fencing as required by current law before regi stered provisional immigrant (RPI) status may be granted and to require the completion of 700 miles of such fencing before the status of registered provisional immigrants may be adjusted to permanent resident status.
VITTER AMDT No. 1228 failed 36 to 58 The Vitter Amendment would have required full implementation of the entry/exit system at every sea, land, and airport of entry as required by current law before registered provision immigrant status may be granted.
LEE AMDT No. 1208 failed 39 to 59 The Lee Amendment would have required fast-track congressional approval when the Secretary of Homeland Security notifies Congress of the implementation of the border security strategies and certifies that the strategies are substantially operational.
To be clear, none of these amendments prevented the amnesty from happening. They all simply moved various enforcement measures ahead of the amnesty -- a proposition which is apparently unacceptable to a majority of Senators. However, in every case a solid group of Senators (close to the 41 needed to stop the b ill from passing the Senate) stood up for enforcement first. This is a positive sign, but not yet enough, as we move closer to the final vote.
We will keep you posted tomorrow and throughout the rest of the debate as other relevant amendments come up. But as it stands now, there appears to be absolutely no way to amend this bill into a good bill.
Sign New Petition Asking Sen. Rubio to Pull Deceptive Ad
By now, many of you have seen Sen. Marco Rubio's (R-FL) advertisement claiming that S. 744 "puts in place the toughest enforcement measures in U.S. history, possibly the world." You can join the growing movement of people demanding that he pull his deceptive ad by signing the new petition www.pullrubiofalsead.com .
You have probably also seen the anti-American-worker quote from the unnamed Rubio aide. Don't expect the Gang of Eight to worry about unemployment or depressed wages. Roy explains how their bill is itself an insult to American workers.
New Florida billboard exposing Sen. Rubio.
Although this is not the result of a NumbersUSA effort, we thought you'd enjoy seeing what some of your fellow activists in Florida have created to bring attention to Sen. Rubio's role in pushing amnesty.
New Video Shows American Workers Oppose S. 744
Defending American workers from the Gang of Eight's mass immigration bill is a constant effort but a new video illustrates tha t American workers really do oppose the bill. Click on the image below to watch the video.
THANK YOU
Thank you for your indefatigable efforts in this epic effort to protect American workers and block amnesty. We can only do this if we work together.

|
|
Phone Your Sens. to support Cruz and Lee Amendments
|
|
|
|
Dear Friends,
I'm sending this special alert to an elite group of our activists in hopes that you will take a few minutes today to call your two Senators asking them to support two enforcement-first amendments to S. 744 that will be considered today.
Call your Senators: 888-995-6513
Ask them: Please vote Yes on the Cruz and Lee Amendments today.
Today, the Senate will continue its consideration of the Gang of Eight's immigration bill, S.744. We expect votes today this afternoon on two very important security-first amendments. Any Senator voting against these amendments is basically casting a vote in favor of Amnesty First.
- Cruz Amendment #1320 - Offered by Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), this amendment would require comple tion of reinforced, double-layered border fencing and completion of the biometric entry/exit system at all ports of entry (both of which are required under current law before illegal aliens can receive Registered Provisional Immigrant (RPI) status.
- Lee Amendment #1208 - Offered by Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT), this amendment would require Congressional approval of the border plan before illegal aliens can receive RPI status.
Call Your Senators
|
Calling is simple! You can use the toll-free number we've provided below that will connect you to the Capitol Switchboard. When the operator answers, ask to be connected to your Senator's office. When the staffer answers, tell him/her that you want the Senator to vote YES on the Cruz amendment #1320 and Lee amendment #1208 to S.744.
888-995-6513
Thank You
We've been coming to you fast and furiously this week and the pace is likely to keep up until the final Senate vote expected next week. Every call you make is counted and helpful so please stick with us. Your daily calls opposi ng this Amnesty First, Enforcement Maybe Later bill are absolutely critical to defeating it.

AZ voter ID law overturned; little effect seen on Pennsylvania law - Pennsylvanians undoubtedly will be wondering whether today's US Supreme Court decision striking down Arizona's voter ID law will have any impact on Pennsylvania's equally controversial voter ID law.
TENNESSEE
TN to Review Proof of Citizenship Ruling - Tennessee election officials planto review a U.S. Supreme Court ruling that says states can't demand proof of citizenship from people registering to vote in federal elections unless they get federal or court approval to do so.
