Do not miss my piece on Europe at Breitbart here:
"Europe's Meltdown: A Cautionary Tale" Pamela Geller, Breitbart, June 1, 2013
by Pamela Geller 1 Jun 2013 Muslims rioted in Sweden for a week, burning cars and attacking police. This is just the latest in an unremitting Islamic campaign, a continent-wide jihad initiative leaving death and destruction in its wake. It is a glimpse into the present and future of Europe, due to its disastrous and suicidal immigration policies, and a cautionary tale for America.
And it isn't just in Sweden. It's in France as well, where there have been periodic Muslim riots, featuring the same car-burnings, screams of "Allahu akbar," and attacks on police. All over the continent, we see the effects of Muslim immigration in Europe. When a Muslim tried to assassinate free-speech activist Lars Hedegaard in Denmark, the New York Times smeared Hedegaard and praised Muslims. Last year, Belgium was shaken by a Ramadan crime wave, with threats of jihad grenade attacks on public buildings. A devout Muslim called for the murder of members of a pro-freedom political party in Germany. Other Muslim thugs "patrolled" the streets of London, harassing those they believed do not conform to Islamic law. There are even Sharia zones enforced in the U.K. Gay man are targeted by Muslims who threaten them to "get out of here, you bloody fag." In Italy recently, a jihadist was arrested in Rome and there were police raids in Milan, Palermo, Cagliari, Cuneo, and Salerno. But Muslims nonetheless are violently rioting and attacking non-Muslims in that country. In Spain, a jihadi plotted to poison the tourist water supply. A jihadi trio was arrested "in possession of explosives and poison." And because of this mass Muslim immigration, the Islamic antisemitism has increasingly rendered Europe hostile to Jews. Norway's Jewish population is almost nonexistent, French Jews are fleeing in droves, and a Jewish school in Belgium has been forced to shut down. In Sweden, Muslims shot rockets and hurled pipe bombs at Jews and attacked Jews at a peaceful pro-Israel rally. In Germany, Muslims rioted, chanting "Jews out, Germans out, allahu akbar, f**k off Jews, kick the Jews out, burn the Jew." A Hezbollah courier was found guilty of playing a role in a Cyprus jihad terror plot. Hezbollah was also behind the bombing of a bus full of Jewish tourists in Bulgaria. In Italy, a Muslim was jailed for a Milan synagogue bomb plot. There are now sweeping "no-go areas" for Jews in Europe. Think it can't happen here? At a Los Angeles rally, Muslims chanted "Long live Hitler" and "Put Jews in ovens." The mainstream media, true to form, seldom identifies the perpetrators. Instead, in a characteristic move they blamed the Swedish riots on the right and attribute it all to poverty, saying: "Some seven years of centre-right rule, however, have chipped away at benefits."

 | Lois Lerner: Accessory To Terror Funding |
There is now conclusive evidence that exposes Lois Lerner - the IRS senior manager and Director of Exempt Organizations who exercised her fifth amendment rights in front of the House Oversight Committee - as an accessory to terror funding. Charges against Lerner could amount to criminal negligence for not checking into the bonafides of the Barack H. Obama Foundation (BHOF) before granting such expeditious, retroactive, and possibly illegal tax-exempt status.
The video also exposes President Obama's half-brother - Malik H. Obama - as a senior leader in terror organizations that supply funding and comfort to Al Qaeda. Malik Obama is also a close associate of Omar al-Bashir, the president of Sudan who is wanted by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for crimes against humanity. After watching the short video below, you may wish to review this comprehensive article which also includes a link to a comprehensive 22-page report that provides substantial evidence to support these alarming allegations.
The document includes photographs from Malik's own web site.

Please stop using Gmail. Gmail is part of Zgoogle and Google sits on the right hand of President Obama. They track everything that you do. James Rosen of Fox News used Gmail.

Google Needs Extra Time to Spy on Your Kids
It seems that Google is constantly falling afoul of conservatives, consumers, pundits, regulators and really everyone else on earth (except for the Obama campaign) for its privacy-infringing tendencies.
It got hammered for "alleged" spying in the Safarigate scandal, where it wound up agreeing to a record-breaking $22.5 million fine in connection with charges it surreptitiously tracked Apple Safari users who Google had said could opt out of tracking, and did what Google said was necessary to opt out. This spying of course enabled Google to grab data it shouldn't have had, to improve its highly profitable targeted ad business, and do it in a way that amounted to a violation of its contract with users. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →

FROM THE DIRECTOR OF GODS AND GENERALS AND GETTYSBURG COMES THE LIBERTY MOVIE OF THE YEAR
RON MAXWELL'S COPPERHEAD
For anyone who reveres and believes in the preservation of the Constitution of the United States, Copperhead is a must see this summer!
Copperhead is unlike any Civil War movie to date. It is a film of the war at home - of a family ripped apart by war, of a community driven to an appalling act of vengeance against a man who insists on exercising his right to free speech during wartime. A story of the violent passions and burning feuds that set ablaze the homefront during the Civil War, Copperhead the movie is also a timeless and deeply moving examination of the price of dissent, the place of the individual amidst the hysteria of wartime, and the terrible price of war - a cost measured not in dollars but in fractured families, broken loves, and men dead before their time.
Based on the extraordinary novel by Harold Frederic, who witnessed these conflicts firsthand as a small child, Copperhead tells the story of Abner Beech, a stubborn and righteous farmer of Upstate New York, who defies his neighbors and his government in the bloody and contentious autumn of 1862.

In 2006, Congresswoman Michele Bachmann became the first Republican woman to be elected to represent Minnesota in the U.S. House of Representatives. As a self-proclaimed "Constitutional Conservative" she is committed to fixing Washington's broken ways by advocating for America's adherence to the Constitution. As a believer in the traditional values upon which this country was founded, Bachmann consistently defends America's religious liberties and the importance of family as the first unit of government. As the federal government continues to grow under the current administration, Bachmann was honored to establish the Tea Party Caucus in July 2010. She is proud to stand with the Tea Party to call for lower taxes, renewed focus on the Constitution and smaller government.

Announcing the 2013 National Conference
& Legislative Briefing!
June 19 - 21 we will convene at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, DC for our fourth annual National Conference & Legislative Briefing.
And here's some really great news: This year's registration fee is only $229! Register by April 15th and you'll receive our "Early Bird" rate of just $189!
|
We also offer again this year special benefits for Patriot Eagle and Patriot sponsors. We have some exciting new wrinkles planned for this year's event, and our list of confirmed speakers already includes:
- Steven Emerson - Journalist, author, and the Executive Editor of the Investigative Project on Terrorism. A. M. Rosenthal, late-managing editor of The New York Times, described Emerson as "one of the nation's best national security correspondents."
- John Guandolo - Former FBI agent and one of America's leading authorities on the Muslim Brotherhood and its inner workings in America. Guandolo spoke at our conference in 2011 and received rave reviews from conference attendees!
- Ezra Levant - Canadian lawyer, author, newspaper columnist with Sun Media, and former publisher of the Western Standard. Hauled before a Canadian "human rights commission" because he published the Danish cartoons that satirized Muhammad, Levant's personal account of a politically correct government inquisition is something you won't want to miss!

The National Conference & Legislative Briefing will begin on Wed. evening, June 19th, and conclude on Friday, June 21st at noon, with additional optional training sessions Friday afternoon.
It will again feature our very popular Capitol Hill Awards Luncheon and our signature gala banquet-and of course, our Legislative Briefing, where Members of Congress will brief you on various issues and answer your questions.

2013 RedState Gathering -- Early Bird Special Dear RedStater,
We announced earlier this week that we'll be headed to New Orleans the first weekend in August for this year's RedState Gathering. As a member of our RedState family, we'd like to extend exclusive Early Bird registration and pricing to you (just use the promo code EARLYBIRD on the registration page).
The 2013 RedState Gathering will be held August 2-3 at the Westin Canal Place in New Orleans, LA. We'll have two full days of speakers and activities and you can expect a good mix of elected officials and potential candidates for the 2014 cycle (we'll keep you informed as additions are made).
The Gathering has always been a unique event, in that all speakers, even the most in-demand and influential, pay their own way and make their own travel arrangements. This helps keep our costs low, a savings we are happy to pass along to our conference attendees. Additionally, we strive to get you up close to the speakers, ask them to take your questions, and we take care of nearly all your meals during the conference. Bottom line: fewer frills, more thrills and access.
We are thrilled to once again be joined by Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, who will be hosting a reception for all attendees and appear at the Gathering podium as a keynote speaker. A huge hit in 2012, we're looking forward to Gov. Jindal playing an even larger role this year as he welcomes us to his home state.
Now, more than ever, true conservative activists must come together to exchange ideas and strategize for the future. That's what this year's Gathering is all about. We hope you'll join us.
Click here to learn more and register.
Sincerely,
 Erick Erickson Editor-in-Chief, RedState
P.S. Don't delay! You'll receive 20% off if you register today - just use the promo code EARLYBIRD. Click here.

From a trusted friend:
As some of you may know, I am associated with Coventry Christian Schools as a parent of a graduate (2010) and as member of the Board of Trustees. Last October we spent a wonderful evening honoring Mark Niehls at our revitalized Founder's Dinner and celebrated our shared heritage in the remarkable community that is Coventry Christian Schools. Our vision for future Founder's Dinners is to inspire and inform not only our alumni and current CCS families but to inspire and inform the Tri-County Area and even our region by hosting speakers and artists who can uniquely assist us in celebrating the heritage, core values, and mission of CCS while also lifting our vision for an even greater future built upon the foundation of our past. The caliber of our speakers and guest artists should provide us with wonderful opportunities to share our CCS story with new partners in Christian education. Proceeds from the dinner will be applied to our annual Coventry Kids Fund for CCS scholarships.
This year we are proud to announce that our distinguished guest and speaker is Dr. Benjamin Carson, and our dinner's theme is "Faith of Our Fathers: The Role of Faith in American Schools." Please join us as we welcome Dr. Carson to the Tri-County Area and celebrate the great things God is doing at CCS!
Dr. Carson is a highly regarded neurosurgeon and motivational speaker who has addressed various audiences across the country. He is one of the most honored and recognized physicians in the world and holds more than 60 honorary doctorate degrees along with hundreds of awards and citations. He is a recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honor in the United States. He is the author of five books and is the founder of the Carson Scholars Fund. The 2009 award-winning movie entitled Gifted Hands: The Ben Carson Story, starring Cuba Gooding, Jr. as Carson, premiered on TNT and is based on his memoir. Dr. Carson is an authentic disciple of Christ, has been married to his wife Candy for more than 37 years, and is the father of three sons.
The 2013 Founder's Dinner, which will once again be a part of our Homecoming festivities, will be held at the historic Sunnybrook Ballroom in Pottstown on Sunday, October 13th, 2013. Doors will open at 4:30pm, followed by dinner at 5:15. Dress will be business/professional. Tickets will be priced at $100 until May 15th, then will be $125, so reserve your tickets for the reduced price.
Due to Dr. Carson's international reputation and recent prominence in the media, including his recent speech at the 2013 National Prayer Breakfast, we fully anticipate that this event will sell out quickly once advertised to the public. Tickets go on sale to the public April 15. If you are interested in attending, tickets can be purchased online. I will send the link out to those who wish to go on April 15
th
. While online reservations are preferred because they facilitate efficient event planning, you may also complete a paper order form, which I can forward to you as well.
All of us at Coventry Christian Schools, look forward to sharing this very special evening with you and acquainting you with the school and its mission!
Blessings,
Christine Gordon

MAY 29, 2013 * BY JAMIE GASS AND JIM STERGIOS
When President Obama unveiled his Race to the Top initiative in 2009, the idea was to award $4.35 billion in federal grant money to states to replicate policies that boosted student achievement. That quickly changed and the federal money was instead used to persuade states to adopt administration-backed nationalized K-12 English and math standards and tests. By last year, most states had adopted the standards, known as Common Core, and it seemed a foregone conclusion that the United States would join countries like France in having a uniform curriculum.
But what a difference a year makes. Today, a full-blown epidemic of buyer's remorse has taken hold. Popular resistance is rampant and bills to pull out of Common Core are making their way through multiple state legislatures.
Had the Obama administration been interested in policies with a proven record of improving students' academic performance, it would have looked to Massachusetts. In the early 1990s, Massachusetts was an above average but unremarkable performer on the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) and SATs. After enactment of the Bay State's landmark 1993 education reform law, SAT scores rose for 13 consecutive years. In 2005, Massachusetts students became the first state ever to score best in the nation in all four categories on the NAEP's fourth and eighth grade reading and math assessments. The next three times the tests were administered-in 2007, 2009, and 2010-this feat was repeated.

'Common Core' Nationalizes and Dumbs Down Public School Curriculum
by Ron Paul: In addition to shredding civil liberties, launching a utopian global war for democracy, and going on a spending spree that would make LBJ blush, the so-called "conservative" Bush administration dramatically increased federal control over education via the "No Child Left Behind" act. During my time in Congress I heard nothing but complaints about this law from teachers, administrators, and, most importantly, students and parents. Most of the complaints concerned No Child Left Behind's testing requirements, which encouraged educators to "teach to the test." Sadly, but not surprisingly, instead of improving education by repealing No Child Left Behind's testing and other mandates, the Obama administration is increasing national control over schools via the "Common Core" initiative. Common Core is a new curriculum developed by a panel of so-called education experts. The administration is trying to turn Common Core into a national curriculum by offering states increased federal education funding if they impose Common Core's curriculum on their public schools. This is yet another example of the government using money stolen from the people to bribe states into obeying federal dictates. Critics of Common Core say it "dumbs down" education by replacing traditional English literature with "informational texts". So students will read such inspiring materials as studies by the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, the EPA's "Recommended Levels of Insulation," and "Invasive Plant Inventory" by California's Invasive Plant Council. It is doubtful that reading federal reports will teach students the habits of critical thinking and skepticism of government that the Founders considered essential to maintaining a free republic. Like Obamacare, Common Core (now dubbed "ObamaCore" by some) has sparked a backlash in the states, leading some to propose legislation forbidding state participation in the scheme. I hope these efforts lead to states not just opting out of Common Core, but out of No Child Left Behind and all other federal education programs as well. Parents can also effectively "opt out" of programs like Common Core by seeking alternatives to government education. It is no coincidence that, as federal control over education increases, the quality of public education has declined and more parents have chosen to homeschool.
Push Against Common Core Gains MomentumAs parents, citizens, and legislators learn more about Common Core, some are deciding it is not the best means of improving American education. Parents in many states are mounting grassroots campaigns against Common Core's standardization of learning and federal testing of students. In April, the Republican National Committee issued a resolution rejecting Common Core, saying it is a "plan [that] creates and fits the country with a nationwide straitjacket on academic freedom and achievement." Critics of Common Core say it is an untried experiment that lacks legitimacy and empirical study and is now being foisted upon the entire U.S. school system. It has the potential to waste billions of dollars, multiple years of education efforts, and the learning potential of all schoolchildren. Several state legislatures are considering withdrawing from Common Core (CC), delaying or not funding implementation, or withdrawing from national testing by government-funded consortia. Four states never adopted CC: Alaska, Nebraska, Texas, and Virginia. Minnesota accepted CC English standards, but rejected CC math. Private organizations developed CC; it was neither debated in public nor enacted by state legislators. Certainly many Common Core promoters believe further centralization of education will improve educational outcomes, but power and cash may also be motivating some supporters. There is an immense amount of money flowing to public education because of Common Core implementation, and also to specific companies that are CC public-private partners that develop curriculum, create tests, and train educators to teach Common Core. I wonder what it is going to take to make our legislators step back and really look at what Common Core is presenting to our children and listen to the TRUE facts. They want to raise our scoring levels up so the "states" are first - not giving any thought as to what they are being taught by using something that is going to dumb them down to the Skinner and Pavlov type of indoctrination. Please share these videos with anyone you know that has children in school - as I stated before - the combination of what they are being presented through the ELA books and the added effort of making them study informational and technical textbooks and as this video reports - the book they are talking about is "Voices" - Example: the book asks the question - "Your mother ___________ you to clean your room and the choices for the answer are "tells" or "nags" implementing a negative attitude with the parent which is part of this goal. These video's have been done by UTAHANS Against Common Core! |

Gun Owners of America
|
Toomey Tells Reporter:
He is Open to Destroying the Second Amendment Again
To review the bidding: You remember the beginning of April, when it appeared that the pro-gun movement would achieve a definitive victory which would send anti-gun crazy Mike Bloomberg into hiding for another decade?
Then, straight to the aid of people like Bloomberg who want to eliminate gun ownership in America, came Pennsylvania Senator Pat Toomey.
The so-called Toomey-Manchin "compromise" was actually drafted by New York Senator Chuck Schumer, and earlier versions still had his name at the top.
The Toomey proposal would create a national gun registry, and give the gun-grabbers and Barack Obama a huge victory from which they could make their next round of gun demands.
The "weasel-words" which purported to prohibit a gun registry were actually full of loopholes. For example, Attorney General Eric Holder is authorized to prosecute himself (and his subordinates) for creating a gun registry. But after Holder's performance on Fast & Furious and the IRS scandal, does anyone trust him to do that?
Since the defeat of Schumer-Toomey-Manchin, Toomey has normally tried to tamp down efforts to get the gun control debate jump-started again.
But now, Toomey has told reporter Jonathan Tamari that he is "open to reviving the background-check bill."
Toomey's statement, of course, will be used to resume a feeding frenzy to destroy the Second Amendment.
Toomey has made it quite clear to the Associated Press and others that he believes his role in trying to destroy the Second Amendment has been a political benefit for him in Pennsylvania.
You need to convince him differently.
ACTION: Contact Senator Toomey. Tell him how you feel about his efforts to further his political career by attacking gun ownership.
You can call Senator Toomey at 202-224-4254If it is not possible for you to call, then e-mail him by using his webform at
http://www.toomey.senate.gov/?p=contact. Select "Gun Rights" as the Topic.
----- Pre-written letter -----
I see that you told an Inquirer reporter that you are "open to reviving the background check bill."
You are reported to think that destroying the Second Amendment is good politics in Pennsylvania.
Arlen Specter thought the same thing. Remember him?
Make no mistake about it: We know that the so-called Toomey-Manchin "compromise" was actually drafted by New York Senator Chuck Schumer, and earlier versions still had his name at the top.
Your proposal would create a national gun registry, and give the gun-grabbers and Barack Obama a huge victory from which they could make their next round of gun demands.
The "weasel-words" which you use to purport to prohibit a gun registry were actually full of loopholes. For example, Attorney General Eric Holder is authorized to prosecute himself (and his subordinates) for creating a gun registry. But after Holder's performance on Fast & Furious and the IRS scandal, does anyone trust him to do that?
Please cease and desist in your efforts to destroy gun ownership for your own political gain.

After refusing to answer questions before Congress on her role in the IRS targeting scandal, Lois Lerner has been put on fully-paid administrative leave. This isn't enough.
Lerner was head of the IRS's tax-exempt branch at the time conservative groups were illegally targeted. And she plead the 5th amendment when called to Congress to explain herself.
Americans demand accountability - not paid vacations for derelictions of duty.

No more brushing dirt under the rug while Americans are left in the dark.
Demand a resignation.

This week's video features FreedomWorks President Matt Kibbe and Executive Vice President Adam Brandon discussing the IRS scandal with Glenn Beck on The BlazeTV. See why both the IRS and Republicans in Congress must be held accountable during the fallout of this political controversy.

Who's Tracking Your Children?
by MICHELLE MALKIN June 3, 2013
The school year may be over for most American students, but parents must remain as vigilant as ever when it comes to protecting their children's privacy. Look no further than the shocking, invasive conduct of the Polk County, Fla., educational district last week. It's a surveillance-state sign of the times.
Two days before their Memorial Day weekend break, kids from at least three different public schools -- Bethune Academy (K-5), Davenport School of the Arts (K-5, middle and high school), and Daniel Jenkins Academy (6-12) -- were subjected to iris scans without their parents' knowledge or consent. The scans are essentially optical fingerprints, which the school intended to collect to create a database of biometric information for school bus security.
One mother took to Facebook to decry the outrageous breach after her son informed her of the unauthorized imaging. She posted a face-saving letter from Polk County Senior Director of Support Services Rob Davis notifying families only after the high-definition eye scans had been conducted.
The mom, April Serrano of Kissimmee, Fla., recounted: "I have been in touch with the principal at my son's school this morning regarding the iris scans. She verified everything my son told me. ... She said that she was following instructions from the Polk County School Board (PCSB), and that she knew very little, if anything, about this before it occurred. She just did as she was told."
The principal "did as she was told," no questions asked, just like a compliant servant of Big Brother is expected to do. Thank goodness for whistle-blowing parents unafraid to speak truth to mind-numbed power.

The Growing Threat of Smart Meters
May 13th, 2013 by Tom DeWeese
Sustainable Development is code for a policy designed to transform human society, essentially eliminating individual life decisions and replacing them with top - down, one-size-fits-all government control. In steady fashion, the agenda for this new policy, designed at the international level, is put into place piece by piece with a new government council here, and new regulation there, each designed to appear as a "local" development program. Like the proverbial frog in the slowly boiling pot, many Americans fail to notice the rise in government heat.
The main course of action to impose the new agenda is through the pretense of environmental protection; "Sorry about your rights, but if we don't save the planet, then we will all perish!" And so with the devastation of a thousand pin pricks, America and its form or government is being changed through the creation of non-elected boards, councils and regional governments, designed to enforce the new regulations and "assure that we protect the environment."
The pin pricks come disguised as such issues as controls on community development; controls on use of private property; controls on use of open space; creation of development areas, many times under the excuse of historic preservation; communities designed on the blue print of pack and stack housing; making it harder to drive as roads are narrowed, even forcing cars to share the road with bicycles; the enforcement of expensive mass transit boondoggle projects; and the never ending spending spree on inefficient, unworkable alternative energy, such as wind and solar power.
In fact, control of energy and water are the two most effective tools in the enforcement of the Sustainable Development agenda. Without energy and water, human society stops. Using strict controls on how, or even if, energy and water can be used provides government with the power to dictate every aspect of society.
So how is that control carried out? There are obviously several ways, including regulations and taxes on production of gasoline; EPA restrictions on energy production; and government subsidies to create and enforce the use of alternative energy, specifically wind and solar.
However, controlling energy use in individual homes provided a more difficult obstacle than mere taxes or regulations. Government needed to be able to monitor energy use and individual habits in every single home. And so, the Smart Meter was born.

Here it is... The Smoking Gun The direct link between Agenda 21 and local planners!
When the fight started against Agenda 21, those of us working to expose it were largely ignored by the main stream media and even the established Conservative movement and its media. Too far out there, they said, to be taken seriously. Then, as more and more Americans began to experience the dire effects of Sustainable Development in their daily lives, suddenly our message began to take hold. Today, thousands of Americans have taken up the fight. And anti-Agenda 21 activists are storming planning meetings, demanding answers. State legislatures and even some county and city governments are passing legislation against it. It seems the Agenda 21 fight is everywhere. So, now, proponents of the Sustainable Development policy are alarmed and working feverishly to counter our claims that such controls over local development and energy policy have their roots in international policy. In particular, our claims that these planning policies come from the UN's Agenda 21, that was introduced to the world at the Earth Summit in Rio in 1992. Their most often used description of Agenda 21 is an "innocuous, 20 year old document that has no enforcement power." Continuously we hear that local planning programs, especially from such groups like the American Planning Association (APA) have no connection to Agenda 21 or the UN. It's all local - or as the APA says in its document, Glossary for the Public, "There is no hidden agenda." In its "Agenda 21: Myths and Facts" document found on the APA website, the group goes to extreme measures to distance itself and its policies from Agenda 21, specifically saying "The American Planning Association has no affiliation regarding any policy goals and recommendations of the UN." Well, then it would be interesting to hear the APA explain this information found in one of its own documents from 1994. The document was an APA newsletter to its members in the Northern California (San Francisco Area). The article was a commentary entitled "How Sustainable is Out Planning, by Robert Odland. It was written just two years after the UN Earth Summit at which Agenda 21 was first introduced to the world. The document can be viewed here. The fifth paragraph of the article says, "Vice President Gore's book, Earth in the Balance addressed many of the general issues of sustainability. Within the past year, the President's Council on Sustainable Development has been organized to develop recommendations for incorporating sustainability into the federal government. Also, various groups have been formed to implement Agenda 21, a comprehensive blueprint for sustainable development that was adopted at the recent UNCED conference in Rio de Janeiro (the "Earth Summit.") In one paragraph, this document brings together the APA, Agenda 21, the UN's Earth Summit, Al Gore, Sustainable Development, the President's Council on Sustainable Development, NGO groups with the mission of implementing Agenda 21 and the description of Agenda 21 as a "comprehensive Blueprint" for Sustainable planning. It sounds like it came verbatim from one of my speeches! A couple of paragraphs higher in the article, it says, "A common misconception is that sustainability is synonymous with self-sufficiency; on the contrary, sustainability must recognize the interconnections between different levels of societal structure." That "societal structure" is "social justice," as described in Agenda 21. A visit to the PlannersNetwork.org, which the APA is a member, will find in its Statement of Principles this quote: "We believe planning should be a tool for allocating resources...and eliminating the great inequalities of wealth and power in our society ... because the free market has proven incapable of doing this." The United Nations blatantly advocates that Capitalism and private property rights are not sustainable and pose the single greatest threat to the world's ecosystem and social equity. And, while sometimes using different words, the APA is helping communities across the nation enforce these ideas, while swearing it is all a local idea, designed from local input. As George Orwell masterfully put it in his epic novel "Animal Farm," it's become difficult to see the difference between the pigs and the farmers - or the APA and the UN. Sustainable Development is not implemented in the open, as the APA claims, but in back rooms filled with the proper NGO organizations, which surround your elected officials and pressures their actions. In that way it is changing our American society and form of government, making government more powerful and more invasive in our daily lives. Sustainability is anti free enterprise, anti private property, and anti individual - and that's why we oppose it.

NEW POLL SHOWS ENGLAND WANTS ITS GUNS BACK The Blaze | "In a poll asking readers what laws they would like to see introduced or changed, an overwhelming number of voters chose "repeal the ban on hand guns and re-open shooting clubs." "After all, why should only criminals be 'allowed' to possess guns and shoot unarmed, defenceless citizens and police officers?" reader Colliemum wrote." Brits want their guns back while they (the Brits) are being held up as an example to us why we need to give up our guns. What irony. I don't think they will regain the right to bear arms, but we might lose our right.
EU exit would put US trade deal at risk, Britain warned Guardian | "With formal negotiations expected to start within weeks, the state department already has hundreds of staff working on the partnership. Sources at US-UK meetings in London last week said American officials made it clear that it would take a monumental effort to get TTIP through a suspicious Congress and that "there would very little appetite" in Washington to do it all again with the UK if Britain walked out of Europe." Let's look at the bigger picture here: ◊ The fact that the UK is contemplating getting out of the EU is great, yet we haven't heard about it in mainstream media. But Obama doesn't want that (or should we say the puppet handlers don't). You know the big bankers and the royal family aren't going to let it happen, but what a nice daydream. ◊ This Trade Partnership that is at stake is just another merging of countries into regions like Nafta; it is only good for the globalists so if the UK were to get out of the EU, the trade partnership would most likely fall apart -- a very good thing for all of Europe. So just hope the Brits show some gumption and do the right thing for a change.

RedState Morning Briefing
For June 4, 2013
1. Operation Over Reach Around
The shameless shills for the Democrats. That would be the media of course. Consider just the latest example.
On Friday, the Democratic National Committee released this memo claiming the Republicans had spent the month of May "overreaching" on the IRS investigation.
By Monday morning, the Washington press corps rallied.
Greg Sargent at the Washington Post declared, "It's very clear that GOP scandal overreach is now prompting a real media backlash." Sargent linked to another Washington Post writer at The Fix who declared, "The IRS is a good political issue for Republicans. But are they in dangers of overreaching on it?"
Glenn Thrush of the Politico tweeted, "Obama always lucky when it comes to his enemies: These House investigations would so much more damaging if Rs showed discipline/restraint."
Ron Fournier of National Journal joined in with a retweet of a Democratic operative who wrote, "House Rs always overplay their hand. they can't help themselves."
Even former RNC Chairman Michael Steele got in on the act using the the word "overreach."
My buddy Sean Davis documented it all in a timeline. But we're not done. I've got the audio. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
2. On Conservative Reformers
There is a lot of back and forth chatter going on right now in the DC-NYC corridor about conservative reform. This is problematic because the people talking about reform are in Washington and New York, the two places least likely to lead any version of conservative reform.
One example of why is Josh Barro. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
3. Anti-Muslim Speech and Consequences
Ordinarily I think having senior civil servants go out into the hinterlands to meet with the Great Unwashed is a good thing. It gets them out of a bubble where process is the product and lets them see how their action and inaction affects the citizens of the country. If anything it may reacquaint them with the notion that they are servants of the people and have a duty to respect the rule of law and disabuse them of any ambitions they may have to acting as some sort of neo-feudal nobility. Any idea that this still applies in the Obama regime disappeared when a man named Bill Killian, decided to speak to the American Muslim Advisory Council of Tennessee on the subject of "Public Disclosure in a Diverse Society." When Mr. Killian is up and dressed he is the United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Tennessee. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
4. Why Ted Cruz is right and John McCain is wrong
Senator John McCain and the mainstream media, are attacking Senator Ted Cruz (and Senators Lee, Paul, and Rubio) for objecting to going to conference on the budget resolution. Cruz's objection is simple: he wants a public promise from the Democrats that they won't use what is called "reconciliation" to raise the debt ceiling. Reconciliation is a special procedure that requires only 50 votes, not 60, to pass an increase in the debt ceiling (or tax increases for that matter). . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
5. You win or you die
HBO has been adapting a popular series of fantasy novels generally referred to as "A Game of Thrones," although that's technically only the title of the first volume; author George R.R. Martin names the entire series "A Song of Ice and Fire." The show has been an enormous hit for HBO, evidently drawing a large number of viewers who didn't read the original books. Last night's episode, second to last in Season Three, therefore came as devastating blow to much of the audience. It's impossible to discuss without some spoilers, so please click away now if you don't want the plot of the show spoiled for you.
Here's a bit of general background, which will also give the spoiler-averse a moment to eject from this post: "Game of Thrones" is about the brutal struggle for control of a fantasy kingdom called Westeros. The supernatural elements of the show are very muted. In fact, most of the characters don't actually believe in magic at all, but there are supernatural forces afoot. For the most part, it's an extremely gritty show set in a realistic medieval environment. You really don't want to live in a realistic medieval environment, especially if you're one of the peasants, or "smallfolk" as they're known in the books. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →

Journalist Links Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi to Benghazi

On Friday Cynthia Farahat, reporting for Frontpage Mag, offered a new wrinkle in the Benghazi story line. She raised a legitimate question from examination of a YouTube video. Farahat alleges that one of the terrorists referenced Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi by saying, "Don't shoot. Don't shoot. Dr. Morsi sent us." Her contention is that this was said in an Egyptian dialect of Arabic. I do not speak much Arabic and I certainly do not know anything about the different dialects. With that said I think this is an interesting possibility and I want to share this with our readers. Here is an excerpt from Farahat's article:

Justice Dept Official: Criticism of Islam Not Protected Free Speech
by Clare M. Lopez The Clarion Project June 2, 2013
The Department of Justice appears poised to move one step closer to enforcement of Islamic law on slander and blasphemy in America by threatening prosecution of citizens who exercise their First Amendment rights to free speech-if such speech dares to criticize Islam.
Bill Killian, a top Department of Justice (DOJ) official and the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Tennessee, is scheduled to headline an event on June 4, 2013 entitled, "Public Disclosure in a Diverse Society" that's sponsored by the American Muslim Advisory Council of Tennessee. The stated purpose of the meeting, according to the local Tullahoma News, is "increasing awareness and understanding that American Muslims are not the terrorists some have made them out to be in social media and other circles."
Of course, the timing for the event would seem particularly ill-chosen in the wake of recent
jihadist attacks and plots at the Boston Marathon (April 15, 2013), in the Iran-al-Qaeda plot against the Canadian Via Rail (April 2013) and the slaughter of British soldier, Lee Rigby, on a Woolwich, London street to the Islamic cry of, "Allahu Akbar
!"Nonetheless, based on
Tullahoma News, online postings that describe truthfully how authoritative texts and teachings of Islam inspire
jihadis to acts of violence, may henceforth be considered violations of federal civil rights laws. If such statements, however truthful, or apparently even original Islamic scriptural texts, are considered "inflammatory" by the FBI's Muslim advisors, Killian wants American citizens to know "what federal laws are in effect and what the consequences are
."This is a chilling and very direct threat to the First Amendment guarantee of the right to free speech. Even though the First Amendment also guarantees of freedom of religion, it does not limit critical discussion ("inflammatory" or otherwise) by private citizens of any ideological, legal, political or religious belief system, including Islam.
Killian and his FBI bosses ought to know that.

Posted by Daniel Greenfield @ the Sultan Knish blog
On a mild London afternoon, two Muslims rammed a car into a British soldier returning to the barracks after working at the Tower of London. They shouted Allah Akbar and hacked and slashed at his body in an attempt to behead him. By the time they were done, his body could only be identified through dental records. Shortly afterward, British Prime Minister David Cameron said that "there is nothing in Islam that justifies this truly dreadful act". London Mayor Boris Johnson added, "It is completely wrong to blame this killing on Islam." Now former Prime Minister Tony Blair has thrown in his two pence writing, "There is not a problem with Islam. For those of us who have studied it, there is no doubt about its true and peaceful nature." Blair previously claimed to have read the Koran every day, but apparently did not get as far as Chapter 5, which contains the verses that the Muslim murderers quoted after their butchery. And that's understandable. Between his business deals with the Qatari royal family, which is behind much of the terrorism in the Middle East, the Kuwaiti royal family and the royals of the United Arab Emirates, it stands to reason that Tony probably never got past a few verses a day. It's easy to picture Tony Blair after a hot muggy day of clasping the greasy hands of Emirs and Sheikhs and trading his expertise for blood money, remembering to always eat with the right hand, not the left, returning to his five star hotel room, climbing into bed with his room Koran, flipping it open to the first chapter, reading, "In the name of Allah, the Gracious, the Merciful" and deciding that sounds peaceful enough, letting his head hit the pile of plush pillows and calling it a day. If Tony had made it as far as Chapter 2, where the Koran proclaims "Fight in the cause of Allah", then the expert on Islam might have been able to entertain some doubts about its truly peaceful nature. In what the Daily Mail describes as a "brave assault on Muslim extremism", Blair writes, "There is not a problem with Islam... But there is a problem within Islam - from the adherents of an ideology that is a strain within Islam."

June 3, 2013 The latest assault on free speech Tomorrow night (June 4th) a meeting that appears to be unprecedented will take place in Manchester, Tennessee. A representative of the Department of Justice-a U.S. Attorney-and an FBI agent will appear at a meeting sponsored by a Muslim organization to warn people about speech that is allegedly violating the civil rights of Muslims. See the Politico story below (highlights and Editor's Note added). ACT! for America has already sent an email to our Tennessee list, urging people to show up at this meeting and respectfully express their concerns about this assault on free speech. While we find the Facebook posting described in the story below to be provocative and ill-advised, it is certainly less inflammatory than some of the jihadist speech publicly proclaimed by imams in this country.
And as Floyd Abrams, a First Amendment expert, points out in the story below, this government effort to intimidate free speech is "just wrong."
|
If you'd like to attend the meeting in Manchester, it will start at 6:30 P.M. and take place at the Manchester-Coffee County Conference Center, 147 Hospitality Blvd. If you can't attend, you can still take action in two ways!
The global politically correct assault on free speech is in full swing. There's no guarantee we'll retain that right if we don't stand up to defend it.
Feds suggest anti-Muslim speech can be punished By BYRON TAU | 5/31/13 5:26 PM EDT http://www.politico.com/blogs/under-the-radar/2013/05/feds-suggest-antimuslim-speech-can-be-punished-165163.html A U.S. attorney in Tennessee is reportedly vowing to use federal civil rights statutes to clamp down on offensive and inflammatory speech about Islam. Bill Killian, U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Tennessee, was quoted by the Tullahoma News this week suggesting that some inflammatory material on Islam might run afoul of federal civil rights laws. "We need to educate people about Muslims and their civil rights, and as long as we're here, they're going to be protected," Killian told the newspaper. Killian, along with the FBI special agent that runs the Knoxville office, are set to speak next week to a special meeting with the local Muslim community, informing them about their rights under federal law. "This is an educational effort with civil rights laws as they play into freedom of religion and exercising freedom of religion," Killian said about the meeting. "This is also to inform the public what federal laws are in effect and what the consequences are." Killian pointed to a recent controversy where a local Tennessee politician posted a photo of a man aiming a shotgun at the camera with the caption "How to wink at a Muslim." "If a Muslim had posted 'How to Wink at a Christian,' could you imagine what would have happened?" Killian asked, according to the newspaper. The Department of Justice did not respond Friday to a question about what guidelines it draws concerning offensive speech and Islam, or whether the department believes that civil rights statutes could be used to stifle criticism of Islam. While threats directed at individuals or small groups can lead to punishment, First Amendment experts expressed doubt that the government has any power to stop offensive material about Islam from circulating. "He's just wrong," said Floyd Abrams, one of the country's most respected First Amendment attorneys. "The government may, indeed, play a useful and entirely constitutional role in urging people not to engage in speech that amounts to religious discrimination. But it may not, under the First Amendment, prevent or punish speech even if it may be viewed as hostile to a religion." "And what it most clearly may not do is to stifle political or social debate, however rambunctious or offensive some may think it is," Abrams said. A conservative watchdog group, Judicial Watch, accused the Obama administration of using federal law to specifically protect Muslims from criticism. "In its latest effort to protect followers of Islam in the U.S. the Obama Justice Department warns against using social media to spread information considered inflammatory against Muslims, threatening that it could constitute a violation of civil rights," the group wrote in a blog post. In recent years, the federal government has faced difficult questions about how to respond to material posted about Islam and the Prophet Muhammed - especially when the content causes riots or attacks abroad. [EDITOR'S NOTE: NOTICE THIS WORDING, THAT THE CONTENT "CAUSES" RIOTS. SPEECH DOESN'T "CAUSE" RIOTS. IF IT DID, WE'D HAVE RIOTS EVERY DAY ALL OVER AMERICA.] In 2010, a Christian pastor in Florida, Terry Jones, made international news when he threatened to burn 200 copies of the Koran on the ninth anniversary of the September 11th attacks. The federal government admitted it was powerless to stop Jones, though President Barack Obama condemned the idea. Jones backed off from his September attempt, but later burned a Koran in 2012. A similar controversy erupted when a Coptic Christian man posted the trailer for an anti-Muhammed film online - causing rioting and an attack on the U.S. Embassy in Cairo. The Obama administration condemned the attack, while blasting the filmmaker for religious intolerance.

Obama Tells Senior UN Official "The United States Will be a Muslim Country by 2016"
Posted by sharia unveiled on June 2, 2013
by, Avi Lipkin
On the surface, the fact that the U.S. Commerce Department is considering granting "disadvantaged minority" business status to Arab Americans doesn't appear to elicit a cause for alarm (see the link below).
But when aligned with other developments, both here in the U.S. and across the Middle East, it creates a larger context that says otherwise. Available for interviews to explain is Avi Lipkin, a U.S.-born Israeli citizen, former member of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) and a former translator inside the Israeli Prime Minister's office.
Apart from maintaining his circles within Israel and the international diplomatic community, Lipkin also-together with his wife, Rachel, an Egyptian-born Israeli-closely monitors various media transmissions throughout the Arab world.
Combining the content of those transmissions with American domestic developments under the Obama administration-from Obama's policy decisions with regard to Iran, Israel and the so-called Arab Spring, to many of his czar appointments, right down to his infamous 2009 bow to the Saudi king-the notion that Obama could be executing a Saudi plot to Islamize America becomes increasingly unnerving.
Consider Obama's stance on immigration. According to Arabic language broadcasts intercepted and interpreted by Lipkin, "The Moslem world is saying that President Obama wants amnesty for the current 12 million illegal Hispanic immigrants in the U.S. in order to pave the way for the next wave of tens of millions of illegals from the Middle East to the United States, leading to 50 to 100 million Muslims living in the U.S. before the end of Obama's second term..."

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=XqrO5Ii4xxI (3.09 minutes) MUST SEE EXPLAINS HILLARY AND HUMA's and Homeland security relationship to MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD! THE JOKE IS ON US!
Further, Lipkin has a source with a senior United Nations official that has also said the U.S. will be a Muslim country by 2016-a scenario that makes the Commerce Department's latest deliberation to grant Arab businesses a leg up rather peculiar in its timing. As a guest on your show, Lipkin can speak to all of these developments and more, and outline his best speculative assertion of how Obama is carrying out a three-phase Saudi plan that involves the following:
1. See to the end of the Iranian Shi'ite threat, be it with assistance from Israel or via the rise of a fanatic Muslim Brotherhood Sunni Regime born out of the Arab Spring.
2. Following the takeover of the regimes in the Middle East and the Arab Spring unrest, allow the inevitably massive exodus of Sunni Muslims and Christians from Egypt and other nations to find amnesty in America and Europe-thus bringing about Muslim majorities in the U.S., Europe, Canada and Latin America.
3. Terminate the Jewish threat by allowing the Muslim Brotherhood nations to march on Israel.

Judge Orders Google To Be Evil
A Federal Judge has ordered Google to hand over user information to the FBI in response to the FBI's warrantless "National Security Letter requests that often also demand the users never be informed that their private information has been given to the Feds.
"CNET has learned that U.S. District Judge Susan Illston in San Francisco rejected Google's request to modify or throw out 19 so-called National Security Letters, a warrantless electronic data-gathering technique used by the FBI that does not need a judge's approval. Her ruling came after a pair of top FBI officials, including an assistant director, submitted classified affidavits. The litigation taking place behind closed doors in Illston's courtroom - a closed-to-the-public hearing was held on May 10 - could set new ground rules curbing the FBI's warrantless access to information that Internet and other companies hold on behalf of their users. The FBI issued 192,499 of the demands from 2003 to 2006, and 97 percent of NSLs include a mandatory gag order."

Why is Jeb Bush and Neil Bush pushing Communist Common Core in Florida ?
COMMON CORE IS THE COMMUNIST CENTRAL CONTROL OF OUR CHILDREN'S EDUCATION ACROSS THE UNITED STATES MANAGED IN WASHINGTON DC WITH BARRY SOETORO HUSSEIN OBAMA AT THE HELM
Dear Patriots, Common Core in our schools across this nation violates the United States Constitution. It would be like telling all Sheriffs across the United States to set up their Sherriff's office based on one office in the FBI in Washington DC. Its wrong. It violates the 10th and 4th Amendments. It will data mine our kids and provide the federal government access to all our kids personal school records in direct violation of federal privacy act laws and the 4th Amendment. It was created by the United Nations and based upon Communist countries like China and Vietnam. The Communists in the Obama federal government will then get their hands around our kids throats and school records and choke them into submission as good little Marxists. Parents will be OUT of the loop. These records also include whether their parents are registered Republicans or Democrats. The IRS will have so much fun with this when the info is past onto them too. So boys and girls it boils down to one thing. It's all about control of our kids and preparing them for the new world order and the United Nations governance. Its BAD for America. The states are responsible for the education our children right behind the parents. We teach them about the Constitution and their rights. This in turn is broken down into counties and local school districts ran by parents and parent teacher committees. Common core is controlled by Obama's evil doers in the Dept. of Education. ITS BAD Kiss our country goodbye if Common Core is fully implemented along with Communist controlled Obamacare. The time is NOW to resist and stop it ! Commies always go after the kids first. ! I would recommend ALL schools across Florida REFUSE federal money from the Dept. of Education. PERIOD !!! Cut out the cancer ! So why is Jeb Bush pushing common core Communism down our throats here in Florida ? Why is he trying to influence our leadership that this Marxist form of education is good for Florida ? Lets dig. It will make sense to you soon why the school book texts are so much Islamic biased with little reference to Christians. Everything is connected. Bush 41 signed the Agenda 21 treaty with the United Nations calling for our Education to be under the Karl Marx based Sustainable America. Clinton continued with Agenda 21. He is close friends of the Bush family and supports the Karl Marx based Sustainable America while he gave away our technology to China. GW Bush 43, siblings are Pauline Robinson "Robin" Bush, John Ellis "Jeb" Bush, Neil Mallon Bush, Marvin Pierce Bush, and Dorothy "Doro" Bush LeBlond Koch. In 1999, Neil Bush co-founded Ignite! Learning, an educational software corporation. Bush has said he started Austin-based Ignite! Learning because of his learning difficulties in middle school and those of his son, Pierce. The software uses multiple intelligence methods to provide varying types of content to appeal to multiple learning styles. Ignite! Learning offers middle school curricula in social studies, science, and mathematics. The company's instructional design is based on constructivism, differentiated instruction, and Howard Gardner's writing on multiple intelligences to appeal to multiple learning styles. To fund Ignite!, Neil Bush and others raised $23 million from U.S. investors, including his parents, Barbara Bush and George H.W. Bush, as well as businessmen from Taiwan, Japan, Kuwait, the British Virgin Islands and the United Arab Emirates, according to documents filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission. As of 2006, at least $2 million had come from Taiwanese interests that had given Neil Bush a job consulting for a semiconductor manufacturer, and at least $3 million came from Saudi interests. A foundation linked to Reverend Sun Myung Moon donated $1 million for a research project by the company in Washington, D.C.-area schools. In 2002, Ignite! entered into a partnership with a Mexican company, Grupo Carso to outsource many software and product development functions. Regarding the deal, Ignite! President (then CFO) Ken Leonard stated, "That's turned out to be great." Ignite! laid off 42% of its in-house workforce (21 individuals) in preparation for the partnership. Leonard said that outsourcing production will give it the resources to develop additional course software more quickly, and that the company wants to develop an entire middle school curriculum featuring the basics of language arts, math and science. Deceased Russian billionaire expatriate Boris Berezovsky had been an investor in Bush's Ignite! program since at least 2003. Berezovsky's partner Badri Patarkatsishvili, Kuwaiti company head Mohammed Al Saddah, and Chinese computer executive Winston Wong. Imagine that. All these Communists putting a hand into our school system here in the USA ! BAD !! Follow the $$$$$$$ As of October 2006, over 13 U.S. school districts (out of over 14,000 school districts nation-wide have used federal funds made available through the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 in order to buy Ignite's products at $3,800 apiece which is Neil Bush's company !! In December 2003, a Washington Post Style article said that Ignite! was paying Neil Bush a salary of $180,000 per year. So we have Jeb Bush pushing Communist Common Core in Florida all while Neil Bush is perhaps standing ready in the wings to fund it with his software company! IMAGINE THAT ! STOP COMMON CORE. Before you know it the US Constitution will be a paper used for lining bird cages like in the White House and Karl Marx will reign supreme in our schools across our Republic. I will have none of it. ! I would like to thank Fox News for running this story yesterday but now I need for you to bring in someone to speak against it !!! Not some Commie Pinko from New York trying to implement it. Thanks Brett. copy to Fox News. New York City

Monday, June 3, 2013 To: Friends & Supporters From: Gary L. Bauer Obama's IRS Scandal: Washington Knew As more details emerge, the Obama IRS scandal is getting worse. Two weeks ago, apologists for the administration attempted to blame the IRS targeting of Tea Party, conservative and Christian ministries on "two rogue agents" in a Cincinnati, Ohio, office. It was a laughable suggestion then. Now it looks like another deliberate attempt to mislead Congress and the American people. Here are some updates on the growing scandal:
- Late Friday CNN reported that nearly 90 IRS employees "may have documents relevant to the congressional investigation into targeting of conservative groups." It seems there may be scores of "rogue" agents at Obama's IRS!
- According to a partial transcript, one Cincinnati IRS agent told House GOP investigators that it was "impossible" for two rogue agents to be responsible for the scandal. The agent said: "...we are controlled by many, many people. We have to submit many, many reports. So the chance of two agents being rogue and doing things like that could never happen."
- Asked where the orders came from, the agent said his supervisor "told me that Washington, D.C., wanted some cases."
- Another senior IRS employee in Cincinnati told investigators that he/she actually sought a transfer because of inappropriate micromanaging from Washington, D.C.: "It was the whole Tea Party. It was the whole picture. I mean, it was the micromanagement. The fact that the subject area was extremely sensitive and it was something that I didn't want to be associated with."
- On CNN's Sunday talk show, "State of the Union," Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA), said, "...the reason Lois Lerner tried to take the fifth is not because there is a rogue in Cincinnati, it's because this is a problem that was coordinated in all likelihood right out of [the] Washington headquarters and we're getting to proving it."
- News broke over the weekend that while the IRS was harassing conservatives, it spent $50 million on lavish conferences. In one case, IRS employees stayed in presidential suites costing as much as $3,500 a night! And Barack Obama has the audacity to tell the American people that his administration just can't find any fat and waste to cut for the sequester.
I urge you to follow the same advice I am giving our friends on Capitol Hill: When discussing this scandal with your friends or family members, do not say "IRS" without including "Obama's" in front of it. Don't let Democrats get away with the idea that this is some agency the president has no control over. It is Obama's IRS! Ex-Commissioner's Wife Is A Left-wing Activist Democrats have tried to downplay the Obama IRS scandal by pointing out that former IRS Commissioner Doug Shulman, who led the agency when these abuses took place, was appointed by George W. Bush. That proves nothing. For example, we know Shulman donated $500 to the Democrat National Committee in 2004. In addition, Breitbart.com reports that Shulman's wife, Susan, works for a left-wing group pushing so-called "campaign finance reform." She also joined the Occupy Wall Street movement. That's an interesting coincidence because Democrats have defended the IRS's abusive actions by citing the need for campaign finance reform. Many of them also hoped Occupy Wall Street would emerge as a liberal counterbalance to the Tea Party. Criminalizing Dissent Last week I wrote that such systematic and widespread targeting of conservative groups and Christian ministries does not happen by accident. Some have labeled it part of a "culture of intimidation," in which dissent is punished. Whatever you want to call it, it is a dangerous development that feeds cynicism and undermines faith in government. Here's how Peggy Noonan described it in a recent column:
"What does it mean when half the country -- literally half the country -- understands that the revenue-gathering arm of its federal government is politically corrupt, sees them as targets, and will shoot at them if they try to raise their heads? That is the kind of thing that can kill a country, letting half its citizens believe that they no longer have full political rights."
Voter Fraud Scandal For years Republicans and Democrats have fought over voter fraud and ballot security issues. Democrats claim voter fraud is a non-issue and say that voter ID laws are racist measures designed to suppress minority turnout. Republicans point to ACORN and other scandals and irregularities. Well, a top staffer for a Florida Democratic congressman resigned late last week in another developing voter fraud scandal. The resignation came about after the FBI raided the homes of the congressman's communications director and his 2012 campaign manager. But unless you are watching Fox News you probably didn't hear about it. Stop The Insanity! Friday we told you about the five year-old Maryland boy who was suspended for 10 days and questioned for two hours by school officials for bringing a toy gun on the school bus. The public outrage at this injustice was so overwhelming that his suspension was reduced to the three days he already served, but there is still some controversy about clearing his permanent record. Unfortunately, there is an even more unbelievable story. Bruce Henkelman of Huntingtown, Maryland, says his 11 year-old son was suspended for 10 days just for talking about guns. According to Henkelman, his son was talking about the Sandy Hook shootings and told his friends, "I wish I had a gun to protect everyone." So this boy was suspended apparently for merely talking about exercising his Second Amendment rights. He was punished for wanting to protect people! What kind of perverse message does that send to our youth?

Obama was pushed by Clintons into endorsement of Hillary in 2016: book
By EDWARD KLEIN
June 2, 2013
President Obama made a secret deal to support Hillary Clinton when she runs for president in 2016, campaign sources say, payback for the support her husband gave him in 2012.
Bill Clinton's animosity toward Obama is legendary. A year before the last election, he was urging Hillary to challenge the sitting president for the nomination - a move she rejected.
According to two people who attended that meeting in Chappaqua, Bill Clinton then went on a rant against Obama.
"I've heard more from Bush, asking for my advice, than I've heard from Obama," my sources quoted Clinton as saying. "I have no relationship with the president - none whatsoever. Obama doesn't know how to be president. He doesn't know how the world works. He's incompetent. He's an amateur!"
BLOOMBERG'S VISIT ALL 'FORE' NOTHING
For his part, Obama wasn't interested in Bill Clinton upstaging him during the presidential campaign. He resisted giving him any role at the convention.
But as last summer wore on, and Democrat enthusiasm waned, chief political strategist David Axelrod convinced the president that he needed Bill Clinton's mojo.
A deal was struck: Clinton would give the key nominating speech at the convention, and a full-throated endorsement of Obama. In exchange, Obama would endorse Hillary Clinton as his successor.
Clinton's speech was as promised; columnists pointed out the surprising enthusiasm in which he described the president. It also lived up to Obama's fears, as more people talked about Clinton's speech in the weeks following than his own.
But after his re-election, Obama began to have second thoughts. He would prefer to stay neutral in the next election, as is traditional of outgoing presidents.

IRS Scandal - Don't Lose Sight Of The Big Picture A speech to the Tea Party Unity Summit at the Capitol Visitors Center, Washington, D.C. May 30, 2013 By Don Feder If you think the Empire of Japan had nothing to do with Pearl Harbor, that Islam has nothing to do with terrorism, that amnesties don't encourage illegal immigration, and if you were shocked, shocked!, to learn that gambling was going on at Rick's American Club in "Casablanca" - then you probably believe that the White House was in no way connected to the current IRS scandal. Last week, Acting IRS Commissioner Steven T. Miller and Lois Lerner, formerly in charge of the IRS division that deals with foundations, testified before Congress. Lerner told the House Oversight Committee: "I have not done anything wrong" but "I will not answer any questions or testify today." Taking the Fifth Amendment is just what you'd expect from someone who did nothing wrong - like the guys with organized-crime ties. Apparently, Lerner also did nothing wrong when she ran the enforcement office at the Federal Election Commission and went after the Christian Coalition with a vengeance. Miller managed to testify without actually saying anything. He wouldn't reveal who in the IRS had targeted conservative foundations (In an earlier interview, Lerner called it the work of "front line people"). In his testimony, Miller said the two-year vendetta against the Tea Parties and conservative groups was - are you ready for this? - "a foolish mistake" by "people trying to be more efficient." In the name of efficiency, the IRS targeted somewhere between 300 and 500 Tea Party and conservative applicants for tax-exempt status. Organizations were singled out for having "Tea Party," "pro-life" and "patriotic" in their name or saying they wanted to "make America a better place to live." This clearly marked them as a threat to national security which warranted extra scrutiny. If only we could get the more dubious Muslim groups in this country to add patriotic, pro-life and Tea Party to their names.

Evangelical Group Pushing Immigration Reform Doesn't Legally Exist |
|
by Mike Flynn
Late last week, The Huffington Post reported that the Evangelical Immigration Table, a coalition of evangelicals supporting the Senate immigration bill, had announced a $250,000 ad buy in support of the legislation. It was part of the Table's 92-day Pray for Reform campaign that also included newspaper and radio ads. Curiously, however, the Evangelical Immigration Table doesn't legally exist as an incorporated political entity or non-profit organization.
On Thursday, Breitbart News contacted the Evangelical Immigration Table (EIT), asking about the organization's structure, how it is governed and where it receives funding. The organization responded Friday in an email to Breitbart News

Holder Won't Go Until Obama Pushes Him. What Are the Odds of That Happening?
The Obama administration has effectively hacked the traditional checks and balances of our governing system, in that if President Obama wants Attorney General Eric Holder to stay, he will stay, and no other factor -- not Congress, not the press, not even contempt of Congress votes, congressional hearings that turn into all-out-sneer-fests -- matters. So while these sentences in the Sunday New York Times are interesting . . .
Over the course of four and a half years, no other member of President Obama's cabinet has been at the center of so many polarizing episodes or the target of so much criticism. While the White House publicly backed Mr. Holder as he tried to smooth over the latest uproar amid new speculation about his future, some in the West Wing privately tell associates they wish he would step down, viewing him as politically maladroit. But the latest attacks may stiffen the administration's resistance in the near term to a change for fear of emboldening critics.
But that does not mitigate the frustration of some presidential aides. "The White House is apoplectic about him, and has been for a long time," said a Democratic former government official who did not want to be identified while talking about friends.
They don't mean much until President Obama says, "Eric, you've got to go." And he won't, because he perceives that as giving the Republicans a win. So everything else -- Fast & Furious, the AP phone-record scandal, the James Rosen conspiracy-claim scandal, his testimony before Congress that he did not know about a possible prosecution of a Fox News reporter, James Rosen, despite his signature on a search warrant to monitor Rosen's e-mails -- proves meaningless. The Huffington Post can declare he ought to go, but that doesn't matter. Tom Brokaw can say it's tough to see how Holder stays, but that doesn't matter.
Holder stays because Obama wants him to stay. Obama locuta, causa finita -- Obama has spoken, the matter is settled.
Moe Lane sees the weekend's news as a typically internally divided administration:
If they can get a bunch of Democrats to regretfully say that it is of course a shame that the GOP is politicizing this issue, blah blah, that it's so unfair that Holder is a target of a witch hunt, yadda yadda, but nonetheless the reality must be faced that Republican intransigence has put Holder in an untenable position, etc, etc, etc... we all know how the game is played by now, yes?
Whether or not the right Democrats will take the hint is another story entirely. Normally you'd expect that the answer would be yes, but then: normally you'd expect that a Presidential administration would be competent at day to day affairs. This has been an incorrect expectation since, oh, about January of 2009.
The Internal Revenue Service Is About to Have Another Bad, Bad, Bad Week
The IRS is about to have another brutal week. Here's what Darrell Issa's got planned:
Committee's Thursday, June 6 hearing entitled "Collected and Wasted: The IRS Spending Culture and Conference Abuses." The hearing will focus on the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration report on excessive IRS conference spending and abuses of taxpayer dollars. Issa sent a letter about excessive spending to then-IRS Commissioner Douglas Shulman in April, 2012. Between 2010 and 2012, the IRS held at least 220 conferences, which cost approximately $50 million. In one example, the IRS spent $4 million dollars on a manager's conference for 2,600 people in Anaheim, Calif. in August, 2010. Contrary to established government contracting practices, the outside event planners did not negotiate lower room rates and instead focused on "perks" for IRS employees. Several IRS employees stayed in presidential suites, which rate at $1,500-$3,500 per night. Moreover, 15 outside speakers were paid $135,000 -- including one speaker who lectured on "leadership through art" for $17,000. Additionally, multiple videos were produced for the conference. A previously unreleased video, referred to as the "cupid shuffle," and featured employees learning the popular dance as part of preparation for the Anaheim management conference.
Watch IRS Employees "Getting Ready for Anaheim"
But wait there's more! Take a look at the excerpts from interviews that Issa's committee is releasing:
Another more senior IRS Cincinnati employee complained about micromanagement from D.C.: Q: But you specifically recall that the BOLO [Be On Look Out] terms included "Tea Party?" A: Yes, I do. Q: And it was your understanding -- was it your understanding that the purpose of the BOLO was to identify Tea Party groups? A: That is correct. Q: Was it your understanding that the purpose of the BOLO was to identify conservative groups? A: Yes, it was. Q: Was it your understanding that the purpose of the BOLO was to identify Republican groups? A: Yes, it was. ****** Q: Earlier I believe you informed us that the primary reason for applying for another job in July [2010] was because of the micromanagement from [Washington, DC, IRS Attorney], is that correct?
A: Right. It was the whole Tea Party. It was the whole picture. I mean, it was the micromanagement. The fact that the subject area was extremely sensitive and it was something that I didn't want to be associated with.
Q: Why didn't you want to be associated with it?
A: For what happened now. I mean, rogue agent? Even though I was taking all my direction from EO Technical [Washington, D.C], I didn't want my name in the paper for being this rogue agent for a project I had no control over.
Q: Did you think there was something inappropriate about what was happening in 2010?
A: Yes. The inappropriateness was not processing these applications fairly and timely.
A Little Humility When Talking Modern Parenting, Marriage, and Working Life, Please
Late Friday afternoon, the conservative blogosphere and Twittersphere got into another rumble over gender roles, probably triggered by that study on the number of households where the woman is the higher earner.
Erick Erickson of RedState may have gotten the ball rolling; read his thoughts in full to get his perspective.
But Megyn Kelly of Fox News, among others, took him to task for his comments that appeared to be critical of women working outside of the home. Neal Dewing and Ben Domenech have a lot to add.
Ace:
As you can see from Megyn Kelly's hostile reaction, no one really wants to hear outsiders criticizing his or her personal choices.
And there's really no way to cast Erickson's argument as anything other than a criticism of Megyn Kelly's choices -- though he tries to soften it up and fudge it up, he is, or at least was, saying that Megyn Kelly was short-changing her kid by continuing to work.
There's no way to fudge that. It's what he said. Megyn Kelly refuses to permit him to fudge it. There's no way that you can lay down the marker that "Women who work are doing a disservice to their children" and then think a working mother is going to be mollified by a "Well if that works for you..." fudge.
Third: One problem I have with this: If you're going to lay down that marker, then don't run away from it when challenged by Megyn Kelly. I mean, if you believe that, then stand up for it and declare it proudly. If it was true when Megyn Kelly wasn't around to hector you, it remains true when she is around to hector you.
I mean, if this was important enough to say, then it's important enough to say when under fire. If it's not important enough to say, maybe it wasn't important enough to say the first time.
Just a thought.
It feels like a lot of different issues are getting blurred together here. And the overall vibe from almost everyone is a flash-of-irritation, declared-through-gritted-teeth, "HEY! I . . . am . . . doing . . . the very best . . . I can . . . to take care of my kids . . . and earn a living! I'm getting absolutely no help here, and it's [insert other people] who are the problem!"
For starters, if a public commentator begins a sentence "Men are [this way], and women are [that way]," that person is basically asking for a lot of furious responses -- and/or ripping off routines from the B-list comedians of the 1980s and 1990s. In fact, there's a good chance that most commentators who frequently opine in this vein are really trolling or putting out link-bait.
"Men are generally [this way], and women are generally [that way]," is at least more accurate, but the commentator is still pretty much assured to get a lot of readers saying "No, your assessment is completely incorrect, because I'm not like [that way] at all," just as any suggestion that marijuana could be addictive to some segment of the population brings out all of the recreational users who cite themselves as definitive, book-closing evidence that it isn't addictive.
The headline from the recent Pew study was that mothers are now the primary source of income in 40 percent of American households, but as anyone with more than a few functioning brain cells can notice, there's a giant difference between a two-parent household where the mother earns more and a single-parent household where the mother's income is everything.
So the conversation on Twitter shifts around from topic to topic, touching on single-parenthood, the time pressures of being a parent, the job market, the cost of living, marriage and its stresses, feminism, and a dozen other related issues.
Bethany Mandel gets a bundle of advice that isn't really helpful at all:
Please, don't tell me that my being at home is better for my kid, I already know that. Tell me how that's financially possible. . . . Don't tell me that cutting my cable will somehow make up for the loss of my entire income. I'm already crazy thrifty & cheap . . . "Move to Texas." Great suggestions folks. We'll leave my husband's career and our entire families (and their free childcare) for no job. I can do math. . . . Surviving on one income and not sacrificing our entire lives to do it is impossible in modern day America. This is my point.
Kat McKinley points out the cultural influence of divorce and trophy wives, and that influence on trust between spouses.
Let me approach this topic with some humility and offer two pretty simple criteria for whether a work-family arrangement is working.
First criteria: Do you feel your current arrangement with your spouse results in your children being properly cared for and raised?
If the answer is "yes," then pat yourself on the back as you've managed to accomplish one of, if not the, most important task. If the answer is "no," then any other benefits of your current arrangement are going to pale in comparison. But we're not done yet.
Second: Are you happy with this current arrangement? Is your spouse? Okay, revising the question a bit, are you or your spouse miserable?
This is a tougher one, isn't it? In the comments from Ace above, he points out, "This argument illustrates the ever-present tension that exists between personal fulfillment and what's best for children." We on the Right tend to emphasize, correctly, that "if it feels good, do it" is an insufficient approach to life, and that there are often bad consequences to that philosophy. (A good neighbor of mine has a "If It's Not Fun, Why Do It?" bumper sticker from Ben & Jerry's. Well, because life involves a lot of necessary tasks that aren't fun, such as car inspections and getting the oil changed and rotating the tires and all of that other stuff.)
But somewhere in the "remember what's best for the children!" messaging, we on the right need to acknowledge people's need to be happy, or at least not miserable. I go back and forth every time I hear about a married couple -- sometimes with real problems -- "staying together for the sake of the kids." Yup, kids are better off in a home where mom and dad are together and doing the best they can through tough times. But it's harder to say with absolute certainty that soldiering on is the right course if the parents' problems go beyond the garden variety -- physical, verbal, or psychological abuse, alcoholism or drug abuse or other addictions, an absolute inability to resolve disputes . . .
Look, most kids are smart. In most cases, they've spent a lot of time around those parents. Chances are, they know something's wrong. And even if a pair of parents manage to effectively obscure the intense marital discord they're enduring, they're setting the kids up for a time-delayed trauma.
One acquaintance endured her parents' announcement that they would be divorcing soon shortly before she left for college. What was worse, the parents made clear that they had not loved each other for many years. I don't mean just physically; they apparently grew to detest each other but somehow managed to hide it from their kids for a long, long time. Imagine learning one day that your seemingly happy parents hated each other for years!
If we want these discussions to be more productive, then we'll need a bit of humility and a dollop of recognizing that different people, with different values and outlooks on life, will prefer different arrangements of work and family. But I'm not so sure that that many people even want a productive discussion. A lot of folks just want applause for the decisions they've made, and to criticize the decisions of other people.

The Smoking Gun in Plain Sight
By Herbert E. Meyer
As the Obama administration descends into a whirlpool of scandals, a race has begun among Congressional committees and news organizations to find the proverbial smoking gun -- the document that will link President Obama directly to the IRS's targeting of conservative groups, or to the Justice Department's unprecedented legal actions against the Associated Press and Fox News reporter James Rosen, or to the Pentagon's ghastly failure to launch a rescue mission when our consulate in Benghazi came under attack last September.
Study history, and you will understand why no such document is ever likely to be found: That just isn't how these things work. Very few people are aware of this, but there is no document -- not one -- linking Adolf Hitler to the Holocaust. Why not? Because Hitler didn't need to sign a document ordering the slaughter of six million Jews. All he needed to do was to demonize his enemy in speeches at the Reichstag, on the radio, and from one end of Germany to the other -- then hire thugs like Herman Goering, Heinrich Himmler, Adolf Eichmann, and Josef Goebbels. They knew what der Fuhrer wanted, and der Fuhrer knew he could trust his henchman to get the job done -- no matter how, no matter what may be the law -- and to not bother him with the gory details.
Reader, take a deep breath. Nowhere in this essay will I suggest, or even imply, that President Obama plans the mass murder of his opponents the way Hitler murdered his. That's absurd. I am merely pointing out that President Obama has been going about the business of demonizing his political enemies, and then hiring thugs to destroy them without regard to the law, in precisely the same way that Hitler and his fascists did it in Germany. This isn't an accusation; it's an observation.

Did Lois Lerner commit extortion under US Code Title 18 section 872?
Jun 03, 2013 06:13 am | Coach Collins
By Derrick Hollenbeck, staff writer
Because he posed a threat to Dick Durbin's US Senate election in 1996, Illinois Republican Al Salvi was threatened by a United States government official. That official was Lois Lerner and she was using her position as a representative of the Federal Election Commission. In the course of her FEC inquisition of Salvi for alleged election law violations, Lerner made a statement that amounts to extortion.
Following the Chicago way, Durbin made a series of FEC complaints against Salvi and Lerner took the point in handling his case. According to Salvi, at one point Lerner made an offer to him that appears to have constituted the crime of extortion under US Code Title 18 section 872. She said, "Promise me you will never run for office again, and we'll drop this case."
Salvi rejected the extortionist offer and was punished with a series of phony charges stemming from Durbin's complaint. The ... Continue Reading:Did Lois Lerner commit extortion under US Code Title 18 section 872?

MONDAY BRIEF
The Boy Scouts and Timeless Values
June 3, 2013
The Foundation
"[A] good moral character is the first essential in a man, and that the habits contracted at your age are generally indelible, and your conduct here may stamp your character through life. It is therefore highly important that you should endeavor not only to be learned but virtuous." --George Washington
Faith and Family
Timeless values or PC values?
"The recent decision by the National Council of the Boy Scouts of America to allow 'openly gay' youth to become members of the Boy Scouts was nothing short of a betrayal -- a betrayal not only of the values scouting has represented for decades but also of the families whose support for the Scouts has spanned generations. ... It's worth noting that the law does NOT require the change in Scouts' policy: the ban on homosexual members was upheld as constitutional by the Supreme Court, which affirmed the right of the Boy Scouts to remain true to their mission and decide, on a principled basis, who may become a member of their group. How ironic: After years of successful battles to maintain timeless principles, the BSA has fallen by their own hand. ... [A]ll parents should use this sad moment to explain to young people, in particular, that the freedoms we hold dear will not survive if the moral fabric of our country continues to crumble. As those of us who have left scouting and now mourn the death of the BSA, let's bind up our broken hearts and resolve to continue to honor the many leaders, families and churches who worked so hard over the years to build the character of young men through scouting. And to all former scouts -- especially the Eagles -- I urge you to write down your own treasured scouting memories so that you can share with your own kids one day what it was like when the Boy Scouts of America stood for principle and truth. RIP, BSA." --columnist Rebecca Hagelin
Culture
"Score another triumph for modern American culture -- the sexual assault scandal now racking the military. ... The idea of pretending male and female personnel are the same in military terms and deserve the same status is the loopiest idea of our loopiest century, the 20th. ... Sexual assault is what happens when you mix men and women in the same pot, then season it ... with the cultural nonsense of the past 50 years; all the rubbish spoken by men and women alike, and approved by our intellectual/activist caste, about the necessity of ditching moral guidelines and guardrails, letting people operate pretty much the way they want to. Ideas have consequences, ladies and gentlemen of the political establishment. Pour into the intellectual pipeline a lot of nonsense about the oppressiveness of moral codes, and what comes out at the end of the pipeline is -- ta-da! -- 26,000 sexual assaults in the military, made easier, made more logical, by the complaisance of our post-1965 culture in the demise of standards and restraints of all kinds. What you sow, you reap." --columnist William Murchison

Supreme Court rules police can take DNA swabs from those arrested
Published June 03, 2013
| Associated Press
A sharply divided Supreme Court on Monday said police can continue to take DNA from people they arrest without getting a warrant. The court's five-justice majority said DNA testing was a legitimate police arrest procedure, like fingerprinting.
"Taking and analyzing a cheek swab of the arrestee DNA is, like fingerprinting and photographing, a legitimate police booking procedure that is reasonable under the Fourth Amendment," Justice Anthony Kennedy wrote for the court's five-justice majority.
But the four dissenting justices said that the court was allowing a major change in police powers.
"Make no mistake about it: because of today's decision, your DNA can be taken and entered into a national database if you are ever arrested, rightly or wrongly, and for whatever reason," conservative Justice Antonin Scalia said in a sharp dissent which he read aloud in the courtroom.

Casting shadows on the wall
Posted: 03 Jun 2013 02:52 PM PDT
(Scott Johnson)
Writing about Plato's Allegory of the Cave yesterday, I mangled it badly. Professor Alexander Di Pippo has gently admonished me:
I've been studying philosophy for over 20 years and teach it at college. I just wanted to correct you on something you said about Plato's cave allegory. When corrected, the idea of inversion [that I was arguing] doesn't work.
It's not that the Forms outside the cave cast the shadow on the wall inside the cave. Those shadows are produced by one group of individuals in the cave who hold up artifacts in front of the light of a fire in the cave. The other group of individuals, the prisoners, are facing the wall upon which the shadows are projected, and their heads are shackled so they cannot turn around. The artifacts are meant to be contrasted with the what is real (the forms), and the fire, which the shadows and the artifacts depend on to be seen, is to be contrasted with the sun, which provides the condition for seeing the forms. The philosopher is neither the prisoner who only knows the shadows or the individual projecting these shadows.
I am grateful for the correction and wanted to share it with readers. The Allegory of the Cave is one of the high points of The Republic. To paraphrase the old Statler Brothers song, casting shadows on the wall - that does bother me after all. I didn't mean to be casting shadows myself and I regret the error. Below is, I hope, an accurate pictorial representation of the Allegory of the Cave.

The Atlantic has posted an item assessing effect of the death of Senator Lautenberg on various issues near and dear to the Democrats. The item is posted under the heading "How Senator Lautenberg's death makes the Senate even less functional." After each of three issues, the Atlantic rates the "Affect of Lautenberg's death." The "Affect" of Senator Lautenberg's death rates from Low to Very High.
Although the effect is slight, the error affects me negatively. Usage errors of this kind are epidemic and really inexcusable among those for whom the English language is the stock-in-trade. As with so many such errors, it is one that is also easily be avoided by the use of a dictionary or the memorization of a basic rule of thumb. See, e.g., "You can affect an effect."

About Those Non-Flatulent Cows . . .

(Steven Hayward)
I got to thinking a bit more about the item I posted Saturday on how "Scientists Plan to Reduce Greenhouse Gases by Breeding Fartless Cows," and it suddenly occurred to me-hey wait a minute: I thought environmentalists were against genetic engineering!
As it happens, I'm currently reading the galleys for a fabulous book coming out at the end of this month, Pascal Bruckner's The Fanaticism of the Apocalypse: Save the Earth, Punish Human Beings. Put it on your summer reading list; it is terrific. I'll have a complete review in due course in one of the usual places, but for now I'll share his comment on the reflexive anti-GMO position of the environmental left:
Ecologism is the philosophy of twilight, of the pale and wan. Will genetic engineering soon allow us to develop a mosquito that can sterilize the anopheles mosquitos that spread malaria? That would be a prodigious invention capable of eradicating one of the worst scourges of our time. Immediately the censors throw fits, associations mobilize: no genetically modified organisms!
Yeah, that sounds about right. Fartless cows, si; saving third world children from malaria, no.
Meanwhile, over at the Discover Magazine blog, Keith Kloor takes to the woodshed journalists who credit unscientific anti-GMO views, wondering whether said journalists are stupid, or just lazy:
When a NYT investigative reporter reinforces the biggest myths and fears pushed by the anti-GMO movement, I don't see how it's possible to have a constructive, science-based discourse about genetically modified foods.

Manufacturing Drops-Unexpectedly!
Posted: 03 Jun 2013 10:24 AM PDT
(John Hinderaker)
From Bloomberg:
Manufacturing in the U.S. unexpectedly shrank in May at the fastest pace in four years, showing slowdowns in business and government spending are holding back the world's largest economy.
The Institute for Supply Management's factory index fell to 49, the lowest reading since June 2009, from the prior month's 50.7, the Tempe, Arizona-based group's report showed today. Fifty is the dividing line between growth and contraction. The median forecast of 81 economists surveyed by Bloomberg was 51.
Glenn Reynolds initiated the "Unexpectedly!" theme several years ago; since then there have been countless news stories about the U.S. economy's "unexpected" failures to perform. Observers generally offer micro-explanations based on trends of the moment. Currently, among other things, the minute sequester cuts are blamed for some portion of the drop in manufacturing.
But this narrow focus obscures the broader point: the American economy has performed terribly, by any objective standard, over the last few years. The recovery of 2009 to the present is the weakest-by far-of any postwar recovery. Unemployment and poverty are sky-high because economic growth is anemic. But why is growth so sluggish? After all, there are powerful forces that should be driving the economy forward, foremost among them the North American energy boom. Take the current data on manufacturing: it has been widely reported that manufacturing is returning to the U.S. because cheap energy here, the result of the shale oil and gas revolution, balances out lower labor costs in Asia. But if this is the case-and it is-then why is domestic manufacturing declining?
America's slow-to-nonexistent economic growth, of which today's manufacturing data are one of many symptoms, is the result of bad government policies: out-of-control regulations, excessive and inefficient government spending, rising tax rates and the impending disaster of Obamacare, to name the most obvious ones. Until observers are willing to acknowledge the extent to which poor government drags down the economy, they will continue to be surprised by unexpected bad news.

Coal Makes a Comeback
Posted: 03 Jun 2013 07:25 AM PDT
(Steven Hayward)
Every now and then I get asked to be on panels about the future of energy where you're supposed to embrace the path of the True and the Beautiful by predicting the brilliant energy prospects of lima bean curd, unicorn flop sweat, dilithium nanoparticulates, or something-anything except the hydrocarbons we use today. I typically like to have fun by saying the future of energy is-coal. Never fails to provoke outrage. It has the additional benefit of being true.
There was a flurry of excitement mixed with cognitive dissonance among environmentalists over the last couple of years as the proportion of electricity from coal (about 50 percent for most of the last 20 years) declined rapidly (to under 40 percent at one point recently) as cheap natural gas displaced it. Of course, while environmentalists like the decline in coal use, they have swung round again the method-fracking-that is producing the cheap gas making this possible. But over the last few months, as the Energy Information Administration noted recently, coal has been making a quiet comeback. (See figure below.)
But never mind the United States. Coal use continues to rise overseas. As Frank Clemente of EnergyFactsWeekly points out, India has calculated that coal is its route out of poverty:
Coal has been, is, and will continue to be the foundation of socio-economic development in India, meeting over 40% of energy demand in 2010 and rising to 50% by 2030. Coal provides almost 70%% of India's electricity and within two decades India's coal based generation capacity will exceed 350 gigawatts, requiring well over one billion tons of coal.
Frank offers the chart below showing the correlation between coal use and the rise in the India's score on the UN's Human Development Index (HDI). Now, correlation does not equal causation, except when you put greenhouse gas emissions next to global temperatures. (Oh, wait, that isn't working very well right now, it is? Never mind.)
But wait, there's more! You may well think that India is being foolish to embrace more "dirty" coal. In fact, moving to more cheap coal-fired electricity may actually reduce health risk from air pollution in India, because it will lower a primary source of energy poor Indians use heavily now: small wood-fueled cookstoves. One recent study found that the small wood-fueled cookstove is the largest environmental health threat in developing nations:
In a finding that confirms the devastating health impact of energy poverty, the landmark Global Burden of Disease study published today tallied 3.5 million annual deaths from respiratory illness due to burning of wood, brush, dung, and other biomass for fuel. . .
Added Kirk R. Smith, a professor of global environmental health at the University of California, Berkeley, and a co-author of The Lancet article, "One of the most alarming findings is that smoke from cooking fires was found to be the largest environmental threat to health in the world today."

The IRS - Attempting To Influence Elections And Public PolicyJun 03, 2013 12:00 pm
Can anyone feel safe from persecution? Despite the neglect of the liberal media, the world is learning about the corruption of the IRS in targeting conservative groups. But the corruption goes much deeper than harassing groups seeking first time non-profit designations, into actively sabotaging existing non-profit groups by releasing confidential information. According to published records and [...] Read More and Comment: The IRS - Attempting To Influence Elections And Public Policy

Join the Fight Against Common Core By Lindsey Burke
Two competing forces are pushing on America's K-12 education system today. One is an effort to infuse education choice into a long-stagnant system, empowering parents with the ability to send their child to a school that meets her unique learning needs. The other is an effort to further centralize education through Common Core national standards and tests.
Across the country, education choice options have been proliferating rapidly, including vouchers, tuition tax credits, special needs scholarships, and education savings accounts. Educational choice is a revolution because it funds children instead of physical school buildings and allows dollars to follow children to any school-or education option-that meets their unique learning needs.

What To Watch
| | Common Core Education is Uncommonly Inadequate
"The federal government and the D.C. groups behind Common Core don't have records that inspire confidence... And in Massachusetts, the likely result of the Common Core is that the gains of the past 20 years will slowly but surely recede." |

Internet Sales Tax Will Kill My Small Business
06/04/2013
Hi, I'm Catesby Jones. I own a small business in Virginia called Peace Frogs. My three dozen employees and I make T-shirts and other cool stuff. We're a positive company that loves being able to do all our work from Gloucester, VA, where I grew up. What makes it possible is the Internet. By reaching out to a worldwide base of customers, companies in rural parts like ours can thrive and have a much bigger presence than they otherwise would through traditional sales. This is why I'm incredibly concerned about the Internet sales tax that's being debated in Washington. It's an attack on small businesses like mine. If you look at who's lining up for and against the misnamed Marketplace Fairness Act, mostly large corporations are beating up on us small guys. They have the lobbyists, they have the muscle, and they have what it takes to impose burdensome regulations on online entrepreneurs. We don't have the same access to Washington. I've spoken out against this threat and recently shared my story with Heritage. They visited our warehouse and I explained how the Internet sales tax would harm my growing business. Here's a short video of our conversation that I want to share with you: The Internet offers the best opportunity for Gloucester natives to come home and operate a business. There aren't many other enterprise vehicles that allow this type of flexible marketplace. But an Internet sales tax would threaten the well-being of my family and my employee's families and result in higher costs for my customers. Proponents of the Internet sales tax want to make me a tax collector for 9,646 tax jurisdictions. Their misguided efforts could make Peace Frogs at risk for audits by 46 states, the District of Columbia and countless other U.S. territories. We need as much help as we can get to educate Americans about this. Thanks so much for reading my note. If you wouldn't mind, please share this video with your friends and family. Live Fun, Do Good. News from The Hill:
New tax chief pledges to correct 'serious problems' at IRS By Bernie Becker and Peter Schroeder
The new acting IRS chief stressed Monday that he was pressing ahead to fix the problems that allowed the agency to target conservative groups, saying the current controversies had sparked a difficult time at the IRS.
Danny Werfel, in his first testimony on Capitol Hill, also stressed that the current controversy shouldn't be used to tar the entire agency.
Werfel, who has been acting commissioner for less than two weeks, told a House Appropriations subcommittee Monday that the singling out of Tea Party groups seeking tax-exempt status was inexcusable.
"We have a great deal of work ahead of us to review and correct the serious problems that have occurred at the IRS and continue the important work of the agency on behalf of taxpayers," Werfel said in prepared remarks for his first congressional appearance in his new role.
The new acting chief is in the midst of a 30-day, top-to-bottom review of the IRS, undertaken at the request of Treasury Secretary Jack Lew.

News from The Hill:
House panel boosts war spending in Defense bill By Jeremy Herb
The House Armed Services panel's Defense authorization bill would hike Pentagon spending by $5 billion.
The increase would be used for spending on the Afghanistan war. It is intended to make up for cuts to training and maintenance that have occurred over the last year due to sequestration.
The legislation offered by Chairman Buck McKeon (R-Calif.) includes $85.8 billion in war spending, an increase of $5.1 billion from the Pentagon's 2014 budget request. In the bill released Monday, $4.5 billion of the additional funds go toward readiness accounts that pay for things like Air Force pilot training and Navy maintenance.
The bill also rejects several cost-cutting measures proposed by the Pentagon, including a new round of base closures, a smaller pay increase for troops and new health fees.

On Today's Program
The stunning (and never ending) list of Obama administration lies
Up until the recent scandal trifecta currently plaguing the Obama administration the media had just accepted whatever lame excuse Obama offered up. Now, however, the media is starting to figure out just how dishonest this administration really is. Today on radio Glenn chronicled the stunning list of Obama administration lies and distortions -- a list so exhaustive we had to break it up into categories:
Lies about his childhood
Even the President's own childhood isn't off limits when it comes to what this administration will lie about. President Obama himself said he was born after his parents came together in Selma, even though he was born several years before that civil-rights march. Here is the list of bizarre lies about his own family history & past. WATCH.
Obamacare
The administration boldly lied about Obamacare many times - most spectacularly when they told the American people it was most definitely not a tax. A few short months later the administration was standing before the Supreme Court arguing that it was indeed a tax. Glenn has more on radio today.
What difference does it make? Benghazi lies
Hillary Clinton famously tried to brush off the truth by screeching out 'what difference does it make?' during a Congressional hearing. Hillary took a gamble that the media also doesn't care about the truth. As it turns out she was mostly right. She's still in line for the 2016 nomination even though she oversaw the death of four Americans and said she didn't care about it. But that's just the beginning of the Benghazi lies. More from radio today.
|
Fast and Furious
The Federal government knowingly and purposefully walked guns into the hands of Mexican drug cartels as part of a scheme to uncover and bust the cartels. Later the guns we sent over were used to kill our own border patrol agents, and now the administration is in full lie mode. Glenn has the details on radio.
IRS scandal
And of course the IRS scandal - the story is so blatantly not true it seems the administration's strategy is to simply tell as many lies as possible and confuse the heck out of everyone. Glenn runs through the growing list of IRS related lies on radio today. WATCH
Axelrod: IRS targeting 'too stupid' to be politically motivated
David Axelrod was out spinning away for the administration and came up with quite a creative out - the IRS targeting was too stupid to be politically motivated. However, the IRS commissioner met with Obama 157 times at the height of the healthcare battle and most of those meetings were labeled as 'health care' related. Are we really to believe no one in the White House talked about the Tea Party with Obama? Really? Glenn reacts to Axelrod & re-enacts the conversation that must have taken place about the Tea Party.
