U.S. publishes details of missile base Israel wanted kept secret
By Sheera Frenkel | McClatchy Foreign Staff TEL AVIV, Israel -
Israel's military fumed Monday over the discovery that the U.S. government had revealed details of a top-secret Israeli military installation in published bid requests.
The Obama administration had promised to build Israel a state-of-the-art facility to house a new ballistic-missile defense system, the Arrow 3. As with all Defense Department projects, detailed specifications were made public so that contractors could bid on the $25 million project. The specifications included more than 1,000 pages of details on the facility, ranging from the heating and cooling systems to the thickness of the walls.
"If an enemy of Israel wanted to launch an attack against a facility, this would give him an easy how-to guide. This type of information is closely guarded and its release can jeopardize the entire facility," said an Israeli military official who commented on the publication of the proposal but declined to be named because he wasn't authorized to discuss the facility. He declined to say whether plans for the facility have been altered as a result of the disclosure.
"This is more than worrying, it is shocking," he said.

John Kerry OPENLY BLAMES ISRAEL FOR ISLAMIC TERRORISM,
From Our Own Liberty News Team

The following clip shows Secretary of State John Kerry telling the American Jewish Committee new surges of terrorism is Israel's fault.
Secretary of State John Kerry claimed Monday that Israel's failure to foster peace with the Palestinians fuels extremism and terrorism across the world in his address before the American Jewish Committee's annual policy conference in Washington, D.C.
 | Kerry: Everyone Is Invested In Middle East Peace |
The Palestinians will only accept a scenario where Israel forfeits land. So it's Israel's fault they are being attacked for not wanting to give up their land?

Make Room for Islamistgate: The Obama Administration's New Scandal |
Up to now the Obama Administration has faced three big scandals-the IRS, the bugging of AP and Fox, and Benghazi. And now here is scandal Number 4:
For the last four years the Obama Administration has conducted a major "outreach" program to Islamic groups in the United States and in the Middle East. Patrick Poole has been investigating this project and in a comprehensive article now presents the full scoop and scope of what's been going on. His article, "Blind to Terror: The U.S. Government's Disastrous Muslim Outreach Efforts and the Impact on U.S. Policy" in the new, Summer, issue of MERIA Journal is a gamechanger
You may think that you know about this subject but it goes far beyond what you have heard about. The majority of groups and individuals promoted by the Obama Administration have been radical Islamists, particularly Muslim Brotherhood cadre, and more than occasionally people involved in terrorist activity. Moderate Muslims have been neglected and isolated by this project which has helped the radicals, Islamists, and pro-terrorists gain hegemony in the Muslim community in America. Again, you may think that you know this story but it is far more extensive than has ever before been revealed. Often, the White House and FBI have granted access and worked with those who were simultaneously being investigated on serious charges of terrorism. The whole "outreach" program has been a farce and it would be charitable to describe it as incompetent on the part of the Obama Administration. Patrick Poole pulls all of the material together for the first time and shows serious flaws that have endangered Americans in scores of cases. Radicals have been given credentials as moderates, been provided with information that should have remained secret, been allowed to advise and influence U.S. policy. The kind of government mishandling of terrorist threats that characterize the Fort Hood case and the Boston bombing has been business as usual. The results of this investigation should be a serious embarrassment for the Obama Administration and should be distributed as widely as possible. Here is a portion of Patrick Poole's article: "When President Obama hosted his annual Iftar dinner in August 2010 to commemorate the Muslim celebration of Ramadan, the list of invitees published by the White House was curiously missing the names of several attendees - all of whom were top leaders of organizations known to be purveyors of jihadist ideology and implicated by federal prosecutors in financing terrorism.

Please stop using Gmail. Gmail is part of Zgoogle and Google sits on the right hand of President Obama. They track everything that you do. James Rosen of Fox News used Gmail.

Google Needs Extra Time to Spy on Your Kids
It seems that Google is constantly falling afoul of conservatives, consumers, pundits, regulators and really everyone else on earth (except for the Obama campaign) for its privacy-infringing tendencies.
It got hammered for "alleged" spying in the Safarigate scandal, where it wound up agreeing to a record-breaking $22.5 million fine in connection with charges it surreptitiously tracked Apple Safari users who Google had said could opt out of tracking, and did what Google said was necessary to opt out. This spying of course enabled Google to grab data it shouldn't have had, to improve its highly profitable targeted ad business, and do it in a way that amounted to a violation of its contract with users. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →

Dear Members and Friends,
As you know, since our first in the nation (May 13) call for a Special Prosecutor in the IRS Scandal (see press release below), we have been joined by an expanding chorus of talk show hosts, political pundits, elected officials--and 76% of the American people (Quinnipiac Poll).
While we hope for a Special Prosecutor, who, unlike all other investigators, would have the power to grant witness immunity, setup grand juries, and initiate criminal indictments--we also greatly support Congressional investigations as they are providing Tea Party victims with the opportunity to voice their concerns over IRS harassment.
Please watch the clear, dignified, intelligent, and powerful way in which the WETUMPKA Tea Party leader expresses herself, today, in the following video.

In case you missed it, Peggy Noonan's recent column (link below) brilliantly argues the case for a Special Prosecutor appointment:
But, of course, the Obama administration continues to stonewall. White House Advisor David Plouffe became the latest Obama administration official (Sunday) to rule out any chance that a Special Prosecutor will be appointed.
Please read (below) our Sunday press release in response to Mr. Plouffe.
Suggested action: If you haven't done so already, call the White House comment line @ 202.456.1111 and request that the Obama administration appoint a Special Prosecutor and fire Eric Holder.
Update: April/May Money Drop
Our April/May Pot of Gold Money Drop has reached the 95% mark!

Administration to appoint a Special Prosecutor in the IRS Scandal and rallying legislative support for limited government, lower taxes, and free enterprise in DC,
Dover, Harrisburg, and Trenton.
Many thanks to those who have already "dropped a donation!"
In order to reach our goal, we are extending our fundraiser until 6 PM tomorrow (Wednesday).

Tea Party Says Today's Comments by White House Advisor Plouffe Wrong on Special Prosecutor; Suggests White House Stonewalling in Attempt to Cover-up
Philadelphia, PA (June 2, 2013) -- The Independence Hall Tea Party Association, the first conservative group in the nation to call on the Obama Administration to appoint a Special Prosecutor to investigate the IRS scandal, says White House Advisor David Plouffe wrongly dismissed the need for a Special Prosecutor, today, while at the same time inferring that the Administration and the IRS can be trusted as they conduct their own separate investigations into the scandal.
http://www.politico.com/blogs/politico-live/2013/06/plouffe-no-special-prosecutor-necessary-on-irs-scandal-165191.html
"Plouffe's comments are laughable," said Association President Teri Adams. "The White House is saying, in essence, that it should be trusted to investigate itself when its own credibility is in question on so many issues--ranging from Benghazi to the AP scandal.
"Somehow, we're suppose to put our faith in Eric Holder and the IRS chief to get to the bottom of the IRS scandal?
"According to a recent Quinnipiac Poll, 76% of Americans support the appointment of a Special Prosecutor.
"By delaying the appointment, the Administration is stonewalling and covering-up either for itself and/or its IRS allies," said Ms. Adams.
"The Obama Administration knows that a Special Prosecutor would be more likely to get to the bottom of the matter, because unlike the current heads of the ongoing investigations, a Special Prosecutor would be able to grant immunity to informers, initiate grand juries, and criminally indict anyone guilty of violating the law.
"Once again, we demand the Obama Administration appoint a Special Prosecutor."

First Group to Call for Special Prosecutor Says White House Now Stonewalling in IRS Scandal; Says
Administration and IRS Lack Credibility to Investigate
Philadelphia, PA (May 31, 2013) -- The Independence Hall Tea Party Association, the largest and oldest independent Tea Party group in the Tri-State region and the first conservative group in the nation to call on the Obama Administration to appoint a Special Prosecutor to investigate the IRS scandal, is accusing the White House of stonewalling. (See original press releases and news story links below.)
The Washington Post reported late yesterday that on an earlier flight
aboard Air Force One, White House Deputy Press Secretary Josh Earnest said the Administration will not appoint a Special Prosecutor in the matter despite the fact that a recent Quinnipiac University Poll found that
76 percent of Americans support such an appointment.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/post-politics/wp/2013/05/30/white-house-no-special-prosecutor-for-irs-scandal-despite-public-support/
"Incredibly, Mr. Earnest announced, yesterday, that the IRS and the Obama Administration will lead its own investigation into the IRS scandal despite the wishes of the American people," said Association President Teri Adams.
"You can't allow the accused to investigate themselves in such a highly explosive scandal.
The Obama Administration knows that a Special Prosecutor would have a greater ability to get to the bottom of the matter, because unlike Congress, the prosecutor would be able to grant immunity to informers, initiate grand juries, and criminally indict anyone guilty of violating the law.
"By delaying a serious targeted investigation, the Obama Administration is
allowing several competing investigations, including those conducted by Congress, to wander and drift in various directions," said Ms. Adams.
"Its clear to us that the White House is intentionally stonewalling for the purpose of covering up and obfuscating the truth in a Nixon-esque abuse of power."

First Group to Call for Special Prosecutor,
Reiterates its Demand; Says Attorney General
Eric Holder Cannot Conduct a Credible Investigation
Philadelphia, PA (May 17, 2013) -- The Independence Hall Tea Party Association, the largest independent Tea Party group in the Tri-State region and, as of this past Monday morning, the first conservative group in the nation to call on the Obama Administration to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate the IRS scandal, is reiterating its demand today--especially in light of what has been learned since the news story surfaced last Friday. (See original news stories links and press release below.)
http://www.breakingnews.com/item/ahZzfmJyZWFraW5nbmV3cy13d3ctaHJkcg0LEgRTZWVkGNOd-A4M/2013/05/13/independence-hall-tea-party-association-calls-on-white-house-to-appoin
http://pittsburgh.cbslocal.com/2013/05/13/tea-party-pushes-back-against-irs-intimidation/
"Late Monday afternoon, the public learned that the Obama administration, with Attorney General Eric Holder's approval, wiretapped the Associated Press and, perhaps, other news organizations," said Association President
Teri Adams.
"On Tuesday of this past week, the Treasury Department's Inspector General disclosed, in his report, that nearly 500 conservative groups who applied for tax-exempt status dating back to March, 2010, many of them Tea Party and Patriot organizations, had been targeted for harassment by the IRS with burdensome delays and inappropriate inquiries."
"The following day, Eric Holder said the Office of Attorney General would
lead an investigation into the brewing IRS Scandal.
"That's just not acceptable," said Ms. Adams. Mr. Holder, as a representative of the Obama Administration, which could possibly be implicated in this scandal and one involving the wiretapping of various news organizations, has a serious conflict of interest.
"While Congressional hearings are also taking place in the House of Representatives, those proceedings are subject to criticism, legitimate or not, that they are partisan in nature.
"That is why a special prosecutor or counsel should immediately be
appointed to investigate this highly explosive scandal," said Ms. Adams.
"The appointment of a special prosecutor is the only serious way to get to the bottom of this mess."

Group Demands Special Prosecutor Be Appointed in IRS Scandal; Suggests Obama Administration Could Be Implicated
Philadelphia, PA (May 13, 2013) -- The Independence Hall Tea Party Association, the largest independent Tea Party group in the Tri-State region, is calling on the Obama Administration to appoint a special prosecutor to get to the bottom of the recent IRS scandal.
A rather peculiar and curiously-timed statement issued this past Friday, by mid-level IRS administrator Lois Lerner, said that the agency had been singling out Tea Party and Patriot groups who filed for 501c tax-exempt status by forcing them to undergo additional burdensome scrutiny above and beyond the standard application process.
IRS intimidation of conservative groups has been ongoing since 2010.
"None of this is news to the Independence Hall Tea Party Association," said Association President Teri Adams. "Due to our concerns with the Obama Administration's influence over the IRS, the Association decided not to file for federal tax-exempt status."
"In addition, unlike most Tea Party groups across the nation, we formed a federal PAC to handle political endorsements and activities--making it less likely that we would become targets of an IRS inquiry.
"The harassment of conservative groups by an arm of the US government is frightening, un-American, and Nixon-esque," said Ms. Adams.
"We call on the Obama administration to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate the IRS and any other government entity or official linked to this brewing scandal. This would include anyone directly or indirectly connected to the Obama administration.
"As for the IRS, the Association, like everyone else, is waiting for the full report of the Treasury Department's Inspector General--which is expected in the next few days.
"The Inspector General's report, we insist, should signal the beginning of a more thorough investigation--not the last word in this highly explosive affair."

FROM THE DIRECTOR OF GODS AND GENERALS AND GETTYSBURG COMES THE LIBERTY MOVIE OF THE YEAR
RON MAXWELL'S COPPERHEAD
For anyone who reveres and believes in the preservation of the Constitution of the United States, Copperhead is a must see this summer!
Copperhead is unlike any Civil War movie to date. It is a film of the war at home - of a family ripped apart by war, of a community driven to an appalling act of vengeance against a man who insists on exercising his right to free speech during wartime. A story of the violent passions and burning feuds that set ablaze the homefront during the Civil War, Copperhead the movie is also a timeless and deeply moving examination of the price of dissent, the place of the individual amidst the hysteria of wartime, and the terrible price of war - a cost measured not in dollars but in fractured families, broken loves, and men dead before their time.
Based on the extraordinary novel by Harold Frederic, who witnessed these conflicts firsthand as a small child, Copperhead tells the story of Abner Beech, a stubborn and righteous farmer of Upstate New York, who defies his neighbors and his government in the bloody and contentious autumn of 1862.

And here's some really great news: This year's registration fee is only $229! Register by April 15th and you'll receive our "Early Bird" rate of just $189!
|
We also offer again this year special benefits for Patriot Eagle and Patriot sponsors. We have some exciting new wrinkles planned for this year's event, and our list of confirmed speakers already includes:
- Steven Emerson - Journalist, author, and the Executive Editor of the Investigative Project on Terrorism. A. M. Rosenthal, late-managing editor of The New York Times, described Emerson as "one of the nation's best national security correspondents."

- Ezra Levant - Canadian lawyer, author, newspaper columnist with Sun Media, and former publisher of the Western Standard. Hauled before a Canadian "human rights commission" because he published the Danish cartoons that satirized Muhammad, Levant's personal account of a politically correct government inquisition is something you won't want to miss!

From a trusted friend:
As some of you may know, I am associated with Coventry Christian Schools as a parent of a graduate (2010) and as member of the Board of Trustees. Last October we spent a wonderful evening honoring Mark Niehls at our revitalized Founder's Dinner and celebrated our shared heritage in the remarkable community that is Coventry Christian Schools. Our vision for future Founder's Dinners is to inspire and inform not only our alumni and current CCS families but to inspire and inform the Tri-County Area and even our region by hosting speakers and artists who can uniquely assist us in celebrating the heritage, core values, and mission of CCS while also lifting our vision for an even greater future built upon the foundation of our past. The caliber of our speakers and guest artists should provide us with wonderful opportunities to share our CCS story with new partners in Christian education. Proceeds from the dinner will be applied to our annual Coventry Kids Fund for CCS scholarships.
This year we are proud to announce that our distinguished guest and speaker is Dr. Benjamin Carson, and our dinner's theme is "Faith of Our Fathers: The Role of Faith in American Schools." Please join us as we welcome Dr. Carson to the Tri-County Area and celebrate the great things God is doing at CCS!
Dr. Carson is a highly regarded neurosurgeon and motivational speaker who has addressed various audiences across the country. He is one of the most honored and recognized physicians in the world and holds more than 60 honorary doctorate degrees along with hundreds of awards and citations. He is a recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honor in the United States. He is the author of five books and is the founder of the Carson Scholars Fund. The 2009 award-winning movie entitled Gifted Hands: The Ben Carson Story, starring Cuba Gooding, Jr. as Carson, premiered on TNT and is based on his memoir. Dr. Carson is an authentic disciple of Christ, has been married to his wife Candy for more than 37 years, and is the father of three sons.
The 2013 Founder's Dinner, which will once again be a part of our Homecoming festivities, will be held at the historic Sunnybrook Ballroom in Pottstown on Sunday, October 13th, 2013. MAY 29, 2013 * BY JAMIE GASS AND JIM STERGIOS
When President Obama unveiled his Race to the Top initiative in 2009, the idea was to award $4.35 billion in federal grant money to states to replicate policies that boosted student achievement. That quickly changed and the federal money was instead used to persuade states to adopt administration-backed nationalized K-12 English and math standards and tests. By last year, most states had adopted the standards, known as Common Core, and it seemed a foregone conclusion that the United States would join countries like France in having a uniform curriculum.
But what a difference a year makes. Today, a full-blown epidemic of buyer's remorse has taken hold. Popular resistance is rampant and bills to pull out of Common Core are making their way through multiple state legislatures.
Had the Obama administration been interested in policies with a proven record of improving students' academic performance, it would have looked to Massachusetts. In the early 1990s, Massachusetts was an above average but unremarkable performer on the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) and SATs. After enactment of the Bay State's landmark 1993 education reform law, SAT scores rose for 13 consecutive years. In 2005, Massachusetts students became the first state ever to score best in the nation in all four categories on the NAEP's fourth and eighth grade reading and math assessments. The next three times the tests were administered-in 2007, 2009, and 2010-this feat was repeated.

'Common Core' Nationalizes and Dumbs Down Public School Curriculum
by Ron Paul: In addition to shredding civil liberties, launching a utopian global war for democracy, and going on a spending spree that would make LBJ blush, the so-called "conservative" Bush administration dramatically increased federal control over education via the "No Child Left Behind" act. During my time in Congress I heard nothing but complaints about this law from teachers, administrators, and, most importantly, students and parents. Most of the complaints concerned No Child Left Behind's testing requirements, which encouraged educators to "teach to the test." Sadly, but not surprisingly, instead of improving education by repealing No Child Left Behind's testing and other mandates, the Obama administration is increasing national control over schools via the "Common Core" initiative. Common Core is a new curriculum developed by a panel of so-called education experts. The administration is trying to turn Common Core into a national curriculum by offering states increased federal education funding if they impose Common Core's curriculum on their public schools. This is yet another example of the government using money stolen from the people to bribe states into obeying federal dictates. Critics of Common Core say it "dumbs down" education by replacing traditional English literature with "informational texts". So students will read such inspiring materials as studies by the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, the EPA's "Recommended Levels of Insulation," and "Invasive Plant Inventory" by California's Invasive Plant Council. It is doubtful that reading federal reports will teach students the habits of critical thinking and skepticism of government that the Founders considered essential to maintaining a free republic. Like Obamacare, Common Core (now dubbed "ObamaCore" by some) has sparked a backlash in the states, leading some to propose legislation forbidding state participation in the scheme. I hope these efforts lead to states not just opting out of Common Core, but out of No Child Left Behind and all other federal education programs as well. Parents can also effectively "opt out" of programs like Common Core by seeking alternatives to government education. It is no coincidence that, as federal control over education increases, the quality of public education has declined and more parents have chosen to homeschool.
Push Against Common Core Gains MomentumAs parents, citizens, and legislators learn more about Common Core, some are deciding it is not the best means of improving American education. Parents in many states are mounting grassroots campaigns against Common Core's standardization of learning and federal testing of students. In April, the Republican National Committee issued a resolution rejecting Common Core, saying it is a "plan [that] creates and fits the country with a nationwide straitjacket on academic freedom and achievement." Critics of Common Core say it is an untried experiment that lacks legitimacy and empirical study and is now being foisted upon the entire U.S. school system. It has the potential to waste billions of dollars, multiple years of education efforts, and the learning potential of all schoolchildren. Several state legislatures are considering withdrawing from Common Core (CC), delaying or not funding implementation, or withdrawing from national testing by government-funded consortia. Four states never adopted CC: Alaska, Nebraska, Texas, and Virginia. Minnesota accepted CC English standards, but rejected CC math. Private organizations developed CC; it was neither debated in public nor enacted by state legislators. Certainly many Common Core promoters believe further centralization of education will improve educational outcomes, but power and cash may also be motivating some supporters. There is an immense amount of money flowing to public education because of Common Core implementation, and also to specific companies that are CC public-private partners that develop curriculum, create tests, and train educators to teach Common Core. I wonder what it is going to take to make our legislators step back and really look at what Common Core is presenting to our children and listen to the TRUE facts. They want to raise our scoring levels up so the "states" are first - not giving any thought as to what they are being taught by using something that is going to dumb them down to the Skinner and Pavlov type of indoctrination. Please share these videos with anyone you know that has children in school - as I stated before - the combination of what they are being presented through the ELA books and the added effort of making them study informational and technical textbooks and as this video reports - the book they are talking about is "Voices" - Example: the book asks the question - "Your mother ___________ you to clean your room and the choices for the answer are "tells" or "nags" implementing a negative attitude with the parent which is part of this goal. These video's have been done by UTAHANS Against Common Core! |

Celebrating 7 years: June 25, 2013
A message from TAC founder/executive director, Michael Boldin
In 2006, when I founded the TAC, my initial goal was to reach just a handful of people. Today, TAC is becoming a political force - far beyond anything I had originally expected.
As the nullification movement has gone mainstream, we've got big plans for taking it to the next level - and the next. Over the coming weeks, I'll be sharing with you some details of what's in the works - both for upgrades to the TAC website and our longer strategy. In the meantime, if you're wanting to help us get more done, visit the following link. THANK YOU for being a part of our work!

RedState Morning Briefing
For June 5, 2013
1. The Predictable Narrative May Not Be
We are used to hearing the GOP is doomed with hispanic voters unless they do all sorts of things. I think much of what is said is said in a vacuum. Events and personalities change things. Likewise, I just don't think the narrative is really as awful for the Republicans as so many in the press would have us believe.
Consider Florida.
Today, Governor Rick Scott vetoed legislation that would have given illegal aliens drivers licenses. The sensational National Journal headline is "Florida Governor's Immigration Veto Predicted to Set Off 'Anti-Hispanic Bomb'."
It plays off a quote from Democratic state Sen. Darren Soto who said, "Make no mistake about it: This will be an anti-Hispanic bomb if he vetoes this bill."
But consider Rick Scott's history for just a minute. His support in the hispanic community has fallen to around 33%, but his popularity has fallen across the board. He's working now on rebuilding his popularity. But in 2010, Rick Scott campaign as an immigration hardliner. He campaigned against amnesty. He campaigned against drivers licenses for illegal aliens. He campaigned against comprehensive immigration reform. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
2. New Dairy Supply Management Program Must Stop
Free markets in the Western world today are created and driven by one basic philosophy - that decisions about production and manufacturing may be made by a business, but ultimately their success or failure is determined by the marketplace. Supply and demand still rule in free markets, as they should. The United States has a long tradition of supporting free markets and open competition in our capitalist society, a history that must continue for our nation to remain competitive in the global marketplace.
That global competition is why I am so concerned about efforts in Congress to create a new supply management program for our nation's dairy farmers. Our farmers and ranchers are working hard to compete in a global marketplace, and Congress should not create new barriers to letting U.S. agriculture products into the global marketplace. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
3. Democrats Publicly Endorse Profiling
Just over a year ago Democrats railed against Arizona constituents for passing what Dems viewed to be an immigration law based on profiling. Democrats railed against the airport security profiling. Yet now, they whole-heartedly support it, just so long as it's the IRS doing it as a punitive measure against their opponents. McDermott blames tea party groups's treatment on their suggestive clothing, so to speak . . . please click here for the rest of the post →

The IRS and Obamacare, by the Numbers
06/05/2013
Chilling new details emerged yesterday about the IRS targeting scandal, as representatives from six conservative groups testified before Congress about the scrutiny and demands they faced from Obama administration bureaucrats. Yesterday's testimony reminded us once again why Washington bureaucrats cannot be trusted, and why Americans should be so concerned about the new powers granted to the IRS as a result of Obamacare. These powers are so vast, in fact, they're difficult to put into words. So instead, we decided to give you the numbers: 18-New taxes in Obamacare, including 12 that directly violate then-Senator Barack Obama's "firm pledge" to those making under $250,000 per year that he would not "raise any of your taxes." 47-New provisions Obamacare charges the IRS with implementing, according to the Government Accountability Office. $695-Tax for not buying "government-approved" health insurance the IRS will be charged with enforcing on all Americans. 1,954-Full-time bureaucrats the IRS wants to devote to Obamacare implementation and enforcement in the upcoming fiscal year. 60,000,000-Medical records the IRS has been charged with improperly seizing, raising concerns about whether the agency can handle the personal health insurance information all Americans will be required to submit to the IRS. $439,584,000-The IRS's request for new spending on Obamacare implementation in the upcoming fiscal year; the request did not specify how much of those funds the IRS will spend on the "Cupid shuffle." 6,100,000,000-Man-hours Americans already devote to tax compliance, according to the National Taxpayer Advocate, a burden that will rise significantly thanks to Obamacare. $1,000,000,000,000-New revenue raised by Obamacare in its first 10 years alone, according to the Congressional Budget Office, sums that will only rise in future decades. If ever there were an argument as to why Obamacare should be repealed and defunded, these numbers-coupled with the IRS revelations of recent weeks-tell the tale.

Shalom ZOA Members, Friends and Supporters of Israel, While the Annual ZOA Washington Advocacy Mission took place on May 22 and was truly a wonderful day, the work to get members of Congress to co-sponsor the bills and resolutions that ZOA has deemed crucially important to Israel continues. Below is a rundown of the legislative items including the item number, the current number of co-sponsors and a brief description of what the item is about. In some cases, a local lawmaker is already a co-sponsor, and on one item, a local lawmaker introduced the measure. Please take a few minutes to call your senators and your House member in the next couple days. Remind those that are not yet co-sponsors that ZOA members were in their office on May 22 to speak about these items. Then please ask that the lawmaker become a co-sponsor. In cases where a lawmaker already is a co-sponsor, please thank them. Attached is an updated list of lawmakers from the Philadelphia area, parts of New Jersey and Delaware. Please print it out for this purpose and keep it handy throughout the year. Thanks again to those who took time out from their busy schedules to participate in the Washington Mission, and a special thanks to those who brought their children and grandchildren with them. Immigration "reform" and national security Sign our Open Letter to the leaders of the U.S. Congress Legislation dubbed as "comprehensive immigration reform" is scheduled to head to the Senate floor this month. Unfortunately, promises to ensure that the border is secured before millions of illegal immigrants are allowed into our country remain just that-PROMISES.
There is no requirement in the current Senate bill that our border be secured FIRST before doing anything else regarding immigration reform.
|
What's more, jihadist terrorist attacks going as far back as 9/11/01 and as recent as the Boston Marathon demonstrate that our visa process is in dire need of reform to ensure that prospective terrorists can't abuse it. The Senate bill doesn't accomplish this either. In short, from a national security perspective, the Senate bill is sorely lacking and it's important that the U.S. Congress hear from the folks back home that this just isn't acceptable. This is why we're urging you to sign our Open Letter to the leadership of the U.S. Congress today-to send a loud and clear message that before they move forward on any other immigration reform matters, our border must be secured and our visa process effectively reformed. We have an opportunity over the coming weeks to ensure that flawed immigration legislation does not move forward. This Open Letter will increase our chances of doing so. Your signature is your VOICE. Will you help?

The IRS is also the chief enforcer of Obamacare requirements.

Morning Jolt . . . with Jim Geraghty
June 4, 2013
Did the Outlook for the Gang of Eight Dim a Little Bit in the Past 24 Hours?
Can one man make a difference? In the Senate, the passing of one man can indeed:
[Senate majority leader Harry] Reid must scrape even harder now that [the late Senator Frank] Lautenberg's successor is expected to be a Republican. The state's governor, Chris Christie, a Republican, will make the appointment.
"The last thing Senator Reid can afford right now is to lose a reliable Democratic vote in a highly partisan Senate," said Jim Manley, a former adviser to the majority leader when the illnesses of Edward M. Kennedy and Robert C. Byrd caused problems for Democrats, who controlled even fewer seats.
"He's got a better margin to play with than he did back when Senator Byrd and Senator Kennedy were sick," Mr. Manley added. "But the fact of the matter is it's tough to lose a reliable Democratic vote right now."
Governor Christie's appointee will arrive in the Senate as the body prepares to tackle some of the most significant domestic policy issues in years.
An immigration overhaul is at the top of the Senate agenda and will move to the floor next week. Like any other matter that the Senate takes up these days, the threat of a filibuster all but requires the support of 60 senators, the threshold at which a filibuster can be broken.
Though Republicans and Democrats who support significant changes in the country's immigration laws agree that the plan stands a good chance of getting 60 votes, they have been counting every head, leaving nothing to chance.
And now Senator Marco Rubio, Florida Republican and Numero Uno of the Gang of Ocho, is sounding a little shaky:
Sen. Marco Rubio threatened in a video today to walk away from immigration reform if additional enforcement measures are not added to the bill. "Let me tell you, there will have to be improvements," he says in the latest installment of his constituent mailbag series.
But don't get too alarmed (or hopeful). Yet.
The Florida Republican has been walking the fine line for months now, trying to forge a deal while battling resistance from conservatives. Though his office initially promoted the legislation -- which Rubio helped write -- as the toughest in history, the senator is now working behind the scenes on changes. The main tweak would make Congress, not the Department of Homeland Security, come up with a border security plan.
[I] give you my word, that if this issue becomes one of those old-fashioned Washington issues where they start horse trading, one part of it for another part of it. If each of these are not dealt with as separate issues even though they are dealt with in one bill, then I won't be able to support that anymore," he says. "I made that very clear from the beginning, and I continue to make that clear now. And that's why I continue to ask for an open, transparent and extensive process. So the American people can know exactly what it is we're doing, so that all views can be considered and heard, and so improvements can be made to this legislation. And let me tell you, there will have to be improvements."
In a development that I'm sure will shock you, Mark Kirkorian is unpersuaded by Rubio's latest remarks.
Research: Diehard Partisans Will Take Off Their Blinders - If You Pay Them Enough
Here's something fascinating: Partisans will describe events as they wish to see them, even contradicting established facts and the historical record . . . until there's money on the line. Then all of a sudden their memory improves and their memory of recent news events and trends gets a lot better:
Political scientists John Bullock, Alan Gerber, Gregory Huber (all at Yale) and Seth Hill (at UC-San Diego) have a new paper that presents strong evidence for the they're-just-liars theory.
They ran two experiments. In the first, they split respondents into two groups: Those in the control group were asked basic factual questions about politics; those in the treatment group were asked the same questions but were entered into a raffle for an Amazon gift card wherein their chances depended on how many questions they got right.
In the control group, the authors find what Bartels, Nyhan and Reifler found: There are big partisan gaps in the accuracy of responses. On every question but one on whether the deficit rose under George W. Bush, there were statistically significant differences in Republicans and Democrats' responses. For example, Republicans were likelier than Democrats to correctly state that U.S. casualties in Iraq fell from 2007 to 2008, and Democrats were likelier than Republicans to correctly state that unemployment and inflation rose under Bush's presidency.
But when there was money on the line, the size of the gaps shrank by 55 percent. The researchers ran another experiment, in which they increased the odds of winning for those who answered the questions correctly but also offered a smaller reward to those who answered "don't know" rather than answering falsely. The partisan gaps narrowed by 80 percent.
Take unemployment: Without any money involved, Democrats' estimates of the change in unemployment under Bush were about 0.9 points higher than Republicans' estimates. But when correct answers were rewarded, that gap shrank to 0.4 points. When correct answers and "don't knows" were rewarded, it shrank to 0.2 points.
The authors conclude that false answers - like Democrats saying that casualties in Iraq increased from 2007 to 2008 - are just cheap talk, a way to signal a party affiliation rather than a sincere belief.
It does suggest that Democrats and Republicans don't inhabit totally different worlds. Maybe they just don't take survey questions very seriously.
Your Mission, Should You Choose to Accept It: Blowing Up the Existing Culture of the Federal Bureaucracy
Monty at Ace of Spades offers an essay that every GOP member of Congress ought to read, and that every Republican elected at the federal level should keep in mind for the foreseeable future:
The IRS is not supposed to be a partisan agency. The federal bureaucracy was explicitly designed to be non-partisan so that it would impartially enforce the tax laws and regulations passed by the Congress and approved by the Executive. But the IRS like many other federal bureaucracies tends to be staffed by people -- especially at the management level -- who believe in robust, activist government. In other words: it is staffed mainly by Democrats. And however nonpartisan the organization is supposed to be, it cannot help but reflect the culture of the people who comprise it. The IRS, being led by and staffed with activist-minded Democrats, cannot help but reflect that worldview. The culture reinforces itself because adherence to the culture is the only way to move up. Dissenters and contrarians do not last long in an organization like the IRS (any more than they do at the FBI or EPA or DoJ).
It's no surprise to hear that Lois Lerner's husband is a high-priced lawyer with an affinity for liberal activism. It's no surprise that Douglas Shulman's wife heads a liberal group dedicated to campaign finance reform. You'll find the same pattern repeated throughout the organization, no doubt. Like seeks out like. The culture reinforces itself. Everybody's kids go to the same schools, everybody knows everybody else's first name, and no one has to discuss politics because it's simply understood. The same thing happens at college campuses. Liberal politics, statism, the primacy of the regulatory state: it's just the water these people swim in.
This is the basic danger of a government that has grown too large. The federal machinery will trend Democrat no matter who happens to occupy the White House, Senate, or House of Representatives. And this is because the ideology that drives people to vote Democrat is also the ideology that makes them want to work for federal bureaucracies. The organizational culture in American federal service has become not just partisan but positively messianic during the age of Obama -- they're doing it for your own good, whether you know it or not! -- and the urge to suppress those with "wrong" opinions is becoming too strong to ignore. The tacit approval of Barack Obama and other powerful Democrat politicians removes any vestige of unease. It explains the near-complete lack of guilt or remorse shown so far by IRS management. In their minds, they are doing nothing wrong.
And there are a lot of jobs directly or indirectly involved in the enforcing of cultural norms within the federal bureaucracy. Paul C. Light from Wall Street Journal :
Research I conducted shows that between 1961 and 2009, the number of executive layers-or ranks by title-at an average cabinet-level agency jumped from seven to 18, even as the number of executives per layer swelled from 451 to 2,600. If Congress and the president want greater accountability from the bureaucracy, they should cut the standard reporting chain in half and reverse the recent proliferation of lower layers occupied by chiefs of staff, deputy chiefs of staff, team leaders and management-support specialists.
Paul also points out the culture of unaccountability that permeates the bureaucracy:
The third culprit is the federal government's antiquated civil-service system, which undermines ethical conduct and high performance at almost every turn by effectively rewarding their opposites. Federal hiring moves at a sub-glacial speed, pay increases and promotions are nearly automatic, performance appraisals are hyper-inflated, bonuses are often distributed in random order, ethics training is negligible, and disciplinary action is almost nonexistent. As if to prove the point, GSA's lead conference planner received a $9,000 performance bonus after the inspector general briefed GSA's administrator on his findings about the Las Vegas event.
ADDENDUM: Somebody go find Secretary of State Kerry; he's off the reservation again: "Kerry said that an international conference - which he and his Russian counterpart proposed in Moscow nearly a month ago - remained the best approach for ending the fighting, but his remarks carried the implication that the Obama administration had moved too slowly in its first term to seek a negotiated political solution to a conflict that erupted more than two years ago and turned into a war."

Rumors and conspiracy theories not hard to believe with Obama Regime in charge
Jun 04, 2013 06:13 am | Coach Collins
by Suzanne Eovaldi, staff writer
Emails detailing rumors of C130's and C17's flying plane loads of UN troops over northern Florida made their way across several internet sites last week, and at least 30 forwarded to media sources all over the country produced no replies, let alone confirmations or denials. "We have had unconfirmed reports of foreign troops landing in U.S. If you have any information, please use the "Contact Us" form," said the text of the Emails. (1)
Reports of a phone call from a Jacksonville, FL man living "right on the flight path of a Naval Air Station," reveal he allegedly saw planes, silver in color with no tail markings, flying overhead. Resembling unmarked military transport planes, they were streaming in a constant flow of aircraft. "In all of the years living under the flight plan," the tipster said he'd never seen anything like it!

In the digital pages of the New York Times, Ezekiel Emanuel, Obamacare whiz kid and brother of Rahm, has a modest proposal to lower suicide rates by ending the sale of Tylenol in bottles. From now on there will be just be small packages of Tylenol blister packs as a kind of seven day waiting period for committing suicide. Emanuel is no great humanitarian looking to save lives by making it slightly harder for Pete, who has been laid off work because his company found it easier to do business in China than spend an extra twenty million a year dealing with the regulations endorsed by people like Emanuel, to commit suicide. The truth is he doesn't care about Pete at all. He isn't looking to save Pete's life. He's looking to lower suicide rates. The two might seem like they are one and the same. And it's an easy mistake to make. Politicians make it all the time. If there is any single great error at the heart of Obamacare, it's that conflation of saving individuals and tinkering with statistics.

Congress Hears from Tea Party and Conservative Groups Targeted in IRS Scandal |
|
by Joel B Pollak
The IRS scandal took a new turn Tuesday morning, as members of the House Ways and Means Committee heard testimony from leaders of Tea Party and conservative organizations who were targeted by the agency.
The testimony was opened by Kevin Kookogey, Founder and President of Linchpins of Liberty, who spoke about how the IRS's unfair treatment of his application for non-profit status had suppressed his group's activity. He urged Congress to "act with the moral resolve to check the power of the executive branch."

An Easy Fix To IRS CorruptionJun 04, 2013 12:12 pm
Sir John Dalberg-Acton famously observed that "Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely." No federal agency enjoys more power than the "absolute power" wielded by the Internal Revenue Service. It's little wonder, then, that under this power-drunk Obama regime, the IRS has become "corrupted absolutely." It's become the hammer to this president's favorite [...] Read More and Comment: An Easy Fix To IRS Corruption

Tuesday, June 4, 2013 To: Friends & Supporters From: Gary L. Bauer "I Am A Born-Free American" Today the House Ways and Means Committee heard testimony from Americans victimized by the heavy-handed tactics of Obama's IRS. One of the most moving statements came from Becky Gerritson, president of the Wetumpka Tea Party in Alabama. This excerpt of her remarks should be read by every American who cares about the Obama Administration's assault on our liberties:
"In Wetumpka, we are patriotic Americans; we peacefully assemble; we petition our government; we exercise our right to free speech. We don't understand why the government tried to stop us. "I'm not here as a serf or a vassal. I'm not begging my lord for mercy. I'm a born-free American woman, wife, mother, and citizen, and I'm telling my government that you've forgotten your place. ... "I'm not interested in scoring political points. I want to preserve and protect the America that I grew up in. The America that people crossed oceans and risked their lives to become a part of, and I'm terrified it's slipping away."
That is a powerful statement. I am sure Mrs. Gerritson was speaking rhetorically when she said she did not understand why the government tried to stop the Wetumpka Tea Party. Obama's IRS allies were trying to punish Tea Party conservatives and prevent them from fighting Obama's march toward socialism! The committee also heard from John Eastman, chairman of the National Organization for Marriage (NOM). Eastman claimed that the IRS had leaked confidential information about NOMs donors, which turned up on the website of the Human Rights Campaign, the nation's largest homosexual rights lobbying group. Asked by Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) whether he could prove that charge, Eastman said that NOM had hired forensic specialists who were able to determine that "the original document that was posted [online] had originated from within the IRS" due to "internal IRS stamps." Unbelievably, the IRS is refusing to acknowledge it has even investigated this leak of confidential tax information. According to Mr. Eastman, the IRS is claiming that "the same statute which prohibits the disclosure of a taxpayer's confidential tax return information prevents any disclosure of the culprit of that felony." The Obama IRS scandal is gaining traction and is now breaking into the popular culture. It is never good news for any administration when it becomes the butt of jokes by late-night comedians. Last night Jay Leno got thunderous applause when he said:
"President Obama says he's renewing his efforts to close Guantanamo Bay. Guantanamo Bay? How about closing the IRS? Why don't we do that? ...How about shipping the IRS to Guantanamo Bay?"
Obama's Shadow Government When Barack Obama took office in 2009, he promised his administration would be "the most open and transparent in history." In fact, his administration has proven to be anything but open and transparent. You don't have to take my word for it. Katherine Meyer is a Washington, D.C., lawyer who specializes in Freedom of Information Act law. Here's what she said last year about Obama's transparency pledge:
"Obama is the sixth administration that's been in office since I've been doing Freedom of Information Act work. ...It's kind of shocking to me to say this, but of the six, this administration is the worst on FOIA issues. The worst. There's just no question about it. This administration is raising one barrier after another. ...It's gotten to the point where I'm stunned -- I'm really stunned."
As James Madison wrote in the Federalist Papers, "If men were angels, no government would be necessary." While we trust government to protect our rights, it is also necessary to police the government. And because men are not angels, transparency in government is an essential element to prevent abuse and corruption. With that in mind, there is news today that may become yet another scandal for the already scandal-plagued Obama Administration. We have known that former EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson was using secret email accounts and even had one with the alias "Richard Windsor." According to the Associated Press the practice is relatively widespread throughout the Obama Administration. The Associated Press has tried for months to obtain email addresses for political appointees at various federal agencies. The Labor Department demanded more than $1 million for searching thousands of records. The Interior Department, for example, provided a list of 100 addresses, but not one for former Secretary Ken Salazar. A spokesman would not disclose Salazar's address and suggested the AP file a Freedom of Information Request. But as we know the Obama Administration has made that a very tortuous and time-consuming process. The problem with this gross lack of transparency is obvious. How do you police a shadow government? As the AP notes, there are "laws requiring that most federal records be preserved." That way, when Congress is trying to investigate abuse and corruption -- like the IRS' targeting of the administration's political opponents -- it knows where to look. But if top political appointees and cabinet secretaries are using secret accounts or fake names, it makes investigations virtually impossible. Fort Hood Killer To Confront Wounded Soldiers In 2009, Major Nidal Hasan burst into a medical building at Fort Hood, Texas, and murdered 14 individuals as he yelled, "Allahu Akbar!" For three years, left-wing political correctness has tied the court in knots. Yesterday the judge dispensed with another of Hasan's delaying tactics after ruling he could defend himself. But victims and legal experts predict Hasan will simply abuse this right, using his time in court as a platform for jihadist tirades, just as Zacarias Moussaoui did at his trial. One expert predicted, "He's hoping to inspire other would-be jihadists [who] are in our nation." Under the ruling, Hasan will even be able to cross-examine the very soldiers he tried to murder! Hasan's trial has been one travesty of justice after another. Believe it or not, his trial has been delayed over his beard. And while we are still paying Hasan's salary, the victims have been denied Purple Hearts and needed medical treatments because this administration has classified his attack as "workplace violence." In contrast, two four-man teams of German saboteurs were arrested on U.S. soil in late June 1942. They were tried in a military tribunal in Washington, D.C. Six of them were executed six weeks later. That is how a serious country deals with its enemies.

An American Citizen Stands Up For Freedom
Posted: 04 Jun 2013 03:53 PM PDT
(John Hinderaker)
Today's IRS hearing before the House Ways and Means committee was expected to be explosive, as representatives of six non-profits that were improperly targeted by the agency were slated to testify. You could see that from the spin the establishment put on the hearing. The Washington Post headlined: "Five and counting: Yet another IRS hearing." Can't we just put this scandal behind us?
Scott and Steve have already written about the testimony by Professor John Eastman, Chairman of the National Organization For Marriage, who called for the criminal prosecution of the IRS employee or employees who leaked his organization's donor list to its principal political opponent-a pro-gay marriage group headed by the co-chairman of President Obama's re-election campaign.
But Eastman was not the only dynamite witness. A star was born today: Becky Gerritson of the Wetumpka, Alabama Tea Party. In her prepared statement, Gerritson said:
I am not here as a serf or vassal. I am not begging my lords for mercy. I'm a born free American woman, wife, mother and citizen. And I'm telling my government that you've forgotten your place. It's not your responsibility to look out for my well-being, and to monitor my speech. It's not your right to assert an agenda. Your post, the post that you occupy, exists to preserve American liberty. You've sworn to perform that duty. And you have faltered.

The Power Line 100: Robert P. George
Posted: 04 Jun 2013 03:27 PM PDT
(Steven Hayward)
Obviously Princeton's Robert P. George was going to end up on the Power Line 100, but this seems like the ideal week to do it, since he's in New Jersey and . . . well, there's this U.S. Senate seat suddenly open, and if Gov. Chris Christie really wants to send an interesting message that he isn't about politics as usual, he'd think about sending Robbie to Washington for a few months as New Jersey's interim senator, rather than some legacy appointment like Tom Kean Jr. (Look, Cory Booker-a good man-is going to win the special election anyway, so come on big guy, have some fun with this appointment.)
But back to Robbie. He is the McCormick professor in jurisprudence at Princeton-the chair originally created for Woodrow Wilson, and filled later by the great Edward Corwin-a rather remarkable pedigree. He also founded and directs the James Madison Program in American Ideals and Institutions, which actually stands up for American ideals at Princeton. He was a member of President Bush's Council on Bioethics. The New York Times called him "The Conservative-Christian Big Thinker." The Nation magazine predictably blew a gasket about Robbie's presence at Princeton: their headline is hilarious: "Princeton Tilts Right." Let's see if I have this right: a big, Ivy League university has one prominent conservative, and that's enough for The Nation to declare that the university tilts right? Just one? No wonder campus liberals work so hard to maintain an embargo against conservative faculty. Maybe Harvey Mansfield was right to point out that one conservative is worth fifty liberals on campus.
One of the more interesting things Robbie does is team-teach a Great Books course with . . . Cornell West. I asked Robbie recently how this goes down, and he said: "Splendidly!" Because West in a classroom is a different person than West on the hustings (or in a rap music studio), and he takes the Great Books seriously. Conversely, this faculty profile conveys why Robbie is admired by students on all parts of the spectrum:
"Constitutional Interpretation" is legendary at Princeton. The course has been taught for more than a century, ever since Woodrow Wilson stood at the lectern in 1879. George's course stimulates students to explore their deepest beliefs and assumptions about what it means to be an American.
"The course is designed in such a way that students, whether they are coming from left, right or center on these very controversial issues of constitutional interpretation, are challenged," says George. "I make it a point to elicit from students the very best arguments for the competing perspectives, whether we're talking about the death penalty or abortion or presidential war powers."
The point of the course, George says, is not to present his own views. Instead, he says, "I want to make sure all my students understand why it is that reasonable, well-informed people of good will can be found on both or all sides of the question."
That's how college professors ought to conduct themselves. Anyway, there are lots of lectures and speeches from Robbie on YouTube, but here's an especially good seven-minute excerpt of some remarks on the nature of religious freedom given at Georgetown. And needless to say: Robbie George for Senate!

Tawana Brawley, Al Sharpton and Nelson Rockefeller, 25 Years Later
Posted: 04 Jun 2013 10:25 AM PDT
(John Hinderaker)
The Tawana Brawley case dominated the news for a time in 1987. Brawley was a black teenager who claimed to have been raped and abused by six white men. Her handlers, led by the "Reverend" Al Sharpton, falsely accused a policeman (who couldn't defend himself because he had committed suicide, presumably the reason they chose him) and an Assistant District Attorney of being involved in the attack. Brawley's accusations turned out to be lies, but Sharpton somehow survived the debacle and became an elder statesman in the Democratic Party.
The New York Times produced this video, which revisits the Brawley case 25 years on. It is extraordinarily good. They somehow got Sharpton to sit for an interview-I suppose he thought he was among friends-and near the end, the video even acknowledges the relationship between Sharpton and Barack Obama. I really do urge you to watch the video in its entirety; it is an excellent and unsparing review of the Brawley case:
Watching the video, I was impressed by how honestly and professionally the New York authorities-investigators, policemen, prosecutors, even the Attorney General-handled the case, notwithstanding the storm of publicity that surrounded it. One wonders whether the same would be true today. Would innocent men be cleared, or would racial politics trump everything else? One thinks, for example, of the Duke lacrosse case. Or, perhaps, Sharpton and his colleagues made a mistake that they didn't repeat in later race-baiting episodes: they accused a policeman and a prosecutor, by name. The older Al Sharpton, whom you see in the video, is more adept at double-talk and would know better how to keep his options open.
The respected biographer Richard Norton Smith has been working for some years on a definitive biography of Nelson Rockefeller. Several years ago, I heard a lecture that Smith gave at Dartmouth in which he talked about his work in progress. One anecdote in particular struck me. I am going from memory, so the details might be a bit blurred, but the gist is accurate.
The incident took place when Rockefeller was Governor of New York, or possibly when he was between political jobs. He had an office in Manhattan where he usually worked. One day, he arrived at his office and there was a young African-American man marching back and forth on the sidewalk in front of the building's entrance, carrying a sign. Rockefeller entered the building, went to his office and collared an aide. He directed the aide to find out who the young man on the sidewalk was, and what he wanted.
The aide returned a few minutes later and reported to Rockefeller that the young man's name was Al Sharpton. And what does he want, Rockefeller asked. He wants $20,000, the aide replied. Rockefeller wrote out a check for $20,000 and gave it to the aide, instructing him to tell Sharpton to go away.
Sharpton was never anything but an extortionist, but a very successful one. By rights he should be in jail. How he came to be treated respectfully as a Democratic candidate for the presidency and a televised commentator on the news is a story that has never fully been told.

Fitzpatrick: IRS Spending Unacceptable, Offensive
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick (PA-8) issued the following statement
Tuesday in response to new watchdog reports that show the Internal Revenue Service spent
over $50 million on more than 200 employee conferences between 2010 and 2012:
"The latest report on the IRS does nothing to restore the confidence of the American people in
the agency.
While the agency is responsible for collecting tax-payer's hard earned money, this report
shows that the IRS spent millions of dollars on lavish conferences for employees and
executives- many, well beyond the need of the organization.
In the wake of revelations that the agency had been targeting conservative groups simply
based on their beliefs and political leanings, the IRS has become a disappointing example of
the intrusiveness, and waste, of the federal government.
While the Treasury Department says it has taken "aggressive and dramatic action to reduce
conference spending," and incoming IRS leadership have promised change, the open-wallet
spending of government agencies is an affront to hard-working families around the nation who
are being forced to make do with less during this economic recession.
I have written a letter to new IRS CommissionerDaniel Werfel encouraging him to immediately
make changes to the way the agency operates and make every assurance possible to the
American people that the country's tax collectors can be good stewards of the public's money.
I eagerly look forward to his response. "

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick (PA-8) issued the following statement

"I was disappointed to hear today that HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius says she will be unable
to help 10-year old Sarah Murnaghan who is awaiting a life-or-death lung transplant at
Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.
In a letter last week, I called upon Secretary Sebelius to do everything in her power to help save
Sarah- sadly, I had not heard back.
While Secretary Sebelius says that the decision about Sarah's situation should be left to medical
experts, it would take a change in the law from her end to allow Sarah access an adult lung-
something doctors have recommended- based on condition, not age.
I stand with Sarah's family, the millions of people nationwide who have become involved in her
fight, and colleagues in Congress to doing everything we can to offer some hope in a difficult time.
I could not be more frustrated by the Secretary's statements today. We must do more for all the
people suffering from Cystic Fibrosis, as well as reevaluate our laws governing organ transplants.
This cannot be the final word on the matter. In the meantime I urge Sarah and her family to keep
the faith."

Fitzpatrick: No Bonuses for Government Execs
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick (PA-8) issued a statement Tuesday
following the introduction of HR 2222:
"As Congress begins its annual appropriations process amid the constraints of tighter budgets
and reduced spending, I've introduced legislation that would ensure that certain government
employees aren't collecting bonuses at a time of fiscal restraint in Washington and around the
nation.
Even with the restrictions of the sequester, Senior Executive Service (SES) officials within the
Executive Branch are slated to collect millions of dollars in bonuses. While the Administration
has frozen most bonuses for federal government workers, "current law mandates that agencies
pay bonuses to SES employees." Between 2008 and 2011 SES employees collected $340 million
in bonuses.
SES employees are executives within the various federal agencies, and make up less than 1% of
the federal workforce. However, between 2008 and 2011, they received more than 4% of the
federal bonus dollars. Additionally, federal spending on bonuses has outpaced growth of the
SES, with spending on SES bonuses increasing 7% between 2008 and 2010.
The bill "To prohibit performance awards in the Senior Executive Service during sequestration
periods" would simply freeze SES bonuses during the sequester like the government has frozen
pay and bonuses for thousands of other federal employees.
Taxpayers shouldn't be footing the bill to give bonuses to certain federal employees when
agencies and other employees are forced to make tough choices to prioritize spending."
Introduced along with Congressman Mark Meadows (R-NC), HR 2222 is the House companion to
S. 986, which was authored by Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO), Tom Coburn (R-OK) and Ron
Johnson (R-WI).

New Hudson Study: America's Patriotic Assimilation System is Broken
Press Release
April 8, 2013
Hudson Institute
Quantitative analysis of Harris Interactive Survey reveals that
the patriotic assimilation of immigrants to American identity is
weak and ambivalent.
WASHINGTON - As Congress debates immigration reform legislation many argue that "our immigration system is broken and needs to be fixed." In a new quantitative analysis
of Harris Interactive survey data, Hudson Senior Fellow John Fonteand consultant Althea Nagai suggest that our patriotic assimilation system is also broken and needs to be fixed.
The authors have found that a large "patriotic gap" exists between native-born citizens and immigrant citizenson issues of patriotic attachment and civic knowledge. Despite what some may believe, native-born citizens have a much higher degree of patriotic attachment to the United States than naturalized citizens.
Below are some additional findings:
- By 21 percentage points (65% to 44%), native-born citizens are more likely than naturalized immigrants to view America as "better" than other countries as opposed, to "no better, no worse."
- By about 30 points (85% to 54%), the native-born are more likely to consider themselves American citizens rather than "citizens of the world."
- By 30 points (67% to 37%), the native-born are more likely to believe that the U.S. Constitution is a higher legal authority for Americans than international law.
- By roughly 31 points (81% to 50%), the native-born are more likely than immigrant citizens to believe that schools should focus on American citizenship rather than ethnic pride.
- By 23 percentage points (82% to 59%), the native-born are more likely to believe that it is very important for the future of the American political system that all citizens understand English.
- By roughly 15 points (77% to 62%), the native-born are more likely to believe that that there is a unique American culture that defines what it means to be an American.
- By 15 points (82% to 67%), the native-born are more likely than immigrant citizens to support an emphasis in schools on learning about the nation's founding documents.

Plouffe, White House Aides Target Issa
Monday, June 3, 2013 02:46 PM
By: Bill Hoffmann
House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa appeared to be getting under the skin of Democrats as they hit back hard -- bringing up the congressman's past from more than four decades ago.
Issa's allegations about what the White House knew about the IRS targeting conservatives rattled Democrats into sending out a barrage of counter-claims.
Former senior Obama aide David Plouffe ripped Issa in a Twitter message, referring to allegations from as far back as 1972, when Issa was still a teenager.
"Strong words from Mr Grand Theft Auto and suspected arsonist/insurance swindler. And loose ethically today," Plouffe tweeted.
Plouffe's "grand theft" crack referred to charges of larceny that Issa faced in 1972 after he allegedly stole a Maserati sports car. Issa claims the incident was a case of mistaken identity and the charges were later dropped.
The "arsonist/insurance swindler" insult referred to a 1982 fire at a Cleveland warehouse belonging to Issa's companies Quantum Enterprises and Steal Shopper. The fire was ruled suspicious and Issa collected an insurance payout, but he was not charged with any crime.
Issa called White House press spokesman Jay Carney a "paid liar" over the weekend. He also said low-level IRS employees in the Cincinnati office at the center of the scandal had been directed by Washington.

Remember back in 2011 when President Obama tried to impose a Christmas tree tax? It would have imposed a federal tax on the tree you buy to - no joke - fund marketing to promote the image and sale of Christmas trees. After Heritage Foundation expert David Addington exposed this ridiculous effort, President Obama issued a stay of the tax.
Well, it turns out the Christmas tree tax is back - and it's in this year's farm bill.
The House Agriculture Committee approved an amendment to its farm bill that would impose Obama's Christmas tree tax. This tax, pushed by the Christmas tree industry itself, would punish those in the industry who do not comply with industry standards. Essentially, they are asking the government to do their dirty work. And the government, after facing a serious backlash the first time around, has found a sneaky new way to slip this tax into law via the farm bill.
But not everyone in the industry agrees with the tax, Heritage's Daren Bakst explains:
|
After significant backlash, in large part due to the efforts of The Heritage Foundation, the Obama Administration backed away from imposing this tax . . . There are many Christmas tree producers and importers that don't want this new tax. Based on the comments received by the Department of Agriculture regarding the program, about 26 percent of the commenters opposed it. If producers and importers oppose the tax, they will still have no choice but to pay it.
|
| |
Furthermore, it's a tax on consumers. As if Christmas weren't expensive enough! Bakst continues, "The new costs will be passed down to those who buy Christmas trees."
Do you think it's right to put taxes on Christmas trees?
Heritage Foundation scholar Ryan Anderson delivered the best conservative commencement address of 2012, according to a ranking by The Blaze.
Anderson, an expert in marriage policy and Heritage's William E. Simon Fellow in Religion and a Free Society, gave words of advice to Regent University's class of 2013. According to the Blaze's ranking, Anderson beat Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI).
Very valuable. One participant in The Heritage Foundation's George C. Marshall Fellows Program sent the following praise to Heritage vice president James Carafano:
|
As a George C. Marshall Fellow, I've been invited to conversations that don't happen nearly often enough - those that discuss the long term strategic goals of the United States (U.S.). Importantly, the program brings together other young professionals to debate and discuss national security and foreign policy issues outside of what is happening this week in Washington. I feel that these discussions have not only been productive internally in shaping a group of young leader's opinions, but our ideas are also projected outward as we spread our conclusions to networks outside the Marshall Program and The Heritage Foundation. Frankly, we need more consistent, planned, and serious discussion about where we want our country to land in this century. I very much appreciate that Heritage's program brought me to the table to weigh in on these issues, and I hope the program will continue for young leaders in the future.
|
| |
Initiated last spring, the six month long Marshall Fellows Program educates a select group of future foreign policy leaders about conservative ideas. In addition to learning the particulars of foreign policy, fellows interact with Heritage foreign policy experts and engage in projects that will shape them into effective leaders who can incorporate America's traditions, values, and worldwide responsibilities into a grand strategy.
Do you think programs like this are valuable?

Obama's Meeting with China's Communist Party General Secretary By Dean Cheng and Derek Scissors, Ph.D.
 | | President Obama and the general secretary of the Chinese Communist Party, Xi Jinping, will meet June 7-8 in California. The meeting has been characterized as a way for the two to establish a personal relationship and build trust. This would all be well if it were President Obama's first year in office and Sino-American ties were on a sound footing. But it is not and they are not.
It is long past time for the U.S. to have a meaningful, tightly focused China policy. This meeting does not appear to support that goal but rather is another in a series of ostensibly important but aimless steps on an increasingly rocky path. The Administration should have specific goals for the summit and the Strategic and Economic Dialogue (S&ED) one month later: - A timetable for a major reform to increase competition in the Chinese market, preferably in finance;
- A detailed pledge of improvement in one area of the multi-dimensional problem of Chinese cyber-aggression; and
- An actual reduction in at least one area of tension-for example, the Senkakus dispute with Japan or the disputed territories such as Scarborough Shoal or Second Thomas Shoal near the Philippines.

Nine North Korean refugees who had escaped from their homeland and made their way to Laos were forcibly repatriated on May 28. Laos's acquiescence in this case awkwardly underscores the dictatorial nature of the regime at a time when the Obama Administration is actively courting it.

When it comes to trade, the ultimate objective for conservatives should be to eliminate tariffs-not just reduce some or all, but take them completely off the table and make it as difficult as possible to impose or threaten to impose tariffs (or quotas).

It Takes a Congress to Pass a Law
|
In Washington, the main occupation involves creating the laws, rules and regulations that govern life for the rest of us. Business here, of course, is booming even as most of the country remains mired in the economic doldrums. And there's one especially troubling aspect to the growth of the administrative state: Since the majority of regulations are coming from unelected bureaucrats, they are inherently unconstitutional.

Who Cares, Matters
|
Americans might have been expected to focus the 2012 election on the sorry state of the economy. But they didn't. While American voters thought Romney was a better leader, better executive, and could be better trusted to handle an international crisis than Barack Obama, they didn't think he understood them. By being perceived as a rich, out-of-touch businessman, Romney lost the empathy vote by sixty-three points, James Ceaser, Andrew Busch, and John Pitney explain in their new book "After Hope and Change," reviewed by Julia Shaw.

Follow the Farm Bill Money
|
Who benefits from farm subsidies? Well, for the most part it's not small, citizen farmers. Some 80 percent of spending in the farm bill actually goes to food stamps. And a good chunk of what's left is actually pocketed by the well-to-do, including former President Jimmy Carter, the current Secretary of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), and the families of members currently serving on the House and Senate Agriculture Committees.

Quote of the Week
"There cannot be a more dangerous doctrine in a state, than to admit that the legislative power has a right to alter the constitution . . . . For as the constitution limits the authority of the legislature, if the legislature can alter the constitution, they can give themselves what bounds they please."
- Demophilus

The "Farm" Bill is Really a Food Stamp Bill
The trillion-dollar farm and food stamp bill should not be called the "Farm Bill." Washington doesn't want Americans to know that 80 percent of the spending in the bill goes to fund Obama's big-government, food stamp agenda.
>> Get the facts: the "farm" bill is no farm bill at all.
The 20 percent of the bill that goes toward farm programs is equally disturbing. The appalling truth is that many people are paid to grow nothing. The main recipients of the subsidies in the bill are the rich and famous, including families of current members of Congress and the USDA secretary Tom Vilsack. Big farmers with record high incomes, record low debt, and vastly improved farm technology are getting your taxpayer money.
>> Don't be fooled: Washington insiders want to maintain the unholy alliance between farm and food stamp policy.
For far too long Washington politicians have kept food stamps in the farm bill to help the bill get passed. This means less accountability, less transparency, and less of a chance for real reform to either farm or food stamp programs.
Thank you for joining us to defeat this trillion dollar bill.
Sincerely,
Michael A. Needham Chief Executive Officer Heritage Action for America

Tell Sen. Toomey that Pennsylvania voters want all enforcement proven before even CONSIDERING giving work permits to illegal aliens
|
|
|
|
WONDERFUL NEWS: Ohio voters have had great success in helping educate Sen. Portman (R-OH) who had been talking like Sen. Toomey in thinking about supporting the S. 744 amnesty. He now says he can't vote for it as long as the enforcement is only a bunch of promises AFTER the amnesty gives everybody work permits.
DEAR PENNSYVANIA FRIENDS,
Our thanks to all of you who kept the phones ringing in Sen. Toomey's offices since last Friday.
The education must continue today.
A scientific poll of the state's voters finds almost no support for the Gang of Eight's over-sized amnesty bill in the way it rewards 11 million illegal aliens before any new enforcement to stop future illegal immigration. (See more details on the poll below.)
- Only 27% of likely voters in Pennsylvania agree with the work-permits-first and enforcement-later approach of S. 744.
- 13% of voters were unsure of their opinion on this issue.
- 60% said they want "full enforcement" at the workplace and the border before even "considering" giving work permits to illegal aliens.
Phone Sen. Toomey
|
Please call Sen. Toomey on the day that you read this and let him know that you agree with most voters of his state who oppose S. 744's format.
888-995-1993
The toll-free number takes you directly to Sen. Toomey's staff. Just tell the staffer who answers (a) your name, (b) where you live and (c) that you want the Senator to follow the wishes of most citizens of Pennsylvania to oppose a bill that doesn't require all enforcement first. (d) You can then just thank the staffer politely and hang up. It's that simple.
But if you feel up to it, tell the staff some other fact from this email that is important to you and why.
|
The Senate Judiciary Committee voted down several amendments that would have put some enforcement first.
There now is no question that the only thing that has to happen before 11 million illegal aliens get their work permits and legalization is that the administration must merely write a plan for border security and then say it has started.
There are no requirements that border security actually occur or that the entry/exit system be in place or that all or any employers are using E-Verify. The amnesty -- work permits and legalization -- happen before any of that is required.
It is important that Sen. Toomey hear from you because all news reports are that he is considering voting YES on the weak-enforcement amnesty bill. The vo te is expected to be close, and Sen. Toomey's vote may be the deciding one.
The good news is that he hasn't decided yet.
POLL RESULTS FOR PENNSYLVANIA
Pulse Opinion Research conducted its scientific poll of Pennsyvania likely voters with results having the standard margin of sampling error of 3 percentage points, with a 95% level of confidence.
Here is how it asked the question:
QUESTION: "SOME in Congress propose giving work permits to illegal immigrants first and then implementing border and workplace enforcement to stop future flows of illegal workers over the next 10 years. OTHERS in Congress say the enforcement at the borders and workplace must be implemented first and then the work permits can be considered. WHICH do you prefer for dealing with illegal im migrants?"
The wording in some ways was biased toward the bill because it suggested that the enforcement would actually happen over 10 years, when in fact the bill is written with so many waivers and exceptions that it is doubtful how much of the enforcement really would occur.
Nonetheless, hardly any group of Pennsylvania voters showed any real sign of support for the way S. 744 is structured.
For each group of voters listed here:
The first percentage is for those who answered, "Work permits first, followed by 10 years of implementing enforcement" which is what S. 744 does.
The second percentage is for those who answered, "Full enforcement first, before considering work permits." (The remainder answered "Not sure.")
39% - 48%....Age 18-39
22% - 65%....Age 40-64
24% - 61%....Age 65+
15% - 77%....Republican
42% - 39%....Democrat
17% - 72%....Independent
31% - 60%....Evangelical
26% - 61%....Protestant
18% - 68%....Catholic
36% - 48%....Other & No Religion
29% - 63%....Men
25% - 57%....Women
Here is another question that shows where Pennsylvania voters are on enforcement issues.
QUESTION: "On the issue of fighting illegal immigration, is the government doing too much, not enough or about the right amount?"
07%....Too much
68%....Not enough
17%....About the right amount
08%....Not sure
Your phone call is the way you can ensure that Sen. Toomey and his staff understand the breadth of opposition to S. 744.
THANKS,
|
